Innocence: The Black Bunny, Chapter 2
"So what was it you needed to tell me?" Munemori asked me. We'd finally got home and I had refused to tell him in the car. Right now, he was coming out of the kitchen with two cups of tea. I gratefully took one of them and waited till Munemori sat down on the black chair across from me. We were sitting in our black living room and I was on the couch, there was a long coffee table between the two pieces of furniture.
"It's about the CDs and the disc-man I got." I started. Munemori nodded, and sipped his tea, waiting for me to continue. "Well, you see...When I was fourteen...My parents kicked me out of the house and I was forced to live with my brother." I noted that Munemori's eyes widened but he didn't interrupt.
"So, my brother...He bought me things that my neglecting parents never got me. He bought me some CDs, clothes and...A black bunny. I already had a disc-man that my sister, Kit, bought for me, along with a CD she burned. The CDs that were in the package, and the disc-man, are the exact same. The same CDs and disc-man that my brother bought me."
"You...had a sister?" Munemori asked. It was obvious that he didn't want to ask about my brother, because my tone had betrayed me. My voice held a hint of fright and hatred towards my brother. I nodded in response to Munemori's question.
"She...was killed. I don't know who did it. My brother was in the room with her when she was stabbed, but he says it was someone else that killed her. It was supposed to be some sort of revenge or something." I took a big gulp of my tea. "You see...it was really hard for me to believe him, because he...raped her before she died." Munemori almost dropped his cup.
"He what? And you lived with him?" He was shocked to say the least.
"I had no choice. You see...when Kit was alive, my brother, Yuichi, would rape her when my parents were out, and he drugged me before hand. I couldn't do anything to save her. He...even accused me of killing her." I said. I placed the cup of tea on the table and placed my head in my hands. "He told me, that the person who killed Kit, made him choose between me and Kit. He chose Kit. He was always telling me things after that...kept telling me I was beautiful and that's why he hurt me." I was crying by that point and Munemori had left the chair and was now sitting next to me, holding me and telling me things were alright now.
"I don't know who would be sending me things that only my brother knew about. It can't be him because he doesn't even know where I am. I didn't even know where I was when I first got here. I didn't tell anyone that I was running away except...And he didn't know where I was going either." I said.
"Relax. I'm sure it can't be him. It must be someone else. It's probably just a coincidence that whoever is sending you these packages, it sending you the same ones. I mean, have you looked at how old they are? They're probably half the price they were when your brother bought them. It's probably just one of your fans." That was something I hadn't thought of. It must be. They all knew that I sang when I was younger, it somehow leaked out when I was attacked with dozens of questions and barely had time to think of the answer before they asked another one.
"You're probably right. I'm worrying for nothing."
"But...will you promise to tell me everything that happened when you were younger? When you're ready of course." I paused. I wasn't sure if I could tell him. But I had to try, after all, he's the only one that I've loved that has never hurt me.
"I can't promise that I will...But I can promise that I'll try." I said.
"That's good enough. Come on, let's get some rest. You have to argue with your band members tomorrow, remember?" Munemori asked. He was trying to lighten the mood, by stating the obvious but in a slightly joking manner. I smiled and stood up.
"That's right. I have to tell them that my lover is making me stop practices, because he's too horny to wait all day." I grinned at him and he shoved me good-humoredly. I scooped him up and laughed at his surprised yelp, then carried him into the bedroom.
I dropped him unceremoniously onto the bed and ran into the bathroom, grabbing my pajamas on the way, before he could chase after me.
I came out a few minutes later after changing and brushing my teeth, to find Munemori already changed and in bed. I couldn't tell if he was sleeping or not. I turned out the bathroom light, and walked around the bed to climb into bed next to him, which put me on the left side and him on the right next to the bathroom.
"Nice of you to join me." He said. Then he rolled over enough to cuddle up next to me, resting his head on my chest and I wrapped an arm around him, pulling him closer.
It was nights like this that I had been missing, thanks to the band. Nights where instead of making love to Munemori, the two of us just went to sleep, listening to the sounds of each others' breathing and being grateful that I had someone as great as him.
The next morning, I woke up a few minutes earlier than usual and noticed that Munemori was nowhere in sight. I was worried until the smell of pancakes filled my nostrils, and I climbed out of bed, heading to the kitchen.
Munemori was standing in front of the stove with his back to the kitchen doorway. I snuck up behind him and wrapped my arms around him. Munemori gave another yelp of surprise and jumped.
"Ohayo, Mune." I said.
"Yeah, yeah, morning to you too. Mind not scaring me when I'm making pancakes?" He joked. I stepped back in mock hurt.
"You mean...You'd rather I just came in and ate your wonderful breakfast without showing my thanks and appreciation? Fine then, I think I'll do just that." Then I walked over to his side and stole one of the cooled pancakes from the plate he had made.
