Fan Fiction ❯ The Four Lords ❯ The Battle's End ( Chapter 46 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Brittany stood up quickly as her eyes widened with shock. “Alex he’s in trouble.” Brittany darted towards the exit of the treasure room with Kiba and Shadow right beside her. Both of them gave quick glances to each other. Each one knowing what the other was thinking.
This isn’t good. If the lass know’s something’s wrong then it’s officially gone from bad to worse. Shit, the Lord had better not have done anything stupid while I’ve been gone. My Lord, please be alright. Kiba thought as he opened up the door and started the platform which took them to the main floor of the castle.
Holly what the hell’s going on out there? Please stay alive, please be alright. Shadow thought as he glanced nervously at Brittany. Brittany’s hands were clasped together and her eyes shut tight as if she was in a silent prayer. Tears fell from her eyes as she concentrated on trying to sense Alex’s aura. All of a sudden she felt everything. All of Alex’s emotions and pains nearly overwhelmed her as she felt his presence surround her.
Alex! Alex, oh God please be okay. No, I can feel his energy fading. This can’t be happening! Brittany let out a small gasp and covered her hand with her mouth as she opened up her eyes. Her hands trembled a little as she looked at Kiba. Kiba closed his eyes in understanding, already fearing the worse. Shadow opened his mouth to speak but no word’s came out. Finally he just looked at the floor in silence.
Brittany couldn’t contain it anymore as she released all her emotions in one outburst. “I can’t feel his presence anymore. I can’t sense him anymore. For one brief moment I could feel his pain and hear his thoughts. The last words he spoke were to me. He told me he would always love me, he knew I would hear it.” Brittany said through tears. Kiba bit his bottom lip to keep back the sorrow that was threatening to overtake him. He opened up the door to the main floor and without wasting a second all three of them dashed to the nearest window.
The group was relieved to see that Alex was still alive, but there joy was short lived as they took in the entire scene of the battle. Brittany nearly collapsed when she saw Baou come crashing towards Alex with a blow that she knew would finish him. Brittany shut her eyes, afraid to see what she knew was about to happen. It was as if time stood still for her. She expected to hear a scream of pain, to feel her heart go cold, something, anything. Instead nothing happened. Brittany opened up her eyes as she felt Kiba’s hand touch her shoulder.
“You shouldn’t close your eyes lass. You have to be strong for the Lord while he’s fighting. His mind is always focused on you, hence the reason what he thought would be his last breath he spoke to you. The least you can do is watch the fight despite its horrors.” Kiba said softly. Brittany didn’t know what he meant and was afraid he was confirming her fears. Kiba’s grim mood broke as he smiled and pointed. “If you don’t pay attention you might miss something important.”
Brittany looked at Shadow who had tears in his eyes as he smiled proudly towards the battlefield. Brittany peered back outside to see Baou’s taloned hand a hair’s breath away from Alex’s face. Alex was still kneeling on the ground and still in pain but he had a smirk on his face. His hair covered his eyes and it was matted with blood so there was no way he could see what had happened, but from where Brittany was she could see everything. Holly, along with other wolves had launched themselves at the three generals. There were five wolves to each general. One holding each limb and a final one holding the general by the throat. Holly’s claws tightened around Baou’s throat as she looked over at Alex with a worried smile on her face.
“He’s okay!” Brittany exclaimed happily even though she knew this battle was far from over. Kiba and Shadow both had relieved looks on their faces, but they knew better than to relax until everyone was safely back inside the castle.

“What the hell is this?” Baou gasped as he struggled to free himself from the wolves grasps. “I thought you were ordered not to interfere.”
“That’s the difference between us and your troops. They do what they’re told because they’re afraid of you. We do what we do because we respect our Lord. He’s not perfect, but he’s a hell of a lot better than anyone else.” Holly replied with a smile. She then looked back at Alex ,without relaxing her grip on Baou, and asked. “Are you alright my Lord?”
“Heh, I’m fine.” Alex said weakly, even though it was obvious that he was lying. “Baou, maybe now you can see the difference between our strengths. Strength does not come from power alone, but from being able to count on those when you need them. Despite the fact that I ordered them not to interfere, I knew that if my life was in danger they wouldn’t hesitate to help.”
Alex stopped for a moment as he struggled to stand. Alex winced in pain and was heavily breathing when he stood, but his piercing gaze never once wavered. “Where as your men wouldn’t risk their necks to save you; mine however, defy direct order’s to insure my safety.”
“You are a spineless fool. Only the weak rely on the help of others. I can’t believe I was that someone as pathetic as you was once revered as the strongest warrior of his time.” Baou spat.
Holly tightened her grip on his throat as she glared at him. “If I were you, I’d watch my mouth.”
“Baou, the person standing before you is broken, beaten, and weak. I’ve accepted that. I’ve also accepted that to survive, to live, and to endure; it is easier to bear the burden with other’s rather than by yourself.” Alex said slowly, each word causing him pain. Alex composed himself before continuing. “Holly, let him go.”
