Chapter 6. [You Were] Born To Be My Baby

[& Baby I Was Made To Be Your Man]

(Bon Jovi)

"Randy! Oh God, Randy!" Dee yelled, practically throwing JJ off as he saw the blond start to sway as Ryo's face turned a pale white and his dark eyes rolled back in his head. Leaping out of the bed, Dee forgot the pain of his own injuries as he ran to Ryo's side and caught him just before he crumpled to the ground. He hugged Ryo close to his chest, desperately wondering if he was going to be okay. The handsome man had lost more weight since Dee had seen him last and Dee was concerned, as his partner already had a slender frame. Actually, he had a gorgeous and very alluring body, Dee reflected as he ran his hands gently over Ryo's sides, checking him for any injuries from the fall. JJ saw the worried look in Dee's eyes as his eyes never left his partner. He walked quietly out of the room, eyes downcast and feeling dejected, not wanting to disturb what obviously was true love.

Dee continued to take in Ryo's gentle features, memorizing each contour of his perfect face as he lifted him up in his arms and placed his limp body gingerly onto the bed. The man was a dream come true, Dee mused. As he brushed a stray wisp of hair away from Ryo's closed eyes, his breathing quickened slightly as he felt the inviting warmth emanating from Ryo's smooth skin. Dee stroked Ryo's cheek lovingly with feather-light caresses and whispered in longing, "If only things were different, then maybe you and I could be together," the pain of being so close to the unattainable object of his desire wrenching his heart. Hesitantly he leaned down and brushed his soft lips against Ryo's forehead, letting them remain there for a second before moving away and once again marveling at the glorious sight of the man lying before him. Tearing his emerald eyes away from the sleeping beauty with a reluctant sigh and breaking the tender contact, Dee got a wet washcloth from the bathroom to put on Ryo's forehead and gently massaged Ryo's wrists in an attempt to revive him from his fainting spell.

Eventually Ryo's breathing began to deepen steadily and his gorgeous eyes fluttered open, taking in Dee's anxious face above him, only inches away from his own. He inhaled sharply and blushed furiously. "I-I'm sorry," Ryo said weakly. "I-I didn't mean to interrupt you," he finished, trying desperately to keep the underlying hurt out of his voice.

"It's okay, you didn't," Dee said firmly, his heart going out to the man underneath him who obviously was in so much pain, conflict tearing apart his very soul. Ryo froze in hesitant expectation at Dee's near proximity. The man continued to gaze deeper into Ryo's hurting soul, trying to fathom the cause for the tortured splay of emotions that mirrored his own confusion as he seemed to drown in Ryo's midnight depths. Ryo's beautiful smoldering eyes never seemed so dark before to Dee.

Ryo's heart began to beat faster, his body captivated by Dee's intense gaze that seemed to bore right through him. `Why did he always feel so intimidated by Dee's closeness?' Ryo wondered. Giving into his desires, he spoke the name that resonated from deep within his heart - the name that had been forever consummated with searing passion onto his soul so long ago. "Dee," he breathed longingly in a sultry sigh that escaped his slightly parted lips.

"Don't try to talk yet," Dee said as he put one finger to Ryo's lips delicately to silence him and moved his face closer to Ryo's. "You don't want to overdo it." Dee's searching eyes encompassed the utmost concern for Ryo, again wondering if the fragile man was going to be all right. Dee pressed closer to Ryo, his body unconsciously covering the other man's protectively. Dee was now so close to Ryo that Ryo could feel Dee's gentle breath against his lips. Ryo could only nod and whimper slightly, a pleading look resonating from his hazy eyes. God, Dee so wanted to kiss this man - no, this angel - who had fallen out of heaven and into his arms. But now was not the time. Not when he was so torn up inside and not sure who he loved or who he could trust anymore. Even his heart had deceived him.

