4: An Unexpected Guest

Raven's meditation was interrupted by a presence, a dark, powerful presence. She pulled out her communicator and said, “Someone is in the tower.”

They all went to the TV room where Raven said, “Who ever it is in my room.”

“Let's get going then. This guy got in here without setting of any alarms so he must be good,” Beast Boy said making a fist.

They all headed to Raven's room. When they got to her door she turned to them, “Wait here.”

She opened her door just enough to slip inside. She looked around and saw something moving. She let her mind's eye see what it was and saw him sitting there leaning against her bed. He wasn't drawing anything in blood he was just sitting there with the shadows crawling around him.

She took a step back and bumped into her dresser. His eyes opened slowly and she saw them glow red. He walked toward her slowly, too slowly. Something was wrong with him she could tell that. She put a force field around him and lifted him into the air.

She opened her door and he floated out with the shadows falling away. When he was pinned against the wall across from her room, the shadows were completely gone, and they were able to see the wounds that covered his body.

“We should get him tied down before he recovers,” Cyborg said as he walked toward the Infirmary.

When they got to the Infirmary he was strapped to a table and Cyborg ran a diagnostic on him.

“He's not doing to good. He's bleeding internally and has several broken bones,” Cyborg said shaking his head.

He groaned and opened his eyes slightly before closing them tight.

“Turn of those damn lights,” He all but shouted

“Why should we?” Robin said leaning over him.

“I have no reason to kill you people. My contract with Slade is absolved.”

“How do we know that?”

“Slade just tried to kill me. You'll see it on the news tomorrow. Now will you turn those damn lights off? I have to be able to touch the shadows or I can't use them.”

“Alright,” Robin turned the lights over his head off causing him to relax and open his eyes revealing the dark brown.

He scanned their faces one by one. When he reached Raven, they locked eyes making her blush slightly. The lights flickered off.

He leaned back and sighed before saying, “Mind getting rid of these restraints? I'm starting to loose the felling in my lower extremities.”

Cyborg looked to Robin, who nodded, and pushed a button and the restraints opened. He sat up and rubbed is wrists, before swinging his legs over the side and hopping off.

He held out his hand to Robin and said, “We kind of got off on the wrong foot last time. My name is Devin Crow. Most people just call me Crow.”

Robin raised an eyebrow at this and said, “Crow? How did you get that name?”

He smiled and chuckled, “I gave it to myself. My mom gave me up as soon as I was born
but I keep a picture of her anyway. I understand why she did it.”

“Why then?”

“She was an angel. I don't mean figuratively, I mean a real angel. Halo, wings, everything.
The guy that got her pregnant was a demon so I'm half demon. That's why she gave me up. If she'd tried to take me to Heaven I would have been sent to Hell.” He shrugged.

He walked around Robin toward Raven. She recoiled and Starfire jumped in-between them.

He smiled and said, “Relax. I'm not going to try and kill her.”

“Then why do you want to get close to her?” Starfire asked an uncharacteristic coldness in her voice.

“Private thing.”

Starfire moved aside but just enough for him to lean close to Raven's ear.

He took a deep breath then chuckled slightly, “I knew it. Your mating cycle has started as well.”

His breath on her ear sent a shiver down her spine. He stood straight up again with and ear to ear smile on his face which quickly turned to a grimace.

“Shit.”

He collapsed onto the floor. Cyborg lifted him into the bed and started to bandage him. When he got all the wounds that weren't covered by the coat, which he had removed, he turned to them and said, “I really think the girl should leave so I can finish”

“Relax tin man. There's nothing wrong with my legs.”

“Okay,” Cyborg helped him sit up and he pulled off his shirt. He wasn't Anorexic skinny but anyone could count his ribs.

“Have you been eating at all?” Cyborg asked shocked at his state.

“Yeah. This is just the way I am. Now will you finish patching me up?”

Cyborg just shrugged and continued to wrap him in bandages. “We're gonna' have to put a cast on you.”

“Don't bother just turn off more of the lights and I can make one.”

Robin narrowed his eyes but turned some of the lights out anyway. As soon as a shadow was touching Devin, it spread over him to all his broken bones. There were several sickening pops and the shadows stopped moving.

