What Dreams Become
Chapter 1
:I have got to get away or I will go absolutely insane,: Teancha thought as she heard Trunks and her grandfather arguing over the usual thing most likely--training. After reaching puberty Trunks was not as driven to train as he had in his younger years. He had discovered the opposite sex existed. She rolled her eyes at the very thought. Goten and Trunks were so girl crazy. It seemed like that was the only think they ever wanted discuss when they got together.
The sheer volume of their voices was enough to drive anyone out of the house. Her grandmother, Bulma, was not there to act as interference since she was away on a business trip. Teancha shook her head. There had better be something to come home to for the President of Capsule Corp or there would be even more yelling. If there was anything her grandparents excelled at--it was at arguing.
She shoved some things into her pack as she heard Vegita give Trunks an ultimatum that he could not ignore.
" Fine, if you don't want have the time to train then I'm cutting off your allowance. Having no money should free up some of your time," his father was saying with little lift of his eyebrows.
" What!?!" Trunks cried as if he were about to lose a limb.
Vegita turned away heading towards the Gravity Room with a deceptively leisure stroll. He could taste victory and it was so sweet. He was half way there when his son caught up to him wearing an outraged look.
" All right, I'll start training. I need to change."
Teancha was putting some last minute things into her pack when she heard her older, foster brother pounding up the stairs muttering darkly to himself. He glanced into her room seeing her in the act of packing.
" Where are you off to?" he demanded like any older brother nosing his way into her business.
" A place where there is some peace and quiet. With mom gone you two are at each other's throat almost every minute of the day. I should have gone with her."
" And been expected to wear formal. Remember, that's why you chose not to go in the first place," he reminded her wearing a smirk.
She made a face at just the *thought* of having to wear anything formal. She shrugged her shoulders slinging the pack over her shoulder. " It might have been worth the price, at least then I could hear myself think."
" If dad should ask, and I know he will the moment he figures out you're not in the lab, where are you going?" It was not a request but a demand. He was always playing the part of older brother looking after his little sister. For some reason he took the responsibility seriously.
" I'm going to the Look-out, if you must know. I don't think that I can get into too much trouble there," she stuck her tongue out at him while imagining the place in her mind clearly. Unlike Goku who used *instant transmission* by concentrating on a person's ki she would envision a certain place and then appear there. Some alien she had rescued had showed her the technique a few years ago. It came in handy when she wanted to leave without anyone the wiser.
Trunks gave her a dirty look before departing from her room. She waited until he was in his room before transporting herself to the Look-out. Because she spent so much time there when she was not at home or over at Goku's Dende had decided to set aside a room for her.
She appeared in her quarters which were welcoming and above all, it was quiet. She looked around the place seeing that nothing had changed since she had been there a month ago. Many times she came here when she felt conflicting emotions about her grandfather. He was not necessarily a harsh person, he just was not one who showed strong emotion easily. As a small child of four it had been hard for her to understand that. She had learned to expect solace from her grandmother, Bulma and strength from her grandfather.
She tossed her pack into the closet noting the spare clothes that she had left behind for emergencies. She fingered one of the gi uniforms that she favored during training sessions. Her favorite color was a dark green since it matched her emerald eyes. She stretched realizing how tired she was from the morning session with her grandfather. He would never come out and say it but he thought she was really improving her techniques.
She shut the closet door and went over to the bed where she stretched out allowing herself to relax. She closed her eyes but could not get to sleep. She lay there a moment thinking of the conversion she had had with her grandmother.
According to Bulma, Vegita had come from a long line of warriors called Sayiens who loved nothing more than a good fight. There were a times when she secretly hated her Sayien heritage. If it hadn't been for that bloodline she would not now be stuck in the future being raised by her grandparents. Instead, she would be back home with her parents and three older brothers.
