Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Two for Love ❯ A Knife of Lovers ( Chapter 5 )
Chapter Five: A Knife of Lovers
It had been five days since the warriors had left to defeat Freesia. The days were long and the nights were even longer and sleepless. No word had been heard from any of the women's lovers. Not a rumor, whisper or a syllable. It was a complete silence, but the bonds formed with the warriors were the only communications and their mates told all.
At dusk, Marei would head off to lie down, but had no intention of sleeping. Her mental bond with Piccolo opened at this time and Piccolo shared the fate of each day. Marei took a warm shower and wrapped herself in a large fluffy towel. She waited each night for a word from her lover. It was a cruel sort of `widow's walk' and she began to refer to this time at night as her `widow's talk'. The sky turned to a deep reddish-purple to a blue. The sounds of the day quieted, and footsteps softened.
A soft voice echoed inside her head. Softly saying her name. It grew louder as she shut out the singing of night bugs and whispers of talk.
"Marei, today was different. Very thing has changed and I am not sure if any of us will ever be coming home. Our planet has now been tactfully removed from the market. Gohan did this. He hacked into the inventory files; the planet has been purchased with the inhabitants alive. Damioh, my family name, now owns Namek. The planet was bought for a large amount of money. Money that was never there. The money is now seen as having been lost in a foolish gamble. Two hundred deaths were accounted for because of this loss of money. This has been our first achievement. I would not dare say a victory. We played his game, by his rules. Vegeta and Karroto have gone off; together they seek out Freesia. This leaving Nail, Gohan and myself to destroy the largest of the Cold fleet." The sound of his deep voice echoed through her mind.
"Amber and your mind pressure attack have been resourceful. By combining Nail's and my power along with your attack entire ships just plain out `go mad'. Many vessels simply do not take incoming transfers of people because they fear this new plague."
"Our planet is safe then, no?"
"Only for a short term period. We believe this buys Vegeta and Karroto enough time to destroy Freesia. In which we hope will lead to hysteria and finally the collapse of the empire."
"That is very optimistic, Piccolo. An empire can not be built on one man alone!"
"Marei, you underestimate Freesia. His entire empire is built on fear. Anyone who serves him has a great fear of him, and chooses to be loyal rather than to die. With the death of this tyrant, their souls can be set free."
"Someone will rise up to take his place and restore order!"
"Yes, that we have planned out. The death of Freesia's father, King Cold, the control of the empire was passed onto Freesia. In the case of Freesia's death the empire is to be passed on to his son, Zarbon."
"So while Vegeta and Karroto go to kill the new king, Nail, Gohan and yourself are to dispose of Zarbon."
"No."
"What do you mean, `no'?! If Freesia dies the seat of power is passed on! I know of this Zarbon you speak! His is as cruel and heartless as his father!"
"Yes, that is so. You do not let me finish my words. Nail, Gohan and myself are to dispose of the armies like I have told you earlier. Marei, someone else is to kill off the heir."
"Who?! None of the warriors from Namek, Sayien and Namek alike are able to leave the planet! It is still under watch! Any persons leaving form that planet are to be killed, no questions asked!"
Utter confusment and rage boiled inside of her. He seemed so calm! Suddenly the message came to her. All of the warriors left were herself, Amber, ChiChi and Bulma. And half of that list is cut because of pregnancies!
"You want Amber and me to go."
"Yes."
Marei sat in silence. Nothing she could tell herself would give a reason for her to stay behind, except that she was afraid. She was afraid of dying.
"When do you want us to leave?"
"Marei, I can feel your fear-"
"Stop!" she cut him off, "I may be afraid, but I am no coward! Two hundred innocent people died today, so that we would have more time! If they can forfeit there lives, so can I. Tell me when we are to leave. Tell me what to do! I will fight!"
The night carried on. Marei, having an inner battle of fear and courage, was trying to nub her feelings. Piccolo explained the predicament. The two would not be able to sneak directly onto the spacecraft Zarbon could be found on. Gohan has accessed identifications for the two and Bulma should be able to print the cards.
"At no time are you allowed to removed that card! Death is a grantee for not wearing identification, no excuse." Piccolo casually threw at her.
Also Gohan had entered a landing time for the two, so tardiness could never even cross their minds. Bulma must re-paint the fastest spacecraft to match the colors and style of the Cold's. Marei and Amber must have student uniforms, for that was their disguise. They were training technicians. The must be dressed in a dark blue.