As Dee pulled away reluctantly, breaking the sexual tension in the air momentarily and all physical contact, he offered a disarming smile and held out a hand to help Ryo up. Ryo reached out his hand tentatively and repressed his feelings of disappointment at the loss of intimate contact emanating from Dee's warm body. He was so sure that Dee had been about to kiss him, and it was what he wanted more than anything right now. He craved the pleasure Dee's kisses could bring him. He wanted to feel Dee's sultry lips against his own. He wanted to feel whole again.

As Dee led Ryo towards the doorway, his arm wrapped protectively around Ryo's waist as Ryo draped his hand over Dee's shoulder, they came face-to-face with…

"Elena!" Ryo gasped, feeling a bit guilty at having to make her and Bikky wait for so long while he had been passed out. Dee, however, mistook Ryo's feelings of guilt for those of being caught doing something he wasn't supposed to, and he released his grasp around Ryo's waist as he handed him over to Elena's outstretched arms a bit reluctantly. She guided the exhausted Ryo into the wheelchair that she had brought with her, and Ryo offered no protest as he collapsed against the wheelchair, wearily closing his eyes and falling asleep, utterly exhausted.

As she stood there gazing down at Ryo, Elena said, "Thank you so much for taking care of him, Dee. I had a feeling that something like this might happen, so I stopped by to check in on him. I hope that you are feeling well enough to go home soon too," she said warmly as she wheeled Ryo out the door.

Dee blinked in astonishment at his apparent rival for Ryo's affections being so kind to him. This man and his family were just too good to be true. To his surprise, he found himself liking the woman in spite of his initial jealousy. "Well, make sure you call me and let me know how he's doing," Dee managed to get out before Elena turned back to him.

"I'll have him come tell you himself," she said, winking suggestively.

"Do you really think he'll come see me again?" Dee asked, knowing that Elena hadn't witnessed what Ryo just had.

"Of course; why wouldn't he? He still loves you, you know," she said, planting a quick kiss on Dee's cheek as he looked at her with only a stunned expression on his handsome face, his mouth hanging open. And with that, she flipped her hair over her shoulders and sauntered away, pushing Ryo and humming a soft tune as she waved to Bikky in the waiting room. All three of them made their way out to the car, Elena pushing Ryo along. She did not tell the nurses that Ryo had fainted, for she felt that being at home with her taking care of him would be better for his recovery. Maybe then with Bikky around to keep him company as well, he would not constantly be worrying about Dee.

The gorgeous emerald-eyed man walked over to his bed and sat down, shocked. Randy loved him? Randy had loved him all along? `No, that couldn't be true,' he thought. If he had in fact been involved in a relationship with the other man, wouldn't he have said something to Dee by now? Although, he could not get Ryo's hurt expression at seeing him with JJ out of his mind. Ahhhh - everything was just so confusing! Dee was going to have to find some answers, and fast. He didn't know how much more of this not-knowing he could take. He could not keep bottling up his emotions inside like this. He had to talk to someone before he exploded. Every man had their breaking point. Dee's was inevitable and soon he would reach the point of no return and be pulled into the depths of the dark abyss with an unrelenting fury.

"Thanks, Bikky," Ryo said with a grateful smile as he sat up in bed, stretching, and accepted the tray of food Bikky offered to him, balancing it on his lap. He looked at the cup of tea and the bowl of homemade soup and crackers that his Aunt Elena had prepared for him and began to eat the food, the first substantial meal that he had eaten in close to a week.

"I'm sorry if I woke you," Bikky said apologetically as he moved towards the door, "but you know Elena - she insisted that you eat something, and I wasn't about to argue with her."

"That's okay; I was just resting anyway," Ryo said, placing the tray on the bedside table and indicating a spot on the bed for Bikky to come over and sit down. "Come here. It's been awhile since we've talked together. I'm sorry that I haven't been myself lately. It's just that I've felt so hopeless and alone without Dee that I kinda lost myself for awhile there," Ryo said, his dark eyes conveying his honesty to the young boy.

"Wow, you must really miss him," Bikky observed. "I never really noticed how much of an affect his well-being had on your happiness until after the accident."

