Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Blood For Blood ( Chapter 58 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
This was the first time Alex actually got a good look at his attacker. It was a demon, one that Alex could tell was of the panther breed. He wore loose fitting clothes, with all sorts of weapons attached to them. His pants were solid black, as was the vest he wore. His cloak, however, was a blood red. In his hand fluttered a black face wrap.
“You’re here to avenge your brothers murder, aren’t you? I presume that, that if Senka was indeed your brother, that would make you Rajah, wouldn’t it? Rajah of the thousand blades,” Alex said. He stood up and dusted the snow off of his shoulders. Only then did he realize that it was no longer snowing where they were.
The demon nodded at Alex’s words, and upon seeing Alex’s face replied. “My name is of no importance, but seeing as how already know so much about both me and my brother, I can only presume you know why I am called Rajah of the thousand blades.”
“You use a device that once launched, rains down metal spears upon your enemy. You are claimed to be untouchable, but I for one do not care. Get out of my way. Your brother was a murderer, an assassin, and a thieve. He deserved what he had coming.”
“As do you, oh great Demon Lord. Or have you forgotten that you are now being hunted for slaughtering all those humans. You not only killed the cult of Rajah, the finest band of assassins this realm has ever seen, but you also killed all those humans and half of the Eastern Realm forces. Such a naughty Lord you are, but then again, we both know you were never really a Lord. Once a Devil, always a Devil. This place is fascinating, no snow lands beyond this point. It is rumored that it was the Dark Lord himself who cast a spell upon this mountain. I chose this place to kill you, so I can toss your body down this mountain, for all the realm to see. You will die for your crimes, oh great Demon Lord.”
“You know, you’re really starting to piss me off. I’ll make you a deal, you shut the Hell up, and I’ll let you live. As it is, I’m in no mood for any of your damn jokes right now. I’ve got something I’ve got to do, and kicking your ass isn’t part of it. Although, just for you I might reconsider the whole, me not killing you thing,” Alex threatened.
“Oh, I hate to inform you, but you don’t a choice but to fight me. You see, I followed your retched scent, and the scent of my brother which still loomed on the mask you stole from him. It led me to the battlefield where you massacred all those humans. You killed everyone you came across, everyone except one that is,” Rajah announced with an evil smile.
Alex’s eyes widened and a growl escaped his throat as he realized who Rajah was talking about. Rajah motioned behind him, allowing Alex to see the bruised and battered body of Aurora who was tied to a log, bound by thick metal wires. “Don’t worry, she’s not going anywhere. Still, unless you fight me and win, I’m afraid she’ll have to die.”
“Let her go! She has nothing to do with this. I’m the one who killed your brother. Leave her out of this!” Alex yelled.
“Oh, you don’t want anymore innocent deaths on your conscious is it?” Rajah asked.
What’s going on? Why is he trying to stand up for me? One moment he’s ready to kill me, now he’s trying to spare my life. I don’t understand! Nothing makes any sense anymore. Why did Alex spare my life and no one else? Why does he now want to spare my life? These were the thoughts now running through Aurora’s head. Even though her pain was being amplified by the chords biting into her flesh, she still struggled to break free. Alex, why are you doing this?” she whispered softly. “Why does it seem like you’re a completely different person? Why does it seem as if you’re once again the Alex that was alive during Brittany’s time. What has happened to you? It’s as if you’ve finally stepped back out of the darkness, but you’ve yet to grasp the light.
Alex stood frozen. Rajah’s question and jarred him. His mind instantly recalled the dream he had, and of the hate filled faces of people he had once called friends. Alex tried to shake the images out of his mind, but no matter how hard he tried they still remained.
“What’s wrong my Lord, haunted by the ghosts of your past?” Rajah laughed at the comment. He laughed even harder when he saw the pain filled expression on Alex’s face. “Why did you spare her my Lord? Why did you spare this wench and no one else?”
Alex brought his hand up to his temples. The visions from his dreams were intensifying. He could hear the screams of the dead echoing in his ears. Their cries were amplifying in volume. He could hear their screams of agony. He could hear their cries of pain. He could hear their violent curses, condemning him to Hell, but most of all he could hear them begging him to tell the truth. Their cries threatened to drive him insane. He fell to his knees, the pain their cries inflicted on his body was nothing compared to the pain he had felt in his dream, but still it was enough to make him want to die. Yet again he heard them scream to him to tell the truth. Once again he remembered Rire’s words. Until you find what made you strong, we will have free reign over your soul.