"Hey!" He turned and glared at me. "No stealing pancakes or you can starve." He stuck his tongue out at me then turned around. I rolled my eyes.
"Jeez, moody cook." I teased, then I ate the pancake and hugged him from behind again. "Are we done with the dramatics now, Mune?" I whispered into his ear. I felt him shiver then he nodded. "So what do you want to do today? Seeing as how I'll soon have the day off." I asked. Munemori scooped the last of the pancakes onto the plate and turned off the stove.
"I'm not planning anything until you call your band." Munemori said. Then he freed himself from my grasp and casually sat down at the table with his pancakes.
"Let me guess, you're not going to let me eat either are you?" I asked. He grinned and shook his head, then ate a pancake mockingly. I sighed and went to the phone and dialed Shiori's number.
// Hello? // Was the groggy reply.
"Shiori?"
//Yeah, what do you want Zeshin?//
"Well, we need to discuss our practices. I can't come to them anymore if they're during the day."
//What?! What are you talking about? You have to!// She protested.
"I'm sorry Shiori, but I can only come to night practices and I don't want many of those either. I need to spend time with your brother." I explained.
//Oh! So this is so you can be with Mune? Then go ahead, I won't stop you. You really are sweet sometimes, Zeshin.// You could almost hear Shiori's smile over the phone.
"Thanks, but I need you to tell the others. You know they'll just cut me off before I can explain."
//Sure thing! I guess I'll see you at the next scheduled night practice then?//
"Of course. Bye."
//Bye!// The click was heard as Shiori hung up the phone.
"There. Happy now?" I turned and looked at Munemori. He grinned at me then I noticed his plate was empty.
"Hey! Not fair!" I whined.
"Relax you big baby, here." He uncovered a hidden plate covered in pancakes.
"Yum!" I exclaimed. Then I dug into my pancakes while Munemori watched me.
"What, do I have something on my face?" I asked. Munemori seemed to have zoned out and was staring at me. He shook his head to clear it then smiled.
"No, sorry. I didn't mean to stare."
"It's ok." I pushed my empty plate away and slide down part-ways in my seat. "You never answered my question, Mune. What do you want to do today?" I asked.
"Nothing...I just want to be here with you. I'm...really tired. I think I need some more sleep." I glanced at the clock. Ten thirty. We went to bed at about eleven yesterday.
"What time did you get up, Mune?"
"Ten." He said. I frowned.
"What's wrong? You shouldn't be tired."
"I...just...please. Drop it right now. I need some sleep." Mune got out of his chair and practically dragged himself to the bedroom and collapsed on the bed.
Something's not right... I thought. I went into the bedroom where Mune was laying and put my hand to his forehead, instantly removing it.
"Shit! You're burning up! What's wrong Mune? You have to tell me."
"I'm...not feeling well..." Then he passed out and I quickly began to take care of him, trying to get his temperature down.
It wasn't until another hour or two later that Munemori finally woke up.
"Mune. Be serious for me, what's going on?"
"Flu...serious...Didn't want to...ruin your day." He smiled weakly. "Didn't work."
"Is that where you've been going? To the doctor?" Munemori nodded.
"Said...should last...week maybe...not sure." He shut his eyes tightly, trying to block out his pain.
"Munemori. You should have told me." I used his full name to let him know I was dead serious and slightly angry. He smiled again.
"Sorry." Then he passed out again.
It didn't make sense. It happened so quickly. He was fine one minute, then the next he could barely move. And...he'd been going to the doctor for a while. I was beginning to think that it was more than just a flu.
I went to the phone and called Shiori again. I was going to find out what was happening around here.
//Hello?//
"Shiori, I need you to come over here. Now." Then I hung up the phone and waited for her to arrive.
About twenty minutes later, there was a knock on the door and I hurried to answer it.
"Well, I'm here, what's so important?" Shiori asked. I quickly showed her into the bedroom where Munemori was still asleep.
"What's wrong with him?" Shiori asked. She rushed to his side and put a hand on his forehead. "Shit! He's burning up!" At the sound of Shiori's voice, Munemori's face scrunched up in pain and he started moving in his sleep. Kicking, but not very well. His body was like it was made out of lead.
"Shiori, I need you to look after him while I'm gone." I cupped Munemori's face with one hand and kissed his nose. "I'll be back soon." I whispered to him. He stopped thrashing and relaxed. He was sweating.
"Where are you going?" Shiori asked.
"I need to see his doctor. He told me that he's been going to see a doctor for a while now and I need to know what's wrong with him." I said. Shiori nodded and went into the kitchen. I followed, wondering what she was doing.
When I got into the kitchen she was writing something down. She handed me the paper, it had an address on it.
