Chapter 2
"Mimir and Ruby"
----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------
It been a week since Kismet, Apollo, and Wanderer left for Kismet's quest, and they got lost in the forest between Apollo's home village of Morgendorf and the large city of Siti.
"Why did we take this way again?" Apollo asked.
"Ask Wanderer, not me." Kismet replied.
"Because the roads are crowded with people, besides this is a short cut." Wanderer said.
"A short cut you say. Some short cut, we'll lost. If we taken the roads, we'll be in Siti already." Apollo complained.
"I know someone who lives in this woods. They will help us."
"Where do they live in?"
"Right over there." He said as he pointed to a clearing with a small wooden cottage. Around the house was a picnic fence with a garden in it.
A old elf about the age of 78 came out of the house. He was wearing a long brown robe, and his long, white hair was tied with a matching brown leather string.
"Wanderer is that you. You scoundrel, you got to be brave to saw your face around here." Said the old man.
"Mimir, good to see you too." Wanderer said.
"And who are this people, don't tell me the greatest loner in the land has partners now?"
"No. I just helping him, and he tagged along."
"Hi, I'm Apollo, and this is Kismet." Said Apollo.
"Hello." Kismet said.
"Is that..." Mimir said because he saw Kismet's sword, "It got to be."
"Yes, that the Sword of the Fairy Queen." Wanderer replied.
"Can I see it?"
"Sure." Kismet said as he pulled out the sword and handed it to Mimir.
"I thought I never see the day. This is more beautiful than in the stories."
Mimir handed back the sword to Kismet. He put it back in the sword's holder.
"Come in. I have Ruby make us some food."
"How is she?" Wanderer asked.
"Fine, fine. Ruby come out here."
A twenty-seven year old half-elf woman came out of the cottage. She was wearing a long hunter green dress with long sleeves, and a high neckline. Her curly, red hair came down to the middle of her back, but a headband kept it out of her face.
"Yes, papa." She said.
"You remember Wanderer." Mimir said.
"How do you do, Mr. Wanderer?"
"And this are his friends, Apollo and Kismet."
"How do you do?"
"They are going to stay for dinner, so why don't you make us something to eat."
"Yes, papa." She said as she went back into the house to cook something.
"She looks like her mother." Wanderer said.
"But taller." Mimir replied.
"Yes, taller. Last time I saw her, she was 4, right?"
"Yes. Let's go in."
"Okay. You two, come on."
(
"So, they went to see Mimir. This can be trouble." Said King Robert.
"Yes, your majesty. One of my spies are watching them right now." Said Snott.
"This can be bad. He knows to much." Said Katie who was listening in King Robert and Snott's conversation with Knows-A-Lot.
"We simply destroy him." Said Knows-A-Lot.
"It's not that easy. He's a wizard, and knows many spells. He's also a scholar, so he knows a lot."
"I thought you where talking about Snott."
"He will can be killed easily, but not now. After he finish his last mission. It the least we can do."
"Send in Katie." Said King Robert from his throne room, not knowing that she was listening in to his conversation.
Katie walked in the throne room.
"You want to see me, your highness." Katie said.
"Katie, I want you to make a monster for Snott."
"Yes highness. Want kind of monster do you want?"
"I want a monster that two story tall with four arms and legs. And the fingers and toes are claws. Oh yeah, I want it to have one eye and sharp teeth." Snott said.
"Okay."
She took her necklace from around her neck, and laid it on the ground and kneeled by it. The necklace was a small black crystal on a gold chain.
"Crystal of evil and darkness hear my voice," Katie said. Then the crystal rose straight up, "With taste of your master's blood," she pricked her pointer finger on the crystal and it turn blood red, "Make me a monster of my imagination and of my mind," she placed her hand around the crystal but not touching it, and close her eyes, "And set it free."
A light came from the crystal and opened in a V. In the V was the monster of Snott's description. Then light wrapped around the monster and into a ball. The ball fell to the ground and turned red.
"That was cool." Said Snott in amazement of what just happen.
Katie got up and said, "To use it, just throw it and say 'Release monster of the dark crystal, and hear my command because I'm your master, now.'"
(
"Interesting," said Mimir who just heard Kismet's story while they ate supper, "So, you don't know what this guy looks like or even his name?"
"Yes," replied Kismet.
"I bet I can help you."
"How?"
"You need to see the oldest woman in the world, that's how."
"Where do I find her?"
"Like me see, it's mid-spring, right?"
"Yes."
"So she's in her cottage...um...where was it again?"
"Was it the one by the beach?" Asked Ruby.
"No, no. That's her summer home. Now I remember. It's the one by the waterfall of the rainbow."
"Oh! It was so beautiful up there, but I hated the way up there."
"What's wrong with the way up there?" Apollo asked.
"Let just say it's not a scroll in the park, but it's worth it. It's the most beautiful place in the world."
"You been there?" Asked Kismet.
"Yes. Papa and I go went a couple of years ago."
"I remember that. We went up so I can learn about some magic spells of youthfulness, but I never learned them." Said Mimir.
"I wonder why."
"She was a looker for her age. She didn't look a day older than two hundred."
"She was nice."
"One of the sweetest woman that you ever will know."
"I doubt it." Said Wanderer.
