i threw my head back and stared at the night sky. after that, i turned and ran "josh!!" "josh-san" they called as i ran down the steps to the dodge and got in, driving away into the night. i drove for half an hour, not caring where i was going before i noticed i was heading towards the cliffside lookout where i kissed a woman for the first time in my whole life; so i pulled into the lookout and stopped the car, before i climbed out and sat on the bonnet, looking out over the city of makuhari thinking to myself before the full gravity of the situation hit me. my best friend had died like my previous friend michael. i crawled into a ball on the bonnet and cried "oh god someone please help me." i felt a hand on my shoulder and a soft voice say "don't worry josh, you'll never be alone again" i looked up to see urd, she was full size and her angel, world of elegance was present as well, smiling sweetly as a comforting gesture "we'll always be here for you, even if you feel that you're alone" said a voice which i immedately recognised as Belldandy's, so i sat up and saw that she was present as well as skuld and their angels noble scarlet and holy bell, they were showing the same concern as their masters "why're you guys here?" "because we love and care about you josh. no-one has ever done or risked more for us than you. period. even keiichi's risked a lot for us but your risks out weigh his. you've even died three times to save us" i decided to show them, so trial of the forsaken appeared from my back. they all gasped in horror as they saw my psychological wounds manifest on him "you see, these are the wounds i have to live with every goddamn day. every man i've killed in the past is forever notched as a knife wound in my heart. i've had to stare into their eyes and watch them die. i can't live with that kind of pain on my heart, can any of you honestly say you can?" they lowered their heads and i said "y'see, i'll always be haunted by my past, forever bound to the demons of my past" urd then grabbed me by my collar and said roughly "listen josh, i'm really starting to get sick of you feeling sorry for yourself. so grow up and realise that you have a chance to make something of yourself, to do something about the demons and as long as you're willing to, we will do every thing we can to help you but it's up to you as to wether you want to die a weakling or become a proper father for our children" she released me and i fell to the ground, with tears forming in my eyes "you see, everyone eventually turns against me even if i try to do otherwise" urd's face softened as she knelt down in front of me and said "josh listen, you've got friends now, friends who will never abandon you or turn against you or abuse you like others have in the past" i stared at her and she said "yes, i know all about your past because i've been watching you since you were born. the only reason why i didn't act when you were abused was because kami-sama had said that it wasn't time yet" she began to cry as she said "i was horrified at the fact they could do those sorts of things to you. now that i can, i will help you to move on. as we keep saying josh, don't you ever feel like we've given up on you, don't you ever dare" she smiled and said "besides, the kids wouldn't like it if they found out their dad killed himself now would they?" i smiled half-arsed and said "yeah, i guess you might be right" i got to my feet and looked out over the city "it really looks beautiful from here" it was then that the dodge exploded, throwing me into the fence.
i felt something leaking from my nose so i wiped it, and noticed i was bleeding from the nose and i heard a ringing in my ears. i looked over and saw urd, belldandy and skuld, they were lying unconcious on the ground, so i climbed to my feet and saw the burning wreck of my dodge. i swore under my breath that the fucker who did this would pay as the ringing in my ears began to fade and all i could here was silence as i limped over to the others, holding my chest "hey!" i could feintly hear myself say "wake up you three" i said, just barely hearing myself. it was then that the silence faded and i could hear the crackle of the fire and hear their breathing. a pistol materialised in my hand as i felt the approach of what could only be felt as a demon, so i turned and fired as i saw the demon "MARA!!!!" i shouted as the bitch kicked me, sending me into the hillside. the last thing i saw before passing out was mara give me the stink eye and saying "haha shadow god, you never could defeat me" as she flew away into the night.
