Chapter Four: A Heartfelt Forest Meeting

Jenna ran as fast as her feet could take her. She ran into a few things, when she tripped over a rock, scraping her knee. She winced in pain, and then started to cry. The scrape didn't hurt, but what she had just seen did. 'I can't believe he did that!' She sat there crying, when something small and black fluttered to her shoulder. "What the...?"

Aya sat there, looking at Jenna with her big, beady (and adorably cute!) eyes. It was almost as if she was asking what was wrong.

Jenna sighed and wiped away her tears. She then looked to Aya curiously. "Aya... what are you doing out here all alone?"

Aya shook her head. That wasn't important now. Aya flew behind a large rock and came back out, a folded pice of parchment in her mouth. She flew back over to Jenna and dropped the parchment in her lap.

Jenna picked it up and unfolded it. She read what it said aloud:

"Never knew,

I could feel like this.

Like I've never seen the sky-

Before.

Want to vanish,

Inside your kiss.

Every day I Love You more and more.

Listen to my heart,

Can you hear it sing?

Telling me to give you everything!

Seasons may change,

Winter to spring,

But I Love You,

Until the end of time.

Come what may,

Come what may,

I will love you,

Until my dying day!

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place,

Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace,

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,

It all revolves-

Around you.

And there's no mountain too high,

No river too wide,

Sing out this song,

And I'll be there by your side!

Storm clouds may gather,

And stars may collide,

But I Love You,

Until the end of time.

Come what may,

Come what may,

I will love you,

Until my dying day.

Oh, come what may,

Come what may,

I will love you...

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place.

Come what may,

Come what may,

I will love you,

Until my dying day!"

Jenna looked to Aya. "Aya... who wrote this...?"

Before Aya could squeak anything, a male voice rang throughout the forest, singing:

"Never knew,

I could feel like this.

Like I've never seen the sky-

Before..."

Jenna heard the beautiful voice and her curiousity got the better of her. She followed the sound and was incredibly surprised at what she saw.

Cornel was sitting on a large rock in a clearing, little animals crowded around him.

"...Listen to my heart,

Can you hear it sing?

Telling me to give you everything!

Seasons may change,

Winter to spring,

But I Love You,

Until the end of time.

I wrote that for her. She's beautiful, kind, sweet... Perfect, in every way... but now I think she hates me..." He stuck his head between his knees and sighed in despair.

"I... I don't hate you..." Jenna whispered to him.

His head popped up at the sound of her voice. He leapt up and started to walk toward her. "Jenna... Jenna, please...!"

Still afraid of what he had done earlier, she turned and walked away quickly. "No... No, please, don't hurt me...!"

He stood there in shock. 'She's afraid of me...' "Jenna... I could never hurt you..."

"Go away!" The tears were streaming down her face as she hid behind a tree.

He sang out to her, begging for her to return:

"Listen to my heart,

Can you hear it sing?

Come back to me...

And FORGIVE EVERYTHING!

Seasons may change,

Winter to spring,

But I Love You,

Until the end of time..."

She stayed behind the tree. She wasn't going to come back to him. She was still too afraid.

Tears streamed down Cornel's face. He dropped to his knees and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a sterling silver dagger. He held it out in front of him with one hand. He aimed it straight for his heart and turned his head away, his eyes closed tightly, waiting for the pain.

Jenna looked out from behind the tree and saw what he was doing. She may have been afraid, but she would never want him to die. She did still love him, after all. This time, she sang.

"Listen to my heart,

Can you hear it sing?

Come back to me,

And forgive everything!

Seasons may change,

Winter to spring,

But I Love You,

Until the end of time."

He opened his eyes, his vision blurred through the tears. Was his hearing off, or was she singing to him...?

She repeated it once more, coming out from behind the tree. She saw him sitting there and ran to him, hitting the dagger out of his hands. They embraced eachother tightly, both crying onto the others shoulder.

"Oh Jenna... I'm so sorry! I don't know why I did that, but I- I just- I couldn't stand to see him even lay a finger on you...!" He sobbed into her shoulder, barely believing that she was back in his arms, but so grateful to the heavens above that that was where she was.

"Cornel... never let me go again..."

"B-but I... was thinking... and... maybe you should have stayed with Piers..."

"Why are you saying that...?"

"Because I never want to take any chance in hurting you... or our baby..."

"You won't Cornel... I know you won't."

"But I could..."

"If you leave me again, then I'll... I'll... I'll kill myself!"

He kissed her lovingly & protectively. "Don't you dare even think about that, Jenna..."

"Then stay with me."

He ran his fingers through her long, silken, purple hair. "I promise... I'll always be with you."

She curled up next to his chest and fell asleep in his arms. All that had happened today had worn her out. Not to mention the fact that all she had eaten today was the roast chicken she had had in the morning.

Cornel lifted her up bridal style and carried her back to the inn. He searched her person and found the key, slipping it in the lock and entering the room. He layed her gently down on the bed and took off her boots. He then removed his shirt and shoes and climbed into the bed beside her. He wrapped his arms around her and fell fast asleep. He wasn't in a contented sleep as he had been the night before, but knowing she was there beside him gave him satisfaction enough.
