Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Cherish ( Chapter 46 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Alex was surprised that he could even speak. The pain that he felt over the loss of Brittany and of his child, now seemed silly compared to the suffering this poor child must’ve gone through. She lost both her parents at such a young age. Alex was shocked that after all the tragedy she had endured, she was still as sweet as innocent as she was. It was as if the darkness of this world, couldn’t corrupt her beautiful soul. It was then that a new idea came to Alex. She had said that her parents died on an important mission for him. Maybe he would remember them. Maybe, maybe it wasn’t his fault that they died. Yet, still he tried not to get his hopes up. For he knew, back when he was Razriel, he would kill someone at the drop of a hat.
“Child, what were your parents names?”
“Well, I can’t really remember them, to be honest. They died when I was still a baby,” the girl said after thinking about it for a second.
“So, you don’t know their name at all?”
“Well, I remember my uncle saying their names before. I think...I think their names were Leah and Seth. At least, I think that’s what my uncle said.”
Alex closed his eyes and tried to put a face with the names that the young girl just gave him. Alex had many people working for him, but only a few were allowed to live near his castle. It was for that reason that he knew this girl’s parents had to be special. Especially, considering the fact that they were humans. Alex tried to remember any special agents that worked for him that were humans. Yet, despite all he could think of, the only human who ever came to him was a lone male. He was a dark one. A bounty hunter of sorts. He was an unrefined, animalistic, cutthroat of a man. There was no way he could be the father of this sweet little girl. It was then, however, that another thought came to Alex. He quickly searched his memories for any humans that might’ve worked for him as a servant. For all he knew, this child’s parents might’ve been mages, but they had their own realm. Why would they live by his castle? While Alex was deep in thought, the little girl took a few timid steps towards him. At first Alex didn’t take much notice in her. He was concentrating too hard on trying to uncover the identities of her parents.
“Mister... are you okay?”
Alex finally turned his attention back to the girl. She pulled the bucket of water closer to her chest, and it was then that Alex saw three large, circular scars on her right arm. Scars, that looked as if fingers had been stabbed through her arm. It wasn’t until Alex saw those scars, that the memories came flooding back to him. His eyes widened as he realized who this girl’s parents were. “No....”

The dark skinned form of Razriel roared in anger as he quickly moved through his castle. “We’re are they?”
“We don’t know, my Lord. I am terribly sorry. We should’ve realized it sooner. Everyone is searching for the traitors even as we speak,” a timid dragon half breed muttered.
Razriel’s eyes flashed with anger at the demon’s words. Without halting, he looked at the demon with eyes that foretold his doom. “You say, you should’ve realized it sooner. Well now, I guess you should have.”
“P-please my Lord. I didn’t mean...,” the demon stammered. Before he could finish his sentence, Razriel reached out his hand and grabbed the demon’s face. He then quickly slammed the demon’s skull into the brick wall behind him. The brick cracked beneath the force of the impact, but the demon’s skull was reduced to blood red pudding. Alex flicked the blood off of his hand and let the body slump to the ground in a pool of its own blood. He then quickly proceeded to continue his search.
Those two humans, how dare they think that they could betray me like this. What were they thinking? Better yet, what was I thinking? I should’ve never trusted humans, or even let them work as my servants. I thought I might have finally found a human that was worth the air they breathe. Evidently, I was wrong. I allowed them to live by my castle so that they could do their work. I even allowed that wench to live once her husband had impregnated her. After all I had done for them, they go now and betray me as they have. All this time, all this time they have been serving me, they’ve also been serving the Dark Lord Scion. How could I have been so blind? If Zanatos hadn’t informed me of this news, who knows what all they might’ve learned about the battle strategies. It is lucky for me that Silva had glimpsed some of their thoughts. It is unfortunate, however, that he wasn’t able to locate the whereabouts of the Dark Lord, himself.
Still, I should consider myself fortunate that I have those two as generals. Those two, along with Celine and Gigas, are searching for these wretched humans even now. That is true loyalty. Not like these pathetic humans, who know nothing of honor or nobility.
These were the thoughts running through Razriel’s head as he ran out, into the black of night. The only thought on his mind, was to exterminate the two servants who had betrayed him. As fate would have it, the first thing his eyes saw, were the fleeting figures of two people into the darkness of the forest. Razriel quickly charged toward the two figures. As he neared them, he could sense the fear emanating from their bodies. A wicked grin crept along his face. He knew, he had found them.
“Why, Seth? Why do you want to die so badly, that you work for Scion just so you could have a quick death? I thought your family meant more to you than that,” Razriel said, announcing his presence to them.
The two figures stopped dead in their tracks.Razriel was somewhat please to see that the taller form of Seth, instinctively threw himself in front of his wife. “Please, my Lord. We did not betray you. We are your humble, loyal servants. As we have always been.”
“So, you say my generals are lying to me when they tell me that you having been passing information to Scion?”
“Please, my Lord. Maybe they are just misinformed.”
“Heh, no. I’m afraid it is you who is misinformed Seth. Rest assured, your death will be far worse an far more painful than anything you could ever imagine. Because before I kill you, I’m going to have some fun with your wife,” Razriel stated.
Seth’s eyes widened in a mixture of hate and fear. Acting only on instinct he shoved his wife away from him. “Run!”
When Seth shoved his wife, however, a tiny cry came from the woman’s cloak. That cry, made all three people stand completely still. The two human’s exchanged nervous glances, but Razriel’s
smile only increased.
“On second thought, I’ll keep you alive, but your daughter will not be so fortunate. This is the price for treason. You will be locked away in the darkest abyss imaginable. There, you will have nothing to do but contemplate the death of your child. A death, caused by your treason.”
“No, you monster!” Seth yelled. Before his wife could stop him, Seth hurled himself at Razriel. Reacting on instinct alone, Razriel caught Set by the throat in mid-air. He slowly started to crush the man’s windpipes, enjoying the look of terror, pain, and hopelessness, that the man’s face was now showing.
“I grow bored with your games, Seth. It’s time for you to die.” With that, several red tentacles launched themselves out of Razriel’s arm
. The tentacles stabbed themselves into Seth’s body, and even though Seth couldn’t scream due to his crushed trachea, the look of horror and pain on his face was priceless. Razriel smirked, and in that instant Seth was ripped to shreds from the inside out. Razriel faintly registered his wife’s scream, but he was too busy enjoying the rain of blood that poured down upon him. The only thing that snapped him out of his bloodlust, was the sound of a baby’s crying, that was coming from the child that Leah was holding tightly against her breast.
“No, please God, no!” Leah screamed.
“There is no God here, only the Devil,” Razriel said in a mocking tone. “I guess I should’ve stuck with my original plan. That would’ve been much more fun. Now, I’ll just kill you all.”
“No!” Leah screamed once again. This time, she turned around and quickly tried to escape the gruesome scene in front of her. Before she had taken three steps, Razriel’s claws pierced through her chest. He could feel the beat of her heart in his palm as he stood with his hand in her chest. He could hear the now, intense crying of the child. It wasn’t until he removed his hand from Leah’s chest, that he realized he had also wounded the child. Five claw marks, from where his hand pierced through her mother’s chest, made themselves apparent on the child’s right arm.
With the mother’s dying breath, she cursed Razriel, but she also did one more thing. She called out her child’s name. “Cherish....”

Try as he might, Alex couldn’t shake the gruesome scene from his mind. He knew that back when he was known as Razriel, many innocent people died at his hands. The lives of this child’s parents, were a direct result of his foolish faith that he placed in his generals. A faith, that he now knew, would only cause more deaths. One of which, would be his own.
“Cherish...,” Alex whispered softly.
