You Told Me

 

You told me you

Cried

And I asked You

What Happened

You told you
Died
And I asked you
The same thing
All over again
Nothing ever new

Same old thing

The air is suddenly so thin as
I hear the phone ring

It's dry

My throat has clenched tight
And my voice

Maybe it won't work tonight

But luck is set against me
'Please let me cut”

You tell me 'once more

Then I'll stop for sure'

I don't want to hear you

Say

'I stopped

For thirty days

A month is too long

I've got to start over
or I'm gone'

'Stopping'

An end it lacks

Because it never begins
But still you crack
Over the phone
You cry
And every time you say

'I want to die'