She imagined herself on Vegeta. A blood red world with a gravity pull that was stronger than earth's. She was standing in the middle of the street watching two Saiyans square off against each other. There were others standing there wearing looks of amusement and interest as the two gazed at each other looking for weaknesses. This wasn't a real serious fight this was to see who the stronger was. Money was exchanging hands as the onlookers assessed who the stronger one was.
Both appeared to be evenly matched which would make this a must see fight. What good there in watching a fight when the outcome could be determined before the first punch was thrown? The two warriors started to--
She felt her body jarring and her teeth rattle when she slammed into the ground. Breath was forcibly expelled from her lungs. She lay there panting trying to catch her breath. She forced opened her eyes looking around her. Where was she? Nothing around her looked the least bit familiar. She knew one thing for sure-- that she was no longer in her room at the Look-out.
What made her shake in reaction was the sky above her. It was not the familiar shade of blue that she was use to seeing. Instead, it was a strange shade of red. She gazed up into that sky trying to reflect upon what all this meant.
:I'm no longer on earth. Where am I? And how did I get here? Is all of this some sort of nightmare?: She thought while trying to figure out what had happened. The pain sure felt real and the red sky refused to get away no matter how time she closed her eyes or tried to blink the vision away. :I can't just lay here all day trying to wish all this away,: she sat up feeling a little dizzy. She waited until the fuzzy feeling had gone away before attempting to stand.
She climbed onto wobbly feet focusing her attention on herself looking for any damages. She had a few bruises nothing she could not handle. She had received worse during training sessions with her grandfather. After taking stock of her own personal health she then turned her attention to the environment around her. The place was a little barren, although there was plant growth. The soil was rust colored beneath her feet. She reached down to feel its texture. It was very similar to the stuff back home. That was a relief since that meant something here was at least familiar.
:I am going to have to rise above this growth if I am ever going to see what kind of civilization this world has. Hope the natives are friendly or I'll be forced to defend myself in unfamiliar territory.:
She rose up slowly over the slim plants that studded the area around her. She made sure to take it easy and completely cloak her presence in case there were others around who could sense her. She did not want to call attention to herself in case the natives did prove to be unfriendly. Above the line of trees she could see some sort of structures off in the distance. She could not make out what they were except they were not those of earth.
In the direction where the city was located she could feel some powerful life forces that were strong. They varied in strength as she expected them to be but they were much stronger than the ones she was use to feeling on earth. None of them were on the par of her friends and family. There were weaker ones also present so this place was a mixed bag.
The one thing she did notice about this alien world was that the gravity was heavier than earth's. The oxygen level was also higher, richer which seemed to make up for the heavier gravity. Breathing was not an effort, not that she was bothered by the heavier gravity. She had trained under harder conditions for most of her life. After experiencing 400 degrees of gravity a slight increase did not bother her. She just noted that it did take a little more effort to rise up and that she had to compensate for the heavier gravity in little ways.
She hovered in place a few moments before deciding on a course of action. She could not just go rushing into things. There was no one here to come to her aid if she got into trouble. She was here on her own. Suddenly, the place seemed scary and she felt all alone. She wanted to be home hearing her relatives yelling at each other.
She felt a tear slide down her cheek as the situation impacted itself on her. She was alone on an alien world. No one back home knew where she was. She sank to the ground feeling very dejected. :Grandfather,: she cried, :what would you do? Stuck on an alien world so far from home with no idea on how to get home.: She sat there for awhile feeling sorry for herself before pulling herself together.
" Grandfather would not sit here all day crying over something trivial. He would be out there trying to find answers. This is what I am going to do," she stood up with renewed determination, " I must formulate a plan," she stood there thinking her gaze in the direction of that alien city. "Surely I will find some answers there. Hopefully, they won't be so alien that I will stick out. I can also transport myself here if something goes wrong." A simple plan but it did make her feel better.
She rose up feeling the pull of gravity as she did so. She saw some weird avian type birds fly by overhead. They did not have feathers and she could not tell if they were covered with fur. They were colorful creatures as they soared high flapping their wings every now and then. She smiled, watching them interact with each other until they passed out of sight. They were the first signs of life she had seen since waking up.
