Chapter Six
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Coress laughed softly, and decided to play it stupid. After all, she didn't have all the details worked out, and she figured they could provide them all this way, plus they'd be more apt to go along with something they "thought up". "We're gonna go in there and break them up!" she said in a triumphant tone.
Her friends' excited smiles turned to open-mouthed looks of disappointment. They exchanged desperate glances, none of them knowing what to say.
Lorenna, now in Kiltees's lap, looked around, and seemed to know that none of them would ever speak. Then she turned to the other girl. "Ummm... Coress?"
The raven-haired girl turned to Lorenna, her eyes filled with false excitement. "Yes?" she said, almost giddily.
"Uh...I don't mean to be rude or anything...but...ummm...how are you gonna do that?" Lorenna asked her in a meek tone.
That's Lorenna, always so kind... Coress's feigned delight turned to concern. "Oh no! I hadn't thought of that! Oh! What will I do?" Her voiced wavered skillfully.
Kiltees jumped up, unintentionally hurling Lorenna to the ground. He gave her an apologetic glance then went to Coress, swinging his arms around her and holding her tight. "Don't worry, babe. It'll be alright. Don't ya worry ya pretty little self bout it. We'll thinka somethin. Won't we guys?" He looked around at his friends, giving them a meaningful look. Coress was glad his body was there to cover her smile.
"Oh! Yeah! You don't need to worry! We got it all planned out!" Tystan lied after being jabbed violently in the ribs by his brother.
Kiltees gently removed Coress's face from her shoulder, taking it up in his hands. "See? What'd I tell ya? So come on. Ya gotta cheer up. If you don't, how ya gonna...uh...how ya gonna be...ummm...how will ya play the part of a...errr...a...a noblewoman?!" Kiltees smile was sly, and it seemed as though he was actually using his logic for once.
Coress reached up and removed her consoling friend's hands from her face, and gave him a confused stare. "A noblewoman?" Inside, her smile grew even broader. Exactly.
Kiltees grinned. "Oh yeah. That's what you're gonna be, one of the most beautiful snobs around!"
She laughed slightly. "Oh, that would be fun." But her expression turned melancholy once more, she was going to play this out fully. "Well, why? What does that have to do with anything? That's not gonna get my brother away from her."
Kiltees's eyes widened. "Well...ummm...yeah...we got that all planned out to. Yeah! Ya see...we're gonna...ah...ya'll...ummm...she'll..."
Tosorin quickly cut him off before he could do any more damage. "It's simple really, Coress. You'll go in there, pretending to be a person of high blood. You'll say you were just engaged, and that you found out from your fiancé's friend, Kiltees, that Tystan came to see her once. Then Walrona will obviously get flustered. Tystan will apologize, and she'll just get mad at him. All of her doings will become known, and Olban will leave." Seeming to have said the longest statement of his life, he instantaneously quieted afterwards.
Coress, Kiltees, and Lorenna all smiled with satisfaction, but Tystan gave his brother a look of suspicion. "Umm...correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it sounded as if I was going to be Coress's husband."
"Oh, Ty! It's just a part! Come on! I'm no that bad, am I? Besides, you're the only one who's actually been with Walrona!" Coress pleaded with her stubborn companion.
Tystan had a look of obvious agitation and he let out a deep sigh. "Fine," he muttered between pursed lips, "But I think you're forgetting something."
They all gave him a look of wonderment, not knowing what was possibly wrong. Kiltees started to ask, but Tystan cut him off before he could say a word. "How, in the name of all the gods, are you going to get her," he pointed to Coress, "to look like a noblewoman?! I mean, she wears guy's clothes! I'll bet she doesn't even own a dress, let alone one suitable enough for a well-bred woman!"
Coress gave him a hurt look, and subconsciously peered down at her ragged clothing. So that's what he thinks of me. The thought tore at her heart, but sadness quickly turned to anger. Well, I don't really care what he thinks! I'll dress anyway I damn-well please! Coress tried with all her might to wrap the thought completely around her mind, but the deepest crevice would still not comply. It still longed for his acceptance.
