AN: If you are reading the second chapter…THANK YOU! I am sorry it has been so slow but luckily from here on out it should get more interesting. If any of the movie quotes seem a little off, please forgive me. I don't have the movie or a proper reference to help me with this fic. Also if anything is terribly wrong please send me an email or review and let me know and I will fix it ASAP. I hope you like this so far. It has been fun to write and it was defiantly fun to dream too. But maybe to reason there are going to be so many different movie references is because I watch too many movies and read to many fan fics…anyway. Enjoy the chapter.

Chapter Two “Shades of Grey”
Hazel had been traveling absent mindedly for almost 5 hours when Yakool decided to come to an abrupt halt. “Wow!” she said her mouth a little agape. She had seen many places but still it awed her beyond words. Towering in the mountain side near several waterfalls stood what appeared to be the most amazing city she had ever seen. Hazel leaned down near the ear of the giant elk “Do you think its safe” his ear flicked a little and he jerked forward, starting in the direction of the city. “If you think so” she mumbled more to herself. Hazel and Yakool had been together for almost forever and his judgment on danger was usually far more accurate then her own sluggish human perception.
Hazel traveled slowly into the city. Hundreds of people went about their business not even paying attention to the new comer to there home. It wasn't until that she was stopped by someone that appeared to be a guard that anyone had even paid mind to her presence. It also wasn't until then that she had discovered that she was in fact in an elvish city. Hazel best friend back home was obsessed with elves and was always trying to prove they were real. No one believed her for elves at Hazel's home were nothing but a tale to entertain children and were not flesh as she saw before her.
“Can I help you?” Hazel dismounted out of courtesy “Is there a inn nearby were I might find a place to stay.” The male in front of her smiled a little, he certainly wasn't the least bit concerned with her presence and acted as if travelers were as normal here as the sun in the sky. Hazel smiled back, un-able to resist his kind smile and handsome face, he was cute and young looking.
“Everyone that wishes to stay in Rivendell must speak with Lord Elrond. He'll be able to help you, he decides who stays in Rivendell” Hazel nodded “I don't know where to find him, could you help me please?” The elf looked around obviously trying to find another guard to help her but he seemed to be the only one available “I suppose I can leave my post real quick to take you myself, it's not too far away” Hazel smiled and nodded “I don't want to trouble you” he smirked and shook his head “It's no problem, won't be a problem considering you're the only interesting thing to come my way” Hazel laughed nervously and he winked playfully.
Hazel tried to keep up with him as he jogged easily up the stairs. He was very tall compared to her and she had difficulty keeping up as he strode swiftly down the many halls and passage ways, passing elves as they went who were conversing to each other, several looked at her as she passed. Hazel though that they might look upon her with disgust as many did when she entered, dirty and dressed in men's clothing but all they did was smiled and nodded at her.
Yakool had stayed behind at the bottom of the stairs, more interested in feeding on some purple flowers that grew nearby then to follow, and more concerned with taking care of his hunger then to follow his mistress. Her guide assured her that he would be just fine telling her that he would be unharmed also letting her know that he would be taken to a stable and care for since he was obviously hungry.
He stopped in front of a giant door with a carved tree on it after many minutes of winding down different halls. Hazel was a little out of breath from how fast her guide was. “My name is Lólindir; if you need anything from me just ask. I will make sure you animal is taken care of for you.” Hazel smiled at him “Thank you, my name is Hazel” Lólindir smiled and his dark hair back in braids and twists and held back with a barrette, which Hazel would have thought to be too feminine but elves didn't seem to care, he wore a light blue cloak with several different shades of blue for his uniform. He nodded to her and opened the door to the room, instructing her to take a seat and he would inform Lord Elrond she was in here. He then closed the door behind him as he left, giving her a final nod.
