Fan Fiction ❯ Fallen Angel ❯ Demon lord... ( Chapter 18 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

O.o That took quite a while… I'm sorry… Sesshoumaru-dono gave me a cold slug and I've had mountains of homework to do every night, so I've gotten little sleep… *sigh* Oh, well, here goes nothing…

Okay, so, last time what happened? Oh, yeah, Senpai was beating the royal stuffing out of Mitsukai, right? I know, weird way of saying it, but that's what happened! ^^ So, his right wing bones are completely shattered and his right forearm is broken in at least three different places… That about sums up all you need to know… Here we go! ^^

Amy quickly scrambled across the cold stone floor of the library, trying to reach Mitsukai before Senpai did. But she wasn't fast enough.

Senpai gave another painful kick to Mitsukai's ribs - and blood began to flow freely from his mouth. His eyes wondered to where Amy sat in the center of the library, her form fading in and out of his vision as he fought to stay awake. Tears overflowed from her eyes, dropping to the ground and shattering on the merciless, cold, stone ground. He made a move to sit up again, but was stopped when Senpai stomped on his chest then pressed his heel into the injured demon's neck, slowly suffocating him. Mitsukai wrapped his hands around Senpai's ankle, trying in vain to remove his foot so he could breathe.

"So weak, Lord Hotogoroshi," Senpai jeered, "how can you stand yourself?"

Mitsukai's eyes began to roll back in his head as he slipped into unconsciousness, but listened to what Senpai said next.

"It would seem as though my mission is close at hand; good luck in your next life, demon lord," he sneered, suddenly increasing the pressure on Mitsukai's neck.

Mitsukai coughed, blood flying from his throat as he struggled to tell his attacker something. Senpai looked down at him quizzically.
"You have last words to speak," he asked, amusement coloring his voice. "Very well."

Senpai lifted his foot slightly away from Mitsukai's neck, just enough so he could breathe to speak. Mitsukai smirked, the sight gruesome with blood pouring from the corner of his mouth.

"You," he hoarsely choked out, narrowing his eyes and smiling triumphantly, "just said the magic words."

"What are you talking about," Senpai questioned, thoroughly confused.

In response, Mitsukai tightened his grip on Senpai's ankle, reveling in the feel of his bones compressing. He thrust Senpai to the ground then carefully pushed himself into a sitting position. From there, he climbed to his feet, leaning heavily on the bookcase behind him.

Amy jumped up and quickly scurried across the floor again, but fell onto her stomach when Senpai's hand shot out and caught her leg. She struggled to get away, but he held fast, finally pulling her into a standing position with himself. He wrapped his left arm around her stomach and arms, pinning them to her sides, while his other hand firmly and painfully gripped her jaw to keep her from moving about.

Mitsukai let out a low growling sound, glaring menacingly at Senpai as Amy whimpered softly. He staggered forward a few steps then fell to his knees, unable to keep standing in his weak state.

"What's the matter, Hotogoroshi," Senpai sneered; "Too weak to stand up any longer? How did the Gods expect you to protect such a frail creature when you are so frail yourself?"

He laughed out loud, Mitsukai's bright flash of light going unnoticed in his laughter. Senpai looked back down to boast about his accomplishment, only to find Mitsukai to be gone, nowhere in sight.

`Where did he go?'

Amy began panicking, believing Mitsukai to have abandoned her, leaving her with this maniac. She whimpered slightly, gaining Senpai's attention once more.

"It would seem as though your demon lord has abandoned you, little one," he whispered evilly into her ear.

"No," she yelled, refusing to accept it, "no, he wouldn't! He would never leave me like this!"

"Oh, but I think his cowardice right now proves that he would."

Just then, a small piece of black fuzz dropped on his nose, causing him to sneeze and release Amy. She immediately crawled across the floor to the nearest bookcase and watched, terrified as Senpai began advancing on her. Before he was halfway to her, she spotted a small, black blur behind him. Focusing on it, she found it to be a small, black feather and followed its trail upward. There was Mitsukai on the ceiling, just above Senpai's head. He was in a position that very much so resembled a cat crouching just before it pounced, only upside down. As Senpai continued to advance on her, Mitsukai silently slunk across the ceiling, his movements flowing just like a large cat.