Lorenna spoke before Coress could, "Well, that's no problem. You're forgetting that I work in a dress shop. I can lend Coress a gorgeous gown, and I even might be able to dig up something to put on you!" The skinny blonde gave him a look of triumph, and Kiltees gathered her up in his arms, obviously proud.
Tystan glared at her, distinctly angry that he had been outdone once again. He tried to make his response as bitter as possible, "Well, you better go get them then! We don't have all day!"
Lorenna giggled and gave Kiltees a quick kiss of farewell. Then she skipped out of the barn happily, promising that she'd be back as soon as she could.
While he was gone, they worked out the minor details, so that they would all at least have an idea as to what to say. They all had their parts: Tystan was the husband, Kiltees was the friend, Tosorin was the bodyguard, and Coress was, of course, the enraged noblewoman. There was, of course, the possibility of being recognized, but they thought that if they kept a certain amount of distance, their identities would remain unknown.
Coress couldn't wait to play her part. She had a lot of animosity towards Lady Walrona, and she was going to let it all loose. There's no way I'm going to let that bitch hurt him, she vowed once more. And, yet again, the persistent little voice made a promise that she would never hurt Tystan again either. Just then, a thought popped into her mind. "Hey, I just thought of something," she said with a slightly worried tone.
"What?" Tystan asked curiously.
"I know that we said we'll try to keep our distance, but won't he still recognize me? I mean, I'm his sister. He'll know exactly what I'm up to." She bit her lip in distress.
Kiltees smiled, and responded at once. "Oh, babe, we're gonna do ya up so nice, no one will know ya."
Coress didn't take his comment into offense, since she knew he had meant it to be kind. She smiled back at him, but then frowned. "My eyes," she said plainly.
"Huh?" asked Kiltees, his bafflement clear.
"He'll know her eyes," Tosorin provided softly. He stared deeply into Coress's purple pools of sight. "Anyone would," he mumbled with heavy breath.
Kiltees wrinkled his forehead, trying to connect his thoughts. Tosorin sighed, and went on, "Who else do you know that has such violet eyes? And who else do you know that can kill with one look?" he laughed quietly. Kiltees grinned broadly, and Coress just stuck out her tongue at the pair.
"We could make her a veil of some sort," Tystan suggested.
"Yeah! I bet Lorenna'll have some cloth with her or somethin! Oh! It'll be perfect! He'll neva know! I told ya everythin would work out, babe!" Kiltees said happily, and he padded Coress's shoulder affectionately.
"Well, if that girlfriend of yours never gets here, nothin's gonna work out!" Tystan snapped irritably.
Just as he said it, Lorenna slipped in the door with a loud shuffle. Her hands were full of boxes, and a couple fell onto the floor as she entered. Coress ran over to help her, taking all the cases from the thin girl, and placing them on the table.
Lorenna smiled gratefully, and turned, so that she could address the entire group. "Umm...there are clothes for you all in there. I'd help you put them on, and everything, but I really gotta go. If I'm not back in five minutes, my mistress will have my head. Just drop these off at the shop when you're done. And make sure you ask for me! I'll get them back where they're supposed to be, and I wanna know all the gory details of what happens. Okay, I'm leavin now, bye, and good luck!" She spit everything out so fast that even Kiltees was still in a stunned state when she gave him a swift kiss goodbye.
Coress, however, had digested everything that had been said to her, so while the boys all gaped at the now empty doorway, she promptly began opening the packages. Inside the first was an outfit of beautiful make, but with bright, flashy fabric. The clothes were way too small for Tosorin, and she knew Tystan would never wear them, so that left only Kiltees. Coress turned back to her friends, who were still all staring at the door like fools. She sighed in disappointment, and gave them a moment longer, to see if any of them would come to their senses. When they didn't, she finally spoke. "Umm...would you guys mind coming here? That is, unless you have something better to do, like, I dunno, stare at the door."
