&nbs p; About an hour later, the group reached the village. Taylin noticed that Jatar's whistling had stopped and looked around for him. He then popped up next to her, showing off yet another demon head.
"Had to pick off a demon spy." Jatar grinned at his prize.
"Nice cloaking skills."Taylin examined the skull further.
"Well that's what happens when you're at least four hundred years ahead of the human race."
"I see. Well we're here, and it looks like there's more people in this village."
As they walked into the village, they received stares from the villagers, even a few glares. Jatar kept his guard up.
"They seem a bit scared of us." Jatar whispered to Taylin.
"Why?" She paused to look at Jatar.
"Well look at us. We're still in our second form." Jatar answered. Taylin looked at herself, especially at her wings.
"I see. Oh well, I don't plan to change back." She stated. Jatar felt someone glare at his back and turned to see a villager with a scowl on his face.
"Don't even think about it. I'm faster and stronger than you."
"You have nothing to fear from us. We mean you no harm. We inquire about the demons attacking your village. Is there a village leader about?" Taylin asked the villagers. One stepped forward.
"There was." The elderly man answered.
"Hmm? Explain." Taylin requested.
"He was killed by a demon a few weeks ago, but we know not where it hides." He answered.
"Do you know which direction it came from?" Taylin inquired.
"No, only our chief did but he would not tell us." Taylin sighed in frustration. She then turned to the villagers.
"Does anyone else have any useful information?!"
"No." They answered in unison.
"We may have to stay a while." Jatar whispered to Taylin. She turned to her right, where Jatar was standing.
"How so?"
"If they don't know anything, then we have to stay here to protect the village from harm." He responded.
"I see." Taylin turned back to the villagers. "We require shelter. Are there any vacancies?"
"Only in our chiefs hut, but we don't go in there out of respect for him." The elderly man answered. Taylin looked at Jatar.
"Any suggestions?"
"We'll take the hut. If anything happens, it's thouroughly our responsibilty."
"Fine. We'll take the chief's hut for the night." The villagers bowed towards the group. "There's not need to be formal." Taylin stated.
"On the contrary, we must be because you are the only ones brave and kind enough to help us." The elderly man stated, while still bowing.
"No need for flattery." Kogashi stated.
"Don't get an even bigger head, dogboy." Taylin stated. Yosha just crossed his arms.
"Weaklings. Glad I wasn't human." Jatar turned to him.
"SHUT UP YOSHA AND HEEL!" Yosha feel over onto his side from his heavy body. Taylin turned to Yosha.
"Yosha, are you so spiteful towards your mother's race?" Yosha blinked in confusion. "Although she was human, she loved you. At least show some respect. Human blood does course through you."
"At least my mother was prepared to fight!" Yosha stood from his place on the floor. Taylin turned her gaze towards the hut they would be staying in for the night.
"Are you ready for me?"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You mother was much braver than you'll ever be, at least in my assumption." Taylin turned back towards a seething Yosha. "Are you prepared to fight like her? Fight for something you believe in? As she did for you?"
"HOW DARE YOU!" Yosha pulled out his massive blade. "You're damn right I'm ready! Don't ever call me weak!"
"Whatever."
"Enough!" Jatar's voice cut through their arguing. Taylin looks at Jatar unfazed by his interruption. "Stop this goddamn fighting! Save it for the real enemies." Taylin glared at Yosha and walked off towards the hut slowly.
'Look what that bastard has gone and done...he's turning us against each other and Tay-chan's curse doesn't help matters much...'
"Aren't you coming?" Taylin's voice broke through his thoughts.
"Y-yeah, coming." Jatar jogged ahead and caught up with her. Taylin reached the hut and opened the doors.
"It's beautiful in here." Taylin looked around the hut, while Jatar eyed a ceremonial sword. "Leave it Jat-kun." She knew exactly what he was staring at. "This isn't our home...yet..." Taylin shakes her head in confusion.
'Oh no...' Jatar thinks to himself. Taylin sighed.
"I think I'll go meditate for a bit. That walk was quite an ordeal." Taylin sits in front of a window.
"What's wrong, Tay?" Jatar's voice was laced with worry for his close friend.
"I'm just a bit tired. Nothing more." Taylin gave him an encouraging smile. Jatar looked at her suspiciously. "Seriously! I'll just meditate and I'll be fine." she assured him.
'Hopefully...' He thought to himself. He watched as she closed her eyes.
Taylin began to see crimson liquid behind her eyelids. She heard soul shattering screams and demonic laughter throughout her head. She opened her eyes quickly and gasped.
