Fan Fiction ❯ The Four Lords ❯ Life for Power ( Chapter 45 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Alex’s eyes were blurred by blood and anger as Baou mockingly walked towards him. He arrogantly shoved the wraith that was holding Alex’s throat knocking him out of the way. The wraith growled in response but did not attack Baou. It instead moved behind Baou with the rest of the wraiths. Baou grabbed Alex’s jaw tightly tilting his head upwards so that Alex was forced to look at him.
“You are pathetic.” Baou spat as he pulled his right arm back and punched Alex in the face. Alex dropped to his knees from the force of the punch, spitting out blood as he looked back up at Baou. “You don’t deserve to live. If you waste your life living for another then your life itself is worthless.”
Alex smirked as blood dripped from his lips. His eyes suddenly turned white as a growl escaped his throat. “Nothing I’ve done has been worthless, nor is my love worthless. Now if you want to fight me...then fight me!” Baou backed away quickly as his eyes widened with surprise. Aurora stopped in her tracks as she stared open mouth at the power radiating from Alex.
What’s going on? Just a second he was good as dead and I was coming to help. Now it looks like they are the one’s that are going to need help. Aurora thought as she took a step back as a surge of power coming from Alex rocked the ground. Before anyone realized what had happened Alex launched himself off of the ground and into the air, breaking free of the wraith’s grasp. Alex spun in mid air, his long white hair wrapping itself around his body as a feral growl pierced the air.
This power, but how? I can’t believe it! The last time I felt like this was back during the war before my power was sealed. What the hell’s going on? Alex thought as he started his descent. His eyes locked onto the wraith that had launched itself into the air after Alex. This power isn’t going to help me unless I can kill these wraiths. Without that damn spell I’m useless.
I am here to help you. To right a wrong that was done long ago. If it is the spell that you desire, use it. I see there is a spell that binds your powers as well, for that I am sorry. I cannot fully remove the seal for you, at least not now. I’ve managed to loosen the seal so that you can unleash some of your demonic powers. Do not over exert yourself however for this is only temporary.
What the hell is going on? Who the hell are you?
All in good time. If I were you I would not hesitate to use this gift I have given you. I have great faith in you. That alone means you are very special. Now, prove to me that what I have done was worth it.
Alex’s eyes lit up as a smirk appeared on his lips. “I’m not doing this for you old man. I’m doing this cause I can’t stand Zanatos and anything that would hurt him would only help me.”
“KILL HIM!” Baou shouted as he stared up into the sky. Everyone’s eyes were fixed at Alex who was quickly descending headfirst towards the ascending wraith.
Thanks old man. I owe you one. Alex thought as he titled his head and clasped his hands together. Brittany sure as hell have a lot of explaining to do after this.
“Kage’s umareru kara konton arasoi. Toru nikutai toru chi iki ukatore shogai!” Alex chanted. A silver orb glowed in Alex’s hands as several silver beams shot out from it. Each beam passed through one of the wraith’s chest before disappearing along with the silver orb.
“What the hell did he just do?” Baou growled. He looked to Doma and Ginpachi for answers, but both of them had retreated back to the front lines of their own armies after seeing Alex’s burst of strength.
You did it, I’m impressed. Alcadan said with a smile even though Alex couldn’t see it.
Yeah, let’s just hope you haven’t lost your touch.
It sounds as if you think you know me, but I can assure you whoever you think I may be, that person is long dead.
You could say the same about me. Alex thought. Now let’s see what these powers of mine can do after so much sleep.
The wraith was upon Alex, its deadly claws raised to attack. Alex smirked as he disappeared behind the wraith landing on the ground beneath him. The wraith didn’t have time to scream before it fell apart in tiny pieces. Blood poured from the sky as the wraith’s body fell onto the ground in bloody pieces. Everyone was in awe as Alex stood up and flexed his hands, his eyes were solid white and now red markings appeared on his face.
Old man, thanks. I know this is just temporary but still I needed this. I had nearly forgotten how good it felt to have my power back.
Do not misjudge me. I just don’t like to see a Lord abuse his powers like Zanatos has. That is the only reason I am helping you.
