Chapter Twenty-Six

“The planet looked much more greener from space,” Radditz said, cupping his hand over his eyes.

“Yeah,” Kakarot said, looking over the sandy terrain. “And much cooler too.”

“Stop your whining,” Nappa said, pushing past them.

The siblings frowned as Nappa moved forward to stand juxtaposed with their Prince.

Nappa placed a scouter over his eye and pushed the button. Numbers ran across the screen and he was silent for a moment. “I'm detecting a bunch of small ki signatures just north.”

Vegeta looked up at him.

“And one that's much stronger to the west, slowly heading toward the smaller signatures.” He looked down at met his Prince's eyes for a moment. “It has to be Frieza.”

Vegeta gave one curt nod. “Hn. You three take care of his flunkies and don't interfere with me.” He rose into the sky and flew off.

“Flunkies take care of the flunkies,” Radditz said.

Kakarot laughed, but Nappa didn't seem to think it was so funny. He glanced back at them and then snarled, “Come on!”

They followed him until they came to some large rocks that formed a cliff, blocking their view of the land before them.

“Guess we better fly over them,” Kakarot said.

“They'll sense us if we fly,” Radditz stated.

“So what,” Nappa said, levitating into the air. “They're just going to end up dead anyway.”

Kakarot shrugged and followed. Radditz brought up the rear. The three Saiya-jins knelt on top of the rocks and peered below.

There were dozens of men dressed in similar armor. They were moving around what looked like the beginnings or the ruins of a spacecraft.

Kakarot leaned forward. “They're building something.”

“Yeah, or repairing it.”

“They wanted to come after us,” Nappa said, standing. “But we came right to them.”

“Surprise attack?” Kakarot asked.

“You know it,” Radditz said, forming a ki ball in the center of his hand. “Time for a wake-up call.”

He launched the ki ball and the three immediately jumped down from the rocks. Frieza's men looked up, but it was too late to evade the attack. It collided and there were shouts and groans. Bodies were airborne and fell to the ground with heavy, resounding thuds.

Once the Saiya-jins had their feet on the ground they continued their assault. They were quickly overcoming Frieza's men. In fact, it was so easy it was becoming annoying.

-

Vegeta didn't need a scouter to find Frieza. He found that he could sense where he was without it. It made sense; he and the others had been doing so much training.

He saw something forming in the distance and slowed down his flying. He came to a halt and hovered in the air. He was sure that Freiza had noticed him now. He couldn't help the smirk that spread over his face.

Frieza stopped a few feet away. “Well isn't this a nice surprise. The Prince of the monkeys.”

Vegeta's smirk never faltered. “Laugh while you can, Frieza. Only one of us is leaving this planet alive.”

Frieza nodded. “Yes you're right.”

“So let's not waste anymore time.” Vegeta powered up and Frieza squinted at the light.

Vegeta fired a ki blast. Frieza easily knocked it aside, but looked up to find Vegeta close enough that he could reach out and touch him. Vegeta landed a kick to the side of Frieza's head, knocking him back.

Vegeta looked satisfied as he watched the lizard regain his composure.

“Hmm. He's changed somehow,” Frieza said mostly to himself. “I'll have to pay more attention.”

“Die,” Vegeta said, extending his hand and shooting rapid ki blasts from each of his fingertips.

Frieza blocked these attacks and when they stopped coming he looked up to find Vegeta gone. He scanned the area around him and then smiled when his scouter began picking up a signal.

He turned and caught Vegeta's fist in his hand. Vegeta growled, pulled back and came at him again. Freiza blocked the punch and grabbed his arm. He sent Vegeta plummeting down to the ground. The Price was able to gain control of his body and land lightly in the dirt, only to find Frieza's foot connected with his face moments later.

Frieza begin kicking him savagely in the ribs. Vegeta screamed as the force of the last kick sent him rolling across the ground. Frieza looked at Vegeta, smugly.

Vegeta rolled onto his stomach and got his arms underneath him. He lifted himself off the ground. His mouth filled with blood and he spat it out. He heard Frieza approaching him, preparing to launch his next ki blast.

He got to his feet and frowned. Was now the right moment?

“Prince Vegeta!”

Both Vegeta and Frieza's heads turned to the direction in which the sound had come from. Nappa was flying full-speed toward Freiza, both hands filled with the radiating light of ki blasts.

“Nappa!” Vegeta shouted. “I told you not to interfere!”

“What's he doing?” Kakarot asked in the distance.

Radditz joined him since they had disposed of all the men. “Being an idiot or maybe he has a death wish.”

“Huh.” Frieza continued to watch him.

Nappa let go of the blasts and sent them at Frieza who knocked them back in the direction they came from. Nappa dodged his own attacks, but wasn't prepared for the long beam of ki Frieza sent at him.

Nappa's eyes widened and he stopped in the air. He hovered for a moment before his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell to the ground in a bloody heap.

“Annoying pest.” Freiza turned away.

Vegeta growled and clenched his hands into fists. “Idiot. I told him to stay back.” He looked to Radditz and Kakarot. “Get him out of here.”

Frieza watched as the two Saiya-jins took to the air and landed beside the motionless body of their comrade. Vegeta sent a small ki blast at him to get his attention.

“Your fight is with me,” he said. “Pay attention.”

Frieza smiled. “So eager to join your friend?”

“Hn.” Vegeta levitated into the air and Frieza followed.

“Well,” Kakarot asked, glancing away from his Prince to look at his brother.

Radditz looked up at him for his kneeling position on the ground. “He's dead. The shot went right through his heart. He probably died instantly.” He stood. “He was so eager. He was asking for death…and Frieza gave it to him.”

