Chapter 2
I looked down at the unconscious girl in my arms, trying to think of something, of anything that would stop the bleeding at her throat. I knew I had certain powers of my own, but in the condition she was in, I wasn’t sure if that would be enough. If I didn’t try something soon, I could lose her forever. I had lost so much already…
More importantly than my own emotions, I knew that if I let her die, the Planet Heart might be found by someone or something else. If that happened, Kerahneeah would never be able to recover its peace.
Illusia, hold on… Please…
I held her closer, my shoulders shaking. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Silently, I prayed to any Gods who might be listening, I’m begging you… Don’t take her from me… Please…
“Terran, why are you so upset? I’m right here.”
For a second, I thought I heard her voice and looked down at her face. Sadly, she was as pale and motionless as ever. A single tear landed on her cheek. Yes, I was crying.
“Terran, please don’t worry… Don’t cry…”
That time, I was sure I had heard something. I looked down at her again only to find her in the same condition as before. Running my hand along the side of her throat, I found that the bleeding had completely stopped. I froze in horror when I realized, it seemed that her heart had too.
“Illusia,” I breathed. “No… Don’t do this…”
“Do what? I told you, I’m right here!”
Blinking dazedly, I tried to think of why I kept hearing her voice. It couldn’t be… But was there a chance that my last hope would come through? Focusing on her mind harder than I ever had before, I tried the only thing I could.
‘Illusia?’
“About time you noticed…”
‘But… How? Your heart… It stopped…’
“No it hasn’t. I think I would know if it had. My body is only shut down for a little while. My mind is still active, as you can tell. I promise you, I’m fine.”
‘Illusia, listen to me… You have to try and heal yourself.’
“How in the hell am I supposed to do that? I don’t even have enough energy to open my eyes…”
‘Then I’ll help you…’
“How -”
‘Don’t think about it… Just relax…’
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m out cold! Of COURSE I’m relaxed!”
Even unconscious and communicating telepathically, she still had an attitude.
Cute…
“What the f*ck?! I’m not cute!”
Oh shit… Now she could read my thoughts almost as well as I could read hers. This was going to be a problem.
‘Yes you are.’
I could hear her muffled grumbling mixed with a few words that would have made her father’s jaw drop. Wonderful, now she had a cat’s attitude and a sailor’s vocabulary. Just great…
“It’s not like I haven’t heard it all before…”
‘Too much information… Now stop breaking into my thoughts. I have to concentrate if I’m going to wake you up.’
“You never told me how -”
‘Shsh… Just relax.’
Before she could think of anything else, I shifted her up closer to me. I swallowed hard. This had probably never happened to her before. (I felt a surge of anger as the thought of her being held and loved by someone else flitted through my mind.) And sure as hell I was going to make sure that her first experience was memorable.
I let my lips gently brush hers. I could feel her shiver slightly as her breath caught. She had been right about her heart; her lips were soft and warm, so her heart was indeed still beating. I was going to make sure that, by the time I was through with her, her heart would not just be beating, but racing. Slowly, I pressed my mouth against hers, giving her plenty of time and letting her enjoy it. I could feel her trying to bring up the energy to respond.
Gently, I caressed her lips with the tip of my tongue. Slowly, she parted her lips at my touch, allowing me to brush my tongue against hers. I felt her breath catch again and it only urged me on. I barely hung onto my control, remembering that this was for her and that I needed to take this slowly. (Anyway, it wasn’t like there wouldn’t be plenty of time for this later.) As slowly as possible, I pulled away from her, giving her tongue one last teasing flick with my own and nipping her lower lip gently.
I was trying to get my erratic breathing under control when I felt her move. I froze, hoping for all the world that this wasn’t a dream and, if it was, I knew I never wanted to wake up. Slowly, as if instinct guided her, she raised her hand to my cheek. I looked down to find her peeking shyly up at me through her lashes and smiling as if she had just awakened from a good dream. Somehow, I felt slightly sleepy and dreamlike myself. I smiled back at her, so glad she was alright.
“Terran?”
“Hm?”
“Thank you…”
I leaned my forehead gently against hers. Lavender eyes widened in curiosity and blinked at me a few times.
“Not a problem, love,” I whispered, my voice becoming low and dark with desire. “In fact, I think I enjoyed that… What about you?”
“You’re wonderful… I loved it…”
That was all the encouragement I needed. Slipping a hand around to the back of her neck, I tilted her head back gently. I stopped no more than a quarter of an inch away from her lips, our breaths becoming one little cloud in the cold night air. I closed half that distance and flicked my tongue over her lower lip. Her breathing quickened a little, her lips just barely parted. Unable to wait any longer, I pressed my mouth against hers once again. My tongue curled around hers, teaching it the rhythm that was as old as love itself. Masculine pride flickered in my mind as she made a soft mewling sound into our kiss.
I pulled away from her lips slowly. She made a small sound of discontent as cold air touched her kiss-swollen lips. I couldn’t have that, could I? Placing kisses along her jawline, I moved up to the sensitive spot behind her ear. She arched her throat into my kisses and another mewling noise rewarded me. The hand that had rested on my cheek was now tangled in my hair.
Slowly, I moved down to the pulse point on her throat, where two tiny puncture wounds stood out in cold relief. Her breath caught sharply. Slight movements on my part massaged the sensitive skin on her pulse point, turning her breath to short panting. I felt her hand tighten into a fist in the fabric of my shirt as she writhed a little in my arms. Pulling away only inches, I saw that the two punctures had only left faint scars.
One last kiss on her throat, making her shudder, and I was back to her lips. This time, her little tongue flicked over my lower lip, darting between my lips to caress mine. Growling softly, I pressed against her again, twisting my tongue around hers. Not a soft mewling noise, but a low moan from deep in her throat greeted this new maneuver. I tightened my hold on her, pressing her body closer to mine. We stayed that way for so long.
Too soon, I found myself returning to reality. As slowly as I possibly could, I started pulling away. Gently, I bit down on her lower lip, then kissed it, suckling lovingly on the already-kiss-swollen flesh. A soft, chaste kiss on her lips and I finally straightened up.
Looking down at her, I was surprised at how this had affected her. She had been a total innocent, yet she lay here in my arms, her eyes half-closed and her breathing quick and heavy. I placed my hand over the pulse point at her throat and found that I had achieved what I said I would. Her heart was racing a mile a minute. And still, somehow she retained her innocent nature.
Holding her close, I managed to push myself to my feet. Looking up, I saw a tree that would serve our purpose well tonight. An old god-tree, it had lots of large, thick branches that would easily hold our weight. A short, straight-up jump and we were on one of the larger branches in a split second.
I settled back against the smooth trunk with Illusia still in my arms. She shifted slightly, her head resting on my right shoulder and her long, silky lavender hair streaming all around us. Her warm breath, still a bit erratic from before, tickled the skin of my throat. A thin hand, now regaining its normal coloration, had somehow landed over my heart. Sighing and mewling contentedly, Illusia’s beautiful lavender eyes closed and soon she was almost asleep. I pulled my coat closer around her.
Raising my left hand to her cheek, I stroked her smooth skin, which was returning to its soft olive tone. Her breath caught just a little. Shifting her position a little, I pulled her closer for a gentle kiss. Smoky black eyelashes fluttered and two shining lavender orbs blinked up at me.
“Good night, Illusia… Rest and get your strength back. I won’t let him hurt you again… I love you.”
“I love you too,” she mumbled sleepily as her eyes closed again.
I remember going to sleep feeling more content than I ever had in my life.
