"Get your asses down here," Mitsukai yelled angrily at the sky.
He stood in the middle of the archery field, his feet spread to shoulder width, glaring at the sky. Amy quietly watched from the doorway, trying to figure out what was going on.
After a moment, a giant bolt of lightening streaked across the sky, followed shortly by a heavy downfall of rain. Mitsukai stood there, unmoving. Amy took a step through the doorway, keeping under the awning over the porch.
Suddenly, a booming voice echoed through the field.
"Speak, Hotogoroshi," it called.
Mitsukai glared upward a little longer, but then answered. "I demand to be relieved of this position," he yelled at the black clouds above him. "I am no longer needed here! I demand that she be stationed elsewhere!"
The sky rumbled angrily for a few moments before a different voice spoke up.
"You are still needed there, Hotogoroshi," the voice echoed. "Until this is over, you shall remain stationed with this young woman."
He stood there staring blankly at the parting clouds. After the sun began to shine once more, he snorted in disgust and turned to go back inside, but stopped cold when he caught sight of Amy.
"Amy," he choked out.
She stared at him sadly for a moment before darting back inside. He thought to chase after her, but decided against it. He glared back at the heavens before sauntering glumly inside toward his room. Kage intercepted him in the living room, though.
"Who would you have her reassigned to," she asked in an accusing whisper.
Mitsukai glared coldly at her, pressing his will down on her mind to try and make her go away, but to no avail. He slouched slightly in defeat a few moments later.
He sighed before answering, "it is no concern of mine where she is sent, but only that she is removed from this household."
Kage stared at him for a moment as if judging her options on what to tell him. "That is quite an odd decision for the woman-child that withholds that bracelet."
His eyes widened a moment before he looked away and walked past her toward the hall. She followed his movements, watching as he stopped at the opening to the hallway. He turned his head slightly as if to watch her out of the corner of his eye, but trained his gaze on the ground.
"It may be in your best interest to disappear for awhile, Kage," he muttered barely above a whisper. "Things may be a bit - hectic soon."
She smirked and bowed as he turned back and headed down the hallway.
"As you wish, M'lord…"

`She kept it…? Why would she keep that bracelet…?'
Mitsukai paced about his study, his thoughts dwelling on Amy, locked up in her room. He had passed her door on the way down the hall toward his room and smelled her tears. At that time, he felt a twang of pain run through his chest. He supposed it was guilt, but wasn't really sure.
Now, he was just pacing about his study, thinking about Amy and what to do about his current situation. There was a sudden light tap on the door. He stopped abruptly, his eyes darting to the staircase. There was another knocking, a bit softer this time. Mitsukai took a giant leap, traveling from one end of the library to the base of the stairs. He cautiously climbed them until he reached the top, relaxing slightly when he realized who it was. He opened the door slowly.
"Oh," Amy exclaimed, taking a surprised step backward. "I'm sorry to bother you like this, but…"
He watched her skeptically, taking in her scent. She had obviously been crying for quite some time and who knows how long she had been standing outside the door before knocking?
She fixed her eyes on her feet, refusing to meet his piercing gaze.
"I'm bothering you, aren't I," she exclaimed suddenly, turning around to leave.
Mitsukai caught her wrist in his clawed hand before she could take another step, though. He gave a small tug on her to try and get her to come back, but was expecting her to resist. When she didn't, the extra force slung her into his chest, causing him to topple backward.
His back and one remaining wing hit the first steps with a nauseating thud accompanied by a small, muffled cracking noise. He grimaced as he jammed his claws into the walls on either side of him, tearing long, jagged holes and succeeding in slowing their fall.
There was a deafening silence while Mitsukai waited on baited breath for Amy to release her death-grip on his midriff. Her breathing slowed to a normal rate and they waited a moment longer before her heart stopped racing and started to resume its normal pace. She slowly opened her eyes, lifting her face from his tensed chest. She could tell by the strain on his face that he was having trouble keeping them where they were.
Slowly and steadily, Amy climbed from his chest, but the movement caused the unstable walls the break more. Mitsukai hands slipped from their hold and he went sliding down the stairs on his back, trying in vain to get another grip on the walls, his wing getting the worst of the abuse from the steps. Amy was in a sitting position when they started their descent, and let out a frightened cry when they began moving again. The stairs eventually ended, causing Mitsukai to slide halfway across the library with Amy crouched on his stomach, gripping his shoulders for dear life.
Mitsukai's strained breath broke through Amy's stupor.
"I'm so sorry," she cried pathetically, getting to her feet. "I shouldn't have bothered you in the first place and this never would've happened. Now you're hurt again, and it's my entire fault. I'm so -"
"Quiet," he told her sternly. "You need to cease your apologies. It wasn't your fault. The fault was my own." When she opened her mouth to interrupt, he continued, standing up and placing his hands on her shoulders. "Just…just tell me what it is you needed."
She blushed slightly, feeling relieved that he wasn't mad at her. "I was thinking," she started softly; "I realized that I haven't been to school in ages."
Mitsukai looked dumbstruck. "That's all you wanted…?"
Amy's eyes quickly moved from the spot on his chest she had fixed her eyes on to his face.
"Please, don't be angry with me," she cried, taking a step toward him. "I know it doesn't matter to you, but I need to go back there!"
"Don't care…? What makes you think that?"
"Well…what you said…earlier…it was like you didn't want me here anymore," she muttered glumly.
"Hn…"
Mitsukai released her shoulders and turned, walking toward the desks in the rear of the room. "It was for your own safety," he told her quietly. "I am a danger to you just as much as the demons that attack us. You should be stationed elsewhere."
"But I love being around you," she blurted out. "I mean…I mean I really like it here…"
"That doesn't mean it's safe," he argued, turning to face her again. "Besides, I think you proved that you are quite capable of defending yourself."
"But I don't want to defend myself! I want you to defend me! I want you to be there in battle with me!"
"That bracelet," he muttered under his breath, but she heard anyway.
"What…what bracelet?"
Mitsukai closed his eyes as if concentrating on restoring a lost memory. "That bracelet with the dragon pendant…Kage informed me that you kept it."
"I-I'm sorry," she whispered, taking the bracelet from her wrist. "I just liked it so much, and I didn't realize I took it at first, but after I did, I just thought I might keep it……to remember you if you leave…"
"It's not mine…"
"What…?"
"The bracelet, it's not mine. It belonged to a young woman I knew once. I-I wasn't able to save her from the demons and as a dying wish she gave me the bracelet. She never elaborated on what I was to do with it, but I think I know what she meant," he told her with a glimmer in his eyes. "I'll tell you what. You keep that bracelet safe for me, and I'll let you stay here. Is it a deal?"
Amy's face lit up with joy almost instantaneously. "Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!"
Mitsukai looked at her questioningly.
"Oh," she said, calming down. "I mean, it's a deal."
She gave one last bright smile before putting the bracelet back on and dashing up the stairs, out of sight.
`Out of sight, out of mind,' Mitsukai thought as he picked up a book and began to read.
