Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Stone Giants ( Chapter 63 )

Alex turned just in time to see the shadow of the stone giant, swing its sword towards him. Alex instinctively threw his arms up to catch the enormous falling sword, knowing that he wouldn’t have time to dodge it. At the same time, he subconsciously called up the crystal of power and activated his Devil Armor. With all three crystals activated, and with his Devil Armor, Alex knew that he would be able to stop th sword. Given normal circumstance this fight would have been over long ago, but these were far from normal circumstances.
As the sword came crashing down, Alex used his Devil Armor to extend his arm length out tenfold. His claws stabbed into the sides of the sword, slowing it down, but not stopping it completely. A second later, however, the sword had halted any movement possible. The weight of the sword, and the force of it, caused the ground beneath Alex to crack due to the strain he had put on it.
“Wow, that’s new,” Shadow commented. “Since when has Alex been able to manipulate his Devil Armor like that?”
“Evidently he learned when he was fighting us,” Raion said with a slight hint of bitterness in regards to that matter.
“Yeah, right before we were going to umm...execute him, Alex used the Devil Armor. He then started using it in ways I didn’t even think was possible. I just thought it was an extra layer of skin, but he managed to use his tentacles as weapons, and as you see now, stretch out his limbs,” Aurora stated.
“Ah, so he’s finally begun to learn more about his powers. That is good. Still, he hasn’t mastered it. Otherwise it would be more solid than it is now. He’s barely even begun to tap into its true power,” Raza said to himself.
All eyes turned to him in regards to what he just said. “Just what do you mean, ‘tap into its true power’? Do you mean that Alex can get even stronger?” Shadow asked.
“In essences, yes. If I’m correct, you might be able to see just what I am talking about,” Raza replied motioning toward the battle at hand.
The stone giant grabbed hold of his handled with both hands, pushing down with all its might against Alex. Alex was starting to get pushed back, forcing the ground beneath him to weaken even more. His Devil Armor was being pushed back further into his arms as well.
If I don’t do something quick, the ground beneath me is going to collapse. That’s all I need is to be stuck in a hole with these two. Still, what can I do? This things a Hell of a lot stronger than I first thought. Evidently Scion knew what he was doing when he created these. So how in the world am I supposed to defeat them?
“Alex, use your Devil Armor. Try solidifying it not only around your arm, but inside it as well. Don’t think of it as just an armor. Think of it as your own skin,” Raza yelled down to Alex.
“That’s easier said than done!” Alex yelled back, struggling against the weight of the sword.
“Just do it!” Raza yelled. Shit, so much for me letting him learn to use it on his own. Well, there would be little use on waiting for that to happen if he dies trying to see Brittany. Besides, if he learns to trust his Devil Armor now, this might work out better later on.
“Fuck, fine!” Alex closed his eyes and tried the best he could to do as Raza said. So far, he had only known how to use the Devil Armor two different ways. The first being as an armor to protect himself. The second, being the new ability he learned and manipulating it with his thought to give him an extra edge. Both of those, however, were both external changes. He had never thought to use the Devil Armor inside himself before. Alex could feel the Devil Armor becoming infused with his muscles. At first it was painful, and a burning sensation crept through his arms. But after a few seconds, the pain was gone, as was the increased weight of the sword.
When Alex opened his eyes again, he was still holding onto the sword, but now without any difficulties at all. He then looked at his arms, which had changed drastically. His arm muscles had nearly tripled in size and his skin had changed to a dark red color. Spikes jutted out from his shoulder and from his knuckles, and his claws had turned a dark black color. Even the tattoos from the seal had turned black on his arm, not to mention they had changed shape as well.
What the Hell? Oh well, no time to be asking question now, Alex thought. With his new found strength, he began to press his hands deeper into the blade of the sword. He glared evilly at the stone giant. “Now it’s time for some fucking payback!”
With that, Alex shattered the stone giants sword. He then launched himself up and began mercilessly beating the demon’s skin. Blow after blow, he drove the demon back into a wall, that is, until he was sent flying backward after being hit in the ribs by the other demon’s sword. Alex barely made it to one knee as he coughed up blood. He held his ribs tightly silently cursing his carelessness. When he looked up, he was devastated to see that even with this newfound power, he still hadn’t even scratched the demon’s skin.
Both stone giants were upon him now, forcing Alex to make a mad dash away from them to catch his breath and let his wounds heal. As he ran, he called out to his friends who were still trying to disperse the barrier. “Okay, on second thought, a little help here guys. Raza, you’re the one who knows all the stuff about this place, how in the Hell am I suppose to destroy these damn things?”
“I don’t know. Magic created them, so by all rights magic should be able to destroy them. They are made of rock, so try a water spell,” Raza suggested. “That might work.”
