Kiba opened up the door before Rire could protest further and started helping the elves out of their dark prison. Kiba called out to Rire in a serious tone. “If I were you I’d quit complaining and start helping everyone to safety.”
Rire gave one last look back at Alex and Brittany before rushing towards the door. In a matter of moments he was quickly helping everyone out of Zanatos’s castle and into the waiting hands of the clerics who immediately began to heal them.
Alex, Brittany, Shadow, Aurora, and Kiba patrolled the ground ensuring that no more guards were lurking about the premises. Alex waited for the final elf to make it through before calling everyone back. The instant Alex turned around he heard Brittany’s scream.
“Alex watch out!”
Before Alex could react to Brittany’s warning he felt a searing pain shoot through his spine. Alex barely managed to stop his fall and catch himself with his hands before he hit the ground. Alex gasped in pain, his body feeling like every inch of it was on fire. Alex felt Brittany roll him over as her wet tears hit his face.
“Alex, oh God, are you okay?” Brittany asked. She realized that Alex couldn’t even reply so she closed her eyes and held her hands over him. “Don’t worry, I think I can stop it.”
“Like I’d really give you the chance to stop what I’ve done. Reperend silienco. ” a voice said coldly. Despite the pain that coursed through his body Alex instantly knew who it was that attacked him. Out of the darkness stepped Magnus, behind him stood Zanatos and ten guards.
Brittany grasped her throat realizing that Magnus had just destroyed whatever chance she had of stopping the curse that was infecting Alex’s body. She silently cursed herself for not paying more attention to what was happening. Brittany tried to support Alex as he attempted to sit up and glare at Magnus.
“Don’t look so disappointed Kane. You should’ve know you would never have been able to get the better of me. Magnus here told me about the secret entrance, and seeing how disappointing Alcadan has been it was only natural that he would tell you about it. So we just waited for you to come, and sure enough here you are. We let you free the elves, I will have little use for them once you’re dead.” Zanatos declared.
“Dammit, how could I have been so foolish.” Alex said, gritting his teeth in pain. It was then that Kiba, Shadow, and Aurora appeared out of no where and tried to attack Magnus and Zanatos.
“Leave those two alone!” Kiba yelled as he slashed at Zanatos. Zanatos blocked Kiba’s attack and at the same time nailed Kiba in the stomach knocking the wind out of him. Before Aurora or Shadow could try and help him Magnus cast a spell which paralyzed them.
Zanatos picked Kiba up and threw him at his guards. The guards quickly took hold of Kiba making it to where he could not get free. With a flick of his wrist Magnus sent Shadow and Aurora right behind Kiba. “You didn’t really think your little troop could really do any damage to the Lord of the north?”
Zanatos smiled evilly as he walked forwards towards the fallen forms of Alex and Brittany. Zanatos’s eyes met Alex’s icy death glare and despite Alex being the one who was in pain Zanatos halted his movements. No matter what has happened, his eyes are still the same. Damn him, just this once I’m going to get the better of him. Just this once I’ll come out on top. Zanatos then turned his attention towards Brittany and gazed at her with a look that sent shivers down her spine. And I know just how to do it.
Zanatos knelt beside Brittany and Alex, with a quick motion Zanatos grabbed Alex by the throat and easily threw him across the field into the waiting arms of his guards. Brittany tried to lunge for Alex but Zanatos stopped her with one arm. “You’re not going anywhere. Your lover boy is going to have to take care of himself without you for a few seconds.”
Alex! Oh God this can’t get any worse. Brittany thought as she tried her best to back away from Zanatos. Instead of letting her go Zanatos brought her closer to him.
“I already told you that you’re not going anywhere. You’re being an awfully rude guest you know that. If I were you I’d learn a few manners.” Zanatos said yanking Brittany’s arm and forcing her into his embrace.
Alex’s eyes widened as he saw this and as he saw Brittany try to break free. Despite his pain a low growl escaped his throat and he lashed out at the guards that held him. “Don’t you lay a finger on her you bastard!”
“I wouldn’t try that if I were you. I cast the same spell on all your friends.” Magnus said waving his hand in regards to Shadow, Aurora, and Kiba. “If you’re not a good little boy it could kill you.”
“Fuck...you!” Alex yelled turning and glaring at Magnus.
“It’s no use Kane he’s right. All I have to do is give the word and you’re dead.” Zanatos said with a smug expression causing Alex to turn his gaze back towards him.
“What the hell are you getting at?” Alex asked. Zanatos nodded to Magnus and suddenly Alex screamed in pain as the burning sensation creeping through his body intensified to where he could not talk.
“Dog’s should not speak. They should barely been seen much less heard.” Zanatos instructed. “If I were you I’d keep that in mind Kane. You’re not in a very good position now are you?”
When Alex didn’t reply Zanatos gave him a disgusted look and turned to Magnus. “ Do it again.”
Brittany closed her eyes and turned away from the screaming causing Zanatos to laugh. Zanatos’s eyes lit up as Alex’s eyes focused in on him. “Kane I hope you take solace in the fact that everything that was once yours is now mine.”
