Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Accepting Loss ( Chapter 9 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
“A monster, is someone who kills without purpose,” a voice said, breaking the morbid silence. Everyone turned to see the mage who had revealed Torin’s secret, standing out in front of the mages and staring at the crestfallen form of Alex.
“Be quiet Raza! Your treachery has gone far enough. I’ve had enough of your treacherous words!” Torin angrily yelled.
“You be quiet and let the lad talk. He seems a Hell of a lot wiser than you could ever be. So I’d suggest you shut up,” Kiba growled. Before Torin could protest, Alex looked towards Raza and asked.
“What do you mean? I was about to kill your master, and yet you do not think I am a monster.”
“To be honest, he had it coming. Only a fool would tempt the wrath of the Demon Lord, especially with promises of returning the woman you loved. That alone was reason enough for you to take his life away. Everyone knows how much that girl meant to you, it’s only natural that you would want to bring her back no matter what the cost,” Torin explained. “You said that you were willing to give up your life to bring her back, but you also said that you were willing to take other lives to bring her back. Why is that?“
”It’s because the only way for necromancy to work is by sacrificing lives to bring back the dead. You might not consider me a monster now, but I don’t care how many lives I have to take if it will bring her back. You were right when you said she meant a lot to me. She was and still is my life. There is nothing I wouldn’t do to bring her back. I will become a monster if I have to.”
Raza smiled as he looked first at Torin then at Alex. “I have heard many stories about the Demon Lord. I have heard how he was the reason the two greatest mages in existence were taken from this world. I have heard that he is evil incarnate and the Devil reborn. As of late, I’ve been hearing how his devotion to his mate brought him back from the brink of despair and helped hi to free this realm from Zanatos’s control. I see now, that the last one still holds truer now more so than ever before. I will give you a bit of advice that the Archmage once told me. A monster, is someone who kills without reason. You will slaughter mass numbers for one person. You will allow those who you once protected to condemn you. You will do this, all for the purpose of bringing your love back. Am I correct?”
“Heh, you sound as if you know more about this than you let on. You are correct in your assumptions though. I will do anything, no matter what the cost, if it means I can bring her back,” Alex answered truthfully with just a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“In that case, you are no monster. If you ever do find a way to bring her back, you will be called a monster, that I can assure. As long as you don’t lose sight of your goal, and as long as you don’t let your heart fall into darkness, then no matter what people say, you will not be a monster,” Raza calmly stated.
“You’re far crueler than I, Raza. Doing this will only prolong his foolish dreams of trying to bring her back. At least my way, he would’ve given into the fact that he can’t do anything for her. She’s lost to the darkness, and if he doesn’t soon realize that, he too will be lost, “ Torin announced.
“Shut up!” Shadow yelled while delivering a swift kick to Torin’s face. Torin cursed as blood dripped down from his nose, which was evidently broken by Shadow’s kick. “I’ve had just about enough of you. What kind of leader are you, to be so blind not to see what your younger apprentices can easily see. You may hold a grudge against Alex, but nothing he’s done to the mages could ever warrant such transgression as this.”
“No, let him be,” Alex stated as he slowly turned towards Torin.
“But Alex,” Aurora protested.
Kiba held onto her shoulder and shook his head softly. “Let him be lass.”
Alex clenched his hands tightly as he glared at Torin. He took a deep breath as if he was about to say something, but then turned towards Raza. “I thank you, Raza. Your actions have saved the lives of you and your fellow mages.”
Raza smirked and nodded in regards to Alex’s words. “Thank you my Lord.”
“You truly are wise beyond your years. I wish we had met under more pleasurable circumstances,” Alex continued.
“What could be more pleasurable than the death of your human wench? You stole the two greatest mages from this world, all due to your selfish actions. Now, you will know the true meaning of loss. Think about it, oh great Demon Lord. You deserve this. Think of all the families you have torn apart, all the loved ones you have killed. It’s about time something happened to teach you the meaning of loss.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about! This lad has suffered far worse than you could ever imagine!” Kiba argued, momentarily forgetting his speech on letting Alex handle this for himself. “You are supposed to be the leader of the mages, yet you act like a spoiled child.”Torin was about to protest when Alex’s voice broke through their argument. At first it was barely a whisper, making them wonder if he had said anything at all. The entire room grew quiet, all eyes focusing on Alex’s form. His hair covered his eyes, but the slight trembling of his body was an evident sign of his conflicting emotions.
“Get out,” Alex softly whispered. At first, everyone stared dumbly at him. Unsure of wether or not he meant what he had said, or if they had even heard him at all. After a brief second of silence, their answer came to them in an ear shattering roar.
“I said get out!” Alex roared, arching his back and extending his taloned hands on either side of him as he did so. The sheer force of his voice, shook the foundation of the castle and echoed throughout its many halls and corridors. Everyone was both stunned and terrified by Alex’s outburst. Their fear held them to their spots. Not a single person moved as Alex scanned the terrified faces.