Old man, you’re a terrible liar. Alex moved in a blur of motion as he launched himself at the wraith’s that were closest to him. No one, not even Baou spoke as Alex fought the wraiths. The transformation that occurred in Alex was impossible to describe. Even though only a small portion of his power had been unlocked, it literally radiated from him.
“Everyone, fall back!” Baou ordered as he stepped back quickly as a wraith’s limp body flew past him. “He’s broken his seal.”
Alex’s white eyes fixed themselves on Baou as he sneered. Alex stabbed both his hands into a wraith’s chest and ripped the wraith in half, covering himself in its blood. When the final wraith fell Alex turned back to Baou with an expression of amusement. “For one who is so cocky and arrogant, I am surprised to see you retreat so quickly.”
“I don’t know how you managed to break the seal, but this shall not go unpunished.” Baou said. Even though he tried his best to remain composed it was obvious that he was scared.
Alex actually laughed at the comment as he spoke. “Fool! I haven’t broken the seal! This is but a portion of my true power. Now do you see how feeble your Lord is compared to me!” Alex was about to say more when he winced in pain. Alex grabbed his stomach as a burning sensation swept through his body.
NO! What’s happening to me?
I told you that it was only temporary. I cannot remove the seal yet. The rest is up to you.
No, not yet! You can’t do this to me! I need my power to defeat them!
They are already defeated, or can’t you tell? After seeing how you acted with your powers partially returned, I am glad that I didn’t remove the seal. Look at yourself! One moment you were preaching ideals, and now that you are no longer the weakling you instantly revert back to might makes right.
That’s not true. I just, it’s just that I forgot how good it felt to have some strength again.
You lost your self control to your power. Isn’t that what got the seal placed on you in the first place? If I were you I’d learn to control myself before I try and tell others what a Lord should be. You have great potential, and believe it or not but I do have faith in you. This will not be the last time we will talk, that I can assure you. For now concentrate on the task at hand. Remember, the easiest way to humble yourself is by loving. I sense within you a great struggle. Conflicting emotions that are taking over your heart. Don’t succumb to doubt and hate. Love is what shall truly make you strong. As long as you focus on that you will be fine. Whatever has caused such emotions to arise, it is trivial as long as you have those you love.
You make everything sound easier than it really is old man.
Love is never easy, nor is trusting. I’ve lived long enough to know that.
Alcadan....
We will talk again.
Alex felt the burning sensation cease, but with it a pain began to course through his body. Alex cringed in pain as his eyes returned to normal and his facial markings disappeared. Alex’s sudden weakness gave Baou more confidence as he stepped forward and called on Doma and Ginpachi to help.
“Look’s like he’s a one trick wonder. We can finish him off right now.” Baou said with prideful confidence.
“You sure Baou? I don’t know about this. He just took out ten wraiths! He’s not normal.” Ginpachi said in a hesitant tone.
“He used a spell to turn them to flesh and blood.” Doma answered. “Still, that doesn’t bode well for us. If he was powerful enough to use that spell and you saw his power! It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.”
“Both of you are nothing but cowards!” Baou yelled. “Look at him, he can barely stand. Whatever he did was just a fluke. He’s as good as dead.”
Baou looked back at the other general’s and looked towards their armies. It was easy to tell that they were all disturbed by what had just happened. Many of them had broken ranks and backed away when they saw Alex tear through the wraiths as if it were nothing. “Pull yourselves together! Why do you fear someone who is staring at death’s door? He is nothing special, he never has been. What you saw was the last burst of strength of a dying man. Now watch as we tear him limb from limb.”
With those words Baou launched himself at Alex, followed by Doma and Ginpachi. All three general’s radiated blood lust as they neared Alex. Despite Alex’s efforts to remain standing he fell to one knee as he stared at the three general’s coming for him.
Talk about deja vu. Alex thought. This is the end. I can’t move. My body has turned against me. Every muscle hurts. I can’t say I don’t deserve what’s coming, but to die like this once again. Fate has one sick sense of humor.
“Brittany, I’ll always love you.” Alex whispered as Baou came within striking distance.