"That's the doctor's address. His name is there too." She said. I nodded and put the paper into my pocket.
"I have to get going. Thanks, Shiori." I said. Then I headed out the door, nearly tripping over another package.
Not wanting to waste time with it, I kicked it inside the doorway and shut the door, running out of the apartment building. The office wasn't far so I wasn't going to take the car; there was always the possibility that I'd get stuck in traffic.
About fifteen minutes after I left, I found the office and ran inside, looking for the office of Munemori's doctor.
Looking on the directory for the building, I saw the name Dr. Shiratori and ran to the elevator. He was on the fourth floor of the five floor building.
I ran to the doctor's office and walked in. There wasn't a patient there, just him. I think I had ignored the secretary when she told me that I needed an appointment.
The doctor was a little surprised when I barged in unannounced.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"I sure as hell hope so." I said. "I need to know about one of your patients, his name is Shiteki Munemori."
"I'm sorry. I cannot give out a patient's records. It goes against the doctor and patient rule. Sorry."
"Look. I don't give a damn about your stupid rules. He's sick and I need to know what's wrong with him!" I growled.
"You know him? I thought he lived with his family and didn't see anyone."
"Well you're wrong. I know him; he wouldn't be my lover if I didn't. He lives with me, now tell me what's wrong with him!" I yelled. I was getting very impatient, I never liked doctors much, any kind. I hate them all.
"Lover...well if there's something wrong then I guess I should tell you. Munemori is suffering from a disease that was just recently discovered. It's kind of like the flu, but has different effects. You'll have the same symptoms, but as to when they show up or when you start to feel sick, it's completely random. There is a cure, but it takes a while to work and you have to give it to them once they've started to feel the effects of the disease. I have some ready for him in case it happened." The doctor went to his shelf of drugs with prescriptions for specific people and pulled out a small bottle of liquid and a syringe.
"Here. Give this to him, he'll feel better. You only need to give it to him once. Oh, and he's already paid for it. Now, this disease isn't contagious, so you can still be in the same room. He's had this for a while now and I think he'll be glad to be rid of it." The doctor smiled and gave me a bag. I quickly put the medicine in the bag, not understanding a word he said about the illness and ran out of the office and back towards my home.
When I got home, I rushed into the bedroom. Munemori wasn't sleeping anymore, and Shiori was helping him eat some soup. I sighed with relief that he seemed to be okay and walked over next to him. Shiori put the soup down and moved out of my way.
"I went to your doctor, Mune." I said.
"You did?" Munemori seemed a little worried. I think it was probably because he hadn't told me earlier that he was sick.
"Hai. I got the medicine that he had ready for you." I pulled the needle and medicine bottle out of the bag. Munemori's eyes widened at the needle and he looked away from me.
"I know you don't like needles, Mune. But this is the only way you'll get better." I said, trying to comfort him. Shiori walked to the other side of the bed where Munemori's gaze was, and started talking to him. I realized that she was distracting him, and I silently thanked her for it.
I put the needle into the bottle and drew out the medicine. It was a clear blue colour, pretty for medicine. While Shiori had him distracted, I stuck the needle in his arm and injected the medicine. Munemori nearly shrieked when the needle went in him but remained calm so I wouldn't hurt him accidentally.
"There." I said. I pulled the needle out of his arm and set it on the nightstand. "It's all done."
"Thanks, Zeshin." He whispered. He hugged me then lay back on the bed.
"I'll leave you alone now." Shiori said. She stood and left the room. I followed her and thanked her as she walked out the door.
"Are you feeling any better, Mune?" I asked when I got back into the bedroom. He was eating soup again.
"A little. Are you mad at me for not telling you?" Munemori asked me. I could tell he was feeling guilty.
"Not too much. I'm a little upset that you didn't mention it, but I have secrets of my own and I think it's time I told you." I sat on the edge of the bed next to Munemori; he had put his soup down. "I must say...I'm a little nervous...I've never told anyone." I said.
"It's alright, Zeshin. Take your time." Munemori said.
I relaxed a little and began to tell him about my brother. About him raping Kit and I changed it so that he hurt me but I didn't specify how. About Shiro and his fake love for me, but I didn't mention that he raped me first. Everything, almost. Except...not in detail...and I said nothing about my bunny and definitely didn't say that I had been raped, only hurt.
By the time I was finished, I was near tears, and Munemori had moved me so that I was curled up to him. He was running his fingers through my hair in a comforting motion.
"That's...That's why I freaked a little at the restaurant last night." I said. "I saw some people that looked like Shiro and my brother." I said. Then I finally broke down all the way and cried. I hadn't cried in a while.
Munemori held me closer. He coughed a few times and I looked to see if he was okay. He smiled at me and wrapped his arms around me. I eventually cried myself to sleep in Munemori's arms.
