Chapter One: Wizard's Curse

"Videl, what's wrong?" he asked, slowing down just a tiny bit so he could talk to her through the hard blowing wind. "You ok?"

Videl brought her arms up to her face, blocking the wind as best she could. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Gohan grinned, staying close to make sure that she was alright. However, only after a few moments, she started to slow down even more.

Kabito frowned at Gohan and Videl, and announced, "We have to move faster."

Gohan nodded, looking back at Videl. "Hold on a second," he said, coming up next to Videl and watching as she squinted her watering eyes, trying to keep the salty water from falling over. "How ya doing, Videl?" He could tell she was having a hard time keeping up, not to mention trying to see straight through the wind.

"Gohan, I can't keep my eyes open," she said, almost in a whining voice. She looked over at him, trying not to show him how upset she really was. He saw right through it however, and he smiled.

"Ah, come on, Videl. You're just not used to the wind yet. If you fly for a little longer it won't really bother you."

Videl shook her head, and stopped in mid-flight, looking around her. The scenery was beautiful, the rocky ground spotted with occasional lakes and ponds, small fields of bright flowers and tufts of green and brown grass sticking out of the crags. She felt horrible, not about keeping them behind and slowing them down almost unbearably, but about not being strong enough herself to stay with Gohan and Kabito. She wasn't particularly tired, it was just her eyes...they just kept watering, and it was driving her nuts not being able to see.

Gohan halted in the air, giving Videl a concerned look. "Come on, Videl. It's-"

Videl sighed loudly, almost in an annoyed way, and she interrupted his oncoming speech in the process. Kabito flew slightly ahead of them, leaving them their privacy. "I'm too slow, Gohan. I should just go back and let you and Kabito leave. I'm just holding you back," she mumbled, looking down at the jagged and rugged landscape below her.

Gohan frowned at her. For some unknown reason he wanted her to stay with him. "It's alright, Videl. You can still come with us."

Videl glared at him with her dark purple eyes, which were normally alight with amusement, and a much lighter color. "No, Gohan. I'm just slowing you down, like I already said." She paused, looking behind her. "I'm turning back."

He, for some unknown reason, almost panicked. He shook his head almost violently, and then took hold of her arms, shaking his head again. "No, don't worry about it. I got your problem solved." He grinned the same smile he got from his father, all but laughing at himself and his ingenious plan. "I'll just carry you," he said innocently, and wrapped his arms around her. She was suddenly up against a hard muscular chest, her face nearly smothered in his green gi as he took off, flying up to Kabito. She struggled futilely to get out of his strong hold, protesting weakly, "Gohan!! Let me go!! What are you doing?! Are you insane?!"

He gave her the traditional Son smile again. "Sorry if I scared you, Videl. I just wanted you to come along. I hope you're not mad at me."

How could she resist that tone of voice? She relaxed reluctantly and thought about how sincere he had sounded, and how he had made her feel less nervous immediately about being so close to him. She took this time to rest herself, twining her arms around his back, and holding on tight as him and Kabito blasted off at an incredible speed. All she could of was, wow, their fast!

She let the air flow over her like a firm caress, closing her eyes and drawing in a deep breath as she let her head rest tentatively against Gohan's chest. She could almost picture the blush on his face as he held her closer to his body, making her feel oddly safe and comfortably warm.

Gohan looked down after a few minutes, some sort of instinct wanting him to check and make sure she was alright in his arms. His eyes widened slightly, and he looked quickly over at Kabito before his gaze softened.

Videl was asleep, her face relaxed and peaceful in her slumber. He studied her soft features, realizing for the first time how beautiful she actually was. He tightened his arms around her protectively, wondering why he had never really noticed before. He had to admit though, that he was happy he had decided to bring her along. He had the feeling that she was going to be an important factor in the upcoming fight.

Author's Note: Short chapter, but believe me, they get a LOT longer. Some chapters are almost 40 pages. Stupid, yes, I know. You don't have to tell me. I already know. So please, review. This story originally had almost 2000 reviews, but because it's been removed so many times, it now has ZERO. So lets try to get over at least 100 reviews, ok? It would help my self-esteem. Lol. REVIEW!
