Alex lashed out at the cell he was placed in. The moment his hands hit the bars a surge of energy burst forth causing him to fly backwards into the far wall. Rylus smirked as Alex tried once again to break the bars and once again he was thrown back by the barrier.
"You might as well give up." Rylus announced. Alex gave Rylus a death glare that told Rylus to shut up. Rylus lowered his voice but didn't back down. "Even though Magnus removed his spell there's still no way you can get yourself free. The barrier nullifies your demonic powers and sends enough voltage through the bars to keep you at bay."
"You sure as hell had us all fooled you damn traitor!" Kiba yelled. He looked over at Alex and what he saw broke his resolve. Alex was sitting on the ground not moving. His hair covered his eyes as he stared vacantly into space with a broken expression on his face. It was as if all life had left him the moment that Brittany was taken away. "How could you do this? You betrayed your clan, you betrayed your Lord! What on earth could've possessed you to sell your soul that demon!"
"Simple, natural instinct of survival. The fact that I'm better of joining the winning side than serving some love sick pathetic excuse for a Lord."
"You're the one that's pathetic Rylus. You're truly disgusting. After everything that has happened, everything that you've seen, everything you know about the Lord of the north. There's no excuse for actions." Holly exclaimed. "How could you do what you did?"
"I already told you. I wanted to live. I made my decision and so far it's been a damned good one. I'd rather be on this side of those bars than on the side you're on. All in all I think I made one hell of a good choice."
"If you believe what have done is right then you are a blind fool." Shadow told him. "Anyone who has seen what as much as you have and still cannot se what is right in front of him is truly blind."
Rylus paid no attention to their remarks. He instead focused his attention on Alex. "What's so special about that girl that you would risk your life to save her? Why on earth would you die for her?"
"You wouldn't understand even if I told you. Someone who betrays the only family he has to survive isn't fit to know what love is." Alex replied softly. Alex stood in one fluid motion and turned to the wall behind him. Even with the barrier dampening his demonic powers and strength Alex slammed his fist hard into the wall. Blood spurted forth from his hand but he acted as if he didn't even notice it. He continued slamming his fist into the wall again and again until the wall was covered in the blood pouring from his hands. Alex's breathing became labored as he spoke.
"Do you really want to know why I would risk my life to save her?" he asked resting his bleeding right hand against the wall. Everyone stood in shocked silence at what he had just done. Finally Rylus found his words.
"Yes, I want to know why someone who used to be so logical and cold would risk his life to save someone who is truly worthless."
Alex breathed a sigh of disgust as he slammed his fist into the wall again this time cracking a small part of it. "Because that's exactly what she's done for me!"
"Lad are you crazy? I know you want to get to her but this isn't the way to do it." Kiba said as he grabbed Alex's hand before it could hit the wall again. Alex's hair was covering his face so that Kiba couldn't tell wether or not he was mad at his actions. Regardless Kiba continued. "This isn't the way lad. You've got to calm yourself."
"You don't understand. Through our connection I can feel everything she's feeling. I know everything that's happening to her. I know everything that bastard is doing to her!" Alex said softly unable to maintain his composure. "That necklace made us one in the same. So while I'm sitting her doing nothing I can still feel what he's doing and how she feels. I'm sitting here while that damn monster's raping her even as I speak! I only wanted to protect her, and she gave herself to protect me. Now when she needs me the most I'm powerless to help her!"
Kiba glanced back at Holly and Shadow. The two lovers were holding hands and shaking their heads sadly at what Alex had just said.
"Kiba, I know you lost your mate. That is a feeling that I hope I never have to experience. Still I highly doubt it can compare with knowing that the love of your life is being raped by your worst enemy and you're too pathetic to do anything! " Alex said angrily. His gaze instantly softened as he realized what he had said. "Kiba, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have."
"No lad, it's okay." Kiba replied softly. He looked at Rylus who was visibly shocked by all that had just taken place. Kiba saw Holly and Shadow exchange knowing glances as they looked back up at him. Kiba then turned to face Rylus and spoke to him in the softest voice he could muster. "I don't ask much lad, but could you please get us some cloths for his hand."
It took Rylus a second to register what Kiba had just asked of him. His mind was still focused on what Alex had said and for a brief moment his features softened in sorrow. He then looked at Kiba and nodded slowly. "Yeah, sure I'll go get you some."
While Rylus left to get some cloths for Alex's hand Kiba tried to talk some sense into Alex. "Lad you were right about one thing. I don't know what you might be going through right now, but keep this in mind. Whatever emotions or feelings you are having, that is just a small portion of what the lass is feeling. Just one small part of what she is going through. Everything you feel she is going through is for you."
"I know. God don't you think I know that!" Alex said louder than he had intended. He softened his voice as Rylus returned. "Don't you think I know that."
Kiba nodded and patted Alex on the back before turning back towards Rylus. Rylus stood at the entrance of the cell. Kiba walked over the bars and held out his hand. "Don't worry we won't bite."