"Well, when you're in love, the fate of your own happiness lies intertwined with every action, every word, every whim, of the one who shares your soul," Ryo said wistfully, thinking of how much Dee meant to him. "I'm sorry that you had to hear this, Bikky. I know you aren't comfortable with my relationship with Dee," Ryo broke off, blushing furiously.

"No Ryo, it's okay. I appreciate that you can talk to me on an adult level and not treat me like a little kid," Bikky said, putting his arms around Ryo's shoulders. "And really, Dee's not that bad. I guess it's just because him and I are so similar that we clash - being two street kids and all. I don't care if you're in love with a guy - it's the person you love, not their gender. Seeing you and Dee together taught me that. I just get worried about you and I know that Dee didn't have the greatest reputation in the past, so of course I use that as ammunition against him. It's just keeping with tradition - it's fun to harass the perv. I just want to see you happy, even if that means not having you all to myself. Go for it - win Dee back," Bikky finished, a genuine look of acceptance crossing his face.

"Do you really feel that way about Dee, Bikky?" Ryo asked. When the boy nodded wholeheartedly, Ryo pressed his next question to the youth. "Well then, how do you feel about me asking Dee to move in with us after he gets released from the hospital?" Ryo asked quietly. "I know it would be an adjustment having him around all the time, but I wanted to know how you felt before asking him, that is - if he still loves me," Ryo said, a bit remorsefully as he remembered walking in on Dee and JJ and Dee's reluctance to kiss him.

In response, Bikky left the room, returning shortly with a small object behind his back. "Does this answer your question?" he asked, handing Ryo the object as Ryo turned it over in his hands and studied it intently.

Ryo gasped when he realized that it was a framed picture of Dee. Dee was sleeping shirtless and sprawled out on Ryo's couch, his face radiating a peaceful serenity. He slumbered innocently as if he didn't possess a care in the world. His emerald eyes were shadowed by his dark lashes and his ebony hair was disheveled, only adding to his aura of untamed masculinity. It was a beautiful picture that conveyed a softer side of Dee that he shielded from the world. It was an intimate portrayal of the side of Dee that he only revealed to Ryo. With midnight eyes now brimming with unshed tears, Ryo tore his gaze away from the man in the photograph and met Bikky's intense blue stare, quietly asking in wonder, "Where did you get this?"

"Oh, I took it one day when the perv was waiting for you to come home and he fell asleep on your couch. I was planning to use it as blackmail at some point, but I figured that you might actually like the picture, so I figured what the hell, I might as well save it for a rainy day when you would need to be cheered up," Bikky admitted. "When I knew you were coming home, I asked Elena to help me pick out a frame for it."

"Thank you so much, Bikky. This means the world to me," Ryo whispered, tears falling down his pale cheeks as he pulled Bikky close.

"Yeah, well I'm not promising that I'll cut Dee any slack when he lives here though," Bikky said with a devilish twinkle in his eye. "But I won't ever go too far again. I don't want anything else to happen to him or to you. I love you, Ryo."

"Oh Bikky, you know that I don't blame you or your harsh words for causing the accident. Sometimes these things just happen and there's nothing that you can do but become stronger, rely on your inner strength, and get through them," Ryo said earnestly.

"Thanks, Ryo. I think that for awhile there I just wanted to place all of my hate and frustration on Dee. Thanks for still loving me despite everything," Bikky said softly.

"Oh Bikky, I will always love you no matter what," Ryo whispered as he hugged Bikky closer to his slender body. "Don't ever think otherwise." Nodding and hugging Ryo one final time, Bikky picked up Ryo's tray of remaining food and took it out to the kitchen to give to Elena before sitting down to eat with her.