“Great, I love the confidence. I’m doomed,” Alex muttered as he dug his hands into the ground and spun around to face his enemies. Both the stone giants were too close for comfort. Meaning that Alex would have to focus and use spells on both of them, instead of just one. Dividing my concentration could prove deadly, but I don’t have a choice. I can’t just focus on one and let the other get too close to me. Here goes nothing.
Alex raised both his arms, pointing one at each of the giants. “Gekiryu mizu!”
Water coursed around Alex’s left arm. Staying there for only a second before it exploded into a torrential tribute of water. The rushing waters crashed into the first stone giant, halting his advances only briefly. Alex quickly aimed at the other one with his right hand and cast another spell. “Yari no kori!”
Ice began forming around Alex’s fingertips. Forming miniature ice missiles on each finger on his right hand. He made sure he was still aiming for the giant’s chest before launching the miniature missiles at it. The moment the ice missiles connected with the stone demon’s chest, they exploded on impact. Turning the surrounding area to solid ice.
Alex smirked, thinking that the idea of using water spells just might work. It wasn’t until he saw the giant shatter the ice that had encased him, that he realized he might have gotten too confident too early. He quickly looked to check on the other one which was being blasted back by water. What he say, was the stone giant slowly making his way toward Alex, despite the pounding waters that pressed against his body.
“Okay, water spells are not working. Any other bright idea?” Alex asked. Ending his spells and flipping backwards once more to put some room between himself and the stone giants.
Being able to cast multiple spells like that, focusing them each to one arm while using the other spell is quite a talent. Not many mages have that much control or self discipline to be able to do something like he just did. The fact that he is a demon makes it even more fascinating. To think that he was able to achieve such mastery over his magical abilities, even though casting magic causes him bodily harm. It’s truly no wonder though, considering who his father was, Raza thought with a small smile. Upon realizing Alex’s predicament he tried to think of something else that might work. “These creatures were created using the dark arts. Can you use any of the dark arts spells against them?”
“It’s worth a shot,” Alex replied morbidly. This isn’t going to end well. The only darkness spells that I know are very powerful ones; and with me already using the powers of the crystals, to cast the spells so that they’ll do more damage, I’m going to be in some serious pain for about three minutes after casting the spell. Which won’t be good unless it actually works. I’ve been casting more spells that I should have already, even with my powers back, casting spell still hurt like Hell, but you’ve got to do what you have to do.
“Ha no ano kurayami hitori!” Alex clasped his hands together and then slammed them down onto the ground. Dark portals appeared beneath each one of his hands. Electricity that was as dark as night, danced all around him.
He’s using the blades of the dark one...but that spells too advanced for him! Shit, if this doesn’t work he’ll be terribly weakened by it. So much that even these things would be able to do some serious damage to him. Shit, I wish I knew what in the Hell these things were, but I have no idea. Maybe if I did I would know how to defeat them. The worst part is, is that I would be able to know what they are, but I can’t use my eyes while I’m in this body! Raza looked to the others, all of which were watching the unfolding battles as if there lives were the ones that hung in the balance and not Alex’s.
Portals of darkness opened up beneath the feet of the stone giants. More dark electricity swirled around them, causing even them to look down to see what was happening. Raza quickly turned to the others. Realizing that they might be Alex’s only hope. “Do any of you know what those monsters might be? The more I look at them, the more I doubt that they were created by sorcery. Which if they weren’t, that means that there has to be someway to kill them.”
“I don’t know. I had just figured that they were stone statues that were given life through sorcery, but seeing as how they’ve yet to have been destroyed, it seems highly improbable,” Shadow stated sadly.
“I don’t have any idea either. I don’t know much about magic, so I’m not sure what on earth they could be,” Aurora commented. Shaking her head sadly as she did so. Shadow wrapped his arm around her and kissed her. He could see the worry in her eyes as they watched Alex below them.
“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine. He always comes out on top. You know that. These things are strong, but they can’t keep Alex from getting to Brittany. No force in this realm could do that,” he told her.
“I know, its just that...something’s not right about this,” she whispered.
From the portals of darkness that laid beneath the feet of the stone giants, emerged blades that were as dark as an abyss. The blades were not made of metal, but were made of the very darkness itself. They tore through the stone giants as they launched themselves out of the dark portals. Alex’s face was set in a mask of determination as he held his hands firm against the floor. Blood began to seep from unseen wounds, mixing with the dark red color of his arms as he continued to use the spell.
“It couldn’t be. I can’t believe I didn’t realize this sooner, and of course you guys wouldn’t know, but I’m surprised that you didn’t know mage. Seeing how close you mages were with that Devil Zanatos. Those things must be the tamashii shukkaku surus that Zanatos had captured,” Raion announced.
“Tamashii shukkaku surus?” Raza asked.

Author's Note: Tamashii shukkaku surus...try saying that 3 times fast. Oh well...in case you haven't noticed, most of the weird stuff in here is in Japanese, and since I'm trying to get this published, do you think it would be better if I were to change it to made up words and such, keep it Jap., or translate it to Latin?
