Chapter 2

The Past Comes Back

Hey, this is my first fanfic so I'm still learning.

They all got up staring at Kenna. She couldn't say that she like to tell that story but if she didn't everyone would go on thinking she was a monster that killed her mother (that was one of the many `stories' that Katara had talked of). But telling that story never got easy.
“Would you like to see where you will be sleeping?” Mr. Adders asked Aang, Sokka, and Katara.
“Yes, please, sir.” Answered Katara.
“Well me and Kikeyo have some catching up to do. I've got lots of stories for you, Kikeyo.” Said Kenna walking to the door. “We'll be right outside.”
“Good, if any costumers come, I hope you can handle it, Kenna.” Said the old man looking at her as she left.
“Yep.” She said with a smile as she went out the door with Kikeyo right behind her.
The old man showed them all there rooms. Aang and Sokka would be sharing a room, and Katara would have to share with Kenna. Luckily they all had there own beds. Mr. Adder's house really was bigger then it looked when they first saw it. They finished and walked outside, Kenna was in the middle of a story.
“Okay, so it was this big tree house, I mean big too. Jet was just standing there smiling at me. I'm in shook. I couldn't believe a couple of bandits could make this brilliant home in the trees. It was great there. I wish you could have been there. You would have loved it.” Kenna spoke with happiness as she saw the smile on Kikeyos' face get bigger.
“Did you say Jet?” Sokka interrupted.
“Yeah, why? Do you know him?” asked Kenna. Sokka shook his head yes.
“He let us stay with him too.” Said Katara. “But he ended up being a bit of a jerk.”
Kenna laugh, “yeah he really was. But remember he never really had a family. He was looking for revenge. To bad he was going about it all wrong.” Kenna shook her head still smiling.
They all talked for sometime. They spoke of their times with Jet, and all the other places they had been. Aang was finding Kenna to be more and more of a friend. She told stories of near escapes. All the towns she'd been to. Kenna was a very interesting girl. But with every story she told, they had a story to counter it. It was really nice just talking to Kenna, not only for Aang but for everyone. She seemed to know just what to say. It was most likely because she had live through something like it and knew what she had wanted to hear at the time.
Kenna was having fun telling everyone about here past few years. The only one who ever seemed interested before Aang, Sokka, and Katara was Kikeyo. They all seemed so friendly, like they had known her since she was a kid. They had also gone through almost as much as she had. They could relate to her and she could relate right back! They were friends before they knew it. Kenna was so lost in having fun she didn't see it coming. By the time she saw it, it was to late to stop. She had friends and she couldn't help but be glade. Even though she knew that she shouldn't have let it happen, and she knew that this meant Aang, Katara, and Sokka would know be in more trouble then they were already in. But he was glade when Katara asked her to start go with them.
“Kenna, you seem so strong and brave, I think you should come with us. You can travel with us up to the north. We already have the fire nation fallowing or every step so it wouldn't matter if you came along. I think we could use your help too.” Katara finished sounding very enthusiastic.
“ I don't know Katara…” said Kenna letting her smile fade only a little
“Oh come on, I really want you to came with us too!” said Sokka remembering how fast she had made that fire. They really could use her help.
“Yeah, come with us Kenna.” Said Aang smiling.
Kenna looked at all there faces. Even Kikeyo looked like she wanted Kenna to go with them. It was a hard choice, she really did wanted to go. But if they got hurt and it was her fault, she could never forgive herself. Of course there were all the stories they told her. They could take care of themselves. Plus she could use there help too. After all Aang was the avatar. He could help clear her name, with all the other villages at least.
“Yeah okay, I'll go with you to the North Pole.” Answered Kenna after a while. She knew she made the right choice.
“Great!” said Aang, Katara, and Sokka all at once. And so it was, Kenna would accompany them to the North Pole. She would help them and they would help her. She would be there friend and they would be hers.
They spent much of the day talking. They laughed and had fun, till the sun went down. They did want to stop to go in for bet (exactly Kikeyo because that meant that her cousin would be leaving in the morning) but the all had to get up early. So they made their way through the door into their rooms and to their beds.