"That's just my opinion."
"So how do we get there?" Kismet asked.
"It easy. You go to Siti, take the road going to the east for 67.4 miles. If you see a fork in the road, you went to far, go 20 and an half steps back. Then you turn left into the forest. You will hit a river in a day or two, follow to the west. Then you'll probably get there in a week or two."
"What," Apollo said, "That's confusing."
"I know I come with you. So won't get lost."
"Can I go with you?" Asked Ruby.
"Sure. The more the merrier."
"Wait. I only agree that the boy came with me, but somehow I got him. I don't need two more people with us." Wanderer said.
"I have a feeling you will be traveling with a lot more people."
"What did I get myself into?"
"Hey, it going be a blast. It will be an adventure of a lifetime, that will be remember for ages in story books." Said Apollo.
"Great! Now they going to make a legend out of me."
"You're already are one." Said Mimir.
"As an loner, but know I stuck with a group of people."
"Don't sweat it. It going to be fun." Said Apollo.
"I don't like fun."
"You need a life and I going to get you one."
"I already have a perfect life. I don't need you screwing it up."
"To late it's already screwed up," Said Mimir, "Ruby, can you get us some more water please?"
"Yes, papa."
Ruby got up and went to the kitchen of the cottage, and came back.
"Papa, I need to go the well to get some more water." She said.
"Okay, Ruby." Mimir replied.
Ruby left the cottage with a pail to get some water. Five minutes later, they heard a scream.
"Ruby." Mimir said as he got up and ran to the out the door.
"I coming with you." Said Wanderer as he got up.
"Let's follow them." Said Apollo as he grabbed Kismet's arm and led him where Ruby was.
Mimir ran to Ruby.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"That." She said as she pointed behind him.
"Whoa!" Apollo said as he ran to them and he saw the tall one eye monster.
"What is that?" Kismet said.
"I don't know, but I know it does belong here," Apollo said as he take his bow from around his shoulder, "Arrow of fire."
The arrow hit the monster, and he caught on fire. But was blown out by the four arms of the monster by making a great gust of wind.
"You think you can defect my monster that easily," said Snott who walked out of the forest.
"Who are you?" asked Apollo.
"That's the general of King's Richard's army," Kismet replied, "Snott. That's his name."
"Prepare for your DOOM!"
A cat-girl walks out of the woods saying, "Doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom..."
"Can you make her stop that? It's annoying," Wanderer said.
"That's all Maybelle, you can go now." Snott said.
"Yes master." Maybelle said.
"Why are you here?" asked Kismet.
"To kill you and Mimir the wizard elf."
"You think you can destroy me, huh? It will take more than a one-eye monster to do that," Mimir said.
"I feel the dark crystal of evil magic have something to do with this, daddy," said Ruby.
"You don't mean."
"Yes, I do."
"We have a problem."
"What?" said Apollo.
"Ruby tell them."
"That monster is not normal. It's made from the dark crystal of evil. Which means only the light crystal of peace can destroy it."
"So, we can't stop it?"
"No, I have the crystal here," she said as she pulled it out of her shirt, "But I need you to weaken it for me."
"We can do that."
"Right," said Kismet.
"Fire doesn't work, so do you have something up your sleeve?"
"Maybe," Kismet pulled out his sword and hold it with both hands in front of him, "Sword of the Fairy Queen, help me!"
The sword started to glow, then Kismet started to glow. He raised his sword to the air.
"I see. The element of lighting came to me aid. Lighting flash!"
Lighting stuck his sword and he brought it down with the point facing the monster. Then, lighting from the sword shot at the monster. Lighting was all around the monster and it was getting electrocuted.
"Now, Ruby."
"Okay," Ruby said as she placed her hands in front of her, "Crystal of peace and light I summons you," the crystal raised and the point stood straight up between her hands, "Hear the voice of you master and send the monster of the dark crystal of evil back into the mind of its master and let it never to be release into this or any world every again."
The crystal glowed. Then light from it surrounded the monster and it form into the ball. The ball began to shrink and then disappear and with it the monster.
(
Katie was walking down the hall with Knows-it-all, when she screamed.
"What's wrong?" Knows-a-lot asked.
"Nothing. Snott's monster came back into my mind." Katie said.
"What?"
"The light crystal of peace sent it back to me."
"Good. Snott has failed."
"Yes. Very good."
(
"What you have defended my monster?" Snott said in surprise.
"Yes. It wasn't that hard." Said Apollo.
"You haven't seen the last of me." Snott quickly left.
"Let's follow him," Said Kismet.
"Na. Let him go." Said Apollo.
"You have a lot to learn," said Wanderer.
"For what?"
"You will find out in due time."
"What?"
"Come on old friend. We need our rest if we start our journey to the oldest woman in the world's house," said Mimir.
"What do you mean, we?"
"I see that you need Ruby help, so I going with you because I don't want my little girl with a group of men by herself."
"Why?" asked Kismet.
"I trust you and Wanderer with my Ruby, but Apollo is a whole different."
"What do you mean by that? I'm trustworthy. I will do nothing to your daughter, scouts honor," Apollo said as he did the scout sign.
"I won't trust him either," said Wanderer.
"Wanderer, you don't trust anyone," said Mimir.
"And that's a bad thing."
