Camp! Camp! Camp all around!
"Are we there yet?" Hiryu asked.
"No," Renita said. A few minutes later he asked the same question again. This time Teian answered.
"No," he said. A few minutes later Hiryu asked the question again.
"NO! HIRYU! We will tell you when we get there!" Renita and Teian said in unison. Jya was on Renita's back; he couldn't walk for more than a mile at a time.
A few hours later the group reached a small clearing.
"WE'RE HERE!" Hiryu cried. He ran around the clearing. Renita sighed exasperatedly.
"We're not there yet," she sighed.
"Then lets go!" Hiryu said. He started marching off into the woods.
"How does he have so much energy?" Teian asked.
"'Cause he my bwother!" Jya said.
"Hiryu, we're here," Teian said. He set Jya down. The four had come to a fairly large clearing. The ground was covered with lush green grass and there was a pond near the edge of the clearing.
"Tent!" Hiryu said a few seconds later.
"He never stops," Renita muttered.
"Tent, tent, tent," Hiryu chirped. He began rummaging through their supplies and brought of several wooden poles and other materials.
"Hiryu, be careful, you may rip the tents," Teian said. He walked over to Hiryu, Jya at his heels and began explaining what to do. After a few hours their campsite was up and running. There were two tents, three buckets of water, and wood for a fire. Hiryu started to say something, but stopped.
"What, do we do now?" he asked.
'Yes!' Teian and Renita thought simultaneously, 'He can't be hyper anymore!'
"EXPLORE!" he yelled, annihilating the peaceful silence that had fallen over the campsite. Small animals could be heard scurrying away and there was a soft rustling of newly fallen leaves on the autumn ground.
"What was that?" Renita asked, shaken.
"I'm gonna' go expwore," Hiryu said in a firm tone.
"Er, okay, just don't go too far," Renita said.
'Go ahead and get lost for awhile,' she said silently.
'That's so cruel,' Teian thought to her.
'How can you hear what I'm thinking?' Renita asked.
'Don't know, don't care, but Hiryu's gone,' Teian thought spoke to her.
"Explore, explore, so, so fun! I don't know if I'll ever be done! I just like to run around, and look in logs, maybe I'll find a bear or two, then I can fight, and have some fun," Hiryu sang as he skipped through the woods. He had his small staff with him for protection and twirled it around. He continued walking and gathering plants and rocks, completely losing track of time and where he was.
"Huh? Where am I?" Hiryu asked a few hours later. He saw no sign of civilization in site. He was completely surrounded by dark trees. Each one looming above him, as though it were reaching it out to rip the flesh from his small, muscular body.
"Do you know where I am?" Hiryu asked a tree. The tree said nothing, so Hiryu walked along, asking every tree he came by the same question.
Finally, a tree answered him.
"You're in a forest you idiot child," the voice said roughly.
"Why are you so mean?" Hiryu asked curiously.
"Because I am," the tree said.
"That's not a good reason!" Hiryu said, stomping his foot.
"Um, as a child," the tree started explaining. Twenty minutes later the soft snoring of a child could be heard.
"WAKE UP!" the tree screamed.
"Hmm?" Hiryu asked groggily. He stood up and turned to the tree.
"Where can I get help?" he asked.
"Walk about a mile to the north," the tree said. Hiryu thanked the tree and began skipping along to the north.
After twenty or so minutes of walking Hiryu came to a beautiful clearing. He could feel a strong magical presence not far away. It was soft and pure. He walked into the clearing and sat down on a log. After a few minutes of sitting there, waiting for something to happen, he heard the gentle footsteps of someone. The person seemed to be running. Hiryu stood up and looked to an unusually clear stream. He waited anxiously until a small girl appeared. She was holding a wooden bucket.
She walked to the river and knelt down, unaware of Hiryu's presence.
"HI!" Hiryu yelled to the girl. The girl jumped and looked around. Her eyes met his and she stepped over the river into the clearing.
"Who are you?" she asked. She had a sweet, innocent voice.
"Hiryu," Hiryu said, "Who are you?"
"Mishi," the girl said. The two-walked closer to each other and both extended their hands at the same time. Their flesh touched and a special bond was immediately formed between the two. A gold light shone between their fingers and moved out to the surround them in a field of blinding energy.
"What happened?" Hiryu asked.
"I don't know," Mishi whispered. Their minds were suddenly filled with information about the other.
"So you want to find your parents?" Mishi asked. Hiryu nodded his head.
