Both Kane and Kiba scanned the wounded demons as Aurora and the other’s hurried to help those that were still alive. Screams could be heard coming from the forest as the tree’s were being uprooted by some terrible force as the tree’s were literally being thrown from the forest onto the meadow. A familiar voice could be heard coming from the dark forest as is growled.

“You can’t hide from me forever!” Zanatos yelled. Another tree was thrown from the forest as Zanatos continued his rampage. “You will die just as the rest of your miserable kind will. You will die knowing that your lover will follow suite not longer after.”

“Not if I have anything to do with it.” Kane muttered as he ran full speed towards the forest. Kiba followed right in behind him as worry covered his face.

“Don’t think I’ll let you go in alone.” Kiba said he came up beside Kane. “I’m afraid that you’re no match for him my Lord. Why don’t we attack him together?”

“No I can take him on my own. I don’t intend to kill him. I’m sure the Lord will come to his senses. He’s not a bad person, there must be some other reason for what he is doing.” Alex said with just a glint of hope in his eyes. Kiba tried to conceal the shocked look on his face as he ran.

“For your sake, as well as Celeste’s I hope you are right.” Kiba said finally.

“Don’t worry I’m sure I am. I’ll take care of the Lord and try to slow him down. You go get Celeste and take her back to where the other’s are waiting for you.” Kane ordered. Just as he said this a tree came hurdling at them as the two demons parted ways so the large tree could pass. A dark form was then blocking their path, its red eyes glaring at them with anger as it flexed out its enormous wings menacingly.

“So once again you have come to defy me Kane? I would’ve thought better of you than that.” Zanatos sneered. His skin was completely black as twisted horns jutted out from either side of his head. He was now twelve feet in height with arms and legs as thick as tree trunks. His hands and feet were taloned and his tail laid on the ground with an end as sharp as a spear. Even in his demonic form Zanatos’s facial expressions were obvious as he glared at the two demons.

“I do not intend any disrespect by defying you my Lord, but I cannot allow you to kill these demons.” Kane said as he coldly stared into the eyes of the monster before him. Even Kiba was astounded by how quickly Kane’s demeanor went from one of optimism to one of cold, emotionless, resilience.

“You cannot allow me. That is hardly fitting words for someone such as yourself. Do you really believe that you can stop me, or even slow me down as you are now?” Zanatos asked.

“Heh, the question is, do you really want to find out how strong I really am?” Kane challenged. “Kiba, go get your wife. I’ll take care of him.”

“Yes my Lord.” Kiba said. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Kane had become a different person right before his very eyes. Everything about his demeanor changed. From calm and thoughtful, to arrogant and confident. “Be safe lad.”

“Do you really think that I’m just going to let you pass?” Zanatos laughed. Another yell came from behind Zanatos causing Kiba to lunge forwards trying to get past Zanatos.

“Celeste!” Kiba yelled as he ran to the side of Zanatos.

“Pathetic fool.” Zanatos sneered as he struck out at the darting form of Kiba.

“Oh no you don’t!” Kane yelled as he stopped Zanatos’s hand just inches from hitting Kiba. Kiba looked back at what was happening, but Kane urged him to continue. “Go! I’ll hold him off for you.”

“Thank you lad.” Kiba whispered as he continued quickly trying to find Celeste. Kane turned his attention back to Zanatos as he smirked.

“Now it’s just you and me my Lord. Are you sure you don’t want to just give up? I’d really hate to have to defeat you.” Kane smirked.

“Your arrogance is starting to annoy me boy.” Zanatos threatened as he tried to lash out at Kane with his free hand. Before he could Kane tugged hard on Zanatos’s arm and managed to toss him through the woods away from Kiba. Zanatos stopped himself with his enormous wings and regained his footing just as Kane launched himself at him. Zanatos struck at Kane with his enormous arm, but Kane managed to dodge it and ran along Zanatos’s arm and struck Zanatos hard in the jaw as he jumped off of Zanatos’s shoulder and landed behind him. Zanatos twirled around trying to backhand Kane. Kane jumped over his hand only to have Zanatos try to grab him in mid air. Kane managed to leap over Kane’s hand and ricochet off the back of it and launch a series of attacks on Zanatos’s chest. Kane was suddenly sent flying as Zanatos’s tail connected with Kane’s rib and knocked him through several trees. Kane flipped over in the air and planted his feet firmly against the trunk of a tree as he launched himself back at Zanatos. Kane slashed at Zanatos with all his might as he passed by him, forming as ‘X’ across Zanatos’s chest.

“I told you, you might just want to give up now.” Kane gloated. As he readied himself for another attack.

“Such is the arrogance of the weak. Those who are foolishly prideful of their meager strength do not know what power really is.” Zanatos said. Kane didn’t have time to question Zanatos’s words before he was hit from behind by Zanatos’s tail. Zanatos twirled around and caught Kane in his enormous hand. Kane nearly had the breath knocked out of him as Zanatos tightened his grip on Kane’s body and slammed him into the cliff walls beside them. Zanatos repeatedly slammed Kane into the cliff wall until it was nothing but rubble. Zanatos sneered with pride as he lifted Kane higher in the air and slowly began to crush the life out of him.

Kane’s vision began to blur as he felt his ribs begin to give way under the pressure. Right as he felt that he couldn’t take anymore he felt Zanatos’s grip weaken as Zanatos cursed loudly.