"Any weapon will not kill him. It must be of a certain cut and laced with LoCat, a rare stone. Now the only weapons we have found that have this cut and stone are the ones Kami used to bond us. Only two of them were made, yours and Amber's."
"I understand. An odd irony I suppose, for one so heartless to be slain with a knife of lovers."
"Yes, I must leave you now. Our disguises are being questioned; your mind attack might be once again helpful. Goodbye, my love."
"Yes, goodbye." She spoke out loud as she had each night before.
She always wanted to except the fact that there was a chance that those words would be the last spoken between them. She had many tasks to complete; they would set course in a matter of few days.
---A Matter of a Few Days Later---
The ship was of silver and black, very sleek, but ultimately cold. The interior was a perfect match for the out side physical appearance, cold and unyielding. The interior was small and certainly not cozy. It held three areas, one being the control room and a kitchen, one being a bedroom and bath the other being the engines. The whole ship was small and compacted. The beds being stacked like bunks. The two held sadness and fear in their eyes.
"Guys, you ready?" Bulma asked, tilting her head slightly showing concern.
The two nodded and turned to say their last few good-byes. Ryika came forward. Tears streamed down her face, but yet she said nothing. Marei knelt in front of her. The two looked at each other in perfect silence. As quickly as the next breath, Ryika was being held in her sister's arms.
"Ryika, before I leave you must know these two things. Grandmother died the day before we left."
"I know, Marei. Kami told me."
"Oh." Marei sighed, thankful that Kami had done this, "Secondly, our mother-"
"What about her?"
"Let me finish. I learned this many years ago, but never could I tell anyone. Our mother's name was Vala."
"Marei, do I want to hear how this will end?"
Marei nodded negatively, "But you must know. It will help to understand why I must go and why I am so afraid."
Marei placed her hand on her sister's heart. She let the images of the past flow into her.
The day was cloudy and Planet Vegeta was under siege. Wails ere heard through out the woods. People dying. Mass murder. A holocaust of the whole planet. The Cold army simply killed without mercy or remorse. Marei ran towards the castle, her grandmother holding her hand, pushing her to run faster.
"We must find your mother and your sister! Hurry little one!" her voice quavered as she spoke.
They entered through the servant quarters, running through the halls. Each painted blue, bordered with a white trim. They entered a small room. Her mother was huddled in a corner with her arms around Ryika. Tears soaked her black hair and matted it against her face.
"Take her." Gentle handing Ryika over to Marei, she strapped the two together, "Now run!"
"Hurry mommy, Gramie is here!" Marei wailed, pulling on her mother's right arm.
The two rushed towards the door, pushing over an officer. The grandmother sliced his throat, the blood gushing out in beats, until it slowed to a slow stream. The four raced down the halls and back out into the woods. The ground was covered in blood patches where people had fallen. Some halfway alive and halfway dead reached their long broken fingers, some bending in way that it was gruesome to see. They reached and grabbed ahold of your clothes or skin. Scratching it as their bone made direct contact with your flesh. Vala fell. Grandmother lifted her to her feet. Suddenly a strange man appeared in front of them. His skin was blue and hair as white a snow, tied back into a low-hung ponytail.
"Zarbon." her mother hissed through her teeth.
"I know who I am. Thank you for that heart-stopping welcome. Now let me stop yours."
His fist collided with her face and she was sent flying yards away. Advancing towards her, her body was sprawled on the forest floor. Dirt smeared over her face, she spat up at him. He stepped onto her stomach, pressing her deeper into the ground. The rain that had gently began to fall, made mud, which splashed into her mouth.
"He's drowning her!" Marei screamed as she tried to loosen her grandmother's hold upon her.
His long fingers of one hand latched onto her throat.
"Run Marei! Run as fast as you can, don't ever look back" Vala commanded, "Remember I love you, now go!"
Her grandmother slowly nodded to her only child. Her grips on Marei tighten as the pair rushed through the woods. Marei never removed her eyes from her mother, as Zarbon's other hand plunged deep with her chest. The blood this time came from her mouth, as her eyes glazed over, before rolling up within her head. Her throat began to try to swallow; Marei turned her head and ran faster. The tree branches whipped at her face, arms and legs. Her sister wailed in her arms. The last thing she heard before being rush upon the small spaceship was a blood-chilling scream. A dying scream from her mother.
Marei took her hand off of her sister, "Now you see. You see why I am scared."
