This is pitiful! I finally get Hikari onto IM and she's reading while I'm typing! Sheesh!

Alright…here we go…

Amy woke with a start, flinging the sheets off of her so she could stand up, but she sat up too quickly and had to lie back down for a moment to relieve the dizziness. `What happened? I remember arguing about…something with Mitsukai…..then I just blacked out…..I think…'

She walked to the door, freezing in her tracks when she heard voices in the hallway beyond. She leaned against the door and listened.

"…here! It's too dangerous," she heard Mitsukai yell under his breath.

"But, my lord, you are the best protector anyone could wish for," Kage's voice came moment's later.

She heard a quick shuffling of feet and a rustle that could only be Mitsukai's feathers, followed by a whimper.

"This has happened twice in one week alone! I barely snapped out of it last time! Next time," he paused a moment. "Next time, I might kill her…."

Amy listened as his footsteps faded down the hallway. She heard Kage huff and walk the opposite direction. After she was sure they were gone, Amy sneaked quietly out of her room and down the hall, towards Mitsukai's room.

She lightly knocked, not expecting him to hear her. `Oh, well, guess I should just go on in,' she thought with a smirk.

When she was in, she looked around. Mitsukai wasn't anywhere in the main chamber of his bedroom, but she heard the water running in the bathroom to her right. The water turned off and she listened to the silence for a moment. `Next time, I might kill her…' His words echoed in her head. `He sounded so…hurt,' she thought. `Wait, if he was hurt like that, and didn't trust himself around me, then…'

She burst into the bathroom, watching as Mitsukai held his head just above the surface of a bathtub full of water, staring at it blankly.

"No," she yelled, grabbing his shoulders.

He jumped out of surprise, bashing his head against the faucet in the side of the tub. He sat on the floor, holding the back of his head, staring at the ground intently.

"I'm so sorry, Mitsukai," she squealed as she sat in front of him. "I didn't mean to!"

"What were you doing in here," he asked softly, not looking up at her.

"Well, uh, I heard you and Kage talking in the hallway and I thought that, uh, you were going to, uh," she trailed off, blushing furiously as she trained her eyes on the ground.

Mitsukai brought his hand out in front of him, studying the blood on the tips of his fingers.

"Damn it all," he muttered as he stood and walked to the sink, washing the blood of his hands. "Finish your sentence…"

Amy looked up at his, glaring at the bloody spot in his hair. `Maybe he deserved that…' "I'd rather not," she said. "Are you alright?"

She stood behind him on her tip-toes, trying to see the cut on his scalp, but he jerked away at her touch. She took another step toward him as he jerked away from her again.

"Would you just hold still," she yelled, grabbing his shoulders and forcing him to stand with his back to her. "I just want to see how bad it is…"

She began to comb through his hair with her fingers, being especially careful when she came near the gash.

"Does it hurt when I do this," she asked, placing the slightest of pressure on the sore spot. She heard him hiss as he sharply inhaled. "I'll take that as a yes…" She glared down at the ground and her aching feet, huffing irritably.

"What is it," he asked, looking over his shoulder at her.

"Do you think you could kneel or something? My feet are starting to hurt…"

He nodded, getting down on one knee.

Amy began combing through his hair again, this time after wetting her fingers to see the blood that came out.

"This is not necessary," he said suddenly. "It will be healed in a day's time."

"I just want to make sure it isn't going to get infected before then," she said absentmindedly as she continued to clean the blood from his hair with her wet fingers. "Is that alright with you?"

Mitsukai nodded, but did not say anything, seeming to be deep in thought.

They stayed silent for a few moments before Mitsukai spoke up again.

"How can you stand there and be so kind to me like this," he asked softly.

She let out a small laugh, quickening the speed at which she was combing through his hair. "Why wouldn't I help you?"

She gasped when he reached back and grabbed her wrist, keeping her from running her fingers through his hair again. He stood up, turning to face her, never letting go of her wrists.

Mitsukai lifted her wrists above her head, effortlessly raising her off of the ground to make her eyes meet his. "After what I did to you, how can you pretend that you are safe around me," he whispered softly into her ear.

"It wasn't your fault," she said glumly. "You didn't mean to hurt me; I know you didn't. You would never do something like that on purpose."

He pulled his head away from her ear to look at her face fully. "But it is what I am, and because of that, you are not safe here…"

As he lowered her back to the floor, she sank to her knees, watching as Mitsukai walked out of the bathroom. She listened for the small click of a door closing, but it never came. Instead, she heard the loud bang of the door leading to his library slamming, followed by the sound of footsteps going down the stairs.

She decided that it was best to leave him alone this time, so she scuttled out of his room as quickly as she could, cringing when she heard a giant crash from the basement library.