"I can help, but first you have to come to my village," Mishi said. Hiryu cheered and jumped into the air. The two turned towards where Mishi had appeared, but were stopped by a bone-chilling growl. The growl seemed to be a creature in itself; it was so cold and piercing that the two stopped dead in their tracks.
"What was that?" Hiryu asked nervously.
"I don't know, but it didn't sound very nice," Mishi said quietly. She looked around the clearing, seeing nothing.
She spoke, "Let's get back to my village." Hiryu agreed and the two started towards the path to her village. In a flash of black and gray fur a monstrous creature blocked their path.
It stood at a height of at least eight feet. It's fur was disheveled and covered it's entire body. Two red ovals could be seen from under the fur on the face and the creature snapped its long jaw a few times, revealing rows of needle-sharp teeth.
"This can't be good," Hiryu said.
"Duh, oh great stator of the obvious," Mishi said under breath.
"What should we do?" Hiryu asked. Mishi took a deep breath. She stepped into a fighting stance, but suddenly turned and ran.
"RUN!" she screamed.
Hiryu stood in place for a moment before he turned around and followed Mishi. The two children entered the clearing and reached the middle of it. The beast suddenly appeared in front of them. It moved with such fluidity and swiftness that it seemed like it hadn't moved at all. It raised it's clawed arm as quickly as it had moved and began to bring it down on Hiryu and Mishi.
"Michi Sasaeru! SHIELD!" Mishi chirped. She put her hands out in front of her and a thin green barrier appeared in front of her and Hiryu. At the same time Mishi had created the S. Shield, Hiryu had created a Flame Barrier. The strength of the two barriers barely stopped the monster's attack. Hiryu flipped back and Mishi stepped to the side.
"Me rasuta wei, que muay chio! WATER SPOUT!" Mishi yelled. She held one of her arms out and a small blast of water appeared and shot off towards the monster. The monster sidestepped and the attack missed, but he stepped right into Hiryu's foot.
"LEAVE US ALONE!" he cried. His was foot was pressed into the monster's head. 'How'd he jump so high?' Mishi wondered. Hiryu kicked with his other foot, smacking the monster on the other side of the head. He continued up a furious assault of kicks until he fell to the ground. He was breathing heavily and was about to retreat when he felt a searing pain rip across his body. The kicks had had little effect, if any, and the monster swiped at him, cutting across his entire body. Hiryu cried out in pain as the monster slammed him into the ground. Mishi looked from her spot in horror.
'What can I do? What can I do?' she asked herself, becoming more desperate as she watched Hiryu struggle to stand up.
"I'll try that one spell," she said determinedly.
"MEANY!" she yelled, addressing the monster. She stepped forward and raised her arms above her head. The monster turned from massacring Hiryu and looked at Mishi curiously.
"Wei gatta rasuta yaikin, mai vri muay ima! Beitchi mai du byi! TIDAL WAVE!" she yelled. A soft breeze began blowing through the clearing, creating a whistling sound. The wind seemed to swirl around Mishi, causing her golden locks to cover her like a sheet. A small blue ball started forming in her hands and continued growing until a gigantic orb of water surrounded her. The orb broke apart and formed a giant wave behind her.
The monster saw this and started to run towards Mishi, but found itself unable to move. It looked down and saw Hiryu; he had sunk his teeth into the monster's leg. The monster sneered and reached down for him, but it heard a loud rumbling sound and turned back towards Mishi. The wave had begun to crash down towards the monster and Hiryu. Mishi was unaffected by the water, it didn't even seem to touch her. The monster growled at Mishi as the water crashed down upon it.
"See what wishing bad things get you?" Teian said.
"Shut up! Hiryu didn't get lost because I thought that!" Renita said in an annoyed tone.
"Did to," Teian said.
"Did not," Renita said.
"Did to."
"Did not."
"SHUT UP!" Jya yelled. Renita and Teian turned to face Jya surprised expressions on their faces.
"Welling at each other won't help Hiryu! For all we know he may have gotten lost, talked to a tree, met an elf girl, and fought a vicious monster," Jya said. Teian raised an eyebrow.
"Sure Jya, what an imagination you have," he said.
Hiryu groaned. He slowly opened his eyes and look around. His head hurt along with other parts of his body.
"Where am I?" he asked in a squeaky voice.
"Hiryu? You're up!" someone squealed. Hiryu turned his head and saw Mishi sitting on a stool. He felt that he was lying down.
"Where am I?" he repeated the question.
"My house, in Sho-Yosei Village," Mishi said. She leaned over Hiryu and hugged him.
"I'm so glad your okay!" she cried out. Hiryu felt a soft tear fall to his cheek. The cut there instantly healed.
