Chapter Twenty-Four
Amara opened her eyes and found her naked upper body partially covered by Radditz's long hair. She sat up and the hair slid down her body with the lightest of touches, like spider web.
She left her sleeping lover and walked into the bathroom. She swept her hair back and looked at herself in the mirror. She couldn't explain it, but something felt different.
As she looked at her reflection in the mirror, she saw the same old Amara. She pressed her fingers to the glass and felt its cool surface.
She mentally laughed and chided herself. What's going on with you, Amara? Snap out of it.
She pulled her hand back as she noticed subtle marks on her body. Reminders of her time with Radditz last night. She smiled as she touched one on her abdomen. Her eyes widened and she looked up at the mirror again.
Suddenly, it was all clear. The difference she felt. A sense of a small change. A pinprick of life...within her.
She took a few steps back, away from the mirror. She kept moving until she came to the wall. She wasn't sure if she should be happy or scared.
Sure she wanted children, but what would Radditz say? Did he want children too? Did he want them this soon? How could she tell him?
She walked to the doorway and looked at the bed, shocked momentarily to see him sitting up and looking back at her. His smile withered around the edges when he saw her expression.
“Amara? What's the matter?”
If she didn't tell him he would have noticed even before she started to show. Saiya-jins had keen senses; acute enough to decipher something like the beginnings of life.
She went to the bedside and looked at him. She put one knee on it and then the other. She crawled over to him, never taking her eyes from his questioning ones.
“When are you leaving?”
“Tonight.” He put his hands on her waist and pulled her closer to him.
“Then you have to be really careful,” she said. “We want you to come back safely.”
She expected to see a surprised or confused look on his face. Or maybe hear him ask who “we” were, but he didn't. Instead he smiled.
“Yeah. Wouldn't want to leave you alone with my kid.”
Amara was the one lefted shocked. “Wh-what?”
“What?” he asked, innocently. “That's what you meant, didn't you?”
“Sure, but you…knew?”
He laughed. “Last night, the third time around. Men know things like this, Saiya-jin men anyway.”
She frowned at him. “Radditz!”
“Yes?”
She sighed. “You're an ass. Why didn't you tell me?”
“That would have ruined the mood.” He caught sight of the look she was giving him and added, “You noticed on your own, right? There was no need to tell you last night. You're not mad, are you?”
“Of course not, but what about…”
He moved off of the bed and smiled. “Once we get back from killing Frieza, Prince Vegeta will officially accept his position as king and take Bulma as his mate, then the laws will be changed.”
She watched him getting dressed. “Don't tell me you planned this.”
“Nah,” he said. “But it's pretty damn convenient, isn't it?”
She looked at him, suspiciously and then laughed. “Guess so.” She rose from the bed and headed for the bathroom again, this time to take a shower.
-
Vegeta stood by a window, looking down at the umpteen men who were preparing the ship that Radditz, Kakarot, Nappa, and he would be leaving in.
He turned and caught sight of his bed. He crossed his arms as he remembered an incident from the night before. He hadn't been quite as lucky as Radditz.
After having spoken to numerous people about the matters at hand, he was returning to his room. He stopped when he came to Bulma's door, remembering how he said they'd finish what they'd started before.
He opened her bedroom door softly and stepped inside the dark room. He could see her still form as she slept in her bed. He proceeded to walk over to her and slide his hands over her body to rouse her.
Surprisingly, when she woke up, she was all but happy. She obviously wasn't in the mood any more and said something to him that confused him a little.
He shook the thoughts from his head and went to his bedroom door. He opened it and spotted Radditz down the hallway, walking away from him.
“Radditz!”
He whirled around, looking surprised. “Yes, Prince Vegeta?”
He shut the bedroom door and walked over to him. “Is Amara around?”
He shook his head. “She's in the shower.” He looked at him sideways. “Is something wrong?”
He moved closer to him. “I had a question to ask her.” He hesitated. “Is it…possible to be `too pregnant' to have sex?”
Radditz blinked at him. “Excuse me?”
“That's what Bulma said last night!” He paused when he noticed the look he was giving him. “What?!”
“I never thought about there being a point in pregnancy when women weren't able to have sex anymore. What have I done?”
“What?”
Radditz looked at him. “Oh…uh…nothing. Did Bulma say she couldn't or that she didn't want to?”
Vegeta thought about that. “I'm sure she could have…”
Radditz shrugged. “I don't know what to tell you.”
“Then go ask Amara!”
His eyes widened. “What? Why me?”
Vegeta frowned at him.
“It won't come out right,” Radditz protested, thinking of what he and Amara had discussed last.
Both men looked up as Kakarot approached them. “We're leaving tonight, right?” He didn't seem to be speaking to anyone in particular.
Radditz looked at Vegeta. “Let's ask him. He was with his mate on Earth when she was pregnant.”
Kakarot blinked. “Huh?”
“Was there a point when Chi Chi was `too pregnant' to have sex?”
Kakarot looked at his older brother. “Too pregnant?” He laughed. “Oh, I think I know what you mean.”
“Well?” Vegeta asked.
“Sure,” he responded. “Those were tough days.” He shook his head. “She got mad at me every time I suggested it. She said it would probably be bad for Gohan.”
“Bad for him?”
Kakarot shrugged. “I guess because the baby's head is…”
“Okay, I think we get it now,” Radditz interrupted. “Damn.” He took a few steps away from them and nearly ran into Aisha.
He looked at her with wide eyes and her expression almost matched his as she moved past him. Radditz turned to keep her in sight. Vegeta and Kakarot looked at her also.
