Disclaimer: Okay, how about we make a deal? I'll give up the rights to Dragon Knights, but with one exception - Rath is MINE! Bwuhahaha... Oh wait, I never had the rights. [sob]
A/N: Wow, I actually did a disclaimer this time! At least, sort of... Be proud of me ^_^
You know what stinks? B-chan has Dragon Knights 17! And I don't! I went to Borders yesterday, and they didn't have it! [sob] It's torture! Hmm... Argh, this chapter is freakish. Can you say soap opera? And I thought I'd had too much sugar right now... Er, enjoy?

Chapter Four: Old Habits Die Hard
===============================================================< /div>
Rune walked leisurely through the gardens, feeling more at ease than he had in days. Okay, so maybe Ruwalk and Alfeegi hadn't been able to offer any concrete help, but they had still made him feel better. It was nice to get someone else's opinion; from their point of view, it didn't look so end-all horrible. After all, he'd been able to get over Thatz once, so he should be able to do it again.
The elf paused to paused to smell a flower, half-seriously considering the bar idea. He grinned slightly. Well, if he were to go to one, even if it was just to forget about things for a little while, he knew it wouldn't be with Ruwalk and Alfeegi. Alfeegi didn't want to, and he was sure that he wouldn't let Ruwalk either.
It had been surprising to learn that they had been together for so long. Almost three years? How had they managed to stand each other all that time? They seemed to get on one another's nerve a lot. In fact, they kind of reminded him of Thatz and himself; now *they* hadn't lasted nearly that long... He frowned. What if they'd had a chance, after all? If he hadn't taken it into his head that they needed to break up, that things would really be easier that way even if he did still love Thatz, would they still be together right now?
Suddenly, he scowled. Whoa, whatever happened to getting over Thatz? Okay, what he needed to do was just stop thinking about him, and Rath, and everything. After all, this whole control-over-your-own-mind thing was supposed to come naturally to elves, right? So he shouldn't have any trouble not thinking about him if he just concentrated... especially when he had weird noises to distract him...
He looked around, trying to figure out where it was coming from. It sounded like voices... or something... Finally, he realized that it was coming from the other side of a hedge wall. He peered through it as best he could, and what he saw made his eyes go wide.
Rath, completely naked, leaning against a statue. And Thatz, also naked... apparently giving his koi a blow-job... Nose bleed. Rune knew he should look away, but he couldn't seem to convince himself to. As he watched, Rath let out a moan of pleasure; his eyes were closed and his mouth open slightly in an expression of bliss. This was a side of the Fire knight that Rune had never seen, and for a fleeting moment he thought it was a side he might like to get to know better... And then there was Thatz. Just seeing him in the middle of something so erotic ignited old feelings that Rune knew were better forgotten.
As he watched Rath reached his climax, just barely muffling what was obviously a scream. Rune's eyes widened further and he suddenly decided that he'd better leave; he felt disgusted. Not by what he'd just seen; actually, he was feeling uncomfortably turned on thanks to it. He was disgusted with himself, for being such a sex-deprived jerk and watching.
Yeah, he needed psychiatric help; no doubt about it. Why had he broken up with Thatz again? And was he feeling attracted to Rath too, after all? Gods, he was such a mess; not only was he in love with two boys, but they were both in love with other people themselves - each other! It made his brain hurt just thinking about it. His traitorous mind strayed to the thought of a threesome. No! Bad! Yuck!
'I'm doomed...'

Rath frowned slightly, still breathing hard. "Did you hear that?"
Thatz blinked. "What?" He smirked. "Oh, you mean you screaming?"
He glowered at him. "No! I mean... Oh, never mind."
Thatz beamed. "Okay. My turn!"

The day was getting old. The castle members had already had dinner, and the sun was beginning to set. The waxing moon was high in the sky, waiting to take over the moment its brighter counterpart departed.
Thatz sighed, looking over it all from the balcony attached to his room.
He had always considered himself lucky to have gotten this room. From the balcony, he had a wonderful view of the famous palace gardens. They looked especially beautiful in the light of the setting sun. But Thatz wasn't really looking at them; he was much too caught up in thought.
He felt so... messed up. He should be happy right now. He had a great boyfriend - incredibly hot, but also a great friend - and they didn't even have to hide their relationship from the closest thing either of them had to family, the other castle members. But every time he tried to think about how happy he was with Rath, his mind would stray to Rune...
Just the thought of the blonde elf sent him on a guilt trip, these days. He couldn't imagine how upset Rune must be right now. He knew Rune had never really gotten over them; it was beyond Thatz why Rune had chosen to break up with him if it hurt the elf just as much as it hurt him. But eventually he decided that he was ready to move on. He had been getting interested in Rath for a while, and after they got together he had fallen in love with him even more. Unfortunately, the water knight had no such luck; he had found no one to take his mind off the past. He saw the way he looked whenever they had meals; Rune was obviously taking all this 'coming out' stuff pretty hard.
Thatz abruptly stood up, stretched, and yawned. Well, that was all there was to it, he decided, with the same sort of lazy lack of worry that he did pretty much everything else. He was just going to have to go talk to Rune. He wasn't sure exactly what he would say, but he felt obliged to offer at least some sort of apology.

