< br> The group ate hungrily while Taylin slept. Jatar made sure not to make any sudden movements while Taylin propped herself against his back. He couldn't help but take a look back as she began twitching in her sleep and began to mumble incoherent words.
"You gonna eat that piece?" Yosha asked, hunger in his eyes as he eyes a particular piece of deer.
"I saw it first!" Kogashi stated, and they both ensued a growling match, but was abruptly ended when Jatar reached for the piece they wanted and munched on it with a smirk.
"Too bad for you two." They both looked on in disbelief as he munched on the meat non chalantly. Jatar felt a twitch behind him and noticed that Taylin wasn't having the best of sleep behind him. 'What's with all the twitching?'
"Wh...wtf...hphfm....rtf..." Taylin's face was contorted in pain as she kept squirming behind a very confused Jatar. He stoppoed mid-chew and turned slightly, so her sleeping slumped further down. "No...rtf mrkef didi shfl..."
"Tay, what is it?" He sat her up more, but the twitching continued.
"Didi...why? Discvet mny?" Tears began to fall down her clenched eyes, which were wiped away by the worried hunter. Kogashi and Yosha looked on in wonder. She began to sob quietly in her sleep.
'She must be talking to someone.' Jatar thought to himself.
"What's wrong with her?" Yosha asked, leaving his deer meat unattended and walked over to their other two companions. Jatar looked up at him worriedly, then back down to her.
"I think she may be having some sort of nightmare." 'Come on, Tay, snap out of it...'
"ACHTK VREG DIDI!" Her outburst made the rest of them jump back a few feet, except Jatar, who was supporting her. Jatar thought that enough was enough, and couldn't let the one person he cared for continue to suffer. He gently shook her in an attempt to stop whatever was harming her mentally.
"Tay, wake up." Periwinkle eyes, still slightly glassy from her tears, blinked open sleepily and looked up at the worried face of her companions. "What's wrong, Tay? You were crying in your sleep."
She immediately looked to the side sadly. "I saw him..." Her voice was low, but luckily her comrades had superb hearing.
"Who?" Jatar looked at her in confusion, but she didn't seem to hear the question.
"He's alive..."
"You mean your father?" Taylin nodded at Jatar's question. "But how..." He sighed, knowing that with the people he met, anything was possible. "Where is he now?" He watched as Taylin stood, tears still streaming from her eyes, and walked a few feet from them with her back turned to them.
"You won't believe where..."
Kogashi stood and walkled over to the rest of the group. "Trust us, Tay, we'll believe you." She looked back at them tiredly, her nightmare draining her of what little energy she had left.
"He's the leader of those copier demons we fought earlier." All of their eyes widened in shock. After a few moments of silence, Jatar was the first to break it.
"Whoa..." She nodded and looked out into the forest.
"In my dream, I...I saw what he did. He destroyed the village after I had left. He thought the humans there betrayed my mother and I. When he returned, he found mother dead, and me missing. Saying her was angry would be an understatement."
"That's understandable. I would have suspected the villagers of that too if my family were either missing or killed." He saw Taylin wrap her arms around herself and sob quietly. He stepped towards her and placed a hand on her shoulder, letting her know she wouldn't be suffering alone.
"He killed them all...vreg nach, didi?"
"What does that mean?" He looked down at her in confusion. She looked at him and smiled sadly and wiped away her tears.
"I'm sorry, it's my ancient language. I don't think it has a name. I just said 'why father?' " She giggled softly as he tilted his head in confusion. "Don't worry about it. Just ignore me if I switch between languages."
He gave her a small smile. "I'll remember that for next time."
So the group set out after eating and dealing with inner demons. Jatar scanned the area, looking for the trail of the copier demons, and by his calculations, the trail led southwest. During their travels, they didn't come across much, not even when they camped out. It went without say that they became quickly bored, and agitated.
"We've been traveling for almost two days now! It's gotta be close." Jatar looked around in frustration. Not having a decent battle in a long time made him a bit deprived of his past time sport.
"We've been traveling southwest like you said, so it must be--" She stopped in her tracks and looked down at her necklace as it began to glow a soft blue color. "It's never done that before..." Everyone stared at the small orb wrapped in black metal vines.
"That's new..." Jatar said dumbfoundedly.
"Maybe since it belonged to my father, it's acting like a tracking thingie." She looked up at them. "Does that make sense?" Jatar smiled.
"I think you're right Tay." She blinked in response.
"I'm right? Wow, now that's new." She smiled brightly.
"You have your moments, Tay." Yosha chuckled, before getting hit playfully on his arm by her.
"Let's see where this leads us."
"Right behind ya, Tay." They followed behind her, turning left when she did in a line formation, then turning right when she directed the necklace in that direction after it began to dim towards the other direction. Jatar became worried as they traveled as he watched Taylin trip over her own feet several times. He saw the tired look on her face and went to place a hand on her shoulder, but they all stopped when they encountered a massive, grey castle. She stumbled before she stopped and yawned again.
"Looks like we're here. That's a huge castle." She stifled another yawn before feeling a gentle hand on her shoulder. She looked up and saw the worry on Jatar's face.
"Tay? Why are you stumbling?"
She smiled gently at him. "I'm just tired, is all, Jat-kun." Yosha crossed his arms behind him.
