9: Return from the Shadows
“Hello Hate. What do you think of the new me?” Crow asked with a smile.
“Still nothing but a weak demon,” Serpentarius hissed.
“We’ll see about that won’t we?”
Serpentarius pulled out his knives. Crow made his scythe appear. Both showed off a little. Serpentarius and Crow both took fighting stances. Crow put the top of his scythe on the ground and smiled. His scythe was up in a second. The speed made a blade of air that went shooting toward Serpentarius. Serpentarius dodged easily and lunged at Crow. Crow brought his scythe down making Serpentarius jump back.
“Love is a powerful thing Hate. You won’t beat me,“ Crow smiled.
Lupus released the arrow and watched as it flew through the air. At the last second Hydra dodged the arrow. Hydra spun and threw the blade end of his sickle. The blade became stuck in Lupus’ bow. Hydra sprouted a pair of green wings as a green aura surrounded him and he slowly lifted Lupus’ into the air.
“Wow. He’s a dragon too,” Beast boy was in awe.
“Beast boy if I ever here you call Greed a dragon again,” Draco growled picking Beast boy up with his good arm, “I’ll make sure more then your arms are useless.”
Beast boy didn’t say another word. Inside his head Robin was fighting a battle of his own. Across from him stood the dark version of himself, Black Phoenix. On his right stood Red X and on his left stood a person that he couldn’t make out.
“The time has come for you to make a choice Robin,” a voice behind him said.
Robin turned and saw himself standing there.
“I don’t understand. What’s all this about?” Robin asked.
“You haven’t figured it out? I’m shocked at your incompetence Robin,” Slade said stepping into view.
Robin reached for his Bo Staff.
“Now, now. What good would that do? We’re in your mind after all,” Slade said.
“So what’s this choice I have to make?” Robin asked.
“Have a look. There are four people in your mind. Black Phoenix, Red X, Robin, and Phoenix. You’ll have to make a choice, Dick. Two ways lead to me, the other two to Starfire. But each of the two has a different outcome. If you choose Black Phoenix you’ll become like me and destroy Jump City. If you choose Red X you’ll become like me, and the world will be destroyed. If you choose Phoenix then You’ll save the world, but you’ll live forever. If you choose Robin, then the world is destroyed.”
“How can I make that kind of choice?”
“Oh yes. There’s one more thing. If you choose Phoenix or Robin you won’t be able to kill me.”
With that Slade disappeared. Robin was left inside his mind with his four choices.
As Robin looked at his four alter-egos her thought, If I make no choice then everything is destroyed. And thereós no right answer.
Tigris threw her hook again. She’d already sliced open Leo’s cheek. Leo had been trying to return the favor. Leo dodged the hook and came running at Tigris. Tigris brought her chain over to block but Leo feinted and drove her claws into Tigris’ arm. Tigris screamed in pain and yanked her chain back. Leo was hit in the face with the dull side.
Crow and Serpentarius stared at each other. Neither had managed to get in a hit.
Serpentarius growled, Damn this boy. He’s better then he should be. So few people create anymore that he should have almost no power. Wait! He hasn’t used a single spell since the fight began. He must have incredible skill only and is using it to keep me at bay! Well I can fix that.
Serpentarius held out his hand and a ball of energy formed.
“Serpent Strike,” He said as several snakes shot out from the ball.
They went screaming at Crow. Crow smiled and spun his scythe around. The snakes were blocked by the scythe catching Serpentarius off guard. While Serpentarius was still in shock Crow lunged at him. Crow brought the blade of his scythe forward. Serpentarius looked down and saw that the blade had gone all the way through him. Crow brought the scythe up splitting Serpentarius in half. He then made a shadow katana and hacked away at Serpentarius until he was nothing but a pile of meat.
“Rest in pieces asshole,” Crow snarled.
Leo felt Serpentarius’ presence disappear. She looked at where he’d been fighting Crow and saw Crow standing over a pile of flesh. Leo felt a sharp pain in her neck then everything went dark.
“Took you long enough to die,” Tigris said collapsing.
In his mind robin looked up. He stood and looked at each of his alter-ego‘s.
“Looks like I’ve gotta say good bye to three of you. And I know which three I have to say good bye to,” He said.
He walked toward the figure on his left. The other three disappeared. In the real world Robin came to. He stood up and looked at Starfire. He smiled and spread his wings as his aura appeared.