She flew down near the treetops so she could seek cover since she did not know the temperament of the locals. The growth grew denser in the direction she was flying in which made it ideal for ground cover. Near the artificial structures the dense growth had been cleared out so that nothing could approach without being spotted. She was not an expert on tactics but she had a picked a few things from her grandfather--the Prince Vegita, whom was an expert on the subject.
She was humming a popular song to herself when she felt two strong ki's approaching rapidly from above her. She instantly dropped into the thick overgrowth, cloaking her lifeforce. She froze in the topmost branches of a sturdy tree looking through the canopy to spy upon these beings. What she saw were two round, metal cylinders hurling through the sky rapidly heading towards the distant city.
This answered the question of whether these people were capable of space travel. If those round objects were any indications then it was a very big yes. Unless, they were invaders come to conqueror this world as her own grandfather had originally intended when he came to earth. Her grandparents had not hidden the truth from their children about Vegita's intentions when he first came.
She sat there in that tree until they had long after they had landed. She did not see any burning debris or sense any diminishing ki. She figured that at least was a good sign that this world was not being invaded. She still did not know if the inhabitants were friendly. The only way to answer that question was to enter into the city.
Teancha scouted out the area as she went looking for hidden dangerous. She did not want to be caught unawares on this alien world. Her grandfather had pounded into her the need to always be on the alert for the unknown. That was how most soldiers lost their lives, by letting down their guard. He would take her out into the wilderness a few times a year to exercise these important lessons. Trunks and Goten would go with them in the early years until they reached puberty and decided that these exercises were a waste of time.
Where the line of trees ended she landed to scope out the city the best she could. She had a picture in her mind of the place where she had woken up. She would retreat there in an instant if trouble found her in the city. She saw that it was setting on a hill that overlooked the surrounding area. It was a good defensive area even in the age of technology. Something about the arrangement of the structures struck her that these were a war-like people. Everything was situated for the maximum of defense or offense.
The buildings in the distance did not resemble those of Westcity. They were sleeker looking reminding her of something from a science fiction flick she had seen last summer. If she had to put a name to what she was seeing she would call it a spaceport.
There were even look-out towers. She could not tell if they were being manned or not. Her eyesight was better than a normal humans, still she did have her limits. She would have to chance a direct approach. She would have to get closer in order to get a visual of what lay on the inside. She did not want to materialize literally under the nose of some alien. The being could cut her down before she could get a real bearing on her surroundings.
Once she got closer she located a place that suited her needs. She made sure no one was present while she transported herself to that location. The atmosphere inside the city was one of danger and deep anticipation. There was something about this place that made the blood in her veins begin to sing.
In many ways the streets reminded her of ones that could be found anywhere on earth. There were some that were narrow and there were others that were wide. There were no super highways or ramps rising above the city. There was traffic in the streets just nothing along the lines of Westcity. There were beings of various colors and sizes that could be seen walking down the street dressed in the same uniform. There was something about their uniform that screamed at her. It was familiar to her.
Some of the locals gave her a wide berth when they spied her. When she dared to approach one resembling a two-legged lizard it gave out a squawking sound darting in the opposite direction. :The natives in these parts sure are skittish,: she noted to herself as she continued on down the street. She snorted walking on until she came to a section that was not as well kept up as the one she had just exited.
:This part of town sure is a dump,: she shook her head in disgust skirting past some rubbish that had been allowed to pile and gave off an offensive odor. She was getting ready to backtrack when she spied a group of four burly, beefy males dressed in the local style. They were walking down the street staggering as they went. :Drunks,: she dismissed them with a snort.
" Hey fellows, look at the fresh meat that is headed our way," one of them slurred to his comrades.
She drew herself up, a very chill and dangerous gleam entering into her dark, emerald eyes. If any of her old friends would have seen that look they would have been running for shelter. Teancha was at her worst when her temper flared up.
