Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Meeting of Elders ( Chapter 37 )

“You’re late,” a voice that could only belong to Zemnas declared. Before Lucia could explain the reasons to his absence, Zemnas spoke for him. “Did you see anything interesting, while you were using the all seeing eyes?”
Lucia stiffened at Zemnas’s comment. He wondered how Zemnas already knew about. His first thought was Kalidus, but he quickly realized that it couldn’t have been him. Kalidus was right there next to him the moment he quit using the all seeing eyes. There was no possible way he could’ve gone and told the elders what Lucia had done, and been able to return in time. To Lucia, there was only one possible solution on how they knew this. Lucia peered more closely into Zemnas’s eyes. In the darkness, it was hard for Lucia to tell at first. Now, after his eyes had become adjusted, he could see the faintest glow in Zemnas’s eyes, confirming that he too, had been using the all seeing eyes.
Lucia smirked, allowing his eyes to glow just as Zemnas had, before he replied to Zemnas’s question. “I saw only what needed to be seen. Surely, you can relate to that Zemnas.”
“How dare you mock the rules, Lucia! You know that you are not supposed to use the all seeing eye. Only the elders are entitled to that ability now,” Zemnas yelled.
“That reminds me, just why did you set forth that rule, Zemnas? Was it to keep everyone from knowing what in the Hell’s really going on in the Demon Realm?”
An evil smile crept over Zemnas’s lips as he calmed himself down. He took a deep breath before replying. “Just what is, going on in the Demon Realm, Lucia?”
“Do not play dumb with me, Zemnas. I know what is going on! What I don’t know, is why you are keeping this such a secret? I also what to know, why you haven’t done anything to stop this monster? Surely, even someone like you must have some form of a conscious.”
“How is it, that you know so much about what’s going on, Lucia? We banned the use of the all seeing eye, quite a while ago. Yet, it seems as if you’ve been using it against our will. Is that how you found out about the situation in the Demon Realm, using the all seeing eye?” a female voice broke out, in the middle of Zemnas’s and Lucia’s argument.
Lucia turned toward the source of the voice, acknowledging the only friendly face among those of the elders. A woman with dark brown skin, shoulder length brown hair, and brown eyes listened intently for his answer. “Yes and no. I had first found out about the situation when I overheard one of the residents of this realm speaking about it. Evidently, he felt like bragging about what he had done and about the monstrosity he had created. That was when I first began to truly question the ban that was placed on our all seeing eye. That same night, I used my eye and saw for myself what was truly happening in the realm. After speaking with Brittany, and knowing what I do, I cannot believe you have allowed it to progress this far.”
“Well, evidently we don’t need to do anything. It seems you have been doing more than enough meddling within the confides of the Demon Realm to destroy anything we would have done. You should consider yourself lucky that we haven’t banished you to the lower level to serve out your punishment. Now, just who did you hear this from?” another voice asked. This time it came from a man with dark blue hair that was slicked back into a pony tail. Out of all the elders, this one’s eyes were by far the creepiest. His eyes were solid black, void of any emotion or life.
“Take a wild guess. You know who it is. You know who created that monster, Tristan!” Lucia replied angrily.
“Lucia, tell me, why did you do what you did?” the female voice asked once again. “Tell me, why did you start meddling with the affairs concerning the Demon Realm?”
Lucia didn’t hesitate to give her an answer. Even he was surprised by the boldness he displayed when he answered her. “I did it for that girl. I did it for Brittany. I did it for us, in the long run. I, unlike you, couldn’t just sit idly by and watch what you know is going to happen, happen to the Demon Realm. I’m surprised at Shimera. Out of all these people, I would’ve thought you would’ve hade the heart to do something about this.”
Shimera’s eyes widened at Lucia’s comment. For a moment, there was a genuine look of remorse on her face. She glanced away from Lucia, unable to meet his gaze once more. This caused Lucia to begin to doubt that she even had any say in the matter.
That’s right. Out of all of them, she would’ve been the one to speak out against them. So maybe the others didn’t give her a chance to do anything about it. I wouldn’t put it past Zemnas, but still, what does he plan to gain by allowing this to go on?
“I suggest you drop this matter, Lucia, and tell us what you were doing meddling in the Demon Realm. Last time I checked, you had told us that you weren’t doing anything in the Demon Realm. You explicitly told us that you hadn’t interfered with anything,” Zemnas declared.
“You already know what’s going on.”
“Actually, I don’t. I don’t know what in the Hell’s going on! You’ve fucked with the Demon Realm so long now, that I can’t even be sure the book is correct anymore. It seems that people who are supposed to die aren’t and those that aren’t supposed to die, do.”
