What Dreams Become
Chapter 6
Two of a Kind
Trunks stood there a moment gazing at the double who could easily pass for Goku. Studying the stranger he could detect differences like the scar across one side of his face. He was also not as bulky as Goku, although he was no weakling. Who was this stranger who looked so much like his friend's father?
He ignored the look of triumph that Teancha was wearing. That little smirk of hers meant she was up to something. He had seen it countless times in the past when she thought she had one up on him. That particular smirk usually meant trouble for someone else.
He gave her a smirk of his own as if he knew something that she did not.
" I'm going to love watching you explaining this entire mess to dad. He was wearing his deepest scowl last time I saw him."
" It isn't my fault. I really was on Vegeta! " She sounded frustrated and little rocks in the yard began to fly up.
" Tean," he admonished her, " Do you want to attract attention to this location? Dad is really, really angry with you right now. I don't think he is going to swallow this story of yours about being on his home planet."
" My guest is obviously a Sayian-- "
" Who can speak for himself," Bardock interrupted crossing his arms and staring down the two youngsters, " You two are making some pretty assumptions by claiming to be of my race. For starters you do lack a tail and you lack the typical features. I do not believe--"
The two shared a grin of pure mischief as they prepared to power up until a voice came from behind them.
" Hey guys," Goku appeared in the air above them. He floated down to land gently on the ground, " Vegita is getting a little impatient. What's holding the both of you up..."
He stopped when he caught sight of another figured dressed in what appeared to be one of his old, orange gi. " Tean, mind explaining what's going on?"
" Ah, grandpa, Bardock. Bardock, Goku," she uttered trying to think of a way to explain the situation.
There was a very tense silence as the two eyed each other.
The stillness was shattered when a name was bellowed across the compound. Muttering one of the more colorful phrases she had overheard from Bardock, she gave them a helpless look. Goku eyebrows raised to his hairline at hearing those words come out of his grandchild's mouth. Trunks' mouth was hanging open in shock while Bardock chuckled darkly.
" I have got to go," she practically ran from the scene hoping the three males would not kill each other.
She used super-speed to cross the compound until she arrived in the livingroom where her grandfather was pacing very impatiently.
" Papa," she addressed him very cautiously.
" Sit," he commanded and she sat in the nearest chair a heavy sinking in her beating heart. " Where have you been?" He emphasized each word almost biting them as they left his mouth.
" I was in maman's old worklab,"she said softly gazing down at her feet rather than stare into the fiery depths of his obsidian eyes.
" You told Trunks you were going to the Look-out. Three days ago. Was that a lie?" He fired the question as if it were a blast to penetrate her shields.
" No, papa," she shook her head in denial, " I really did go there then I came back here to work on a project."
" You were working on a *project* this whole time without bothering to let any of us know where you were," each word struck like the crack of a whip drawing blood from the intended victim.
Tears sprang into her eyes at the deep disappointment that was laced heavily in his words. " Yes, papa," she whispered.
" You have acted the irresponsible child not the independent, responsible individual I have come to respect," his words were acid being poured over open wounds. " I expected better of you a mistake I will not make in the future, "his tones were even but colder than any ice world. " Something untold could have happened and I would never have known about until the aftermath, if then,"
" I'm sorry, papa," tears continued to trail down her face.
" Act the child, and I will treat you as one. As of today all your privileges have been revoked. No longer will you fly off blithely to another destination with only a word of where you are going. The Look-out is off-limits unless you have permission from me."
" But, papa," she began to protest then abruptly closed her mouth when she saw just how close he was to losing his temperament. She sank back into her seat.
" You spend way too much time there as it is. Dende has other things to do than look after some snotty-nosed, little brat. This is your home, not the Sky Palace.
" You are restricted to the main compound," he went on, " Bulma's old worklab shall be torn down. It should have been taken down ages ago an oversight that shall be corrected."
" Please, papa, I have good memories about that place. That's where I go to--"
" Silence," he cut across her protests, " I am not through and you will not speak unless I have asked a question. You are this close," he held thumb and forefinger as a measurement, " to getting a beating that you so richly deserve."
Teancha swallowed and sank a little deeper into the chair.

"Dad's going to kill Tean," Trunks muttered still stunned at the words she had just uttered.
" Where did my granddaughter pick up that kind of language from? Trunks," Goku was demanding of him.
"Huh. Not me," he hotly denied. He had learned to curb his more colorful language around his younger sister when she was first learning to talk and parroting everything that she heard. " Mom would roast my gizzard over a very slow fire if she ever caught me even thinking those words. That was more colorful than most ones that I have ever heard."
Both seemed to come to the obvious conclusion at the same time as two pair of eyes swung to rest on the stranger who resembled Goku too much to be coincidence.
Bardock was staring at Gkou with something akin to shock.
" Kakarrot?" :This is my son? But how? He's older than I am. What is going on? Am I in the middle of some living nightmare? Nothing here is making sense. It all started when I woke up and heard that girl laughing.:
" I want answers and I want them right now. Is this some kind of warped game of Frieza's?" :Have I really just lost my mind? Damn these visions. Is that all this is?:
" Frieza?" Goku eyed him strangely while Trunks snorted at what he saw as ancient history, "Man, are you way behind the times. Frieza is history you are looking at the person who sent him on his way into the next dimension," he indicated Goku.
" That's what the kid tried to tell me. I have a hard time swallowing that since I saw him destroy my world."
" What world was this," Goku asked wearing a thoughtful frown while signaling to Trunks to remain silent.
