Brittany ran out of the dinning room as the tears stung her eyes blurring her vision. She wasn’t paying attention as she ran into someone nearly knocking both of them over. “I’m sorry.” Brittany said quickly as she tried to wipe the tears from her eyes so that she could see who she hit.
“It’s okay. Oh Brittany what’s wrong?” Holly asked as she saw how upset Brittany was. Brittany swallowed back her tears as she shook her head. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Brittany hesitated before answering. “Yes.”
“Okay then. Let’s go up to your room and get you looking better while you tell me what’s going on.” Holly said. Brittany nodded as Holly led her up to the bedroom. Brittany sat down on the bed as Holly took a seat on the other side of her. “Okay, start from the beginning.”
“Holly, I need some advice. If I tell you, you’ve got to swear not to tell anyone.” Brittany said afraid that she might be making a mistake, but knowing that she needed some advice.
“Of course, my lips are sealed.” Holly said sincerely. Brittany smiled as she continued.
“Thank you. Okay, I won’t go over all of what Alex told me, just the parts I need your advice on okay?” Brittany said.
“That’s fine with me. Just tell me what you think I need to hear.” Holly offered not wanting to force Brittany to tell her anything.
“When Alex took me down to the treasure room to talk he told me everything I had ever wanted to know. He revealed everything to me. He also told me something that I wasn’t expecting. When Alex marked me as his mate he evidently did more than I had originally thought. When he marked me, he put something inside of me.” Brittany revealed. Holly nodded as she listened though she had already guessed this she listened with interest.
“I can’t tell you exactly what it is that he put inside of me without going into more detail, and I can’t reveal all that.” Brittany added quickly. “The reason I’m worried is because what Alex put inside of me is very valuable to him. To be quite honest, if the other Lord’s ever found out what I have inside of me they’d do everything in their power to try and obtain it. He says that he loves me and not what’s inside of me, but I can’t help but worry that he might just want what’s inside of me.”
Holly shook her head. “I don’t think so Brittany. I mean, the Lord is very hard to read sometimes, but what I saw last night was anything but unreadable. That man loves you with all of his heart. Although that might not be that big, the fact remains is that I truly believes that he loves you. You know it must be the truth if I’m standing up for him.” Holly said with a smile. Brittany smiled weakly, but it was evident that there was still more on her mind. “Okay what’s up? I know there’s more so you might as well tell me now so you can get it off of your mind.”
“Last night, when me and Alex were together something happened.” Brittany started slowly.
“What do you mean?” Holly asked intrigued by Brittany’s hesitation.
“Well, when me and Alex were together last night.” Brittany began. Holly cut in with a coy smile.
“So when you two had sex last night?” Holly said with a smirk. Brittany blushed and nodded.
“Yes. When we had sex last night, something happened. Alex changed, and I’m not sure what to do if it happens again.” Brittany explained.
“By changed you mean...oh okay.” Holly said as her eyes lit up with understanding. She then became worried as she studied Brittany carefully. “What happened exactly? Are you okay, I mean did he hurt you?”
“Well, yes and no.” Brittany admitted slowly. “I mean, he did hurt me, but he didn’t mean to. I healed myself, so I’m okay now. Still Alex hasn’t acted the same around me since that happened. He’s distanced himself because he’s afraid of hurting me. I’ll admit I’m not exactly looking forward to it happening again, it really scared me, but that doesn’t change the fact that I still love Alex. I want to be with him, and if it does happen again then so be it.”
Holly could see the fear lingering in Brittany’s eyes despite what she had said. Holly thought to herself for a moment before speaking. “Well, I believe the technical word for what happened to him is degenerative transgression. In other words they become more primal and sensual.”
“Wait, I’ve heard that term before.” Brittany said as she thought about it. Her face brightened as she snapped her fingers. “That’s right, Alcadan wrote about that in his spell book.”
“The archmage’s spell book?” Holly asked as she looked at Brittany with new interest. “What do you mean by that.”
Brittany instantly clasped her hand over her mouth as her eyes widened in shock at what she had just said. She lowered her hand slowly as she looked at Holly. “Well seeing as how I’ve already said it, and I’ve already said things that I shouldn’t have, I might as well tell you this too. After Alex learned that I could do magic he showed me a special spell book written by the archmage himself.”
“But I searched all over this castle looking for spell books. I even searched the treasure room for them! Where did hide this one?” Holly asked with excitement. Brittany hesitated before telling Holly, trying to decide wether or not she should. Finally Brittany’s resolve gave away as Holly’s excited face looked her way.