“Get off of me you damn dog!” Zanatos yelled. Kane’s vision began to focus as he saw Kiba holding onto the arm in which Zanatos held Kane. Kiba’s claws were dug deep into Zanatos’s flesh despite Zanatos’s trying to shake him off. Finally Kiba let go when Zanatos hit him with his free hand, causing Kiba to fall to the ground. At the same time Zanatos released Kane, causing Kane to fall limply to the ground, as Zanatos inspected his arm. He glared at the two demons with nothing but pure hatred.

“How...how can two low life demons such as yourselves cause me so much damn trouble!” Zanatos yelled.

“We’re just good at that...my Lord.” Kane coughed. Blood was trickling off of his lips as he looked over at Kiba then back behind Zanatos. A female wolf demon could be seen peering out at them behind a tree with fear in her eyes. Her fur was snow white, and even through the pain Kane couldn’t help but think how beautiful she was. Zanatos followed Kane’s gaze as his eyes lit up with malice.

“Perfect.” Zanatos said in an ominous tone as he turned his back towards the two demons and faced Celeste. “Watch now old fool, and see the harvest of your works.”

Kiba looked up just in time to see Zanatos launch himself at Celeste. Celeste tried to dodge but wasn’t fast enough as Zanatos clamped his powerful jaws around her. Celeste screamed in pain as Zanatos twirled around to face Kane and Kiba, still holding Celeste in his mouth. Kiba yelled as tears came to his eyes. His yell was a mixture of anger, pain, and sadness as he tried to get up.

Blood dripped from Zanatos’s mouth as dropped Celeste’s body onto the forest floor as the life began to ebb out of Celeste. Just as Kiba stood up he was stopped by Kane’s hand. Kane was already standing up and glaring at Zanatos with eyes that sent shivers down Kiba’s spine. Kane’s demonic energy swirled around him causing Kiba to fall back on the ground. Even Zanatos seemed shocked by Kane’s sudden increase of power.

“You are a monster!” Kane yelled. “How can you call yourself a Lord? You are nothing more than a beast! A beast that needs to be put down!” Kane grabbed at the collar around his neck. It was then that both Kiba and Zanatos realized that it had been severely damaged during the fight between Zanatos and Kane. In one swift motion Kane ripped the collar from his neck as his power exploded all around him. Kane started to walk towards Zanatos, his demonic aura coursing around his body, crackling with energy. Zanatos looked at Kane then back to Kiba as he straightened up and wiped the blood off of his lips.

“Heh, maybe next time we will test your theory boy. However, next time, I can assure you, I won’t let you live long enough to speak to me as you have this day.” Zanatos promised. Before Kane could move Zanatos shot up into the sky as his powerful wings carried him across the sky. Kane’s demonic energy faded away as he watched Kiba run to Celeste. Tears fell from both their eyes as Kiba held her tightly in his arms and whispered that everything would be okay.

Kane walked up behind him as Celeste smiled weakly at Kiba. “Kiba, I’m sorry I have to leave you. I wish...I wish that things could’ve been different, that you could’ve seen our daughter.”

“Shh, its okay Celeste.” Kiba said through tears. “Everything’s going to be okay. I won’t leave you.”

“Kiba, there’s no hope for me. My time has come. I love you.” Celeste whispered as she started coughing up blood. Kane examined Celeste’s wound to reveal that Zanatos had nearly bitten her in a half. He had missed some of her vital organs ensuring that her death would be slow and painful. Kiba held Celeste in his arms as she continued to cough up more blood. Kiba looked at Kane pleadingly

“Why...why did you come help me?” Kane asked trying hard to keep calm. “If you had stayed with her you could’ve escaped.”

“She wanted me to help you. She told me to.” Kiba said softly. Kane’s eyes widened with shock as he looked at Celeste with wonder. Celeste opened up her eyes weakly as she smiled at him.

“Please, protect Kiba. Make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.” Celeste said weakly. She then looked at Kiba with glazed eyes. “Kiba, I have one last favor to ask of you.”

“Whatever you want its yours.” Kiba replied sadly.

“The pain, its too much. Please, end my suffering Kiba.” Celeste begged. Kiba paled with shock as he looked at Celeste with horror.

“I-I can’t....” Kiba stammered.

“Kiba, please.” Celeste begged as tears streamed from her eyes. Kiba started to shake his head when Kane placed his hand on Kiba’s shoulder.

“Kiba, do it for her. End her suffering.” Kane said. Kiba still shook his head as he looked up at Kane with a broken expression.

“I can’t kill my own wife.” Kiba sobbed. Kane hesitated before kneeling beside him.

“Then let me do it. It’s my fault, therefore her blood should be on my hands.” Kane said as the sadness he had been holding inside of himself began to show. “I was too weak to stop the Lord. If I wasn’t so weak I could’ve kept him from hurting you. Instead you had to come help me, and because of it, she got hurt. Allow me to end her pain.” Kiba started to say no when he looked at Kane. Kiba closed his eyes and whispered something in Celeste’s ear causing her to smile faintly. She looked back up at Kane her eyes watering.

“Thank you.” she whispered. Kiba kissed Celine and told her he loved her once more before slowly setting her on the ground so that Kane could do what he had to do.
“Please, make it quick lad.” Kiba said as if he would die too when Celeste no longer exited. Kane nodded solemnly as he tried to calm his shaking hands before raising his hand above Celeste.

“I am sorry, for being so weak. I am sorry for causing you pain. Your blood is my sin, I will live with this forever. I hope you find solace in the next life.” Kane said. With the last words he stabbed Celeste in the heart, killing her instantly.