She stopped before Vegeta and gave a little bow. “Your Highness.” She continued past him and looked at Kakarot and Radditz once more. “Gentlemen.” She disappeared down the hallway.
Radditz tried not to laugh, but Vegeta and Kakarot looked confused.
“Who's…?”
“That's Amara's mother.” Radditz answered his brother's question.
“Oh.” He laughed. “You think she liked our conversation?” he looked at Vegeta who didn't seem to think it was very funny.
“Perhaps we should stick to talking about our battle plans,” Vegeta said, as if he wasn't the one who started the conversation in the first place. “And to answer your question Kakarot, yes we leave tonight.”
He blinked, having almost forgotten he'd asked that. “Right.”
Vegeta walked away from the two without another word. The brothers shared a quick look.
“He's embarrassed.” Kakarot stated the obvious.
“Sure he is,” Radditz replied.
“So you got Amara pregnant, huh?”
Radditz raised his eyebrows. “How did you know that?”
Kakarot looked dumbfounded. “You were just asking me about women being `too pregnant.' It was obvious that you were asking for yourself and not out of curiosity.”
Radditz frowned. “I was asking for Vegeta.”
He laughed. “You were? And now you've slipped and told me about Amara.” He nudged him. “Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. You better stay on Vegeta's good side if you want those laws changed.”
Radditz crossed his arms. “Yeah, I guess so.”
-
When each of the men wasn't discussing Frieza, their time was spent with their women and loved ones, up until they were ready to board the spaceship.
“Remember what I said,” Amara said, after breaking her kiss with Radditz.
“Yes, I know. I'll come back to the two of you. Don't worry about me.” He smiled and kissed her once more before walking away.
Kakarot was kneeling down, talking to Gohan and Chi Chi stood near him, close, almost touching, but not quite. He finally stood and gave his attention to his mate. He kissed her passionately and told them both he'd be back before they knew it.
Inside the ship, Bulma checked to make sure everything was operating correctly. Vegeta stood at the door, looking down on everyone else.
He turned and met her eyes as she walked over to him. He pushed away from the wall and met her halfway.
“Are you `too pregnant' to kiss me?” he asked.
She rolled her eyes at him. “Kami! Stop acting like such a child.” She reached for his face and leaned into him.
He grabbed her and pulled her close to him as he kissed her, hungrily. She met his need and pulled away. “I love you and I want to you be careful.”
He smirked. “It's Frieza you should be worrying about?”
She frowned slightly. “What?”
“When I find him, he's going to be the one in trouble.”
She hit him playfully in the chest and walked past him. He grabbed her arm and pulled her to him again.
She laughed and leaned against him. “I'll be waiting for you.”
“I know.”
They kissed again before Bulma exited the ship and joined the people below.
After goodbyes, Bulma, Amara and Chi Chi stood in the crowd watching the ship, as it seemed to be swallowed in the felty darkness of the sky.
“We're seeing our men off again,” Chi Chi said, absently ruffling Gohan's hair.
“At least this time they're going after that lizard instead of with him,” Amara said.
“And then it will all be over,” Bulma added.
They stood there for a while longer, well after the rest of the crowd had dispersed. Gohan had gone off with his grandfather, just leaving the three.
“Let's go inside,” Amara said.
Chi Chi and Bulma nodded.
The three headed back to the palace and Amara spoke first, breaking the silence.
“So did we all have fun with our men while they were here?”
Chi Chi laughed. “Of course.”
Amara looked at her. “What about Gohan?”
“We sent him off with his grandfather.”
Amara nodded. “I see.”
“Can you believe Vegeta wanted to have sex last night,” Bulma said, placing one hand over her rounded belly.
Amara looked at her. “Really? What did you tell him?”
“I told him I was too far along to be doing things like that,” she said, very matter-of-factly.
Chi Chi shook her head. “I had the same problem with Kakarot. I told him it wasn't that I couldn't, but women…” She laughed. “Men just don't understand.”
Bulma laughed too.
Amara looked at her and then touched her own stomach. “Do you think your son and my child would like to play together?”
The laughter stopped. Bulma met her eyes. “Huh? You mean you're…”
Amara smiled and nodded.
“Congratulations!” Chi Chi said.
Bulma laughed. “You've joined the club. How far along are you?”
“Probably about a day now.”
Both women looked thoroughly puzzled. “A day?”
Amara nodded again.
“But if that were true, how would you know?” Chi Chi queried.
“Saiya-jins just know these kinds of things. We can sense life from the moment sperm meets egg.”
Bulma snapped her fingers. “I remember Vegeta being able to tell the gender of our baby.”
“Really?” Chi Chi asked. “Kakarot never surprised me with any of his skills.” She directed her attention to Amara again. “Could you also tell if a baby had any defects or anything?”
“Sure.”
“Wow. I'm envious. That's quite a skill.”
Amara laughed. “Looks like those men have some pretty good things to come back to.”
Bulma glanced up at the sky. “I agree. They're going to beat him this time.”
The other two women stopped and looked up at the sky. Amara smiled. “Of course they will.”

A/N: Cerulean Flower: (Giggles) I wonder how much of the conversation Aisha heard.
Vegeta: (Growls) Shut up! Where did you get that idea anyway?
Cerulean Flower: Oh, that one is dedicated to Lil' Mari. She came up with the idea. I don't know if she thought I'd really use it, but I did! (Grins)
Vegeta: (Sighs)
Cerulean Flower: All right folks! Thanks for reading! Come back next time! (Waves)