Kakarot nodded, but jumped out of the way when a blast connected with the ground beside him. “It looks like we better pay attention to the people who are still alive or we'll be joining Nappa on the ground.”

Radditz raised his face to the sky. “I couldn't have said it better myself.”

-

The land shook violently as Vegeta was thrown to the ground, creating a large crater. Smoke and dust billowed up from the hole. Moments later, a gloved hand shot up and clawed at the ground as the Prince wrenched himself free.

“When do we move in and help him?” Kakarot asked.

“I don't need your help!” Vegeta cried, overhearing him.

Kakarot shrank back and spoke more quietly. “Frieza's stronger than we thought.”

“Maybe.”

Kakarot looked at his brother. “What do you mean maybe?”

Radditz turned to face him. “I think…I mean, Vegeta wouldn't challenge Frieza without a plan. Something's wrong. I think he's holding back.”

Kakarot blinked. “Why? Why would he do that?”

Radditz didn't speak as he turned back to watch the fight.

“Impossible,” Frieza said, as his feet touched down on the ground. “You should be dead by now. You're a persistent monkey, aren't you?”

Vegeta wiped away the blood that was trickling from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. “I guess I'm not as easy to beat as you originally thought.” He paused. “But don't worry. I'm ready to end this fight.”

“Oh?”

“Yes.” Vegeta closed his eyes and his electricity-like ki crackled around his body.

Lightning illuminated the sky and struck the ground. Frieza stepped back. The lightning struck again, but this time it connected with Vegeta's body. Radditz watched intently and Kakarot looked surprised, but the lightning didn't seem to be affecting him at all. In fact it seemed to be making him stronger.

Vegeta screamed as his power increased. The numbers on Frieza's scouter were climbing higher and higher.

“Impossible,” he said. “He can't be this strong. What's happening?” He cried out in surprise when his scouter shattered and fell off of his face.

Towers of rocks around them began to fall and the ground beneath them began to crack in various places. Radditz and Kakarot hovered off of the ground a little and moved back out of the way of falling objects.

Vegeta gave one more yell before a bright yellow light flooded out over everyone. Frieza, Radditz and Kakarot shielded themselves from the light. Fallen bodies were lifted into the air and disintegrated at the sheer energy being emitted from the Saiya-jin Prince.

When the light faded, everyone looked to where the Prince had once been. They found him in the same place, but he looked like a different person.

His hair was like shimmering gold with an aura of the same color enveloping his body. His green eyes stared back at Frieza. Only his trademark smirk seemed the same.

“Wh-what's this?” Frieza stammered.

“This is Super Saiya-jin,” Vegeta said, proudly. “A little trick of mine.”

“Little trick?” Kakarot said. “That's great. I have to reach that level!”

Frieza took a step back as the beginnings of fear blossomed on his face. “Wait…”

“No,” Vegeta said. “I won't wait any longer. You've lived long enough. Your time has expired.” He prepared for his final attacked.

Two ki blasts flared to life in his palms. When the blasts had become considerably large, they merged into one big one.

Frieza turned and in an attempt to flee. Vegeta smiled as he watched him.

“Coward!” He launched the ki blast at Frieza. There was no way the lizard could outrun it because it was a homing blast.

Frieza turned as the blast was almost upon him. “No…NO!” Searing pain tore through his body and his screams filled the air around them. He felt as if his body was going to be torn apart. He closed his eyes against the light.

The Saiya-jins watched as every last bit of the evil tyrant dissipated. Radditz let out a low whistle.

“And that's that,” Kakarot said, dusting off his hands as if he had done something.

Vegeta slowly descended to the ground. His eyes were turned toward the sand, but he didn't really seem to be looking at it. His eyes were distant as if his mind were somewhere else.

His golden aura faded away and his hair and eye color returned to black. Instantly, he looked like the same old Vegeta. It was if they had imagined his spectacular transformation.

This is it? Vegeta pondered. He's dead? I really killed him? Why don't I feel joy or relief? I..I feel nothing. I'm like an empty void. The death of the one I hated the most left me cold and empty inside. I hadn't expected this, but it's just as well.

“Check it out,” Kakarot said, as he and his brother approached Vegeta.

“Check what out?” Radditz asked, his brow wrinkling in slight confusion.

“That's just it. There's nothing left of Frieza. It's like...like he wasn't even here.” He stood beside Vegeta. “Why didn't you tell us you reached super Saiya-jin level? I'm so envious. I have to reach it next.”

Vegeta looked up at him. “You're closer than you think.”

“Really?” His face brightened. “What about Radditz?”

Vegeta's eyes flicked to him and he smirked. “He has farther to go.”

Kakarot laughed at this and Radditz didn't look like he appreciated the ridiculing.

“Nice job,” Kakarot said, looking around once more. “I never doubted you for a minute, Prince Vegeta.”

“Weren't you the one who asked when you could interfere?” Vegeta asked, all ready knowing the answer.

“Well, I…”

It was Radditz's turn to laugh.

“Never underestimate me,” Vegeta said, walking past them both. “That's a deadly mistake.”

The siblings shared a look and then Kakarot smiled and folded his arms behind his head.

“Hurry up. What the hell are you two waiting for? Let's get off of this sorry excuse for a planet.” Vegeta spoke without turning.

“You don't want to take a look around first?” Kakarot asked, following.

“Why would I want to do that? What could this planet hold that would interest me?”

“Yeah,” Radditz agreed. “It's about time we leave for home. We have important things to take care of there. Much more important.”

The three Saiya-jins levitated into the air and flew toward their spacecraft. The first thing they would do was call up the girls back home and tell them the good news.

Now that things had been made right and Frieza had checked into other world for good, there were only a few things to do at home before everyone could start their lives anew. Something they were all looking forward to.
