Chapter Three
Hunt for the Huntress

When her eyes finally opened, Dagger automaticly wished that she would lose
consciousness again. The pain in her shoulder made her cringe when she moved it ever so
slightly. Kavin came out of the brush, a young doe clenched in his mouth. Dagger reached
into the pouch at her hip, pulled out a piece of flint and a piece iron. She crawled to the
pile of wood not far off, struck the flint and iron, and watch the flames dance slowly into
life.

Kavin lay the doe down in front of his mistress. Dagger pulled a knife from her belt
and began to skin the fine creature. She tore chunks of away from the bone and set them down
on the hide. It was not that big of a deal if she wasted the hide. Something would eat it
and whatever other parts she didn't use.

"How long have I been out?" she asked.

"Three days." Kavin repiled.

Dagger sighed in exasperation.

"The prince has sent men to every town to look for you." Kavin said, snatching up
a scrap of fat.

Dagger scoffed. "How stupid can he be?" she asked her comrade. "We never stay in
towns unless we really have to."

"He'd actually thought of that." a voice said from behind her. "That's why he sent
me."

Dagger held her knife at the ready and Kavin leapt in front of his wounded
mistress to protect her. The great white tiger roared angrily, baring his glistening white
fangs at the man now standing before them. His long black hair hung loosely around his face
and his vivid blue eyes glowed with intellegence. He wore dark clothing and boots, stained
from days of hard travel in harsh weather conditions.

"So you're the one that all the fuss at the palace is over?" he asked, smirking.
"Ha! You're barely out of girlhood."

Dagger glared at the man. "Go to hell." she growled. "Either try to take me hostage
or kill me. Pick one!"

The man laughed. "I don't want to kill you...yet." he said. "I think I'll let you
go for now."

"Hee." she laughed. "How mighty nice of you."

The man only chuckled and then disappeared into the forest. Dagger fell back onto
her back, growling in anger. If one man found her already then there was no telling when
someone else would find her again. Kavin came to stand next to her, his large tongue leaving
a trail of saliva where he'd licked her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The sound of a stick breaking brought her fully awake some hours later. From the
forest came the man who had snuck up on them earlier that day. Dagger was too tired and weak
to move. He knelt down beside her and pushed a cup of liquid to her mouth. It was bitter,
but she forced it down anyway. Kavin was somewhere in the background, growling angrily.

"Calm down, cat!" the man ordered. "You mistress is poisoned. I'm only helping her."

Kavin scoffed. "Yeah, I'll bet you are." he said.

To the man it only sounded like a mix of growls and roars. Dagger coughed and gagged
over the bitterness of the green liquid he had given her to drink. He lay her back down on
the ground and sat down beside her. For a moment, Dagger was tense. Why was this man helping
her out?

"You'll live now." the man said.

"Why are you helping me?" she asked.

The man smiled slightly. "I need you to live and help me save the prince." he said.

"What?!" Dagger demanded, sitting up suddenly and crying out at the sudden pain.

"He's been wounded and ordered that we bring you to him immediately." he said.

Dagger laid back down, chuckling slightly. "Who wounded him now?" she asked.

"Seems that his father isn't the only one who wanted him dead." the man said. "You
aren't the only one who is skilled in picking off Royality."

Dagger shook her head. This was crazy. Three nights before the man wanted her dead.
Now he wanted her to hunt down another assassin for him? She wished that those blue bloods
would make up their fucking minds when they decided who they wanted dead and who they wanted
to live.

"I'll go in a few days." she said. "That little bastard needs to sweat it out a
little longer."

The man laughed. "Spoken like a true Child of the Night." he said.