Dammit, get out of my head! Brittany...I’m going to see Brittany again. I’m not about to die! I’m going to see you again, I’m so close. I will live with this pain, for this burden I must bear, but that doesn’t mean I still can’t fight. If this asshole lives, then more innocent people will die as a result. I can’t die here, I won’t die here.
“I’m not about to die!” Alex yelled. Suddenly, all the voices ceased. The pain that had numbed his body had released his grip on him and he could once again stand.
“Well, if I had known that question was going to make you go all psycho, I would’ve ended your miserable life right there,” Rajah muttered.
Alex glared at him, and then at Aurora. He could see her swollen face looking in his direction, but her look was no longer one of hate and malice, but one of questioning. Alex smirked. Maybe, maybe I’m not such a monster after all. I have a lot of repenting to do, but maybe, maybe making sure her children stay alive, maybe that will be a small step to redemption.
“Do you want to know why I spared her? It’s because she’s pregnant. I heard the heartbeat of her children, and it reminded me of a person whom I hold more precious than life itself. In that instant, I knew I couldn’t kill her. I couldn’t let a fate such as mine fall upon her, or fall upon her mate’s shoulders. That man is like a brother to me, and even the Devil himself is not that cruel.”
“Hah, you say then that you spared her life out of compassion. Well then, just for that I will have to ensure that her death is a slow and painful one. That way she can curse you for not ending her life quickly,” Rajah replied.
Aurora couldn’t believe her ears. She honestly couldn’t believe what Alex had just said. He did it, he spared my life, because of my children? Why, when he has killed so many already, why would he spare me just because of that? He says he doesn’t want Shadow to end up like him, is it because he knows that Shadow would do the exact same thing in his position. Alex, you’ve changed, but what has caused that change? What has caused that pain that hides behind your eyes? Brittany, he needs you now more than ever. He has always come to your rescue, now it’s time for you to come to his rescue.
Alex looked over toward Aurora and smiled comfortingly. “I’m sorry for dragging you into this. Please forgive me, but don’t worry, I’ll have you free soon enough.”
Aurora stared at Alex in awe, she looked away quickly, afraid that any moment now she would wake up and Alex would return to being the monster he was. When she looked back up at him, the wind had picked up around them, blowing Alex’s long white hair all around him. The way he looked, the ferocity that raged in his eyes mixed with an inner pain that was slowly killing him, and with all this, Aurora realized that this Alex, truly was the Alex they had all grown to love.
“I don’t see how you plan on freeing her, unless you plan on talking me to death,” Rajah quipped. “You’ve become soft in the time you’ve spent with that human wench. Resorting to attacking humans and weakling demons, just to prove that you’re still strong. That’s pathetic!”
“So even you admit that your brother was a dimwit demon who wasn’t even worthy of the privilege of being called a demon,” Alex replied calmly. Even though he looked calm, it was obvious to Aurora that his calm exterior was slowly cracking,
“Actually, I was talking about the elf and demon that you slaughtered. They were friend of yours, were they not? It seems that all you can do is bring death to all those you cared about. Heh, it was probably your fault that you killed that mate of yours. Either that, or she just killed herself to escape having to live with a monster like you!”
A quickly pulse of energy silence Rajah’s comments. Alex’s demonic energy surged all around him, literally cracking the ground with its sheer power. In a flash of movement Alex was gone. He appeared behind Rajah, his claws brought close to his chest, a smirk spread across his face.
Aurora had seen Alex’s sudden attack on Rajah. She was use to Alex’s fast movements, so she was barely able to see him slash Rajah across the chest, but Rajah, who had never seen Alex fight before, had no idea what had happened. Still, the moment Alex launched himself at Rajah, Aurora saw Rajah smile wickedly. Aurora tried to call out to Alex, to warn him that something wasn’t right, the moment she did, however, she realized that she couldn’t talk.
Author's Note: Okay, I did say that I would bring about the Celestial Realm....yeah....it's going to be a little while. Sorry about that. Probably another 5 or 6 chapters until that happens. Sorry!