They all spun around at the sound of her voice, but each had a different expression. Tystan glared at her insult, Kiltees smiled at her joke, and Tosorin gazed at, well, her. She ignored them all and went on. "Kiltees, I think this one will fit you perfectly," Coress said, holding up the outfit.
"Aw, man. Those are great! Thanks, babe! Ya know what I like!" Kiltees scurried over to her and took the garments in his arms, examining them.
Coress opened up the next box. A large pile of neatly folded clothes lay inside. All were a deep, forest green. She smiled lightly, admiring the contents. This is definitely Tosorin.
"And just my size too," Tosorin said, as if he had heard her thought. He gently took the open box from her hands, and sat down to explore the clothes.
Coress grinned at his politeness. I wish all guys were like that.
Then, to what seemed to absolutely prove Coress's inner comment, Tystan added his piece. "Where's my clothes?" he demanded. "I'm not gonna just stand here while you poke and pry at everyone else's stuff!"
Coress threw the box containing his clothes at his face. "Then take them!"
After being hit, Tystan tried to recover quickly by saying, "I will!" He attempted to casually pick the garments off the floor, but he didn't fool Coress. She stifled a laugh and reached for the last box.
When she first peeled of the lid, her eyes did not focus, for she was still chuckling over Tystan's clumsy recovery. But when they did, she could do nothing but step back in awe. Inside was a gown of the most beautiful velvet Coress had ever seen. It was a deep burgundy that shined silver in the light of the dancing fire. Just looking at the magnificence of the dress made Coress feel totally inferior.
Tosorin noticed her odd look immediately. He walked over to her, and carefully put his hand on her shoulder, as if not to startle her. She looked at him, but revealed nothing of her thoughts in her expression. Tosorin peered past her, into the package, and he too took a step back, amazed.
Kiltees was next to see his friends' bewilderment, being that Tystan was still nursing the wounds to his ego. He stepped towards them. "Hey! Whacha guys lookin at?"
They didn't reply, but simply continued to stare at the crimson wonder. Kiltees frowned, and then took another step, so that he too could look upon the box's contents.
His reaction was slightly less impressed than the other's had been. "Ooh, yeah! That's really a beaut, ain't it? You'll look great in it, babe! And I'll do your hair too, seein as I know how from my ma! Babe, ya'll be absolutely stunnin!" Kiltees grinned from the dress to Coress with genuine admiration.
All this fuss had finally torn Tystan away from his self-pity. He looked up, slightly curious, but also slightly angry. He stalked over to where the others were standing. Tystan took one look into the box and sighed disappointedly. "Oh, nice dress."
Coress glared at him, tearing her gaze from the gown for the first time. She was about to say something, but decided against it, knowing it would but futile. The boys sat down on the floor, around the fire, so that they could study their new prizes more carefully. Coress smiled as she watched them babble to each other about the superiority of one's over another, just like the little boys she remembered.
Coress quickly reminded herself that she had no time to waste and picked up her box. She took a few steps, and then realized that she had nowhere to change. She had never undressed in the barn before. It was impossible to do so; the whole barn was wide-open space. Coress thought for a moment, then began to move to a shadowed corner. If she was quiet, the boys would never even know that she was there. But a sudden though sprung to mind as she was tiptoeing over. Is that what I want? For them not to see me? That's just another one of those things that has been tearing us apart. It didn't bother them back then, why should it now? She raised her head defiantly, then a wicked smile stretched across her face. Besides, I wanna know what they think.
She straightened her shoulders proudly, and began to move to a place in front of the fire, where they would all be able to see her. I have to be fast, otherwise I'll lose their attention. She smiled once more, and stepped into the bright light of the fire.
