Chapter Seven
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The estate of Lady Walrona was utterly magnificent. Made completely of white marble, it glowed heavenly, like a star from above. The black stone path leading up to the main gateway was edged with lavender colored flowers that were so delicate that a single touch of a fingertip made them fly off into the ocean breeze. The sun shone here like it did no other place on the island, lighting up every shadowed corner, filling the place with a sort of complete tranquility.
Coress could not help but feel blissful in this newfound euphoria, and that was a terrible emotion to have at a moment like this. "Who would think that such a beautiful place could be the home of such a repulsive whore?"
Tystan shook his head slightly as they walked on. "Believe me, once she has you, not even this can compare to her beauty."
Coress snorted at his comment as they approached the gate. Two heavily armored, thick-bodied men guarded the entrance, and they peered suspiciously at the foursome that came to a stop before them. "Do you have an appointment?" they growled in unison.
Coress, Tystan, and Tosorin all exchanged worried glances. I had never thought of this happening. What should I say? What should I do?
Her train of thought was cut off by a grand-sounding voice. "You fools!" Kiltees stepped forward with a twirl of his rainbow-colored cape. "Do you not have any idea who this fine Madame is?!"
The guards glanced at one another nervously, and one of them, the darker of the two, spoke. "No, sir. I….. we….."
"With all the people on this damned island, you would think that they could at least find some decent help!" Kiltees sounded so much unlike himself that Coress could not help but stand open-mouthed in shock. Again, she thanked the gods for her veil.
"I'm sorry sir. Go right ahead. I hope that we didn't bother you too much," the fairer stammered. He tried to move out of the group's path and open the gate at the same time, but all he ended up doing was stumbling all over himself.
"You two bulls do realize that I shall have to inform your mistress of your offensive behaviors," Kiltees announced, as he stuck his pointy little nose up in the air and pushed the two dumbfounded guards out of his way. "I should not expect to see you again upon my return to the lady's estate."
As she passed, Coress could hear the two guards gulp deeply and breathe heavily. When the men thought they were out of hearing range, they started squabbling, each blaming the other for his inability to recognize "this fine Madame."
The friends walked a bit further, and when they could finally no longer hear the two fighting guards, they all erupted with laughter.
"Did you see that?! Did you see that?!" Tystan said with an exuberant beam on his face. "I ain't never in my entire life seen anything like what I just saw!"
"Me neither! Where in the name of all the gods did that just come from?! I've never heard you speak a single formal word! Never!" Coress was totally astounded with what had just occurred, and she, along with the two brothers, stared at their redhead friend with wide eyes, searching for some sort of explanation as to what they had just witnessed.
Yet Kiltees said nothing. He didn't chatter endlessly, as was typical, nor did he act even the slightest bit proud of what he had just pulled off. Kiltees simply walked forward, seeming to not even notice his gawking friends.
"Kiltees, aren't you even going to brag?" Coress exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air dramatically. When she didn't receive any response, she became slightly frustrated. "Kiltees! Kiltees! Say something! Anything! Kiltees!"
The flame-haired jokester finally halted his pace and turned to face the group. He just stuck his nose up in the air, as he had done before. "Why, I have absolutely no idea as to what all of you are talking about!" he proclaimed in his most regal tone.
Coress, Tystan, and Tosorin all guffawed in response, and Kiltees flashed them all a boyish grin. He let them praise him some more as they strolled further.
"I just can't believe we got away with it!" Tosorin smiled genuinely and patted his friend on the back in gratitude.
"I can't believe you thought of doing that, outta nowhere. Boy, you gotta have some big balls to even try to pull that off." It was obvious that Tystan approved, just from the infrequent expression of respect on his face. Kiltees must have sensed that because he was totally serious when he thanked him.
Coress felt that since it was her brother on the line, she was obligated to show just a tad more affection than the others. She smiled gently at Kiltees, and stuck her arms out, walking towards her "savior". He returned the smile, and began to hold out his arms. They were interrupted, however, by Tosorin's warning cough.
Knowing, now, the full extent of the situation they were in, the pair abruptly spun, only to come face to face with a giant maple-wood door.
"We're here," Tosorin said in a whisper. "It's best that you don't do anything that could prove other than our story."
Coress, Kiltees, and Tystan nodded solemnly, each of them slightly afraid to go forward with their plan. None of them took a step forward, not knowing what to do next. "You know, I really think we shoulda planned this out a little more," Coress said, biting her lip with apprehension.
"Well, maybe if you kept your shirt on, we would have had the whole thing done by now," Tystan growled, glaring at her with remembrance.
"You didn't seem to mind it very much until you realized you couldn't have it, Ty," Coress retorted sharply, her eyes flaring in a purple flame.