Alex’s eyes bulged as he watched Zanatos grip Brittany hard by the jaw and force her to kiss him. Alex could feel Brittany’s disgust and revolt as Zanatos kissed her. Inwardly he was glad with Brittany’s reaction, but still he was pissed at how Zanatos touched her.
Aurora gave a proud yell as Brittany defiantly slapped Zanatos in the face. Kiba and Shadow were smiling at Brittany’s defiance. All of them were at Zanatos’s mercy but not a single one of them was going to back down. Alex tried to lunge forward when Zanatos went to slap Brittany, but Zanatos lowered his arm as he thought.
“No, I want you of your own free will. It will more pleasurable that way.” Zanatos sneered. He then looked back at Alex and smiled. “You look as if you could kill me right now Kane. That’s saying a lot considering with a single word I could have you killed.”
Brittany’s eyes widened at the statement causing Zanatos’s grin to deepen. “Well, it appears I have found my bargaining chip.”
“D-don’t...you...dare.” Alex said hoarsely. The pain of Magnus’s spell intensifying with every word he spoke.
“I’d stop with the bravado’s if I were you. Every time I increase the power of your spell it also affects your friends. You might be able to handle the pain, you’re used to it, but what about them?”
Alex saw the pained expressions of his friends. Even though they managed weak smiles he knew how much pain they were truly in. They’ve won. They’ve fucking won and now we’re going to pay the price. I’m sorry, I should’ve seen this. I shouldn’t have led you here without checking into it. Some Lord I’ve turned out to be. I can’t even move a finger much less save the people that mean the most to me.
Brittany felt everything that Alex felt. She could sense his pain and turmoil and her heart longed to be with him. Zanatos could see the longing in her eyes so he forced her to look at him.
“I’m going to make myself very clear do you understand me? You’ve got two choices. Either you be a nice girl and come with me, or I have Magnus end lover’s boy life and I take you anyway. Either way you lose, but by doing it willingly you can save your pathetic lover’s life.”
Brittany stared in shock at what Zanatos had just proposed as a million thoughts ran through her head. I can’t be with him I don’t love him. I despise him, I hate him! There’s no way I could ever love him. Brittany’s eyes then fell upon Alex and the tears which had remained frozen in place behind her eyes began to fall once again. I have to. I can’t let him die. I can’t let him die right in front of me knowing that I could’ve saved him.
Alex knew what Brittany was thinking and what he sensed caused his blood to freeze. Please God no. Don’t do it Brittany. Please, I’ll be fine, don’t give yourself to that monster.
Zanatos laughed at the pained expressions on both of the lover’s faces. Neither one wanting harm to come to the other. Finally when he thought enough time had passed he ordered. “Magnus, kill him.”
“Yes my Lord.” Magnus said and turned his staff towards Alex. Alex closed his eyes ready to accept his fate. He was silently praying that Brittany would be safe and that when he died she would be sent back to the human realm.
I’m the reason that she’s here. If I die the spell that brought her here should also vanish. Please, let her be safe. Alex thought. He waited for the pain but it never came. Alex’s heart ran cold as he realized why he was still alive. He opened up his eyes to see Zanatos holding up his hand telling Magnus to wait.
“What is your decision girl?” Zanatos demanded harshly.
Brittany looked up at Zanatos with tears in her eyes as she nodded slowly agreeing to his deal. Zanatos smiled with satisfaction as he turned back to Magnus. “Throw them in the dungeon ensure that they can’t get out. Send guards out to round up those fools who are outside the castle walls.”
“As you wish my Lord.” Magnus said bowing. Zanatos took Brittany by the arm and strode her over to Alex. Zanatos grabbed Brittany hard by the jaw as silently screamed in pain. He brought her face close to Alex’s and taunted him. “This is the last time you shall ever see her. From now she is nothing more than my sex slave. Your precious love has now become my bitch. How pathetic to owe your life to a human wench.”
Alex tried to lash out at Zanatos, his anger giving him strength to fight against Magnus’s spell. Zanatos simply backhanded the already severely weakened Alex causing Alex to fall to his knees. Zanatos bent over and unlatched Alex’s sword and took the ring off of Alex’s finger. Zanatos handed both the items to a demon who had been standing in the shadows.
“Fit them with collar restraints and lead them to the dungeon. Magnus make sure to create a barrier, don’t want these vermin somehow getting out.” Zanatos said. Magnus bowed and motioned to the demon in the shadows to fit the collars around Alex’s and everyone else’s neck. Alex’s eyes nearly doubled in size with shock and anger as the demon stepped forth into the light.
“Rylus!” Kiba snarled despite the fact that he too was in great pain. Rylus only smirked as he fitted everyone with collars and pulled them to their feet. With the collars on them they were as weak as normal humans. Not too mention the spell which Magnus still had them under. They had no choice but to follow Rylus’s commands.
Zanatos started to lead Brittany off to a large black tower when Rylus opened the door to the dungeon. For a brief second Alex and Brittany locked eyes before they were dragged to their inevitable fates.
Why, why did you do this? Alex thought. The answer he received when he looked into her eyes sent chills up his spine.

In that instant thunder flashed across the night sky and rain began to pour down. No, it can’t end this way. I won’t let it. I’m not going to lose you!