Rune lay in bed, but he wasn't asleep, not by a long shot. Thoughts chased each other through his head like rabid squirrels. He had to get this business with Rath and Thatz sorted out, he had decided, or he was going to have a migraine.
He still loved Thatz; he was sure of that much, at least. He loved him so much that it hurt. But Rath... What exactly was he feeling towards the castle's resident pyro, anyway? Hmm...
Just then there was a knock on the door. He sighed, sitting up and running his fingers through his hair before calling out, "Come in."
Thatz stuck his head through the door, grinning sheepishly. "Um... hi. Can I talk to you for a minute?"
Rune stared. Gorgeous... No! Focus. What could he possible want to talk about? They hadn't exchanged a single word since the party... "Sure," he managed to say.
Thatz paused just a second longer, then came the whole way in, though he still stayed in that half of the room. "Um, thanks... Hey, I was wondering something, uh... Are you mad at me?" `Stupid Thatz! Of course he's mad at you.'
Rune winced. Oh, just his luck; it was about all that. He hadn't even really sorted his feeling out. But he'd better be honest, he supposed. "Yeah, a little, I guess... Selfish, huh?"
"Oh, no!" the former thief said earnestly, glad that he hadn't gotten his head chewed off. "I understand. Is there... Is there anything I could do to make you feel better? I could set you up with somebody."
Rune shook his head; he would have laughed if he'd been in the mood. Yeah, there was something he could do to make him feel better, but he doubted it was something he would agree to. "No thanks; I'll be fine."
Thatz hesitated again, feeling very awkward. "Well, okay... I guess I'll, er, go, then..." He turned to leave.
"Wait!"
Thatz glanced back at him; the elf looked just as surprised as he felt. "Could you... Just stay for a minute? We could talk..." Rune started mentally whacking himself; that sounded so pathetic.
But to his surprise, Thatz smiled a little, and came over to sit next to him on the bed. "Okay, if you want me to. What do you want to talk about?"
He blushed. "Um..." There seemed to be a lot of that going around lately. `Stupid Rune!' It didn't help that Thatz's eyes were such an interesting green color, or that they caught the light in such a fascinating way...
Then Thatz kissed him.
It was a soft kiss, but passionate. Apparently developing a mind of their own, Rune's fingers wove through Thatz's hair, pulling his closer. Then his brain caught up with... other organs, and he shoved him away.
"Thatz," he panted, hating himself for it, "what about, mmph..." `Rath... Oh, forget Rath; you're being kissed for crying out loud!'
And forget he did. Somehow or another he wound up on his back, with Thatz's weight gently crushing him. This was so wonderfully familiar... He could remember all the places to touch, or kiss, or bite, to drive Thatz crazy like they had been doing this all the time just yesterday. And - he gasped - apparently the same held true for Thatz. What had happened to his shirt? Wait, both their shirts... He wanted this so bad; he had missed this so bad...
The door opened. "Rune, have you seen..."
===============================================================< /div>
Rath smirked, almost evilly, as he crept down the corridor. His mission: scare the living crap out of Thatz, then seduce him into taking a bath with him. He needed help washing his back, honest he did.
There was his door. He could get from his room to Thatz's room in his sleep. He opened it as quietly as he could, and looked around.
Turns out, he wasn't there. Not in the main room, or the bathroom, or on the balcony, or even stuck in the closet. He checked quite thoroughly. It wasn't that much of a surprise though; if he wasn't in his room he was probably in the kitchen seeing if there were any leftovers from that cake...
But he wasn't there either. Well, he still wasn't practically worried. It wasn't like he had anything better to do; he would find him eventually. Who knew; maybe Thatz was looking for *him*. Rath grinned; yeah, that would be funny. Maybe he was in the gardens? Oh, but first he should ask Rune. Maybe if he badgered the elf enough, he would even help him look.
Maybe it was his own obscenely cheerful mood that made him miss the sounds of muffled moans and gasps coming from inside Rune's room. Or maybe they were just really well muffled. But be it as it may, he had opened the door and even gotten as far as, "Rune, have you seen..." before his brain managed to process what he was seeing.
Ever so slowly, not really wanting to see whatever Rune had seen that was making him look like he wanted to die, Thatz turned his head. ...Dying would take too long, he decided; he might have to endure several whole seconds of this moment before he bit the dust. "Rath, um, I..."
When Rath spoke, his voice was strangely calm. All the members of the dragon tribe, as well as all the demons he had killed, knew this was a bad sign. "Thatz, what are you doing?"
"It's all my fault," Rune blurted. "I-I'm so sorry..." But Rath was already out the door.
Thatz leapt up, fully prepared to go running down the castle's hallways without a shirt, when Rune grabbed his arm.
"Hold on! Don't you think we should give him a chance to cool down?"
The earth knight took a deep breath, swallowing any harsh replies like `shut up; this is all your fault anyway!' or `he's my lover, not yours!' and realized that he was right. After seeing what he'd just seen, there was no way Rath would listen to reason. "Okay," he sighed, sitting back down reluctantly. "But what should we do?"
"Well," Rune suggested hesitantly, "we could ask someone for advice."
He snorted. "I really don't want to tell anyone about this, Rune; not until we get everything sorted out. It's already messy enough as it is..."
But Rune shook his head. "No, listen. There's someone - well, actually there's two people - who already know..."

A/N: Yes, it's awful, I know T_T But at least it's not as short as the last two, right? [hopeful grin] But anyhoo... [insane giggle] Yup, you guessed it; the title of the next chapter: Ruwalk the Relationship Counselor PART TWO! And... Poooooosh the lil' button! Y'know, the one marked review? [grovel, grovel]