“Alex has a special case behind the bookshelf in his study. You can only open it with a special word though. That’s why you weren’t able to find it.” Brittany answered. She immediately realized the growing knot forming in her stomach. Alex is going to kill me if he finds out that I talked to Holly about all this. Dammit Brittany, why did you have to talk to her? I needed advice yes, but was it worth risking Alex’s trust over?
Holly could see the fear and doubt covering Brittany’s face. Holly placed a reassuring hand on Brittany’s shoulder as she smiled. “Don’t worry, it’ll be our little secret. Girl talk stays between the girls, no one else.”
Brittany smiled weakly, not comforted at all by Holly’s words. “Still, please make sure not to tell anyone. I-I really shouldn’t have told you, but I really needed to tell someone. At the very least so that I could get it off my chest.”
“I understand, and don’t worry, no one else will find out. I promise.” Holly said. At these word’s Brittany’s throat tightened as she closed her eyes to stop the tears that she knew were about to come. I’ve betrayed Alex. I’ve broken my promise to him, the promise I swore to keep. What on earth was I thinking?
Holly suddenly shot up from the bed and raced towards the bedroom door. She opened it quickly and peered down either side of the hallway and sniffing the air.
“What’s wrong Holly?” Brittany exclaimed after she had realized what Holly was doing.
“Hmm, I guess nothing. I could’ve sworn I had heard someone at the door, but I guess it was just my mind playing tricks on me.” Holly said with a sigh. She turned and smiled at Brittany. “I’d better go on. It’d be pretty suspicious if the Lord came in while you were talking to me.”
“You’re right.” Brittany admitted. “Thanks for listening Holly, but please keep this just between us.”
“Don’t worry so much, I will.” Holly assured her. Holly’s eyes got big as she listened. “Uh oh, I’d better run, I think I hear the Lord coming.” Before Brittany could object Holly waved to her as she shut the door and quickly left. A few seconds later Alex walked in slowly as he looked at Brittany. Alex seemed surprised at first by something but didn’t mention it. It was obvious that he had a purpose for being there. Brittany stiffened as Alex gazed at her. Fear began to take over her until she saw Alex smile softly.
“Do you mind if we talk for a second?” Alex asked softly in a voice that made Brittany’s heart break with guilt. Brittany nodded as she tried to gain control over her emotions. Alex sat beside her and in a matter or moments explained to her everything that Kiba had just told him. Brittany listened intently, her fears subsiding as Alex’s eyes lit up with excitement.
“So what does this mean for us exactly?” Brittany asked, holding her breath in anticipation.
“This means that I can be with you without fear of losing control, or at least without fear of killing you. I can’t keep myself away from you anyway, the more I do the more I can’t restrain myself.” Alex admitted softly. Brittany could see the conflicting emotions in his eyes. The longing, the desire, the need, but also the fear and hesitation.
He’s too afraid to do anything even though he wants to. Brittany thought. Her heart ached with guilt, and she considered telling Alex what she had done, but instead she leaned over and kissed him on the lips. Alex didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her close to him. He parted her lips with his tongue and eagerly began to search her mouth. A small moan escaped Brittany’s throat as Alex moved his hands beneath her dress to her sides and then began to massage her breasts. Both Alex and Brittany were so caught up in their own ecstacy and sensual passion that were oblivious to the knocking on their bedroom door. When Alex finally realized someone was knocking his shirt was off, and Brittany’s dress was laying on the floor.
“Well now that I have your attention, we’re about to leave my Lord.” Kiba called out from the other side of the door. Alex and Brittany exchanged looks, but mentally envisioning Kiba’s smirk at what he had caught them doing. Alex chuckled softly as he kissed Brittany again and slowly crawled off of her.
“Hurry and get changed okay.” Alex said quietly. He threw back on his shirt and called out to Kiba. “We’ll be there in just a second.”
“Yes my Lord.” Kiba returned, this time his laughter could be heard even through the doors. Brittany rolled out of bed despite that her body was longing for Alex to continue with what he had started. She could tell that Alex too wanted to continue but they both had obligations that they had to attend to first. Brittany threw back on her bra and slid a shirt on as she looked through her closet for a pair of pants. Before she found them Alex walked up behind her and placed his arms around her waist, causing her to straighten up and lean against his back. Alex kissed her neck softly as he whispered.
“I’m so lucky to have you. Please though, keep everything I told you earlier a secret okay. I know I don’t have to worry with you though. You’d never tell a secret. That’s the reason I trust you with my very heart and soul. I love you, and I honestly don’t know what I do without.” Alex whispered before kissing her again. Brittany froze as she felt her heart beat race. Her heart filled with grief and guilt for lying to Alex. He trust me, and I gave away his trust just as soon as he truly began to trust me. What have I done?