"What was I supposed to do? Cover my eyes and act like a five-year-old? Or maybe I shoulda laughed myself to tears? I'm a man, Coress! I just acted naturally! You shouldn't have provoked me!" Tystan inched forward, showing his seriousness.
"A man? Ha! You're nothing more than a lying, sneaking little boy!" Just as Tystan had done, Coress stepped forward, proving just how much fury had been built up inside of her.
Tystan's face grew even tenser, and the muscles in his right arm flexed underneath his clothes. He raised his fist slightly. "I'll give you a little boy!"
Immediately, Tosorin was there, standing in Coress's defense, knowing full well what his older brother intended to do. He said not a word, but instead Kiltees did the talking. "Guys! Save it! Ya can use that kinda anger when we get inside, but don't bring that up again, or we're all gonna be doomed! Fight about this all you want lata! We need ta focus right now! Come on, guys! Please! Think about Olban!" His green eyes pleaded with Coress to listen.
Coress took a deep breath and smiled thankfully at Kiltees. Although Tystan externally seemed to have calmed down tremendously, his infuriation still remained in his rage-clouded eyes. His jaw was set firmly, and although he did not say a word, Coress knew he was thinking about her words as he stared off into the distance.
She innerly sighed and lowered her head in shame. Coress knew that he had a lot of other things going on in his life, and that he didn't need to be bothered by the endless criticism of some over-opinionated teenage girl. I'll just keep my mouth shut about the whole situation.
The raven-haired girl cleared her throat to speak. We have to get this over with sooner or later. "Should we go in?" she said meekly, still a little unsure of herself.
"Well, it's eitha now or neva. An I sure hope it's now, cause I can't wait ta have some more fun," Kiltees replied with a big smirk on his freckled face. "Ya guys are all takin this way too seriously. Let's all just have some fun. We ain't got nothin ta worry about. Everythins gonna work out fine."
Coress wasn't sure if he was reassuring himself just as much as he was reassuring them, but she agreed. "Okay then, here goes nothin."
She began to push on the heavy door with her small hands, but two large, callused hands immediately replaced them. Tosorin whispered to her softly, "I'm your guard, remember?" Coress smiled shortly and nodded, then fixed her face with a furious scowl, readying herself for the role-playing to come.
The inside of Lady Walrona's estate was even more beautiful than the outside had been. Rose marble floors were accentuated by cerulean colored, hand-woven rugs. Tapestries of the greatest splendor hung like portraits of the gods, from the high, cathedral ceiling. Furnishings made of silk and the softest down were placed with care in positions that conveyed the highest sensuality.
It was on one of these luxurious sofas that Olban lay, his large blue eyes transfixed on the scantily clad mistress. Even Coress, who despised the woman deeply, had to admit that she was beautiful. Her long, wavy, honey-colored hair flowed down the back of her sheer amethyst robe in a silky sea. Her soothing amber eyes seemed to comfort anything they lay sight upon. The lady's movements were like a dance, with such grace and elegance that could only be seen in the king's ballets.
She was talking in the voice of a songbird, whispering sweet nothings to Coress's entranced brother, caressing his bared chest with her gentle fingers. The whole scene made Coress sick, and she felt as though she was going to faint.
Wobbling back and forth, she glanced towards Tystan. He was staring at Lady Walrona lustfully, obviously not trying to contain himself. This immediately snapped Coress out of her dizzy and made that deep feeling of rage she had been hiding all along rise from within her.
She looked back at Kiltees and Tosorin, as if to ask if they were really ready. They nodded quickly, understanding her glance, and she turned her face forward, taking a deep breath.
Coress pitched her voice into a piercing screech as she stormed into the room, her dress's skirts flying up around her legs. "You dirty, nasty, little bitch!"
At the sound of her voice, Olban and Lady Walrona immediately scrambled up into sitting positions on the sofa. Olban's eyes went wide with astonishment. "Marvia, I thought we were going to be alone. Who are these people?" Coress allowed herself a tiny smile; her brother hadn't recognized them.
Marvia's eyes seemed to turn a burning red. "I don't know, my dear, but we shall soon find out, won't we?" she hissed, as she glared fiercely at Coress. "How dare you come into my home uninvited and call me obscene names? I assure you miss that my business is none of yours! Now, leave before I have it ordered that you be sent to the king's dungeons!" Her voice was no longer angelic, and the words came from her mouth in a condemning tone.
Coress laughed wickedly and took another step closer. "That's where you are wrong Walrona. I have perfectly good reason to call you by any name that I please!"
Marvia shot up from the sofa, her long gown rustling behind her. Her voice was still infuriated, but also held an element of curiosity. "You have no-"
"I have no reason? Is that what you were going to say? A bold faced lie, no doubt! Your escapades must be all too frequent for you to remember them all!"