Hazel sat silently is the rather large but disorganized office…or at least she supposed it was an office. There were several shelves of books which looked more then several centuries old, the desk nearby had several stacks of papers and many where spread indiscriminately across the surface. Her hands twitched with the urge to organize them, she was a bit of a perfectionist, but she restrained herself. Her thoughts of organizing the space were interrupted by an elf entering the room. He bustled in quickly taking a look about the room but completely over looking her nor seeming to want to notice her presence. He mumbled something in a foreign language in slight anger and started organizing the desk putting the papers in there proper places and then putting the cap on the forgotten ink jar. His long black hair streamed over his shoulders, almost as dark as the ink. His high cheek bones giving his a slight feminine appearance. He was attractive she supposed. Hazel watched his bustle about, mumbling more under his breath. “Hi” She smiled and wave awkwardly at him. He stopped a moment and looked up at her before immediately returning to his previous job of cleaning. Just as swiftly as he had come in, he left without so much of a word from her. Hazel supposed that anyone else would have taken this as being rude but she didn't, he was busy and she'd respect that.
A few more minutes passed and no one had come in yet. It wasn't until what seemed like hours later that the door opened and a tall, handsome, brown haired elf came in reading over a paper. He didn't look up but when he did he seemed surprised to see her there and he raised an eye brow in question. Hazel laughed silently to herself at this action wondering if anyone had bothered to inform her she was in here, or maybe he was surprised to find a woman. He immediately back over to the door and open it peeking his head out before yelling something in elvish, there soon was a rather angry reply from the hallway, which Hazel recognized as the dark haired elf who had come in earlier. He sighed and closed the door behind him. Hazel shifted a little under his gazed as he sat down in a chair near her instead of behind his desk. “Have I come at a bad time” Hazel frowned a little “I suppose I can come back later when you're not busy” she went to stand, grabbing her bag. “No no no, that won't be necessary.” He said in a demanding but non-threatening tone. She sat down slowly. “Ok, if you're sure?” he nodded and smiled a little “Of course it's no problem” he said softly, shifting through his papers making a mess of them again before taking out a blank sheet of parchment and opening his ink. He grabbed a pen the sat nearby and dipped it gracefully into the ink, never dripping any of it on the rim of the bottle. “I am Lord Elrond of Rivendell and why is it you're here” He looked at her, she smiled in a friendly manner “I was told I was to speak with you if I wish to stay in Rivendell” he nodded “For how long?” his pen scratched against the paper as she spoke “Just for three days, then I'll be on my way” looked at her “Only three days” she nodded and he raised an eyebrow “What is your name?” “Hazel” he nodded “Is there any specific purpose to your stay” Hazel shook her head “No, but I do hope I can replenish some of my supplies before I leave” “Of course…but before I agree to let you stay here, I must ask you a question” she nodded “Of course” “Do you serve the dark lord or the free people of middle earth?” he gazed at her intently, she tried not to blush. Although to human standards Hazel was sure he would be in his 40's she was positive he was much older, but he was still good looking. “I serve no one?” he frowned and she could see he wasn't exactly pleased with her answer. “So you could be easily swayed to serve either side.” Hazel smiled “no, I am not interested in serving either side and will remain as such. But I sure that doesn't matter since I will be out of here in three days” she smiled wider “So then you won't have to deal with me after that” he smiled a little “I suppose so.”
AN: GAWD! That was a painfully boring chapter on my part. Seriously! I am so frikkin sorry that was boring. It'll get better…I hate chapters leading up to the good part. Soon action will come my precious…soon! By the way…this chapter was called
Shades of Grey
Some things are perfectly clear, seen with the vision of youth. No doubt and nothing to fear, I claimed the corner on truth. These days it's harder to say I know what I'm fighting for. My faith is falling away, I'm not that sure anymore.
Shades of grey wherever I go the more I find out the less that I know. Black and white is how it should be but shades of grey of the colors I see.
Once there were trenches and walls and one point of every view. Fight `til the other man falls. Kill him before he kills you. These days the edges are blurred. I'm old and tired of war. I hear the other mans words, I'm not that sure anymore.
Shades of Grey are all that I find when I look to the enemy line. Black and white were so easy for me but shades of grey are the colors I see.
Now with the wisdom of years, I try to reason things out. And the only people I fear are those who never had doubts. Save us all from the arrogant men, and all the causes they're for. I won't be righteous again, I'm not that sure anymore.
Shades of grey wherever I go, the more I find out the less that I know. Ain't no rainbows shining on me, shades of grey are the colors I see.