"If I was worried about you bitting I would've given you muzzles." Rylus spat. He passed his hand through the bar handing the cloths to Kiba. In the instant Kiba had the cloths in his hand he grasped Rylus's hand to where he couldn't pull himself away.
"What the hell?" Rylus cursed. Suddenly Shadow and Holly sprang forward and lunged at Rylus. Their hands were barely able to graze him before the barrier sent them flying backwards. Kiba released Rylus's hand and turned towards Kiba and Holly.
"What the hell were you two thinking?" Kiba yelled. He cursed beneath his breath as he glared at them.
Holly and Shadow looked towards the ground with guilty expressions on their faces.
"Rylus we need to get out of here. You can't be that heartless to just sit by here knowing what the Lord of...what Zanatos is doing to Brittany. We're sorry, but we'll do anything to get out of here so we can help her." Shadow finally said.
Rylus cursed as he looked at where Shadow's and Holly's claws had managed to dig into his flesh. "No, I might not have been heartless enough to leave you to rot, but after your little stunt I don't give a shit. I don't care what happens to that bitch or to you, but I will say this don't you ever call the the Lord by his name."
"There are no Lord's." Alex said facing Rylus. "There are just people. Zanatos, Celine, Gigas, even myself. If we can't protect the people we love, then how in the hell are we supposed to protect an entire nation? There are no Lord's, not anymore."
Kiba nodded and smiled softly at Alex. The lad has now become a man. Now for the performance of a life time. Please forgive me my Lord.
"You're right, you don't deserve to be called a Lord. The entire reason that Brittany's going through this is because of you. It's all your fault. You weren't strong enough to protect. She'd have been better off never meeting you, and a hell of a lot better off never giving her heart to you. It seems like all you've managed to do is rip it out and tear it too shreds. You've always been a weakling, just now your weakness has cost someone else this time."
Alex stared at him with shock at what he had just said. In a flash of movement Alex caught Kiba by the throat and pinned him against the wall. Kiba felt his throat being crushed as Alex seethed with anger.
Shit, even without his demonic strength he's stronger than I thought he'd be. Kiba thought as he struggled to free himself. Holly and Shadow instantly threw themselves on top of Alex, trying to pull him away from Kiba.
"My Lord, you must stop this!" Holly yelled. Shadow looked into Kiba's eyes and nodded.
"Do not call him Lord he is undeserving of that title. Still, he's undeserving of Brittany too, but he somehow managed to get her. Now look at the price she is paying." Shadow said. Holly looked shocked at Shadow's words but said nothing.
In one surge of power Alex managed to throw both the wolves off of him. In his blind rage he struck out at them, but missed them both. Alex then struck at Kiba who ducked beneath his attack. Alex's hand connected with the wall sending cracks running throughout it.
When Rylus saw what was happening he slowly began to back away from them. Alex's demonic energy began to pulse, stretching the boundaries of the barrier. Rylus shook his head in disbelief.
There's no way. He shouldn't be that strong without his powers. There's no way in hell he should be able to tap into his demonic powers with the barrier in place. Shit, if he gets his powers back I'm toast. Rylus thought as he quickly turned around and fled from the dungeon.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Alex roared. "What gives you the right to say that!"
All three of the wolves stopped in front of him and raised their hands in defeat. Their breathing was labored and Alex couldn't understand why they were smiling.
"What the hell do you think is so damn funny!"
"How predictable you are my Lord." Kiba said with a smirk. He then became serious as he, Holly, and Shadow glanced at each other and bowed in front of him. "Please forgive us my Lord. We didn't mean any of those things we said. I feel like a real bastard for saying it, but it was the only way to get you angry enough for your demonic powers to start pushing against the barrier."
"What do you mean?" Alex asked angrily still unsure what was going on.
"It's simple lad. You're demonic energy is unlike anything I've ever seen. Whenever you get mad it grows exponentially." Kiba offered.
"Still that doesn't excuse your actions."
"My Lord, allow me to ask you something."
"What!"
"Do you love her because of what's inside of her, or because your heart beats for her. Do you want to save her so that you can hold her in your arms, or so that whatever you put inside of her is safe?"
"What the hell are you...." Alex stopped as he realized what Kiba was talking about. He shook his head sadly and looked up at Kiba. The traces of anger and hate had left his eyes replaced with sadness and despair. "I could care less about what's inside of her. The only thing I care about is her. I want her to be safe, I want her with me and to be happy. Not to be with that monster."
Kiba nodded and he and the other's stood up. Holly smiled and spoke for all of them. "Then go get her."


Author's Note: Heh, heh, heh...sorry. I've been a bad author. I've been busy studying for a chem test and learning some drill commands for ROTC, so I haven't been paying that much attention to the chapter's before I post them. Okay let me clear up something right now, Aurora is Holly, or rather Holly is Aurora. I usually change Aurora's name to Holly before I post the chapter, but I forgot because I was in a rush today. So please forgive me for that, I'm correcting it right now, and once again sorry. Please review if you get the chance, and let me know what you think. ^_^