"If you are calling me a sl-"
"Yes! That is exactly what I am calling you! But I only say it because that is what you are! What else would you be? You stole the heart of my dumbfounded husband!"
Marvia smiled at that notion. "Well, I certainly cannot help those who unintentionally come to love me."
"Don't try to play games with me, whore! I know full well what you do to men! I know that you toy with them, offering them the world, and then taking it away in an instant, leaving them spellbound. You did it to my husband! Now he says he can't truly feel pleasure, because all he does is reminisce about the times he spent with you!"
Again, an upward curve appeared on Marvia's lips. "It is not my fault that you cannot physically please your own husband."
"I would be perfectly capable of pleasing him, of he were not so entranced by you! Look at him!" Coress pointed back at Tystan. He stood with a bedazzled look on his face. She wasn't sure whether it was a carefully planned pose, or if he was really recalling all the emotions that he had for this woman.
Either way, his appearance was effective. Marvia seemed to have recognized him, and she looked slightly confused. "What... no... how... is that... T-"
"Yes. That's right. Now you seem to remember him." Coress effectively cut Marvia off before she could spoil their masquerade. "Was it fun, Walrona? Was it fun to torture his soul?"
Suddenly, a soft-voiced Tystan spoke. "I'm so sorry, Marvia. I tried to stop her, I truly did, but I am now somewhat glad to be here. Your presence brings back very fond memories." With that, he proved to Coress that he could act just as well as she could.
Marvia's already rosy cheeks turned a furious red, as she began to become flustered. "Why, I have no idea what you are talk-"
"My love, you surely don't forget our times together? In the hayloft, at your business meetings, why even on this very couch? We shared so much passion, had so much love. Why did you ever leave me?" Tystan took the lead from Coress with perfect grace.
"I'm sorry sir, but you must be mistaken... I... I... I am not this woman that you speak of," Marvia stammered, glancing nervously back at Olban.
"How could I mistake anyone else for you? It feels as though it was just yesterday that you held me to your breast, your gentle fingers caressing my entire body..."
Now she turned around fully to face Olban, speaking to him rather than to any of her intruders. "I swear I have absolutely no idea what this man is talking about! He must have spent too much time in the tavern today. He-"
Tystan went on, "How you gazed into my eyes with your endless pools of honey-colored sight, and how you placed gentle butterfly kisses on my lips..."
Marvia glanced back at Tystan, wide-eyed with fear, then immediately continued with her pitiful excuses to Olban. "You must not believe him! He has gone absolutely delirious!" Coress's brother had begun to travel back into reality by now, and he looked at Marvia with suspicious eyes.
Tystan continued, his voice now filled with more emotion than ever before. "You said that I could hold you forever, and that you would always be mine!" He emphasized those last words for some reason unbeknownst to Coress, but they certainly weren't new to Marvia or Olban.
Marvia Walrona gasped in horror, and stared at Tystan as if she were just thrown into her final judgment. She simply shook her head at Olban, tears welling up in her eyes, knowing that her love slave of just moments before now knew the truth.
Olban jumped up in rage, looking down at Marvia as if she was his own mother's executioner. For a moment, Coress actually thought that her brother would hit the found-out tramp, but he didn't. Olban set his jaw firmly and stalked out of the estate, breathing obscene words under his breath.
Marvia went after him at first, begging for him to just listen to her explanation, but finally just fell to the floor, realizing it was of no use. She showed no anger towards the four, not even Coress or Tystan, but instead, she wept. She didn't weep for a love lost forever, but for a lifestyle of wickedness that would be no more.
Coress beamed triumphantly from underneath her cloth veil. It had all worked. They had succeeded in their mission to help Olban, and Coress had achieved her supreme goal: to forever destroy Lady Marvia Walrona.
Tosorin, Kiltees, and Tystan each filed past her without a word, quickly retreating to the safety of the outdoors, just in case the broken lady tried to release her frustrations without warning. Coress followed them, but as she saw the woman sprawled out at her feet, she could not help but chuckle aloud.
Marvia looked up at her with glassy eyes, the tears pouring down her sickly-colored face. Coress bent down towards the dilapidated demimonde and said in a mocking whisper, "Look who got toyed with now."
Marvia stared at her for a moment, then erupted into another fit of sobs. Coress smiled broadly and stepped over her, making it intentionally known that she did not care if the folds of her dress hit the blubbering woman.
Coress pranced out of the estate, her head held high, and her beautiful gown swinging majestically about her. All three boys gaped at he in astonishment, and she smiled back at them victoriously. Then she laughed so hard that tears welled up in her violet eyes. Her friends quickly lost their startled expressions and also exploded into laughter. Huddled closely, the quartet happily trotted back to the barn where they had first formulated their perfect plan.