" Vegeta as if you did not already know."
Trunks opened his mouth to make some smart remark then close it abruptly when his elder narrowed his eyes.
" The planet of Vegeta was destroyed when I was just an infant. I have no memories of the place since they sent me away in a pod that crash landed here. I never knew the place existed until others from that planet came here seeking me. Right now there are only two full bloodied Sayians left, not including you."
" Two left? That's all? Who is the other survivor?"
" Vegita. Trunks' father. If what you say is true then somehow you have wound up forty years in the future."
" Forty years? That girl. How did she bring me here? Does she have some sort of device that allows her to travel in time? What was her purpose in bringing me here?"
:Could he actually be telling me the truth? He does look like my son I saw in the visions. Here he is older looking and more mature. Vegita the only other survivor. I did hear that Frieza had plans for him. So, the rumors of the Prince being taken from our King were true after all,: he stared briefly over at the Prince's son seeing that there was a strong resemblance between the two.
" You mean Tean is telling the truth? That she just spent the last three days on Vegeta? " Trunks all but shouted this news that was hard to grasp.
" Trunks, you are going to have to tell me more about this technique that the alien taught her two years ago," Goku sounded calm rather than upset. He was taking this stunning news easier than the younger man was.
" There really isn't much to tell. Tean is really secretive about this new technique of hers. She hardly uses it around anyone. I don't think dad is even aware of this new ability. She can be just as secretive as dad when it comes to these things. I do know that she has been going off on her own a lot lately and that Dad's been trying to keep tabs on her which she has been resisting in a major way."
Son wore a little ironic smile, " She can be like him at times but she has a big heart. Has she been difficult or anything?"
He shook his head, " No more than usual. She is almost a teenager," he reminded Goku with a little arched look.
" The struggle for independence. Has she gone boy crazy yet?"
Trunks laughed, " She thinks the other half of the species except for her male relatives-- depending upon her mood-- should disappear. Her height makes her look older so sometimes male teens try to hit on her. A few choice words usually sends them running."
Goku laughed since his grandchild was good looking with her long silver hair and lithe figure. She had not yet filled out which he was thankful for. He did not envy Vegita having to fend off hungry, hormonal sniffing boys. He had one in his own household.
" You knew my Sayian name. How?"
" Kakarrot was my son's name," it was his turn to throw a curve ball.
" What!" Trunks called out and wanted to hit Goku for his very calm reply of, " Well, that makes perfect sense to me since we both look alike. The problem is what am going to tell Chichi. She's my wife and doesn't react to surprises very well."
Trunks snorted as if this was an understatement of great proportions.
"We'd better see Vegita before he skins through even Teancha's tough hide," Goku said lightly as if the whole process was not crazy.
* * *
Teancha could hear the approach of the others and welcomed the interruption as her grandfather was laying down the law and putting another nail into her coffin of doom.
The door slid open, "Teancha, go to your room and don't bother coming out until you have my say so," came the order.
She sat there a moment trying to decide if she should risk the wrath of death or just make a dash for it.
:I am no longer a little kid to be intimidated by a look,: she finally decided, : I can take anything that he throws at me. Bring it on!:
The cold, stare of death sent her jumping to her feet. His eyes seemed to freeze the little red cells in her veins. Even the tears leaking beneath her lashes seemed to be turning into long icicles.
:Maybe I can risk it at a later date. Grandfather looks like he really means business. I don't think I want to risk provoking him at this moment in time,: she reasoned sprinting up the stairs towards her room.
She could hear the others gathering in the livingroom and Goten, the coward, was returning to the room after hiding out in the kitchen. He had conveniently disappeared the moment she entered into the building. She really couldn't blame him since he had seen the wrath of Vegita when playing jokes on her grandfather with Trunks when he was little. She had joined in a few times on those jokes.
She wanted to sit on the staircase and listen to their conversation only her grandfather had long range hearing. It was nothing like a Namek's but he would be listening for the closing of her door. She wanted to slam it with all her might, that would only get her into more trouble.
She reached out with her mind to look down upon the five males who were gathered there. All of them were wearing serious expressions. Her grandfather seemed to recognize who the stranger was and was looking towards Goku for an explanation.
" Where did Bardock come from? He died when Frieza destroyed our home planet," he seemed almost incensed at this unwanted discovery. He had put the past behind him learning to live with the fact that he was the last of his kind. He would spend the rest of his days on earth with his half-breed offspring. His line would continue even if they were not full blooded Sayians. He was content to end his days with a mate who understood him and his needs. Someone who accepted him as he was without trying to change him.
" Vegita, your grandchild, Teancha was on the planet Vegeta three days ago. It would seem that only now has she returned to earth. How she accomplished this feat is not known," Goku began in a normal tone of voice.
" How is that possible? She would have had to cross space and time to arrive there. Are you making up this ridiculous tale to cover--"
" No, he's not for she was there at the very same moment when Frieza unleashed a ball of energy powerful enough to end the planet. Somehow she managed to grab me before the blast consumed me," Bardock boldly spoke up to his Prince. He was not feeling any particular loyalty towards the child but he knew the facts.
" She was there at that particular moment," his tone was deceptively calm making the watching Teancha shiver.
" Yes, Lord Vegita, she was."
" Then we will have to find out how she accomplished the impossible and why," there was a promise in those words that shook her to the core making her break the contact.
This ends chapter 6. Wonder what Vegita has in store for Teancha. And what is this? Someone has just driven up to Capsule corps. Wonder who this could be. Find out who has come to add to this mess.
