Chapter 5
Dee leapt up the steps, taking them two at a time, and flung himself through the door of the station. He hit the floor running, throwing a wave to the desk sergeant who had the presence of mind to buzz the door open so Dee could just continue directly in. He probably had visions of trying to clean up the bloody smear that Dee would no doubt leave on the glass if he didn't! Dee's shoes slid a little on the shiny floor as he tried to navigate the corner, but he managed to retain his balance.
He glanced at his watch - yay! Only a couple of minutes late! He had made it! He slowed his pace, straightened his tie, and ran a hand through his hair to smooth it down from his mad flight.
“Hey, Dee!” a voice hailed him from behind as he walked down the corridor. He turned around to see Drake and Ted approaching.
“Hi, guys!”
“What the hell are you doing here?” Ted asked. “Where's the fire?” he turned his head from side to side, peering around as though expecting to see some disaster.
“What are you talking about?” Dee wanted to know, frowning.
Drake propped his back against the wall. “Well, you're on time for once. What's the occasion?”
“No occasion. I'm on time. Sometimes.” Dee said a little lamely.
Drake raised his eyebrows. “The last time you were here on time was about, oh….” Drake looked skywards as he was thinking.
“We've got it marked on the calendar,” Ted said helpfully. “We made it a national holiday for the precinct.”
“Oh, yeah. It was so god-damn surprising back then we had to celebrate the event. That was years ago.”
“Oh, really,” Dee growled at them.
“Yep!” Ted continued, still with a dead pan expression and serious sounding voice. “So, I guess this one calls for a special holiday as well.”
“That it does. It's unlikely it's going to happen again for a looong time!” Drake confirmed, just as serious sounding.
“If you two comedians are quite finished?” Dee said, turning away from them in a huff. “Some of us have work to do. Jerks!” he muttered the last under his breath.
A chorus of laughter broke out behind him and the sound of footsteps followed, coming up on either side of him.
“Ah, come on, Dee! It's not like you usually are on time, unless there is a specific reason for you to be here. You can't try and make out that this is normal.”
“Okay, okay. So I'm not the most punctual person. But I still do my job!”
Drake held a hand up. “We're not saying you don't, you know that.”
“So why are you here on time?” Ted asked.
“Just thought I would surprise the Badger,” Dee said with a smirk.
A hard smack over the back of his head doubled him over. “Owwww!” he howled, grabbing his bruised skull.
Looking behind he saw the Chief standing there, glaring at all three of them, although Drake and Ted had managed to evade his wrath this time.
“Well, you're right for once in your miserable sorry excuse of a life, Laytner! I am surprised! In fact, I'm fucking delirious about this event! And since you've shown that you've turned over a new leaf, I expect to see you on time, if not early, for every shift here on in! Or I'm docking your bloody pay! Got that!!”
With another glare all round, the Chief stormed back into this office, the door quivering on its hinges from the force of the slam.
“God damn it!” Dee complained, straightening up and turning to walk away. “That man has got to have the ears of a bat!”
“I HEARD THAT, LAYTNER!”
The roar reached them through the walls and echoed down the corridor. The three of them cast a scared look behind and hurried their steps to put some distance between themselves and the Chief's office.
“Geesh!” Dee said. “Why does everyone have to make such a big deal about me being here?”
“I guess it's just sort of out of character for you, Dee.” Drake said, shrugging slightly.
“Perhaps Ryo's conscientiousness is finally beginning to rub off on him.” Ted put in.
Rub off on him, was it? Dee thought. Ryo rubbing his hot bare skin against Dee's. Rubbing his hands over Dee's body; exploring, searching, teasing, before bringing him to a mind blowing climax, all the more intense for the anticipation and waiting.
Dee had to admit that as much as it had driven him nearly insane at how slow Ryo had taken it, he had never had an orgasm like that before. His whole body had been a quivering mess under Ryo's tentative, gentle touches, his fingertips sometimes doing no more than ghost over Dee's skin, barely brushing the hair on his body, sending sparks flashing through his nerves.
“Hey, Dee, you all right?” Drake's voice suddenly cut through Dee's thoughts, bringing him back to reality.
“Huh?” he mumbled. Had he missed something?
“Are you alright, buddy? You seemed to zone out there for a minute.”
Only a minute? It had seemed a lot longer to Dee. A delightfully long moment of memory.
He waved Drake's concern aside. “I'm fine.”
“He was probably just thinking of how he was going to embarrass Ryo today. I swear that sometimes I think that's your only calling in life now.” Ted said.
“Hey, I resent that accusation! I don't embarrass Ryo.”
“Oh, yeah? You've been chasing him for how long? Can't you take a hint?”
“Ryo and I ..” he had to stop. He couldn't say what he wanted to. He couldn't tell them that Ryo and he were lovers. He had promised. “Work well together. He knows what I'm like, and it hasn't bothered him all this time.”
“Yeah, but that's because that guy's an absolute saint! He would have to be to put up with you all this time! He's almost too bloody good to be true.”