Ryo leaned back against the pillows and sighed, deep in thought. Although he still loved Dee with all his heart, he could not get the picture of Dee and JJ out of his mind that seemed to permeate all of his thoughts. Ryo could not believe the unparalleled depths of hurt and anger that he had felt when he had seen Dee in the arms of another. Although he could not blame Dee for being deceived by JJ in his current mindset, he was furious at JJ for taking advantage of the one person that he truly loved and whose companionship he valued more than life itself. True, Ryo had been too shocked initially to do anything and had automatically backed off, apologizing for interrupting the private moment, but now he knew that he had to stand up for himself and what he and Dee had together if he did not want to risk losing the one he wanted and desired with unsurpassed love and devotion.

Ryo stared at the photograph of Dee in his hands. This man embodied all of his hopes and dreams. He held the promise of what was to come in Ryo's future. If it was anything like what they had discovered in each other before the accident, then things could only get better with time. Ryo just had to reach deep down inside his heart and conquer his inner fears. He had to show Dee that he was comfortable with the idea of their relationship. He might even have to initiate things with the usually persistent ebony-haired man. Ryo had sensed Dee's reluctance to explore their relationship even though he felt that Dee had yearned to kiss him from the depths of his heart. That was it! Dee hadn't known how Ryo felt about him. Ryo had never told him. It all made sense now - the unspoken hesitation behind Dee's emerald depths, the slight falter of indecision that came before the withdrawal from Ryo's prone body that had practically begged for Dee's touch.

But how to do it? Ryo was not experienced in the matters of the pursuit of love and the art of seduction like Dee was. In fact, he had never felt such a burning desire for another that would warrant such brash actions from his usually reserved demeanor before he had met Dee. Dee had won him over with one kiss at a time, advancing his gentle but relentless pursuit of Ryo's heart until Ryo had given into his forbidden desires and acquiesced to the sweet temptation that Dee's love had offered. Ryo had faced up to everything that he was and had attained a slice of heaven wrapped snugly within Dee's loving arms. Reflecting on the past two years of Dee's unhurried but persistent seduction of him, Ryo now knew that he had to win Dee back. Dee was just too good to let go. Ryo could not lose the best thing that had ever happened to him now. His broken heart would not be able to take much more. Yes, he knew that he had the choice to just walk away from everything he had with Dee, but Dee was everything that he had always wanted. He could not abandon the one person, the other half of his soul, who had captured his heart as well.

Ryo sat up with a firm resolve and a renewed sense of hope reflected in his midnight eyes as a growing realization dawned on him... That was it! He knew how to win back the love of his life. He would have to show Dee just how much he loved him through his actions. It was only natural that sometimes one would need reassurance that the one you loved with your entire being was equally desirous of you. `Someone who's unloved can never be happy... I just can't keep chasing after something I'll never get...' Hadn't Dee said these things to Ryo after Ryo had either slightly shied away from his advances or responded to Dee with only a worried look gracing his handsome face when Dee had wanted to know how Ryo felt about him?

Of course, Ryo could not expect that Dee would want to sleep with him yet, not when it would just be having sex and not making love, and he would not want Dee to take him in his current mindset either, although Ryo loved to be utterly ravished by his ebony-haired lover. But he could sense that Dee was already attracted to him, drawn with a powerful magnetism that exuded so much more than just a passing whim to belong to another, and he was determined to take advantage of this opportunity to the fullest. Ryo would show Dee how much he loved him with everything he had, everything that he was, through his passionate kisses that revealed his unspoken desires.

With a smile, Ryo turned out the bedside light and hugged the picture close to his chest and over his heart, falling into a dream-filled sleep with wonderful images of him and Dee sharing the most intimate expression of love to one another in the most erotic of ways. This time, he fell asleep with Dee in his arms. It was the first night since he had been home that he had forgotten to take one of the pills on his bedside table to help him sleep. Things were definitely looking up. Ryo had convinced himself that he was going to try to win Dee back with his whole heart, his entire being - everything he had and everything he was. There was no turning back now. Nothing could take away his resilient determination. A life without Dee was no life at all. Now only one question remained - could he succeed in convincing Dee that they belonged together?
