Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Storm of the Heart ( Chapter 11 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Aurora walked throughout the darkened castle. She shivered slightly as the sound of thunder came crashing down from the sky. She looked out past the stained glass window to see darkened skies. She could hear the rushing sound of wind and knew that the storm would be upon them in a matter of minutes.
“Get a hold of yourself, girl,” Aurora said to herself as she tried to shake off the ominous feelings that was slowly creeping its way through her. Although I can’t really say I blame myself. Everyone else stayed in town due to the freak thunder storm that popped up. Now, it’s just me and the others here in this enormous castle. Every since Brittany’s death, its as if this castle is showing the feelings that Alex can’t express himself. It’s so dark and dreary in here. Even with all the candles lit, an unnatural darkness seems to have shrouded this castle.
Another loud crash of thunder shook the part of the castle that Aurora was in, causing her to jump up in surprise. She held onto her heart as she tried to steady her breathing after being scared. She couldn’t help but laugh a little after realizing that it was only thunder that had scared her. Still, her laughter was not out of joy as much as it was out of nervousness.
“If I keep thinking like this, I’m going to send myself to an early grave,” Aurora said shaking her head. She instantly regretted saying those words as more thoughts of Alex and Brittany came flooding into her head. I’d better go see what Shadow’s up. Right now I don’t feel like being alone. Also, I’m not too fond of thunder storms. Besides, who wants to be alone after all that’s happened in such a short time. It’s as if someone’s mocking us. Every time there’s a chance for happiness, it’s taken away before we ever get a chance to grasp it.
With that thought, Aurora made her way towards the front of the castle. Every creak and moan of the castle made her jump. When she finally found Shadow, who was sitting on a window ledge and leaning against it, she nearly collapsed into his arms.
“What’s got you so spooked?” Shadow softly asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
“I don’t know. I guess I just spooked myself with my own thoughts. I kept thinking how dreary and ominous this castle feels now that Brittany’s gone,” Aurora admitted as she snuggled closer to him. “The storm doesn’t help matters either.”
Shadow nodded and gazed back out the window. Aurora could tell that something was troubling him. “What’s wrong?”
Shadow turned to her and shook his head. “Nothing, I’m just thinking, that’s all.”
“Liar.”
“What makes you think that I’m lying?”
“The fact that whenever you’re worried you also furrow your eyebrows,” Aurora told him. She reached up and stroked his face gently, smiling as she asked him once more. “So tell me what’s on your mind.”
Shadow sighed softly and looked back out the window as he spoke. “It’s nothing really, just something that caught my interest.”
“Shadow, I love you, but if you don’t tell me what’s on your mind right now I’m going to have to hurt you!” Aurora playfully threatened.
Shadow smiled and held up his hands in mock defense. “Okay, I give. Like I said, it’s nothing much. It’s just that, this storm, even though the sky was clear earlier, it just came out of nowhere. A storm of this caliber should’ve come with some warning. “
”Yeah, but that’s nothing to worry about.”
“I know, but the storm didn’t happen until he went outside,” Shadow added in an ominous tone.
“He, do you mean Alex?”
“Yes, but its inconceivable that one man’s emotions could do something so drastic as to cause a powerful storm like this. There’s no way, no matter who that person is. Still, the fact is, the moment he left the storm started. He stormed out of here like a man possessed. Kiba and I both tried to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen to us.”
“Wait, you mean Alex is out in that storm!”
“Yes,” Shadow replied, shocked by Aurora’s reaction.
“Well we’ve got to get him back inside. Demon Lord or not, that weathers not fit for anyone,” Aurora insisted, already getting out of Shadow’s lap.
Shadow grabbed hold of her wrist and turned her to face him. “He needs to be alone Aurora.”
“Not like this he doesn’t. Brittany would kill me if she knew I let him go out like this. Alex doesn’t need to be alone anymore. He’s been alone all his life, now more than ever. Right now he needs to know that he’s not alone.”
“Aurora! Aurora!” Shadow called as Aurora yanked her arm free and ran towards the front doors.Aurora drove out the images of Shadow’s hurt expression as she raced from the castle. I’m sorry Shadow, but I can’t let Alex do anything stupid. You’re right, it doesn’t make sense that Alex’s emotions could cause such weird things to happen. Still, something’s not right. I don’t know why I feel compelled to do this, but right now I know I have to find Alex.