Without breaking stride she reached out with her ki and knocked the four men into the side of the nearest building. She stood over them placing one foot firmly on the speaker, " For your information, I do not like to be referred to in the third voice as if I am not visible. You are very lucky that I am in a really good mood or I would have splattered your innards across the width of this...this slime pit of an excuse for civilization."
They were staring at her in some surprise but it was the voice from behind her that told her she had attracted unwanted attention.
" You just attacked several officers in service to his majesty," came a commanding voice.
" This gutter trash? They look more like drunks crawling from the lowest sewer," she spat turning and ducking aside as several figures rushed her.
She laughed at their efforts easily dodging aside their clumsy attempts to apprehend her. She flew above them and sat there watching as they looked wildly about them searching for their target.
" Where did she go?"
" I've never seen anyone move that fast. Not even the super elite."
" Tricks. Must have some sort of cloaking device," their leader dismissed their worries.
Finally, one of them had the sense to look above, " There she is," he pointed and the others looked up.
She sat there with a smirk on her lips, arms folded as if she had no cares in the world. The others rose up til they were almost at eye level with her.
" Think you are so smart by pulling one of our tricks?"
She merely raised an eyebrow in quire of the statement. " I learned to fly when I was four or so. I've had lots of practice in perfecting this technique."
All seven surrounded her and she merely disappeared when they moved in on her. She yawned from the ground growing bored with their antics. She moved off to another locale before they could locate her again. She was shaking her head when she felt a very strong ki someways away. She stopped in her footsteps as she felt a very strong, evil force headed towards this world. She could actually feel its evil intent. She could almost taste it in her mouth. Suddenly, she was feeling very nauseous and almost lost her breakfast.
Almost choking on the gorge in her throat, she began to run towards this threat as she realized that it was strong enough to destroy an entire planet. She looked up as she felt literally thousands of ki appear in the red sky above her. She looked up and saw an alien craft looming in the upper atmosphere. Streaming from it like angry bees from a hive were a host of the this unknown, threatening enemy. She felt the presence of another who seemed to be filled with a strong determination to stop this menace. Compared to this other she knew the defender did not stand a chance.
Cursing at the top of her lungs she began to rise rapidly into the sky. She watched the intense struggle of the one defender and wondered about why the other inhabitants were not also leaping to the planet's defense. She watched as he pitted himself vainly against the host that swarmed around him. He appeared to be strong not willing to give up easily. She admired his strength and determination.
Then the source of that evil, stench that was affecting her senses appeared before them. The defender shouted out a name that she did not catch as did many of the attackers. She watched as the lone fighter send an attack at the owner of that foul stench. She could hear its laughter that made her grit her teeth and bite back bitter bile. She saw the thing gather a large amount of ki at its fingertip before flinging it into he midst of its soldiers. The ki grew larger and larger as it loomed over the entire planet. She shouted out in anger realizing that she was too late to stop the attack. She reacted without fore thought by jumping in, snagging the defender while surrounding both of them with an impenetrable forcefield.
She could feel the desperate struggle to survive of many others far down below them as a brilliant flash of light collided with the planet beneath them. She felt tears of frustration trail down her face as she held the now, unconscious form to her. It was only a matter of time before the world below was gone and they were floating in cold, empty space. She had to get back to a place of safety before that happened. She spread out her shield instinctively surrounding the space around her to create a large air pocket. She concentrated with all her might on a place of safety. The one place she always went when everything seemed to go wrong.
She closed her eyes really concentrating on the one really familiar place where she always felt safest. She focused with all her being ignoring the devastating occurrences going on almost beneath her feet. She ignored the tears that refused to stop flowing. She poured everything she had into trying to get home. She felt herself start to grow weak and everything about her was turning dark.
This concludes chapter one. In the next chapter does Teancha make it home? Who is this stranger that she has rescued? Please review so I know whether to continue this story or shelve it.