It the middle of the night Kenna woke up. She thought she heard a scream. She looked over to Katara, but she was sound asleep. So Kenna got up and made her way to Aang and Sokkas' room. She looked around at them, but the boys were sleeping unharmed. After that she walked quietly to Mr. Adder's room, he to was fine. Finally she got to kikeyos' room. Everything looks okay. But as she looked close in the darkness at the bed she saw it was empty. Kenna ran over to it, then she saw it, a knife stuck in the pillow. It belonged to the firebenders.
Kenna ran out of the house and headed to a nearby beach. Maybe they were still there and hadn't left yet. There was a small hope that she could reach them before the left. As she ran all she could think of was how angry she was at Zhao. She knew it was him, there was know drought in her mind. He was the only one how would have done it.
As she nearer the beach she could hear voices. They hadn't left yet, there was still hope that she could catch them. She sped up as she was almost it sight of the beach. She was so close. Then, there it was. There they where. The firebender army, and right in front of there big ship, she could see Zhao. And in his arms she could see her cousin. Kikeyo was out cooled but she looked okay.
“ZHAO! Let her go!” Kenna shouted walking quickly over to him. All the solders looked at her but they didn't move to stop her, they continued to put out the camp fires and load cargo into the ship.
“Oh yes, Miss Kenna. I've been waiting for you. What took you so very long.” He was smiling in an evil way as she stopped about five feet from him.
“I'm not my of a morning person. I talk a while to get up. But now that I'm here, my I please have the girl back.” She smiled weekly. She really wasn't in the mood for his games, but knew better then to not play.
“I have a better idea,” he said as he pulled a knife out of what looked like nowhere. “You come with me nice and calmly and I don't kill your little friend.” He dropped Kikeyo so her throat was to the knife.
“You BASTERD!” she screamed but she knew it was over. She was going to get on that ship. She was going to the fire nation. And on a sunrise coming soon she would be killed. But she would do that just to keep that little girl safe.
“I can kill her now, or you can save her.” Zhao was smiling in a way that made Kenna want to scream at him to wipe that dumb smile off his face, but she held back. “It's your pick girl, not mine”
“Fine, you win, but if you kill her I'll…” she began but he cut her off.
“You'll what, kill me. I'm so scared child, really I am.” Zhao mocked.
“No, I'll do you one better. You kill her and I'll kill myself.” Once Kenna had said it, the dumb smile was wiped off his face, and Kenna was very pleased.
“What would I care if you killed yourself.” Zhao snapped bitterly.
“I don't think you Lord Ozai would be happy if you let me die on our ship, not at sunrise.” Kenna was smiling at the small power she found.
“LOCK HER UP IN THE CELL!” Zhao yelled to a nearby man, who grabbed Kenna and dragged her onto the ship. Soon she was in a cell and her cousin (still out cold was next to her) and the ship was leaving.

Unseen to everybody Prince Zuko hiding in the wood, and seen and heard what happened. Only he knew that the girl was friends with the Avatar. Prince Zuko then went to his uncle with a story like no other. After finishing he waited to hear what his uncle had to say.
“So Admiral Zhao kidnapped a little girl, only to kidnap another girl. Using very cheap methods he succeeds, but the girl is not dumb. She won't let anything happen to her little friend. And she is also Kenna of fire and earth. And she is also the friend of the Avatar… if you over heard there conversation they had correctly.” Said Uncle Iroh trying to make sure he heard it all right.
“Yes, but I did hear right, and once the avatar finds her gone he will go find her I know it!” he snapped at his uncle.
“So then, what's your plan.” Asked Uncle Iroh calmly.
“To take her before the avatar does, and use her as a trap.” Said Prince Zuko almost happily.
“She is wanted by the fire nation. Will you send her to her death.” Asked Iroh very seriously.
“No.” Answered the prince simply.