With that thought, Aurora raced through the darkened woods towards the direction Shadow had last seen Alex go. Despite the strong winds that seemed to drive Aurora back with every step she took she still continued trudging through the darkness. The rain pelted her body, each droplet feeling like a tiny icy dagger digging into her skin. The branches of the trees swayed to and fro, moving with the violent winds. Aurora barely reacted in time to jump over a falling tree branch that had collapsed due to the weather.
“Shit, it’s like damn forest is trying to keep me from getting to him,” Aurora muttered as she tried to wipe the water from her eyes to clear her vision. Suddenly the wind picked up around her, encircling her form and almost lifting her off of the ground. Aurora tried to grab hold of a tree to steady herself, but the moment she went to grab onto it, the tree was pulled out of the ground of the suction of the wind. Aurora flipped around in midair to avoid the tree, which was sent hurling towards her, only to see another tree being ripped out of the ground right beside her. Aurora twisted her body and scanned the area. Silently cursing as she saw three more trees being ripped out of the ground and sent flying towards the swirling vortex above her.
Aurora looked to sky for a brief second and cursed. “Someone up there must really hate me!”
As if on cue, lightning ripped from the sky, descending upon the spot where Aurora stood.
“Fuck!”
Aurora jumped out of the way of the deadly bolt of energy, only to have the uprooted trees suddenly be sent hurling towards her. The ground exploded behind her where the lightning crashed, sending chunks of dirt and mud flying everywhere. Aurora used the force of the explosion behind her to propel herself towards the first tree. She dug her claws into it and sent it flying behind her and went immediately to do the same thing with the next one. She was about to repeat the same trick when another sudden gust of wind ripped another tree out of the ground and sent it hurling towards her. Aurora was unable to dodge the flying tree, and was subsequently sent flying as the tree collided with her.
Aurora fell to the ground weakly as she looked towards the swirling vortex of wind. Several ominous looking trees encircled the vortex, and Aurora was sure that whatever was causing this phenomena wouldn’t stop until she was dead. Aurora went to stand but winced lightly as pain spread throughout her chest. Her hands instinctively went to her ribs as she realized the tree that had collided with her must’ve hurt her worse than she had thought.
Crap, I won’t be able to dodge those trees until my ribs mend, and I don’t exactly have the luxury of just sitting down and letting them heal. I don’t know what’s causing this, but whatever it is I’m getting really pissed at it.
Aurora glanced back at the vortex and noticed that the trees had begun spinning faster and faster in the air as the winds picked up speed. Right as the vortex launched the first tree another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, this time, illuminating the darkened area in front of Aurora.
“Alex!” Aurora yelled as she saw the form of the Demon Lord standing with back turned to her, facing a deep ravine. He was completely oblivious to all that surrounded him, but when he heard Aurora’s voice he turned around quickly with an expression of pure shock etched across his face.
“Brittany!” Alex whispered as he turned towards the dark forest.
The moment Alex turned towards Aurora the winds died down and the rains ceased. The trees collapsed to the ground and the forest once again became quiet. Aurora didn’t know wether to laugh or cry at the strange occurrence that took place right before her very eyes.
“Dammit!” Aurora cursed in gasps as she tried to regain her breath. “I hate it when Shadow’s right.”
Alex’s eyes became cold as ice, the light that flashed in them for the brief second when the storm ceased was smothered out. His clothes were soaking wet, his white shirt and black pants clung tightly to his skin and water dripped from his face. He lowered his head and glared at Aurora, his eyes glowing with rage as he spoke. “What are you doing here?”
“I was, coming to check on you,” Aurora retorted. She was unfazed by his anger and boldly stepped towards him. “Demon Lord or not, you shouldn’t have been out in this storm.”
Alex’s eyes widened for a second as Aurora reached up and tried to move the wet hair out of his eyes. He grabbed hold of her wrist, stopping her from continuing. “I didn’t care about the storm. It had little effect on me.”
Author's Note: Just a little filler update. Hope you guys don't mind. My mind's fried as of late. Way too many late nights playing video games, waiting for friends to come back from prom, pranking friends on prom night, and working on this story. I've got so many idea's running through my head that I'm not sure what to do first. My main trouble right now is lengthening out the overall story itself. I know what I want to happen, it's just that if I don't add somethings in between the points, the story will be way too short. After this chapter however, the main plot of the story will begin to reveal itself and the story will start picking up pace. So wait for about 3 more updates before you give up hope on the story. Well, catch ya later, bye. Also, reviews are welcome as always.