“What are you crazy? Why in the hell do you want us to let him go? Don’t tell me you want to fight him. You can barely stand!” Holly yelled.
“Trust me ,someone such as him will never listen to reason. The only way he can communicate is through fighting. If that is what it will take for me to show him the truth of my word’s, then that is what I will do.” Alex stated. Holly’s hesitation was obvious as she looked at Baou and then back at Alex. “Holly, just do it. I’ll be fine.”
Holly nodded as she, along with the other four wolves that were holding Baou, jumped away from him quickly. Baou stretched his limbs before glaring back at Alex.
“You’ve just signed your own death warrant.” Baou said evilly. “Your weak, always have been, always will be. There’s no excuse and there’s no purpose for being so weak. If you must rely on other’s help, then you aren’t fit to live. You are inferior to me in every way!”
“At one time, I might’ve agreed with you. Now that I know what it feels like to be so ‘inferior’ I see things in a different light. If you think your so strong, then come and defeat me. Someone as inferior as I am shouldn’t put up much of a fight.” Alex said with a smirk. His eyes lit up as he wiped the blood from his face. His wounds on his face had almost completely healed, revealing that despite his new pain, his old wounds were no longer affecting him.
“I’ll kill you, you bastard!” Baou said as he launched himself at Alex. Everyone held their breath as Baou’s claws stabbed into Alex’s shoulders. “See, you cannot defeat me!”
Alex’s smirk never left his face as he calmly spoke despite his pain. “Your arrogance blinds you. Your hate makes you vulnerable. This inferior being has already defeated you with his words. Strength and power are nothing if you can’t control them. Now it’s time for you to learn that lesson!”
Alex grasped both of Baou’s arm ,which were still imbedded in his shoulders, and squeezed tightly. There was a loud cracking sound, and soon Baou’s screams filled the air. Alex pulled Baou’s arm out of his shoulder’s and released them. Baou fell to the ground, his limp and broken arms dangling on either side of him. Alex kneeled in front of him and grasped Baou’s chin forcibly, and made Baou look at him.
“When you put too much force on one spot even the slightest touch can break it if placed in the right spot. Take this lesson back with you to the north. I have spared your life knowing that you will hate me for disgracing you. My army will follow you to the border, if you still want to fight me then you know where to find me.” Alex coldly stated. Baou looked at him in disbelief, but something in Alex’s eyes made him bite back whatever he was going to say. Instead he nodded feebly and looked at the ground.
“We will do as you say and leave, but do not think that letting me live has changed anything between us.” Baou threatened.
“If you ever regain the use of your arms, come and kill me if you can. Personally, I’ve got bigger problems to worry about then you.” Alex stated as he turned and looked back at his army. “Holly, you stay here. Fuhma, you take charge and march them down to the border.”
A large brown wolf nodded and started barking orders to the demon’s. The wolves released Doma and Ginpachi, who stood still unsure of what to do. Alex turned back towards them and spoke. “My men will lead you to the border. I suggest you do so peacefully. If I so much as hear you’ve talked bad about anyone of my men, I will personally see to it that your punishment will be far worse than his. A demon Lord’s wrath is not one lightly evoked.”
Everyone could feel the tension in the air as the armies began to depart. It was obvious that no one in the armies wanted to test Alex’s threat as they quietly marched towards the border. As soon as everyone was out of sight Alex turned his head and spoke to Holly. “Now that that’s over I believe we have some things to talk about.”
“Yes, of course my Lord.” Holly replied softly. She closed her eyes, breathed deeply ,and sighed knowing full well what it was that Alex wanted to talk to her about. It was then that she caught the scent of fresh blood. Holly’s eyes snapped open as she looked at Alex. “My Lord!”
Alex turned around to her with a weak smile on his face as he finished unbuttoning his jacket. When the jacket fell off of Alex it was obvious where the blood was coming from. Alex’s entire shirt was drenched with blood. It drip off of him once the jacket was removed and began to pool around him. The color in Alex’s face began to drain as he smirked. “What can I say? The stronger the spell...the stronger the pain.”
Author's Note: I felt guilty about not updating Friday, so I tried to make it up by posting two today. Seeing what time it is however, I guess I'm posting it tomorrow. It's 12:04 a.m. here. Oh well, hope you guys like it, let me know what you think about the whole Alex/Baou thing. I'm not sure if I did such a good job on it. Also I hope I explained why Alex said "I'll always love you Brittany." at the end of the last chapter. It was because he knew she would hear him, and in all honesty he thought he was going to die. So despite the fact that technically this battle is all her fault, he still wanted her to know that he loved her. ANYway, let me know what you think and I'll try posting another chapter tomorrow...err....today I guess if I get the chance. Take care, bye.
P.S. For those writer's who have writer's block (and you know who you are) I hope you get over it soon so you can continue writing your awesome stories. ^_^
