3: Escape
“This gateway? What do they want with it?” Robin asked.
“That’s the trick. They can appear in this world, but only by possessing bodies. The bodies have to be alive. That limits their power. If they can find the gateway then they can get to this world without a lose in their power,” Draco said calmly.
“Let me guess. The only way you know to find this gateway is to let them get to it and come through,” Crow said smiling.
“You got a better idea?” Draco smiled.
“Nope. We’ll get a good fight at any rate.”
“What if this gateway wasn’t a thing, but a person?” Raven asked.
“Raven you’re not suggesting…” Crow couldn’t finish.
“If another demon found a way to use me the way my father did, then they could get to Earth and destroy it,” Raven gripped her cape tightly and began crying.
“Shit!” Draco shouted, “This changes things. Damn, damn, damn. Now what am I supposed to do?”
Everyone stood around acquired as Raven cried into Crow’s shoulder. Crow himself didn’t know what to do. He’d faced down death, and some of the strongest demons, but this was something else entirely. Then it came to him.
“Azurath,” he said awe creeping into his voice.
“What?” everyone asked.
“Raven birth place. Any demon that can set foot in there would have an army of sorcerers and magicians to deal with, not to mention us,” he said the last part smiling at Draco and Robin.
“I say we go for it,” Beast Boy said.
“I agree with Beast Boy. We must take Raven there immediately,” Starfire smiled.
“Great. Peaceville. At least the food is good,” Draco stood shaking his head, “We leave tomorrow. Pack some clothes, get a goodnights sleep, and most importantly don’t worry,”
Draco said heading towards the front door.
Raven and Crow both couldn’t sleep. While Raven was worrying about being used as a gateway for yet another force bent on trying to destroy the world, Crow was worrying about meeting Raven’s mother. Would she approve of him or not? And could Azurath really help them? Finally both drifted off to sleep.
They awoke to banging on the door and Draco’s voice, “Hey wake up. It’s time to get going. WAKE UP DAMN IT!”
Both of them couldn’t help but laugh at Draco. When they were ready to go the came out and Draco glared at them.
“It’s about damn time. What you have done if I was one of those guys trying to get in?” Draco asked.
“Let me think about that one,” Crow pante-mimed thinking then said, “Kicked your ass?”
Draco smiled menacingly, “You looking for a beating, boy.”
“Only if you’re ready to be the one taking the beating, old man,” Crow smiled back.
“boys,” raven interjecting.
Both young men huffed and walked into the living room. Their they saw a large ring wrapped in paper sheet.
“It’s a portal. In case you couldn’t tell,” Draco said, “It’s rigged to drop us into Azurath. All we need is a massive outpouring of energy. Then It’ll open. It won’t stay open for long though so we’ve got to move fast. Everyone read?”
With a nod Draco walked up to the ring. It reached from the floor all the way to the ceiling of the living room. Draco put his hands, fingers spread, and began pouring energy into the center of the ring. When he finally stopped he stepped back sighed and motioned for everyone to enter. Once everyone was inside there was a flash of light. when the light faded everyone was on the floor of the Titans’ Tower living room.
“What the hell?” Draco shouted.
“Now you didn’t honestly think I’d let you leave did you? After all how are we supposed to use the gateway if you move to a place where it won’t work? Now be good children and hand her over,” the Puppet Master said holding out his hand.
With the light of day the Titans could see the Puppet Master’s outfit. He was dressed in a suit with riding boots. The black suit’s coat was a long black trench coat. His eyes were red and his hair was a dark red.
“You want it then here!” Draco shouted leaping into the air.
Draco brought his sword down trying to cleave the Puppet Master in half. The Puppet master simply lifted his arm and blocked the attack.
He looked up and scowled at Draco, “Such a weakling. You are the strongest Angel? Pathetic.”
With that the Puppet Master swept his arm and threw Draco through a nearby window and outside into the air.
“He took down Draco like he was nothing. And he’s not even at full power,” Crow looked on in awe as the Puppet Master walked towards him.
The Puppet Master reached Raven and picked her up. He turned and saw Draco standing in the window he’d been thrown through. His right arm was bleeding and his breathing was labored.
“Still among the living? I must say I’m impressed. But I felt your right arm shatter when I struck you. My advise? Go back to heaven where you belong. This world is going to hell in a hand basket and no one gives a damn! Just let us…” The Puppet master started.
“Kiss me ass. In all honesty I don’t really give a damn about honor at this point. I just want to see you dead at all cost. Even if I have to die to see it done!” Draco rushed the Puppet Master and tried to run him through.
“Please,” the Puppet Master grabbed the blade with his free hand, “You’re so weak I only need one hand to beat you. Now leave my sight, you commoner.”
With little more then a flick Draco was thrown against the wall. Draco coughed up a little blood as the Puppet master suddenly appeared with his foot slowly crushing Draco’s chest. The Puppet master then kicked Draco aside and disappeared. Only now with their enemy gone could anyone find that they could move.
“What the fuck was that!” Crow shouted, “I couldn’t even fucking move. What the fuck!”
“Crow shut up. Draco’s in trouble!” Cyborg shouted rushing to Draco.
With Help from Crow’s shadow powers they were able to get Draco to the infirmary and begin bandaging him up. When they were done Draco looked like a mummy. His entire torso and his right arm were bandaged. Parts of his legs and his left hand were wrapped beyond that there wasn’t much they could do. Draco had lost consciousness and seemed to refuse to wake up. Later that night everyone sat around the table.
“So what do we do now?” Beast Boy asked.
“I don’t know. That guy took down Draco like he was nothing. We all know how strong Draco is. What bothers me Is why none of us could get our bodies to move?” Crow said, but his voice was distant.