Never a truer word had been spoken, Dee thought, picturing Ryo's angelic face in his mind, calm, composed, gentle. Then the image changed. Ryo's face covered in sweat, hair clinging to his face, spread across the pillow, eyes closed in pleasure, mouth open, moaning…..
Dee swallowed hard. He had to stop it! He hadn't even reached his desk and he already couldn't stop thinking about Ryo!
“DEEEE!!!”
The scream reverberated though the precinct, loud enough to rattle windows. Before Dee could do anything more than take a panicky breath and mentally brace himself, something collided violently with him, forcing him sideways into the wall with a bone jarring impact. Drake and Ted had adroitly sidestepped out of the way to avoid becoming part of the body sandwich.
Damn it! Dee groaned, completely winded. Why had he let his guard down?! He glanced down at the carrot topped man plastered against his body.
“JJ!!” he yelled down at him, placing both hands on thin shoulders and trying to pry him away. “What the hell do you think you are doing?! How many times have I told you to fucking stop doing this to me!!”
“Aw, Dee!!” JJ said, peering up at him adoringly. “How can I stop? I'm so happy to see you!”
Dee continued with his struggles, ignoring the snickers not just from Drake and Ted still standing there, but also from the other people up and down the corridor who had put their heads out to view the latest ambush by JJ.
Dee sighed. He swore that he and JJ were the entire precinct's only entertainment each day. He knew there was a betting book somewhere on how many times JJ managed to tackle Dee each day. He wondered if there was also one about he and Ryo? Perhaps he should ask around.
“Come on, JJ! Get the hell off me!”
For a small man, JJ was surprisingly strong. Not that Dee was really surprised. For all that JJ acted sometimes really camp and ditzy, there was actually nothing stupid about his skill and dedication as a police officer. He was the best sniper in the precinct and had nerves like ice when he had to be. People very easily underestimated JJ.
Finally he managed to lever JJ far enough away to slip under the other man's arms, so JJ's embrace ceased to be wrapped around Dee and he fell towards the wall. Dee slipped quickly behind Drake and Ted, using them as a human shield.
“Go away, JJ. I've got work to do. And so do you!”
JJ pouted at him, but then summed up the effort of trying to push Drake and Ted aside to get to Dee and decided it wasn't worth the trouble at the moment. After all, the day had just begun, there would be other opportunities!
“Okay, then. See you later, Dee!” and he bounced away down the hall.
Dee let out a deep sigh of relief. “Now that, boys,” he said to Drake and Ted. “Is someone who doesn't take the hint!”
“Yeah, I guess you're right in that.” Ted said with a smile.
The three of them turned to resume their passage down the hall, Dee being very careful to remain slightly in front of Drake and Ted so they could act as a buffer if JJ decided to try something again.
“So, what have you and Ryo got at the moment? Anything interesting?”
“Nah, not really. Just some standard things. Mostly we've got to finish up all the god damn paperwork from the last case. I hate reports!”
“What are you complaining about? You make Ryo do it all anyway!”
“Hey, I don't do that!” Then under Drake's withering stare, he mumbled, “Well, not all the time.”
“Yeah, right. Like I said, Ryo's a saint to put up with you. Or else he's just plain stupid!”
“Either way, he deserves a medal.” Ted added.
“You know what, guys? With friends like you, why don't I just slit my throat now!”
They both smirked at him as he paused outside his office.
“Don't distract Ryo too much, Dee, or you're gonna have to do all the reports yourself!”
“No naughty, naughty!”
“Ah, get lost!” Dee waved them away, turning and opening the door.
There was Ryo, sitting at his desk, twirling a pencil, looking like he was deep in thought. Dee just stood at the door for a moment. Ryo obviously hadn't heard him yet.
Gods, he was just so beautiful, Dee thought, drinking in the sight of his partner. Those intense dark eyes, they saw right to the very bottom of his soul. He hadn't realized just how much darker Ryo's eyes could get, but when he was filled with passion, Ryo's eyes shone like orbs of black crystal. Deep, dark, changing, and completely bottomless. Dee just loved to see that change in Ryo's eyes. To know that he was responsible for it.
He couldn't control the quiver that ran down his spine at these thoughts, watching those long fingers deftly twirl the pencil, around and around. Those fingers….long and tapered, gentle and soft, yet strong and firm. All those sensations, every one Dee had felt and experienced. Especially when Ryo's hands wrapped around his erection, stroking him, pleasuring him, raising him higher and higher. Ryo held so much power over Dee, capturing his body, as much as his mind and soul.
He could tell that Ryo was thinking about something other than work. He never had such an intense look on his face just for work. Not that Ryo didn't take his work seriously, he did, usually more than Dee did sometimes. But this look was reserved for when Ryo was thinking about something more…personal.
Hope he's not obsessing about us again, Dee thought, watching him silently. He shook his head, a smile tugging at his lips. Even this part of Ryo he couldn't help but love. He pushed the door open wider, stepping forward.
“What's the matter?” he said.
Ryo turned his head to look at him. Dee watched as a truly pleased smile lit his face, a smile full of warmth. Just for Dee.
“Not a thing, partner.” Ryo said, and Dee's heart sang.
