An hour later we were sitting in my living room. Ken was sitting on the leather couch stretched out and relaxed. He was wearing a long-sleeved buttoned shirt that was the color of burgundy. His shirt was unbuttoned from the top to mid-chest. His black leather pants were pulled tight on his legs, allowing me to see every curve of his lower body. His shoes had long ago been taken off and now all he wore was his black socks. Ken's bangs fell in his face hiding it from the rest of his deep burgundy colored hair. His face contained the trademark stubble and I remembered back to the days when he used to actually be clean shaven. But those were the days when we were just starting out and we weren't really called “rockers”. The large cross he wore around his neck was drawing my attention to his revealed chest. He had his head resting on his suit jacket that he had stripped off earlier and his eyes stayed closed, as if he were creating more lyrics.
I couldn't control my thoughts. All I could keep thinking was how good he looked in those pants and how good he'd look out of them. I shook my head ridding myself of these thoughts.
“Do you want anything to drink?” I found myself asking, shifting my gaze to Ken's face.
Ken opened his eyes and looked at me with a blank stare. Then his deep brown eyes focused on me and took to mind what I said. Finally he changed positions on the couch from laying down to sitting up, looking even sexier if possible.
“Yeah,” He let out a huge yawn. I felt sorry for him. I suddenly remembered that he hadn't had any sleep all night. No wonder he sounded tired when I called him at three.
“You know you can take a shower or something to wake yourself up,” I offered, trying to not sound conspicuous about my intentions. If I could catch one sight of Ken and all his glory… no, I dare not think of that.
“You're right, Hyde. I think I'll get a shower and take a nap before the show if that's cool with you?” He gave me a questioning look.
“Yeah. If you want, you can borrow some of my clothes and sleep in the guest room,” I smiled even though I was a little disappointed. I knew Ken wouldn't want me to see him nude. He stood up and headed to the bathroom. Soon I heard the water and saw steam coming from underneath the door.
I sighed and decided to make some tea to help me relax. I filled a mug with steaming water and let the teabag soak in the water. I sat down on the counter and stared at the wall trying to figure out how to get Ken to see what I felt for him. Soon my tea was done, so I grabbed my mug of tea and sat down in the oversized arm-chair in the living room. I let the steam from my tea relax me until everything around me became tranquil. I spotted a sheet of music on the floor and underneath it was a sheet of lyrics in Ken's messy handwriting. I walked over, picked it up, and read through it once. A voice startled me and I looked up to see Ken standing in a towel, his hair wet and stuck to the side of his head. I took a second to calm my breathing and my heart beat.
“So what do you think of my new song?” He asked walking into the living room, staying a few feet away from me. The fact that he didn't want to be near me was really disappointing.
I looked back down at the lyrics sheet I held in my hand. I suddenly remembered his question he asked. I had to answer him.
“It totally rocks, man!” I answered. “I really loved the lines that said: `Don't be shy, show your love! Show your love! That was my favorite line.” I stepped a little closer to Ken. I could feel a blush rising to my cheeks.
“Uh…I think I better get dressed,” He said turning, but not too quickly for me to catch the blush on his tanned skin.
I heard my cell phone ring in the kitchen. I went in, flipped it open, and was instantly greeted by the voice of another one of my friends, Tetsu. Tetsu plays bass guitar in our band called L'Arc~en~Ciel. The band consisted of me, Ken, Tetsu, and another one of our friends, Yukihiro.
“Where the hell is Ken?” I could tell that he was almost to the point of throwing a hysterical fit.
“Calm down, Tetsu! Ken is here with me. We were writing some new songs that we were going to run by you guys later,” I said rolling my eyes at how upset Tetsu could get at times. Of course everyone expected it from Tetsu, since he was the “mother” figure of L'Arc~en~Ciel.
I heard him breathe and then he replied, “Thank God he's with you. I called around and couldn't find him and-”
“Tetsu,” I sighed, “get to the point.”
“Huh? Sorry, Hyde. I just wanted to let you and him know that the show has been changed from ten to eleven. So just show up at ten so we can get set up and have sound checks,” Tetsu informed me while talking a mile a minute.
“Thanks, Tetsu. We'll see you and Yuki tonight,” I said and then hung up. It was going to be a long day since the concert was moved back to eleven.
I headed into the hallway to see that Ken had left the guest room door closed. I assumed that he was taking a nap, so I decided that I would head to my room and rest too. I lay down on the comforter and gazed at my walls that were covered in rock band posters, posters of our own band, and some family pictures. My gaze moved from the walls to my nightstand and I saw a picture that was taken a long time ago, back when Ken and I were extremely close and spent almost every hour of the waking day together. In the picture Ken and I had our guitars, strap over shoulders, and we were doing an imitation of how one of our songs would look while we played it. Just when the picture was about to be taken Ken and I decided to make stupid faces, and the outcome was that I had my tongue half out of my mouth while Ken had one hand off of the guitar in a “rock on” motion. Every time I saw that picture, I had to smile. Soon I fell asleep to that image in my mind.