"I don't know, you haven't been getting that much sleep since...you've used that sword..." Kogashi looked away and remained silent after Yosha made his comment. She turned to him and gave him a sheepish smile.
"There's no rest for the wicked, you know." She looked out of the corner of and saw Jatar's slumped down in guilt.
"...and all because of me..." She merely smiled warmly at him and lifted his head up with a gentle finger.
"No, Jat-kun. That's not true, so no more self-blaming, okay?" He returned her gentle smile with one of his own.
"Okay." 'For you anyway...' he thought to himself. He watched as she yawned and rubbed her tired eyes.
"I can barely keep my eyes open." Yosha crosses his arms as he stood to the side of her.
"You kind of need them open to fight, unless you can fight with them closed." She shook her head, then felt herself being lifted off the ground.
She blinked and looked down at a mop of blonde hair and realized she was on Jatar's back. "Wh-what--"
He looked back at her with a gentle smile. "You're tired, so sleep why don't ya. I need the exercise anyway." She nodded in understanding and closed her eyes and let her tiredness take over her. 'Sweet dreams Tay.'
"She must have been really tired to fall asleep so quickly." Kogashi stated. Jatar just nodded in response.
"Are we gonna just storm the castle?" Jatar looked back to Yosha and thought about his question.
"Don't know..."
"No doubt there will be more of those copier demons..." Kogashi added.
"We could, but...I know for a fact that I would kill them all, and then we couldn't question them." They both raised their eyes at his answer.
"Like that's a bad thing? If we kill them all, then that just leaves her father to deal with, right?"
Yosha nudged Jatar's arm playfully. "Which means lots of skulls to collect!"
"No, I mean I would kill all of them..." Kogashi blinked, realizing what he meant.
"You mean...even..." Jatar nodded.
Yosha remained silent for a moment. "You don't have to kill him off, too. Just leave him for last." Jatar gave him a skeptical look.
"I'll try, but I won't make any promises." He took a look at his sleeping passenger. "Should we wake her?"
"I think we should let her sleep." Yosha stated. Kogashi gave him a surprised look.
"She'll be mad that we didn't include her in the action." Yosha looked at him.
"You saw how tired she was. She couldn't even walk straight." Yosha turned his gaze from Kogashi to Jatar. "And you know how much she worries about you." He rolles his eyes at his statement. "Don't know why, you can take care of yourself."
"But--"
"Let's stop arguing. We can decide what to do when we reach the castle." They both nodded at his suggestion and continued.
They continued to walk to the castle, with Tay piggy backed on Jatar. Jatar placed her gently onto the ground and looked at the castle.
"We can't leave her here by herself." Eyes diverted their attention to Kogashi.
"He's right. I don't feel comfortable leaving her here by herself." Yosha added.
Jatar scratched his head in thought. "I can cloak her."
"But what if someone manages to find her?" Kogashi asked. Jatar narrowed his eyes.
"Then we have some serious ass kicking to do. And besides, only another hunter with the same technology I have can see her." They both still gave him a skeptical look, which alerted Jatar that they weren't easily convinced. An evil smirk came across his features. "I have an idea." Yosha and Kogashi looked at Jatar fearfully.
"I don't like that look..." Yosha even began backing up little by little. Suddenly he transformed and pressed a hidden button on his mask and began talking to someone. "Who are you talking to?" Jatar ignored the question and continued his conversation.
"...roger that." He released the button and turned back to the dog demons.
"Roger what now?" Kogashi was beyond confused at the moment. Jatar simply looked up at the sky. "Hey! What did you just do?" Kogashi directed his gaze to where Jatar was looking. Yosha followed suit. They dog demons stared in wonder as a small pod with a parachute attached to it began to float from the sky towards them.
Taylin stirred a bit. "....cookies...zzzz...." A small smile covered her face before becoming still once again.
"What the hell is that?!" Kogashi punched Yosha on his arm. Taylin stirred once again before falling still, only her chest rising and falling signaling her breathing.
"Quiet mutt!" He whispered harshly to Yosha. The pod landed gently next to Taylin and began to open on its own. A hunter/predator, much like Jatar, stepped out, outfitted in celtic styled armor. He glared at Yosha and Kogashi and immediately extended his claws. Yosha squeaked while Kogashi went wide eyed in fear. Both backed away when the claws were fully extended.
"J-Jatar..." Yosha looked at Jatar through the corner of his eye.
Jatar raised his eyebrow at him. "What?" He then looked over at the encroaching hunter. "Stop." The new ally stopped in his tracks and retracted his claws. They both let out a sigh of relief.
"I'm guessing he's here to protect Tay?" Yosha still kepy his eyes on their new ally.
"Please say yes." Kogashi stood in his spot, not daring to move an inch. Jatar nodded and walked over to the new comer and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"This is Gore. He's here to protect Tay and help us if we need it. But for now, he's just here for her protection. He thought you were trying to attack her, which is why he got so aggressive." Gore nodded silently.
"I feel better now. I guess we can head inside now." Kogashi stated.
"Yeah. Kogashi, you take the left side. Yosha, you take the right. I'll deal with the father." Underneath his mask, a smirk played on his face. By his tone of voice, the rest of them could tell Jatar was ready for a bit of sparring.
Taylin remained asleep, oblivious to the battle that would take place.
