Lucia looked at Brittany and then at Shimera. Brittany just stared in shock as Shimera turned and headed for the maze. She stopped and looked at Lucia. “I’m going to go find him.”
Lucia nodded and then looked at Brittany. She just stared at the ground with an expression that conveyed too many emotions for Lucia to count. Once Shimera was out of earshot, Brittany spoke to him. “How could she talk as if she knows what I am going through?”
“Because she can see what you should’ve realized from the very beginning,” Lucia replied with a sigh. “Alex once told me that he was undeserving of your love. Now, I am wondering if it is not you who is undeserving of his.”
With that he turned back toward the maze. “That man...he is one of a kind. He knew you would be mad at him for what he did, but still he gave up everything to come and see you. If those who are dead can find no fault in him, why should you?”
“Please, just leave me alone,” Brittany said in a tired voice.
“He loves you, you know? He only has two more days here. Keep that in mind, and the fact that he’d do anything just to see you smile,” with that Lucia turned and walked away.
Brittany sat down on the bench and cupped her face her hands. “I know,” she whispered
I want to be with him, just as much as he wants to be with me. It’s just...Alex....
Brittany knew all that Alex had done, and he knew he had done it for her. She wanted to be with him. She wanted to hold onto him just as much as he wanted to hold onto her. She knew that she had overreacted, but she also knew that she was right about one thing. She needed to be alone right now. She needed to think things through. For so long she had been in a daze, and now when Alex was so close to her, knowing that he had been through a Hell that no man should be forced to go through, she had just shoved him away from the one thing that had kept him going.
What am I going to do?
“You know, I’m getting tired of having to be the nice guy for everyone,” a voice called out from behind her. “But, I guess a spirits work is never done, is it Rire?”
“That it is not,” Rire replied.
Brittany turned to see Baou, Rire, and a little girl standing behind her. She wiped her tears and tried to smile the best she could. She wasn’t quite sure what to say to them, so she said the only thing she knew she could. “I-I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for what? The fact that your lover butchered us,” Baou said with a smirk.
Brittany paled at Baou’s words. She brought her trembling hand up to her lips as she started to say something.
“Don’t worry about it,” Baou objected before she could speak.
Rire shook his head sadly and looked at Brittany. “I believe what this idiot is trying to say is that we don’t blame Alex for what happened. Had he any knowledge or brains at all, he would’ve found a more eloquent way of saying it. But to put this as simply as possible, we cannot blame Alex. We are dead by his hands, but we cannot harbor any hate against him. So you shouldn’t hate him.”
“But he killed you! He killed you like it was nothing! How can you not feel any anger toward him? It’s because of him that you’re dead in the first place!” Brittany said with tears streaming down her face.
“Well, actually it’s because of us that we’re dead. I mean, if we hadn’t tried to stop him we wouldn’t be dead,” Baou stated plainly.
“That’s not right, Baou! Alex killed you. Ho can you be so calm about it?”
“We’re dead, Brittany. We died because we fought with Alex. We knew the moment we went to try and stop him that we were going to die. But we went anyway just so we might be able to stop him from taking the lives of the humans. It didn’t exactly work out as planned, but at least we tried.”
“Before you object to what this idiot says, let me explain it to you a little better,” Rire objected. “We are dead, that’s all there is to it. We may have died at Alex’s hands, but we do not feel any hatred to him. We are dead, so of course we feel sadness and anger, but we know that Alex isn’t the real reason for out death.”
“How can you say that? He’s the one that killed you after all!”
“But he was being controlled by someone else,” Baou told her.
“He let himself be controlled! He let his heart fall into darkness so that he could be used. He knew what he was doing!”
“He let himself be controlled by you. So don’t start passing judgement until you know the whole story. You may have gotten your memories back, but you still have no idea what Alex has been through since you died.”
“How can you say that? I was still able to sense everything that happened to him! I know what he did. I know that he let himself be controlled because he thought that it was me who was controlling him. But that still doesn’t excuse what he did! If anything it makes it worse because he thought he was doing it for me. He killed all those people in my name!”