Lucia’s mood suddenly darkened at Zemnas’s words. His smile left his face, and for the first time in a long while, he honestly wasn’t sure he was right in his actions. At first, he had been spited by anger, then by a desire to help his realm, but the way Zemnas was acting made him question whether or not his actions would actually do any good.
Zemnas could sense Lucia’s sudden incisiveness and decided to continue pressing this, hoping to break him. “If you choose not to answer, I can have them bring Brittany in for questioning. I’m sure that we could get her to talk about her boyfriend’s recent delusions.”
With that comment, Lucia’s blood boiled over. “She can’t remember anything dammit! Leave her out of this!”
“Well evidently she does have something to do with this. It seems you are using her to get to Alex, are you not? Besides, if she can’t remember, we’ll make her remember. Don’t forget Lucia, we can be very persuasive when we need to be.”
“You bastard! She can’t remember anything. If she does it would ruin everything!” Lucia exclaimed.
“Well then, I suggest you tell us what is going on so that we won’t be forced to take drastic measures,” Tristan said with a malicious smile.
“Leave her out of this. We all know that she has nothing to do with this. She is a victim in this thing. A victim that could’ve been spared.”
“Tell me, Lucia, if she has nothing to do with this. Then why has everything that the books foretold and have been correct in doing so, for so long, now seem to be false. People that should be dead aren’t, and those who were supposed to die are still alive. So tell me how this girl cannot be connected to this,” Zemnas asked.
“Funny that you should mention the books Zemnas. Its amazing just what all you can learn by reading them. Evidently, this isn’t the first time that people are dying when they weren’t supposed to. Or, living, when they were destined to die. Do not forget, Zemnas. I was the one who recorded Brittany’s name into the book. So I, probably more so than anyone else, know what you’ve been doing.”
“What do you mean by that exactly? Please don’t tell me you are really trying to threaten me,” Zemnas laughed.
“No, but I am wondering just how much the other elders really know about this. I am also wondering what you’re real intentions were. “
”Lucia, don’t question Zemnas’s motives. He has been trying to solve this problem in the Demon Realm. But we don’t know how to deal with it, without directly interfering with the Demon Realm,” Shimera stated. She then lowered her head before continuing. “As you, yourself have done.”
“Shimera, that is enough. We need not explain ourselves to him. He does not need to know our intentions because they do not affect him. What he’s doing however, could put both of our realms in danger,” Tristan argued.
“Shimera, you’re right. For eons we have kept ourselves isolated from the other realms. Never before has there ever been a need to interfere with the affairs of the other realms. To them, we do not exist. This new threat, however, is one that has power to not only destroy the Demon Realm, but to also affect our realm as well. He is smart. Everything I have tried to do, he has successfully countered. He always seems to be one step ahead of me, except for now.”
Zemnas raised his eyebrow in a look of question as he gazed at Lucia. “What do you mean? You sound as if you’ve been playing a chess game with this Devil.”
“You could say I have. It is a game of strategy, one that I am losing as of now. Both of us have realized that Alex is the key to our victory. Both of are trying to guide him in a way that will better benefit ourselves. Yet, up until now, everything I’ve tried to do and everything I’ve done, has only served to help bring him closer to his goals. It is as if someone knows my thoughts before even I do, and then ends up telling them to that Devil. As if he knew before hand what I was going to do, so that he could stay one step ahead of me.”
“Up until now, what did you mean by that?” Tristan asked.
“Anything I have done, or have tried to do, he has been able to turn into his favor. Yet, when someone else within the realm tries to accomplish the same goal, they are able to. It is as if, when I try to do something, someone is watching my every move, and knows what I am going to do, before I do it.
“Are you trying to insinuate anything?” Zemnas asked.
“I’m just saying that it has been awfully convenient that he was ready and prepared, for everything that I had set into motions. It’s almost as if someone with an all seeing eye had foreseen it, and told it to him.”
“Heh, you must really be an idiot to believe something like that. Why on earth do you believe that we would help that Devil? Are you really that stupid, to stand before us, and declare us of doing something wrong?”
“I declare only what I believe to be true and nothing more. The truth is, is that when I looked into the book, I saw that someone else had survived when they were supposed to have perished. The Devil took hold of him, and it was that day, that you first began to change. That was when we were restricted from using the all seeing eye. You cannot tell me that all that is, is nothing more than a coincidence!”
“Fine, if it’ll get you to shut up and be quite spouting these ludicrous ideas, then I’ll tell you the reasons behind our actions. After I do however, you will tell us what you’ve been doing in the Demon Realm. Is that clear?”
“Heh, sure, I guess that sounds fair. I’m dying to see how you intend to explain this one. So tell me Zemnas, just why have you become a complete asshole. Ever since a Devil has been unleashed, its like the dark side of everyone’s nature has been unleashed as well.”