Kiba knew that look in Alex’s eyes, and even more so, he knew what had caused it. “Listen, if we don’t get the mages out now, it’s going to become a blood bath in here,” Kiba whispered to Shadow and Aurora.
Both the young wolves nodded as they started to move towards the mages. “I think you guys better do as he says,” Aurora meekly suggested to Raza.
“No, if they don’t want to leave, then I’ll make them leave!” Alex roared. His white eyes fell upon Torin, a malicious smile creeping upon his lips. “Starting, with this one.”
Before anyone could stop him, Alex’s black form moved like and ominous shadow towards the quivering form of Torin. Torin didn’t even have time to scream as Alex stabbed his taloned fingers into Torin’s back and hurled him into the group of mages. The mages scattered, those who unable to move were met with the flying form of Torin who collided with them with incredible force.
It was now Shadow and Aurora’s turns to stand open mouthed and shocked at Alex’s actions. Kiba grimaced as he yanked them both towards him and away from the mages. “Shit, this isn’t going to end well,” Kiba cursed.
Aurora was about to ask what was going on when Alex’s commanding voice echoed through the room. “Get out of my sight, and never return. You are unwelcome here, and know this. The only reason I am letting any of you leave with your lives, is because killing you is too nice a punishment.”
The mages didn’t need any further encouraging to leave. They moved quickly towards the main doors, not even waiting to open the enormous doors by themselves, they hastily opened the doors with magic. Two mages lagged behind the rest. The red haired form of Raza, and the bleeding and disheveled form of Torin, who Raza was helping to carry out the doors. Alex glared at them until they reached the edge of the doors. It was then that Torin gave one final insult.
“At least my way he wouldn’t have lived in denial. The sooner he figures out that she is gone and there’s nothing he can do, the sooner he will get on with his life. She’s dead, that’s all there is to it. I may seem heartless, but in all honesty I’m tired of you giving a bad name to this realm. Even though you might’ve given up your title as Demon Lord, the other creatures of this realm still look up to you as their Lord. With you weeping about losing one insignificant woman, it’s just pathetic. She’s probably in the Nether realm suffering in torment for committing the worst sin possible. She when she gave her heart to a Devil, her fate was sealed,” Torin said with a confident smirk on his face.
Alex’s eyes widened with hatred. A feral growl erupted from his throat as he lunged at Torin. “Shut up you bastard!”
Raza couldn’t believe Torin’s impudence, but nevertheless he knew that Torin spoke the truth. Just as Alex was about to descend upon them, Raza waved his free hand and closed the doors to Alex’s castle. As the doors closed Torin’s smirk increased as he continued.
“The reason you lose your temper oh great one, is because you know what I say is true.”
Torin lost his smirk as the door to Alex’s castle splintered and cracked beneath the impact of his attack. Torin breathed a sigh of relief, due to the door remaining intact. Still, it was apparent that he was shaken by what had just happened.
“You know you had that coming, right?” Raza asked as he was about to cast the teleportation spell.
“Just shut up and get us home,” Torin muttered weakly. “You’re still not out of trouble Raza. Do not think that you’re actions will go unpunished.”
“So evidently it would’ve been to my advantage to let him kill you,” Raza continued.
“Don’t forget you were the one who got me into this predicament. If you hadn’t suggested that we come here in the first place..,”
“I said we should check it out, we owed it to him. I know you may hate him, but that man has been through Hell and back for this woman. You had no right to do what you did to him.”
“That matters little now, just get me away from this wretched place,” Torin instructed. Raza nodded and in a flash both the mages disappeared from sight.
Alex’s claws were still embedded into the door as he slumped against it. Shadow and Aurora stared dumbly at each other, both unsure of what to do. Kiba was the only one who seemed to know what was going on. Kiba stepped towards Alex, halting only for a moment to decide what he should do. Once his mind was made up he turned back towards the two confused wolf demons and motioned for them to come.
“Come on, we’d better make sure he’s okay,” Shadow said softly, grabbing Aurora’s hand and starting towards Alex.
“From what I saw, he’s not the one who needs to be checked on,” Aurora said dryly, but inwardly knowing what Shadow meant. There are two kinds of wounds. Those that affect the physical being of a person, and those that affect the emotional being of a person. Torin played a very cruel and very dangerous game with Alex’s emotions and his heart. Brittany, what would you do if you were here? There’s got to be some way to ease his suffering, but how?
“I am the reason she is dead. I am the one who killed her.”
Alex’s words made the demon’s blood run cold. They exchanged fleeting glances at each other, but their attention was quickly drawn back to Alex as his demonic energy began to pulsate violently. Alex’s hands dug deeper into the wooden door as a long howl, full of anger and sorrow, emitted itself from his throat.
“Kiba, what’s going on?” Aurora asked, covering her ears with her hands, trying to drown out the heart aching cry coming from the person she had once believed to be emotionless and heartless.
“He’s finally accepted it,” Kiba plainly stated. He stared at the ground to hide his expression as he continued. “He has finally realized he cannot bring her back.”