Senpai finally reached her and extended his hand to pull her towards him. In one swift movement, Mitsukai released his grip on the ceiling and dropped on top of Senpai, knocking him to the ground. They wrestled a bit before Mitsukai finally won out and pinned Senpai to the ground by his wrists.

"So, what will you do now, demon lord," Senpai asked, innocent curiosity lining his voice. "Will you kill me and go on protecting the girl? Or will you have mercy on me and seek out my master, demon lord? What will you do?"

"Stop it," Mitsukai yelled, moving one of his hands to Senpai's neck while the other held both of his wrists. "I am not the demon lord. And you will die, Senpai."

Amy watched on in horror as Mitsukai slowly strangled Senpai, his wing twitching irritably behind him. As Senpai breathed his last breath, Amy slid down to sit on the floor, staring on as Mitsukai gave one last squeeze and a terrible crack rent the air, insuring that Senpai was now dead if he wasn't before.

Mitsukai slowly got to his feet, holding his broken arm to his side as he staggered a few steps away from the corpse and toward the staircase before falling onto his side. Amy cautiously made her way past Senpai's body to Mitsukai, placing her hand gently on his shoulder. Without moving, he looked up at her, pain shining in his beautifully silver-black eyes. She carefully lifted his arm, earning a pained hiss from Mitsukai. She looked back down at him, but he made no move to stop her, just lying there on his side, watching her every move.

"W-we need to get you upstairs so I can bandage your wounds," she whispered quietly.

He nodded in understanding and warily climbed to his feet, immediately falling onto the bookcase beside him. He leaned heavily on the shelves, using them to help him make his way to the staircase then stumbled up the stairs, closely followed by Amy.

"Mitsukai," Amy asked quietly, watching his chest rise and lower in each pained attempt to breathe with the bandages around his torso. "Mitsukai," she said a little louder after he didn't open his eyes.

He carefully cracked one eye open and grunted for her to speak.

"W-what did he mean when he called you demon lord," she asked, refusing to speak Senpai's name.

Mitsukai sighed and pushed himself up to a full sitting position against the wall at the head of his futon. "My father," he whispered hoarsely, having great difficulty speaking with his injured ribs, "was a demon lord over five hundred years ago before he died in battle. The responsibility was supposed to be passed on to me, but I refused to accept it. A demon lord's duties include punishing misbehaving humans. I didn't want to do that. But my past never ceases to catch up with me." He hissed in pain suddenly, causing Amy to look up from the ground. He pointed to the symbol on his forehead. "This symbol means I rule my father's lands whether I want to or not. Everywhere I went, humans and demons alike knew what this meant. So, I could never escape my title until I left Japan."

He let his hand drop back down onto his lap and he closed his eyes again to rest.

"You know," he said suddenly, "your last name, Yuri, is Japanese."

"It is," Amy asked in astonishment.

"It's not really hard to figure out, dove," he laughed. "Have you never heard what Japanese sounds like? You can easily pick it out of an English sentence."

"Yeah, I used to wonder about that a lot, but never looked into it before."

"Hn," Mitsukai nodded, turning to stare out the window, "I guess you wouldn't. Pasts don't matter so much to humans anymore, do they?"

"Not to most people, they don't, but, I guess, my family's past matters to me. I've just never been able to find anything on them."

"I see. I remember a man by the name Yuri long ago," he whispered, looking down at his hands in his lap. "He was a good man, but, sadly, died in battle with a demon. I was helping him battle, and he requested that I look after his family after he died."

Mitsukai clenched his fists tightly. "But I couldn't. The young woman that gave me the bracelet you now wear was his daughter, his only child. Demons attacked while I was away and killed her and her mother. There was nothing I could do by the time I got there." He looked up at her, "if I had just been there, they would have lived. They would have led a long, happy life."

"Mitsukai, it's not your fault. I'm sure you had something important to do at the time," Amy tried to comfort him, but to no avail.

"Yes, going home to retrieve a spear I didn't need was very important," he retorted. "It was my fault, dove; it was all my fault."

Okay, I finally finished this chapter, and I was going to make it longer, because I wasn't planning on leaving it there, but I'm tired of writing this chapter, so I'm going to go read someone else's fanfic! Ja ne, Minna-san! ^^

Happy Haunting,