They all stopped their squabble and immediately turned to look at Coress, hearing her footstep. She calmly put her box on the floor, and swiftly removed her old, brown tunic. The sight of a woman's undergarments sent most men into a state of weirdness, but Coress's situation was even worse. She wore all the clothes of a male, and that did not include the donning of a corset. Therefore, the three guys all saw Coress, the bare Coress.
Their reactions were slightly slowed, since they all needed time to recover from the instant shock. All three's mouths hung open, and Coress looked at them in mock surprise. "What? What is it? What's wrong?" She said it with such sincere innocence that not even an actor of the highest regard would have suspected her.
Tosorin was the first to respond. The silent giant turned a blazing red, blushing furiously. He jumped up and ran to a corner of the room, his eyes facing the wall. Tosorin pressed his hands firmly on the wood, obviously trying to keep himself from looking back.
Coress had known Tosorin would act in that way, but she had no clue about the other two. Kiltees didn't make her wait long. He burst out in laughter, doubling over. He slapped his hands over his mouth, trying to contain himself. Coress was slightly hurt by his sudden surplus of humor, and put her hand on her bare hip. She pursed her lips, awaiting his explanation.
Kiltees saw her look, and quickly averted his eyes to the ground, trying in vain to stop his incessant cackling. He tried to offer some sort of justification. "Oh my gods! .....Babe! .....Don't take this personally .....but .....I think that mighta been .....the funniest thing ......ya eva done! .....Just .....Bam! .....All of a sudden! .....Outta nowhere! .....Ooh! .....I can't stop myself!" He tried to talk in his normal fashion, but simply couldn't. Seeing it was useless to try, he rolled back and forth on the ground, just letting it all come out.
Coress frowned at his unexpected response, and turned to look at Tystan. She stood there, hand still on hip, wanting him to speak.
Tystan sat in a motionless position, his mouth still agape in surprise. Coress knew he was doing it on purpose, for the effect. She could see it in his bright blue-green eyes.
Minutes passed, and Kiltees gained some sort of composure over himself. He still kept his facing down, however, knowing well that he would erupt again if he lifted his head. So all was silent. Coress couldn't bear it. She wanted Tystan's thoughts, and she wanted them right then. She lifted one eyebrow, and looked him directly in the face. "Well?" she asked in an annoyed tone.
Kiltees glanced up towards Tystan with a curious grin. Tosorin also turned to look, although he shaded his view of the topless Coress with his large hand. They all waited for Tystan to speak.
But he didn't. He didn't say a single word in that moment of anticipation. Instead, the sly seventeen-year-old simply smiled. A smile that was filled with an enormous combination of emotion. It was teeming with surprise, cunningness, joy, amusement, and desire. Tystan did nothing more. He just smiled.
Kiltees burst into laughter again at the sight of the unusual reply, and Tosorin gave his brother a look of exasperation, turning his attention to the wall once more. Tystan didn't seem to notice their reactions, and neither did Coress. She glared at him with disgust. "What in the name of all the gods above is that supposed to mean?" she asked him furiously, placing her other hand on her hip.
This time Tystan decided to make his answer verbal. "Oh, nothing," he lied, and Coress knew it, for he still had that same grin spread across his face.
"Don't lie to me Ty!" She grabbed up her box off of the floor and began to retreat to a corner, where she could get fully dressed.
"Oh, believe me, Coress. I'm not lying when I say that you look good. I mean really good." He licked his lips suggestively.
The corners of her lips rose as she looked back at him, falsely mimicking his lustful gesture. "You think so?"
He laughed slightly. "Oh yeah." His aqua eyes turned passionate and glazed.
Coress strutted towards Tystan, and the other two friends stared at the pair, not believing their eyes. She dropped her box carelessly and bent down towards her infatuated companion.
Tystan reached out his arms and opened his lips expectantly, closing his eyes. "I want you real bad," he purred.
