5: The Fall of a Hero
The sky suddenly clouded over and a thunder storm began. Draco looked out at the sky. Lupus and Tigris stood next to him.
“And so it begins,” Draco said disappear laced in his voice.
“Why do you say that?” Devin asked standing up.
“He's awake.”
“Who is he?” Starfire asked.
Tigris spoke for the first time to the Titans, “Serpentarius, the essence of Hate.”
In the large building the figure's aura completely vanished. He was dressed in crimson boots. His baggy crimson pants where tucked into his boots. His crimson short-sleeve shirt was tucked into his pants. Black holsters where attached to his thighs. These he slid his knives into. His thin eyes where black and wicked. His black hair hung in his eyes. His long thin face gave him a snake like appearance.
He smiled and hissed, “So it's begun again has it?”
Hydra nodded and said, “Shall we go then?”
Serpentarius began laughing. All three of them left the building. They soon reached Titans Tower. Hydra punched through the door and ripped it off its hinges. The Titans rushed to the door. The three walked past the Titans.
“Stay out of this,” Draco said, “If any of you are honorable, you will do as I ask.”
The Titans tried to rush forward but Devin stopped them. They all just watched as the three faced the other three. The six paired off. Draco and Hydra, Tigris and Leo, Lupus and Serpentarius. Hydra began spinning the weighted end of his chain. Suddenly he threw the blade end. The blade cut into Draco's right shoulder. Instead of pulling it out Draco grabbed the chain and yanked. Hydra was pulled through the air toward Draco.
Draco brought his sword forward trying to slice Hydra in half. Hydra blocked with his chain. The force of Draco's attack threw Hydra away. Hydra and Draco both kept hold of the chain. Hydra ran at Draco. Draco tried to cut through Hydra again. This time Hydra jumped into the air. When Hydra came down He made sure to kick the sickle. Draco hit the ground his shoulder was cut completely open. Hydra turned to the Titans and was skewered. Hydra looked at his gut and saw Draco's sword sticking through it.
Tigris pulled out her chain. She spun the clawed end around. She threw it at Leo who dodged. Leo rushed at Tigris. Tigris pulled on her chain and almost hit Leo in the head. Leo heard the claws whistling through the air and ducked to avoid them. She threw a punch at Tigris. Tigris brought her chain up and caught Leo's claws in the links. Tigris twisted forcing Leo's arm back. Tigris then brought her chain around Leo's neck and began pulling. Leo clawed at her neck trying to get the chain to loosen. Lupus and Serpentarius slowly circled each other.
“You know you can't beat me Loyalty,” Serpens hissed.
Lupus smiled, “You'd be surprised Hate.”
Lupus pulled an arrow out of his quiver and pulled it back. He released it and watched it fly. Serpentarius smiled as the arrow came closer. In a blur of speed Serpentarius pulled out both of his knives and turned the arrow into dust. Serpentarius looked back at Lupus and was hit but a ball of fire. Serpentarius was scorched from the blast. He glared at Lupus who just smiled and readied another arrow.
Draco and Hydra had separated. Both were holding open wounds. Hydra threw his sickle again. Draco tried to dodge but his side was cut open by the blade. Draco spun in mid-air becoming a black tornado. A blade of air suddenly flew at Hydra. Hydra was caught completely by surprise and couldn't avoid the attack as it sliced into his arm. Hydra's sickle and Draco's Katana disappeared and the two rushed each other. Both began punching each other with as much force as they could.
As the Titans watched the two, they were amazed at what they saw.
Beast boy whispered, “How can they do that?”
“Their skin,” Devin said.
“Huh?” Raven queried.
“Their skin is like armor. They'll come out of this slugfest with bad bruises but little else.”
Tigris pulled tighter as Leo began turning blue. Leo brought her arm up then back elbowing Tigris in the gut. The blow knocked the wind out of her. Leo collapsed and began gasping for air. Tigris did the same. Both girls recovered quickly and continued their fight. Their weapons had been dropped when they'd began trying to breath. Their fight was far more graceful then Draco and Hydra's. But at the same time it was far more vicious.
Lupus had managed to get an arrow into Serpentarius' shoulder. However, the blow hadn't even slowed him down. Serpentarius had closed in on Lupus more then once. Lupus had blocked Serpentarius’ attack but just barely with his bow. Serpentarius rushed Lupus, this time Lupus jumped into the air and flipped. Mid-flip Lupus had an arrow ready the fire, only his target had disappeared.
“Looking for something,” a voice hissed behind him.
Lupus looked over his shoulder and saw Serpentarius right behind him. Serpentaris brought a knife back and drove it into Lupus' shoulder. Lupus cried out in pain then hit the ground and cried out again.
Draco punched Hydra in the gut then kneed him in the face. Hydra went to his knees. Leo swept Tigris' legs out from under her. Then kicked her in the face. She watched as Hydra went to his knees and rushed to him before he fell.
“Damn!” Robin swore then rushed for Serpentarius pulling out his Bo Staff.
“Robin! No!” Devin shouted following after his team mate.
Draco walked toward Serpentarius ignoring Leo. Draco watched in horror as Serpentarius began casting a spell. Draco knew the spell wasn't meant for him, but for Robin and Devin.
No! They may be our last hope, Draco thought as he rushed for Robin and Devin.
Robin thought that he was going to catch Serpentarius off guard. Serpentarius snapped his arm toward Robin and Devin.
Robin heard Serpentarius utter, “Serpent Strike.” The next thing Robin knew there was a hand on his face. He looked past it and saw Draco standing over them bleeding profusely.
“Corvus. Pheonix,” Draco said standing up.
A ball of energy formed in Serpentarius’ hand. The ball went flying at Draco. There was a flash of light and Draco felt his body being lifted into the air. He smiled before everything went black. The Titans watched in horror as the light from the attack faded. Draco's body lay in the middle of a shallow crater, smoldering. Next to him Robin and Devin lay bleeding. Devin stood and slowly changed. His eyes began glowing red. His hands grew claws. His canine's became fangs. Devin rushed at Serpentarius. Serpentarius looked and saw Devin running at him.
“You just won't die,” He hissed anger clearly written on his face.
Serpentarius launched a barrage of air blades. They all cut through Devin but the wounds
closed. Serpentarius was caught off guard. He felt a strong grip on his throat and saw Devin holding him.
“Now you die,” Devin growled as a black ball appeared in his hand, “Black Hole!”
Devin slammed the ball into Serpentarius’ face. The ball explode into a mushroom cloud. Devin appeared behind the Titans his eyes glowing red.