“What was that?” beast boy said looking like he was about to throw up.

“I had to set the bones dumb ass,” Devin answered obviously irritated.

Starfire looked confused at Devin's words.

“I do not know this word dumb, ass? What does it mean?”

Robin stepped in glaring at Devin, “It's an insult that you don't want to know the meaning of.”

“No more mean talking then,” Starfire said making Devin open an eye and arch an eyebrow.

“Okay. I'm going to hook you up to some pain killers,” Cyborg pulled an IV over to him. Devin's eyes snapped open and he shouted, “No! No needles.”

“Then how are we going to dull the pain.”

“Get into my duffel bag. There should be a bottle. Bring it to me.”

“I'll get it. It should still be in my room,” Raven said as she walked out of the infirmary and to her room.

She found his duffel bag went through it until she found the bottle. She pulled I out and brought it with her back to the Infirmary. She handed him the bottle.

He held it out to Robin and said, “Mind giving me a hand bird boy?”

Robin pulled the cork out of the bottle. He put the bottle to his lips and tipped the bottom up to drink. He brought the bottle to his side and sighed. He held the bottle out to Raven.

“Care for a taste?”

“What is it?” Raven asked taking the bottle timidly.

“It's called Ogre's Bane. It's booze from the demon world, so I would advise no humans drink it,” Raven took a sip of it and start coughing.

Devin started laughing; “I did the same thing first time I had it. Granted I had a shot of it.”

Raven put the bottle back in his hand and he drank again. He soon fell asleep and the Teen Titans left him to heal. They went to the TV room to talk about what should be done about him.

“We should keep a close eye on him. Raven do you have that duffel bag of his?” Robin was obviously suspicious of him.

“There's nothing much in there. He has seven pairs of what he's wearing now. A copy of the coat he's wearing now, and another that looks normal. There's a plastic bag with about 50,000 dollars in it,” at this Beast Boy whistled, “There are six gun clips, each holds around 15 bullets. Other then that bottle there is nothing else.”

“Think that cash is stolen?” Beast Boy asked looking at Robin.

“I doubt it. He's an assassin and a good one. He almost killed us. If he hadn't talked so much he would have been able to kill at least you and Cyborg,“ Robin put his hand on his chin and went over things in his mind. Why would Slade try to kill him? Why has he been moving around so much? And why did he become an assassin? Robin thought.

Of course he couldn't answer any of them. The only person that could answer them was lying in the infirmary asleep. They all kept talking about Devin until they decided that they had best go to bed. Over the next week, they didn't have much action, but one day Plasmus was reported to be rampaging through the city drinking all the sewage he could. The Titan's went out and took care of Plasmus, but when they got back, they found Devin sitting on the couch watching TV.

He turned around and smiled at them, “Hope you don't mind. I woke up not to long ago and found nobody here so I decided to watch TV till you guys got back.”

Beast Boy jumped over the back of the coach shouting, “Dude I love this show!”

Cyborg walked around the couch and sat down. The three of them sat there watching TV for several hours. After that Devin got up and went to find Robin. He found him training so he just leaned against the wall and waited for Robin to notice him.

When Robin did notice him he asked, “What do you want?”

“Hey now. You don't have to bristle like that. I just thought you'd like to play a game is all?”

“What kind of Game?” Robin asked narrowing his eyes.

“Now, now. It's nothing like that, its called Go. Ever heard of it?”

“Yeah. I used to play it sometimes with Batman.”

“Good. Then lets go play.”

The two walked to the living room were Cyborg and Beast Boy was playing videogames. Robin and Devin started playing. Soon the rest of the Titans were watching. At the end, Devin won by 10 points.

“Guess your not as good a player as I thought,” Devin said leaning back in his chair.

“How did you win?” Robin asked looking the board over.

“I grew up in Japan. Over there people play it more seriously then here.”

Devin looked over at raven and winked, “Care to play me?”

Raven just buried her face in her book to hide the pink that was spreading across her face. Some of the stones in the go bowls shattered. What's happening to me? Why am I feeling this way about him? she thought.