Coress rubbed his shoulders gently with her soft hands. He groaned happily, and strained himself forward to grab her. Coress smiled devilishly and shoved her soothing hands, sending Tystan to the floor. He scrambled about, trying to make sense of what had happened.
The raven-haired beauty smiled proudly. "Well, that's all you can do: want. You never gonna get any of this," she pointed down at her body. "Never." She laughed mockingly, then paraded to the corner, where she began to dress.
Tystan growled and jumped up, ready to run after her. But just as his feet began to move, he decided against it and sat back down. Kiltees stopped his howling, and he, along with Tosorin, looked at the irritated young man curiously.
"We better get dressed now, or we'll never make it on time," Tystan grumbled.
"Right! Okay! I'll get ta it right now!" Kiltees said happily, pulling off his tunic. He turned his expression suddenly, staring jokingly at Tystan. "Whadda ya thinka me, big boy?" he asked in a husky, female-sounding voice, puckering his lips and batting his eyes.
"I think you betta put on that damn doublet before I whop your little a**!" Tystan said it with such anger that Kiltees immediately obeyed.
He yanked on his costume, complete with shoes and a pointed little hat. The silly young man presented himself in front of the brothers, who were now also decked out in similar attire. "Whadda ya think?"
"I think we look like a buncha fools! Look at these things! These pants stick to my legs!" He pulled at the clingy fabric irritably. "I feel like I'm in women's stockings!"
"Hmmm...I wonder how you know what that feels like, Ty?" Coress's voice replied from within the shadows.
Tystan, along with the others, spun around to see where her retort had come from. He squinted at the darkness. "Oh, shut up Coress! You have no id-" He stopped short as Coress stepped into the glowing light.
The long, flowing, burgundy gown fit as if it were made just for Coress. It clung to her every womanly curve, flattering every inch of her form. It was jeweled at the low-cut neckline with sparkling diamonds and had a violet, silk band tied just below the her bust. Her long, midnight hair fell down her back in a sea of curls. Coress plucked at one of the ringlets and twisted it between her fingers. "The dress fits alright, I guess. But I have no idea what I'm gonna do with this hair!"
Kiltees grinned as he reached out a hand to touch a curl. "Oh, don't ya worry, babe. I can do it! I can fix anything! You'll be as pretty as the night sky in no time!" He ducked behind her, and started placing strands of hair atop Coress's head.
Tystan quickly hid the smile that had appeared upon his face and turned it into a scowl as he looked at Coress. He made a rude little laugh. "You're gonna need an axe to tame that bush!"
Coress pretended not to hear his comment, and Kiltees really didn't. Tosorin was the only one to take action. He took a sidelong glance at Coress, then shoved Tystan away, obviously knowing that she was watching. She smiled in approval while Tystan rubbed his pained shoulder.
So Kiltees did her hair while the other boys watched. He fastened the raven-haired girl's locks to her head with some of Lorenna's hairpins that he just happened to have with him. When he as done, he walked around to the front of Coress and admired his work. "Pretty good job I done. Ya looks like a real lady, babe," he said with a smile.
Coress grimaced at the weight of the hair, and reached up her hands to touch the pile. Kiltees smacked them down, and she frowned uncomfortably. Obviously utterly proud of himself, he led Coress to a mirror near them. It was old, one that she had found when walking in an alley one day. It was cracked in one corner and slightly dusty, but still served its purpose.
The reflection genuinely surprised Coress, and she inhaled sharply at the new sight. She recovered quickly, trying to pretend that she didn't notice any difference in her appearance, but Kiltees caught her. "Yeah! Good job, huh? Maybe I should do ladies' hair for a livin or somethin. So whadda ya think, babe?" His big, green eyes at her with the eagerness of a young child.
"Well .....I .....I think I look .....uh ......I look....." Coress stumbled for the words, not actually knowing what she thought of herself. She bit her lip, thinking her silence would hurt Kiltees's feelings.