"What is it, Tay?" Jatar asked, in the middle of shining his swords. She looked towards him.
"No more cookies before meditating. Bad Idea." Jatar chuckled at the respnose.
"I'll keep that in mind."
"So what time do you think the monster would come? Any idea?"
Jatar continued shining his weapons. "Mostly likely during the dead of the night, when everyone is asleep."
"I agree." Taylin stretched in her spot.
"However, look outside..." Taylin looked outside and saw that it was raining. "I can't go out in the rain."
"Why not? Scared of lightning?" She teased Jatar.
"No. My cloaking doesn't work in the rain. Every drip that hits me makes a small electrical distortion around me, making me visible for a short time." Jatar explained.
"So just don't wear it." she simply stated.
"But if we're going to take that demon by surprise, I'm gonna have to." he interjected. Taylin rubbed her temple in frustration.
"Listen, if you cloak won't work properly, we'll just have to do it the old fashioned way." Jatar looked at her in confusion. "Using the shadows to our advantage."
"You mean guerilla tactics?"
Taylin looked at him exasperately. "And I thought you were a hunter..."
Jatar scratched his head in embarassment. "Well, I rely heavily on my cloaking so I can take out my enemy without bringing attention to myself. But I cant try it."
"You know, you cant rely on your cloaking. Times like this you need to rely on your innate skills. I'm sure they're there. You just need to brush them off." She gave him a teasing wink.
"Don't worry, I'm just as good with fighting without my cloaking." he reassured her.
"Good. We should get some rest before any fighting." Taylin offered.
"Sounds good." Jatar walked over to his sleeping blanket and instantly fell asleep.
"Well that was quick. You gonna get some sleep Kogashi?" looks over to him, but surprisingly...
"Zzzz...." Taylin looked over to Yosha, in the same state.
"Guess it's just me left." she lays down on an empty futon and slowly closes her eyes.
**DREAM**
Taylin hears painful screams, and sees lots of blood. She hears a voice "Here blood tastes good. I wonder how yours will taste..."
**END DREAM**
Taylin quickly opens her eyes and gasps. "Damnit...they're starting..." she whispers to herself. She then sits up and looks outside the window. "No rest for the wicked." She continues to look outside, while the sounds of snoring were in the background. "How can they sleep so heavily?" she says to herself.
"So you want to kill us then, do you?" Taylin turns around and sees Yosha standing behind her.
"What do you mean?!"
"I heard you talk in your sleep. You said 'her blood tastes so good. I wonder how yours will taste' "
Taylin looked down. "Oh...that. Ukaran...he said that...to me...I didn't mean to disturb you..."
Inuyasha took a seat next to her. "Meh. I was awake for a bit anyways. Maybe Jatar is right, maybe that curse was meant to get you in the end." Taylin gave him an agitated look.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence."
"You have to face the facts." he simply stated, as if it this entire situation they were in was simple.
"Unfortunately, yes. But i will beat this curse...even if I die trying." Taylin looked over to Yosha. "What brought you all the way over here? It can't be because of my company." she gave him one of her teasing smiles. Yosha remained silent.
"Is something wrong, Yosha?" she asked worriedly.
"No..." Yosha knew she wouldn't be convinced by his answer. His voice could tell all.
"Are you sure? I'm a good listener."
"It's just that...I don't need to lose another friend." Yosha looked at Taylin with sympathy for her.
"You...consider me a friend?" she blinked in confusion. Yosha nodded.
"I've already lost one and she hates me now."
"I see, well I don't plan to go anywhere, but I can't make an guarantees." Taylin stretched a bit. "You should get some rest." Taylin waited for an answer but received none. She turned to Yosha and noticed a solemn look on his face. She lifts his chin up to see his face. "Yosha?"
"Hmm?"
"Don't be so quiet! It's not normal for you!" she giggled, causing Yosha to give her a warm smile. "Go on. Sleep." Yosha nods and goes back to his place where he was lying down.
"Sleep well, Tay. No more bad dreams or I'll have to beat you into unconsciousness."
Taylin mulled over his statement. "I actually like that idea..." Yosha blinked in confusion. She turned to him with a shameful look on her face. "Yosha..." he sat up and looked at her.
"What is it?"
"Don't tell Jat-kun this, but sleeping isn't easy..." Yosha looks over at Jatar, who was sound asleep.
"Really? He makes it look so easy." Taylin deadpanned to her side.
"Not him...me. The nightmares...they're kind of vivid. And he warned me about them."
"Oh..."
"I'll just stay up, and keep guard." They both felt a rumble. Taylin's eyes widened in surprise.
"You may not have to."
