The sun was high in the sky and Relena, Karagon, and Myr were finally on their way. After overcoming her internal embarrassment, Relena couldn't help but observe Myr with intense fascination. She had never met an elf before. But she had always listened attentively to the legends about the elven folk. Relena had wondrous tales about the many talents and abilities of the pale folk, tales that everyone else brushed aside as fantasy. But here was an elf sitting right before her eyes. How many of the tales were actually true? Relena was about to find out.

The three wayfarers had been riding for 3 days. Yet, it seemed like eons of time had passed. Relena was getting restless and thirsty for action. Karagon was sober and solemn. And Myr was alert and silent.

At sunset the trio camped out by a river. Relena was curled up in her tent, her knees tucked into her chest. Myr and Karagon had both volunteered for night watch. Together they constructed a fire. Myr sat cross-legged, his back straight, and a hand on his bow and arrows. Karagan was on the opposite side of the fire, lounging on a log.

I wish something would happen Relena thought angrily this journey is getting quite boring. It's too quiet Myr thought far too quiet and peaceful. I don't like it.

Karagon watched Myr's eyes dart to and fro. He had always marveled on how his friend could remain perfectly calm in the most dangerous of situations. Karagon sighed as he adjusted his sword and listened for unnatural signs of life.

As if on cue a large outcry and a green flash of light occurred. Immediately Myr and Karagon were on their feet. Relena burst out of her tent a few moments later. Karagon took off after the sound first, blundering through the trees in an ungraceful manner. Myr took off after him, easily overtaking Karagon and leaving him behind. Relena sprinted after both men, silently swearing as the many branches raked her arms and legs.

It was Myr who reached the scene first.

"Good Lord." He muttered as he surveyed the land before him. Below Myr was a whole band of rowdy Shinma. They were circling a young man. His hair was white; his eyes gold, and in his hand was a long staff. Mir caught his breath, a sorcerer. Swiftly and skillfully the elf slipped off his bow and notched an arrow. Relena got there in time to see Myr strike a Shinma between the eyes. So, the tales are true thought Relena as she watched Myr shoot another Shinma through the neck. Karagon got there shortly afterward. Without hesitating he drew his sword and plunged into the fight skillfully stabbing the demons as Myr picked off Shinma from above. Relena carefully made her way through the mess and finally reached the sorcerer's side.

Cyrinth watched the young woman draw nearer to where he stood. When she reached his side she looked up at him and spoke.

"Do not be afraid young sorcerer. We mean you no harm." Relena reached out her hand. Without hesitation Cyrinth took it. Relena closed her eyes and summoned her healing powers; given to her by the god she served, Maritimus, the god of the Sea. Cyrinth watched Relena with fascination. Who was this woman? And how did she come to possess such an unusual amount of power? Relena released the sorcerer's hand and opened her eyes. Cyrinth opened his mouth to speak until a roar came up from behind him. Cyrinth whirled around. A Shinma crouched before them. Relena felt her blood run cold at the sight of the repulsive dark creature. Suddenly it let out a cry of outrage and came charging at both the cleric and the sorcerer. In hopes of redeeming himself for his fatal mistake, Cyrinth attempted a summoning of a ring of fire. This attempt failed as the demon charged at the unsuccessful sorcerer and catapulted him up into the trees behind him. Relena watched in horror as the sorcerer's body smashed into a tall trunk. She turned fearfully around to face the menacing Shinma. It let out a growl that sent tremors of panic down her spine. In hopes of saving herself, Relena summoned the aid of the Sea god to drive the Shinma back. The demon only hesitated for a moment, then it drove on towards Relena. The cleric glanced up, Myr was busy shooting Shinma that had surprised him with the ability of flight. Karagon was grappling with an oversized giant of a Shinma who was trying to drive him over the nearby waterfall. And the sorcerer was gone; Relena would have to tackle this beast on her own.