But he filled in for her, not being disappointed at all. "Ya look great, babe! No one in this whole big world could eva tell what ya really are. No one." He beamed at her with sheer joy.
That's when Tosorin decided to offer his thoughts. "Uh, Coress? I don't mean anything by this, believe me, I really don't. But I think we might have a little problem." He stared at the floor and shuffled his feet, obviously uncomfortable talking.
Though the comment was directed at the newly made-over girl, Kiltees answered. "What? What is it? How could there possibly be a problem?" His tone was more curious than irritated. "I mean, look at her, Tosorin. She looks like a queen or somethin!"
Tosorin looked up at Coress blushing, and gave a little smile. "That she does. But she lacks only one thing. The make-up. You know, all of that fancy powder and red the noblewomen wear."
Kiltees's mouth hung open for a moment as he took the notion into his mind. Then, finally coming to the realization, he sighed heavily and slumped to the ground. He put his head into his hands, a sure sign of defeat. "Then it's all ova. We can't do it. There's no way we'll eva be able ta get our hands on that stuff on time. I'm sorry, babe. Just too many things have come up. We should just let her have Olban."
Coress turned to look at Kiltees, the worry consuming her eyes at the statement. She had been so engrossed in her new appearance that she hadn't even bothered to glance at wither of the two while they had been talking. But now she did. Her hands immediately went her face, trying to think. This can't be good. Kiltees is always the optimistic one. And now even he has abandoned the plan. I have to think of something. I can't let Olban be harmed by that pathetic excuse for a woman. She stared down at Kiltees through parted hands. And I won't let this hurt Kiltees either, he's got enough on his mind already.
Tystan let out an exasperated sigh. They all turned from their thoughts to look at the one they had all forgotten about. "Oh come on! Are you guys complete morons?"
Kiltees just sulked down further, and Tosorin shot his brother an annoyed glare. Coress wouldn't take that insult, especially if there was no reason behind it. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Tystan rolled his eyes and smiled. "You people never cease to amaze me! You get all worked up over absolutely nothing!"
The three waited a moment, expecting him to elaborate further, but he didn't. Tosorin growled uncharacteristically of his normally placid disposition. "I'm sick of these games Ty. If you know what to do, then just tell us!"
Tystan snickered at his brother's outburst, but intelligently decided not to push him further. "We had the same exact problem only a half-an-hour ago!" When all he received were blank stares, Tystan went on, "I guess you all just decided to ignore my advice." Again. Just a bunch of vacant faces. Now he became agitated. "I can't believe that you guys don't remember! When you idiots didn't know what to do about Coress's eyes, I suggested the veil. And in case you can't make the connection, it will already be covering her face, so you won't need any of that make-up crap!"
Coress's mouth fell open in realization and she shook her head. I really have been letting my emotions get in the way of my thinking today. I'm making myself look like a complete idiot in front of Ty! What am I doing? She frowned sadly, but snapped her head back up in self-horror. She had been thinking about him again! I really do have a problem! I gotta get that jerk outta my head!
Coress stared Tystan full in the face and stuck her nose up at him. "Oh, yeah. Well, thanks for reminding me."
Tystan didn't bother to hold in his laugh. "Yeah, right, whatever you say."
Coress scowled at him and snatched up one of the extra pieces of cloth that had been in her gown's box. It was a black lacy material, something that she would be able to see through, but one that no one else could unless they got too close. It was perfect. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and began trying to weave it into her hair.
Suddenly there were two hands on hers, leading them away from her head quickly. Kiltees spun her towards him and glared at her sternly, Coress was surprised by his roughness, and her eyes were wide as she searched his.
"Ya're not gonna be messin up that hair I just did. Lemme do it," he scolded. Biting his lip in thought, he began to carefully intermingle the cloth with her hair. Coress smiled at his concern over such a simple thing as her hair. She was glad that he was back to his old self; she hadn't been able to stand the thought of him surrendering to his own doubts.