"Your tears," Hiryu whispered, "They're magical."
"I'm part elf," Mishi explained sitting up.
"Ewf?" Hiryu asked. Mishi giggled.
"What happened to the monster?" Hiryu asked.
"It was destroyed by the Tidal Wave spell," Mishi said, "It's a surprise you weren't killed. When my mom gets back she'll heal you, so stay in bed for now. Would you like some soup?" Mishi was talking so fast that Hiryu stared at her blankly for a moment before nodding his head. Mishi got up and walked away.
"This is so good!" Hiryu cried. He held a bowl of soup to his mouth, washing it down.
"My mom says you shouldn't eat so fast!" Mishi scolded him, but he took no notice and continued devouring the soup.
"Okay, eat that way if you want," Mishi said hesitantly.
"That was a powerful spell, how'd you wearn it?" Hiryu asked. He set his bowl down and turned towards Mishi.
"I found it in a spell book, I wasn't s'possed to look it at, but..." Mishi explained. The two looked at each other and smiled.
"I'm home!" Mishi's mom called. She walked into Mishi's room and found Hiryu in her bed.
"Who are you and what are you doing her?" she asked.
"Um, Mishi said that if you came back, to say that I'm her friend and I got hurt helping her bite, I mean fight a monster," Hiryu said, "And that your supposed to heal me." Mishi's mom raised and eyebrow and walked over to Hiryu. She put a hand on his forehead and whispered a few words. A yellow circle appeared on his forehead and a picture started forming, but it suddenly disappeared. Mishi's mom looked surprised.
"You have strong magical powers, don't you?" she asked.
"I don't know, but can you please heal me?" Hiryu said.
"Let me check one thing," Mishi's mom said. She placed a hand on Hiryu's forehead again and whispered something while slowly pulling her hand away. A bright gold flame surrounded Hiryu. Mishi's mom went wide-eyed and she stumbled backward.
"Oh my God," she whispered.
"What? Did I do something wrong?" Hiryu asked in a scared voice. He could see the gold flame flickering around him and sat as still as a statue.
"No, but your aura," Mishi's mom whispered. "Never mind," she said. She repeated the words and put her hand back on Hiryu's forehead. The flame disappeared.
"I'll heal you, where's Mishi?" her mom asked.
"Getting wa' wa'," Hiryu said. Mishi's mom nodded her head and placed her hands a few inches in front of Hiryu.
"Vigra er luna mi suptchi asu que mai muay writch! Lunar Heal," she said in a strong voice. A gray light emitted from hands and healed Hiryu. He jumped out of the bed and did a few stretches.
"Thank you!" he said.
"I'm home!" Mishi called. She walked into the room with two buckets of water.
"Let me hewp you," Hiryu offered. He walked over and took one of the buckets.
"Thanks," Mishi said. She led him to the kitchen where they poured the water into a large container.
"Mom," Mishi said as her mother entered the room.
"Yes?" her mom, asked.
"Can you take Hiryu back to his village?" Mishi asked. Hiryu made his face into an enormous smile.
"Of course I can, where does he live?" Mishi's mom asked.
"South Shining Wake," Hiryu said.
"That far?" Mishi's mom cried.
"Yeah, how far is it?" Hiryu asked.
"A good day or two from here," Mishi's mom said.
"But we only hiked for," Hiryu began counting on his fingers.
"How's many is this?" he asked.
"Five," Mishi's mom answered.
"No, that wasn't how long we hiked," Hiryu muttered. He continued holding up fingers until he found the right combination.
"Yeah! Six hours! We hiked six hours!" Hiryu said.
"How long have you been wandering around?" Mishi's mother asked.
"I don't know, I'm only six!" Hiryu said.
"Mishi, you need to stay here," Mishi's mom said the next day. Her and Hiryu were about to set off to S. Shining Lake.
"Don't forget your magic lessons," she reminded Mishi as they started off.
"Ok, but why can't I come? I want to see S. Shining Lake!" Mishi said.
"I told you no, your magic lessons are important!" Mishi's mom said.
"Hiryu, when you met Mishi, did anything weird happen?" Mishi's mom asked. They'd been hiking in silence for some time now.
"This gold thingy surrounded us," Hiryu said, "But you made a gold thingy surround me, so it must not be weird." Mishi's mom nearly dropped her water.
"A gold barrier surrounded you two?" she asked. Hiryu nodded his head and took a sip of water.
'That monster, it must have been a Trial Demon,' Mishi's mom said to herself in wonder, 'Those two are connected forever by a Suki Bond.'
