>Knock!<
"Nn…"
>Knock! Knock!<
"Nn!"
>Knock! Knock! Knock!<
Amy sat up sleepily in her bed, glaring at the wall. `Who could that be at this time in the morning,' she thought grumpily as she climbed out of bed and looked at the clock. `Oh, 9:40 almost…' She shrugged and walked to the door, opening it and walking down the hallway and toward the entryway.
>Knock, knock! Knock, knock!<
"Hold yer horses," she yelled, entering the living room right next to the front door.
She opened the door, standing in the crack to block the interior from the stranger in front of her. There at the door stood a tall, lankly, young man with flaming red eyes and jet-black, wavy hair that was smoothed back against his head. He was at least six feet tall, but she couldn't really tell.
"Can I help you with something," she asked after snapping out of her stupor.
He cocked his head sideways a bit before quirking one elegant eyebrow and replying. "You could," he said in a deep voice, "the question is: will you?"
`Technicalities…' "What did you need," she asked, her patience fading quickly for the literalist.
"I don't need anything. I was simply here to see the one known as Hotogoroshi," he told her, peering over her head.
He nearly fell down when Mitsukai suddenly appeared right behind her. "Who is it," he asked, looking right past the stranger and draping one arm around Amy's waist.
"Ah, allow me to introduce myself," the man said, straightening his shirt. "My name is Senpai Houkounin, good sir."
Amy felt Mitsukai suddenly tense. "Get out," he hissed suddenly.
"What," Amy and Senpai asked in unison.
Mitsukai's head jerked up. "I said get out! Leave my home!"
`What's the matter, Hotogoroshi,' Ragnarok's voice echoed through the walls. `Afraid of what you can't see?'
He spun around, looking at the inside of the house, trying to pick out where the enemy was. He had no such luck.
"Mitsukai," Amy whispered, cautiously placing her hand on his forearm, "what does he mean?"
"Exactly as he said, M'lady," Senpai said from behind her as he stepped through the doorway and into the room, "Hotogoroshi fears what he is unable to see."
She glared at him for a moment before turning back to Mitsukai. "What does he mean, Mitsukai," she asked sternly.
`How long has it been now,' Ragnarok started up again, `400 years? Or was it more along the lines of 550?'
Mitsukai tensed further and began to growl deep within his chest.
"What are they talking about, Mitsukai," Amy asked again, more desperately this time, tugging lightly on his arm.
His growl intensified and she could tell he was fighting the urge to just shove her away from him. He glared a whole in the floor, grinding his teeth together. He stood as still as possible, slightly trembling from anger. Amy kept her bearings, though, and left her hand on his arm.
"Master Ragnarok never said that the house would be this extraordinary," Senpai said offhandedly, walking around the living room and peering down the hallway.
Amy spun around and stalked after him. She grabbed his shoulder and spun his to look at her. "What do you think you're doing," she yelled at him.
He glared at her hand a moment before giving her a kind smile and brushing her hand away. "I believe I am looking around the house," he replied matter-of-factly.
With that he walked down the hallway, looking through every door on his way. She let out a small growl from her throat and started to follow him, but stopped when Mitsukai put his hand in front of her, shaking his head no.
"Don't bother," he whispered, staring straight at the wall behind her.
She huffed irritably, but complied and fell into a chair. "Well," she said, glaring at the ceiling, "while we're waiting for Mr. `Privacy' to come back, why don't you tell me what they were talking about?"
Mitsukai's head hung lowly as he stared at the ground and sat down on the couch. His hands curled into fists, tilting his head back and sighing with a long suffering. Blood began to ooze from beneath his fingers, but he seemed not to notice. Amy gave the blood a worried glance, but nothing more. It was nothing compared to what she had seen him withstand.
"As he said, it was about 500 years ago, in the battle that we had. In a final attempt to claim victory over me, he lashed out with his sword," Mitsukai sighed again, but continued. "I managed to barely dodge it, but what I wasn't expecting was for him to use his sword as a conductor for his powers."
Mitsukai lowered his eyes to meet Amy's, taking off the sunglasses that he wore almost every moment of everyday. He traced a bloodied claw down the scar over his left eye. "Just like in the recent battle, I managed to scarcely dodge it, but was clipped by the attack. The sword caught me just above the eyebrow and dragged a small line over my eye, but the lightening conducted through the sword got me full force. The energy fried my sight. I can't see, but those who wish harm upon me or the ones I protect." He glared off in the direction of the hallway. "Senpai does not wish harm upon you or me, therefore, he is invisible to me. He is merely a spy for Ragnarok, not an assassin."
"Mitsukai," Amy whispered in awe, "you should have just told me."
He stood up and glared down at her. "It was not necessary at the time. I did not expect such a strategy."
Amy stood up and walked over in front of him. "Well, that's fine," she said, trying to calm him down, "but there're still a couple things I don't understand."
He quirked an eyebrow in question at her, telling her to continue.
"How did you get the ability to see assassins and such?"
Mitsukai smirked at her. "That, dove, would be the work of my so-called `employers', the Japanese Gods of Legend."
Amy's jaw dropped in astonishment. "Y-you're… working for the G-Gods," she squeaked out.
He nodded at her solemnly. "Did you have another question?"
She snapped out of her daze. "Oh, yeah," she said. "How can you see me?"
"Again, dove," he said, "that would be the work of the Gods." He gave her a small smile. "There will be other things you will figure out that they gave me, but for right now, that's all you need to know."
"Fine, but what do we do about him," she asked, jabbing her thumb in the direction Senpai went.
"You may try to stop him yourself, but until he makes a wrong move, I can't do anything about him."
"Fine," she huffed as they both flopped down on the chairs. "Sooooo, what now?"
As if on cue, Kage appears in the center of the living room, wearing a wide grin. "Cards anyone," she asked, spreading out a deck of cards in her hands.
Amy and Mitsukai looked at each other and shrugged. `Why not,' they thought in unison.