When he was done, he smiled proudly down at her, and she hugged him for his grand effort. He pulled away from her after a moment and grinned widely. "Well, we betta get a move on, or we're gonna miss the whole thing!" He grasped her hand and skipped merrily out of the barn.
As Kiltees dragged her out into the cold, and the wind whipped its first sting upon her face, she could hear Tystan muttering to his little brother. "I thought it all up, and he gets the lovin! I just don't get women!" Tosorin just grunted in reply, and she heard them both gasp as the chill hit them.
Coress was kept warm, however, by the new glow from within. So he really does want me. He wants me to show what I really feel inside. For the first time, her logic said nothing and her heart led the way. Maybe I should've said thanks. Maybe I should tell him exactly how I feel. Maybe I should tell him right now!
She let go of an unaware Kiltees's hand and swiveled around to block Tystan's path, but when she did, the only one whose way she got into was Tosorin. He was staring down at the ground, and he walked right into the confused Coress. He stumbled backwards upon impact, and instinctively began to berate her. "What in the hell are you doing? You stu-"
He stopped mid-sentence, looking up to see the astonishment in Coress's violet eyes. "Oh, Coress! No .....I .....I didn't mean it ......I mean, I .....I didn't know it was you! I .....I'm so sorry ......I ......" The tall giant stumbled through his explanation, truly sorry that he had said the words that he did.
Coress just uncharacteristically smiled, and maneuvered around him, searching for Tystan. But her smile quickly and silently turned into an expression of disbelief. Later, she told herself that it should have been expected, but at that moment all she could do was stare incredulously. It had only been moments ago that she had thought he truly wanted her not just lustfully. But there he stood, decked out in his full glamour of a noble, flirting with some trashy wannabe-courtier.
Coress stopped dead in her tracks, gasping at the unexpected sight. She bit her lip hard, trying to force back the tears billowing up in her eyes. I can't break down, not now, not in front of him. Why did I ever think that he cared? He just wants a body. Not a mind, not a personality, not a soul. Why did I ever care? I hate him! I never, ever want to speak to him again!
Tosorin, who she assumed had been watching her the whole time, came up from behind her and placed his hand gently upon her shoulder. "Coress, are .....are you alright?"
Getting a hold over herself quickly, Coress sniffled only slightly, and wiped away her tears with one of her velvety sleeves, thankful more than ever for her veil. She looked Tosorin full in the face. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine. The wind just kinda stings my eyes, you know?" She knew that her faithful friend could see right through her lie, but she went on. "I better go catch up with Kiltees, he's gotta be almost outta sight by now." Than she quickly fled, appearing to be in a rush to catch up with her redhead friend.
Tosorin sighed as he looked after her, then angrily turned to his brother. Tystan was still trying to seduce the girl, and that enraged Tosorin even more. He yelled with such a bellow that even the high gods above would obey him. "Sir, your wife needs you!"
Tystan gaped at him in astonishment. The girl, obviously believing the call, immediately slapped the young romeo across the face and huffed away. Holding his hand to his swollen cheek, Tystan stormed over to his younger sibling. "Why, in all the gods' names, did you just do that?!"
"Because you deserved it, that's why," he replied with disgust, then abruptly turned and set a quick pace to catch up with the other two.
Tystan still held his face, and stood a moment, his head cocked to one side, trying to figure out what had just occurred. He shook his head in confusion. "What did I do?" he said aloud, in an angry, yet bewildered tone. Then he hurried to catch up with the others.
~~This chapter was REALLY long, so if you notice any typos please try to ignore them. Typing for that long is so draining, and after a while my brain doesn't function any more..... anyways, I tried to add some humor to this chapter, although I'm not so sure I succeeded.... I also attempted to add new dimensions to my characters, but I dunno. Oh and if you leave a comment (PLEASE!) could you tell me who your favorite character is.... I'd be really interested to know....