“You really are self centered aren’t you?” Baou said with a smirk. Brittany looked up at Baou with shock, but he wasn’t about to back down. “Listen, I don’t like you, but Alex...I don’t like him either. The fact is, is that he had something special. He still does, and I envied him because of it. I would’ve given anything to have what he had. I would’ve killed anyone just for a taste, just for a second to have what he had. Do you know what it is? Do you know what made me and Rire fight to the death, just to stop him? Do you know, what made us try and save him from the darkness in his heart.”
“What?” Brittany asked in a soft voice.
“It was you. Alex had it all. He had power, he had nobility, but those are things that come and go. He lost both more times that I care to count. The one thing that he wasn’t able to lose, the one thing he wasn’t going to lose, the one thing he was willing to die to keep was you. He wasn’t willing to sacrifice himself for his power or anything else that mattered to him. He was, however, willing to give up everything that he had strived to achieve, just to keep from losing you. Maybe now you’ll see that what you’re doing, is far worse than anything anyone else could have done to him. He was willing to lose himself just so he could see you, and now you won’t even acknowledge him. Alex is not the man I once knew. He’s not the bloodthirsty, cold hearted killer who didn’t give a damn about anyone. He’s changed. Into what, I’m not sure, but I do know that he has changed.”
“Why do you speak so fondly of him? Why...why are you able to act like him killing you is no big deal? Why do you act like he’s a hero for doing what he did? He killed you, and he laughed about it. He killed his friends and he laughed. A monster laughs when he kill his friends. A Devil laughs when he kills his friends. A Lord, a lover...Alex, Alex doesn’t laugh when his friends are in danger. But he willingly attacked them without any concern for their safety. He laughed when he killed you!”
“If you won’t listen to our words, then maybe you’ll listen to your own. Alex wouldn’t laugh if his friends were in danger. That is what you yourself said. Razriel, the Demon Lord who killed men like they were nothing. Now that is someone who would laugh at the death of others, but not even he would’ve cared enough to let the deaths of his friends haunt him.”
“What do you mean?” Brittany asked, looking up at Rire with interest.
“So, you don’t know everything as you first thought you did. When Alex killed the humans he felt his heart shatter. He was so broken by what he did, that he contemplated death. If it wasn’t for his hatred for the demon that possessed him he might have succumbed to the darkness once more. As it was, he wanted to get vengeance on that monster for taking control over him, and for making him kill those humans and us. He was haunted by his feelings after what he had done. It was because of this feeling, that we first began to haunt him. Even though he didn’t know what are true intentions were, we were trying to help him. He thought that we were cursing him for what he did, thus he fell farther into believing that he would never be forgiven for what he had done. Once he got here, it was because of these feelings that he wasn’t able to enter directly into the Celestial Realm. He allowed himself to be tortured by the souls of those that he killed. He killed them, he killed us, he killed me! And he felt sorry for it! He felt remorse for killing us, even though he was just being used while he was doing it! How could we hate someone, that cried over our deaths? How could we hate someone that felt such sorrow over killing us.? He didn’t mean to, he didn’t even want to. Deep inside his heart, deep inside his mind, he was, he still is Alex. He couldn’t defeat the darkness in his heart, he still hasn’t been able to completely vanquish it. We did what we could, and now he no longer feels responsible for our deaths, or at least...he gained some closure with what happened.”
“At least he had gotten over our deaths. He was able to make repentance, and he was willing to take on the Devil who controlled him, now after everything you’ve said, I think his confidence might be more than a little shaken,” Baou replied bitterly. “Just when he was finally back to his old self. There were only three more things that he wanted. He wanted vengeance, he wanted his wanted his child, but most of all he wanted you! And you, you acted as if he was the Devil himself.”

Author's Note: Okay, do you think I altered Baou's original personality too much? I tried to keep him the sacrastic asshole that he originally was...but it didn't work out to well. In other words, do you think I'm making him too...well...he's not exactly nice...but you get the picture.
