Alex tried to be prepared for anything as Lucia and Shimera led him and Brittany up winding stone steps and toward two giant white doors. Shimera told everyone to wait outside, for since she was a part of the elders, she would have to brief them on everything that happened. Once she was gone and uneasy silence fell upon the trio. Alex still held Brittany close to him, and she clung to him as if he was her last remaining hope, which for the most part he was. The fact that Brittany hadn’t wanted to leave his side made the darkness that loomed over him slowly start to fade away. Alex was overjoyed that everything seemed to finally be falling into place.
“So what exactly is it that’s going to happen when I meet with the elders?” Alex asked as the uncertainty and overbearing silence began to take its toll on him.
“I’m not sure exactly,” Lucia admitted. “Bringing you here was more or less...my idea, so the elders weren’t exactly thrilled about it. They want to know what you know, and try to help you to realize your full potential. On top of other things, they want you to realize who this enemy is so that you might better be able to understand how to beat him.”
“Wait, you know who this monster is. Don’t you? If you know, then why won’t you just tell me. Instead of wasting time talking I could use my time here for better things.”
Lucia smirked and turned around. “And I wonder what those better things could be,” he said as he smiled a knowing smile in Alex’s and Brittany’s direction.
Before Alex could respond, the large white doors opened and Shimera ushered them in. Alex felt as if he had stepped back into the age of the Roman Empire as he walked inside the building. If anything, this place resembled a Roman senate chamber. It had large white pillars supporting the roof, coliseum style seating, and a large marble table which was reserved for the elders.
Alex was a good judge of people’s character just by the way they held themselves. He could tell that the man in the middle was obvious the one known as Zanatos. Even though Alex’s name was one that was widely known in this realm, Zemnas’s golden eyes held no awe or fear when he confronted Alex. Instead, he seemed a little amused at the present situation.
The man directly to Zemnas’s right, was either emotionless or just extremely hard to read. His grey eyes seemed as lifeless as the aura around him, and Alex was having a hard time debating whether or not that was a good thing. He could sense that the man tensed just slightly at Alex’s appearance before them. Other than that one small sign, there was no obvious sings to show that he held even the smallest portion of fear for the man known as Razriel standing before him.
The lady to his right, was a complete mystery to Alex. Her face was completely covered by the cloak, and the way she held herself made Alex uncertain of whether or not she was alive. It wasn’t until he saw her turn her head in Zemnas’s direction that he realized that she was in fact, still among the living.
Shimera shifted uncomfortably in her seat on Zemnas’s left. Judging by the look on her face, things were going to be less than pleasant once the interrogation began. Alex had a feeling that he would like it even less than she would. For one, because Zemnas was likely to bring up Alex’s brutal massacre, and the second being that if Zemnas could in fact bring Brittany and their child back to life, then Alex would be forced to do everything in his power to make that happen. Even if it meant being nice to this guy.
The girl seated on Shimera’s left, was exactly identical to the one of the far right. Or, at least Alex thought they were identical. Just as before, the only thing he could tell about this person was that she was in fact a she. Even through the cloaks and robes, her feminine curves were still painfully obvious to his trained eyes.
“Welcome Razriel. Or should I call you Alex now?” the man Alex presumed to be Zemnas said in a booming voice.
Alex bowed slightly in a courteous manner toward the man. “Alex suits me just fine.”
“Heh, a demon with manners. Will wonders never cease?” the man said with a smirk. He proceeded to look Alex up and down, as if he was measuring him up. Once he seemed to sense no threat from Alex in his present form, he got straight down to business. “As you must have already figured out by now, I am Zemnas. The man on my right is Tristan, and you already know Shimera. The two on the far ends don’t have any names. Lets just say that they are here to make sure the truth is told.”
“Just what is the truth?” Alex asked. His eyes rose to meet with Zemnas’s. Icy cold eyes met with golden eyes full of crackling energy. The two eyes locked for what seemed like an eternity before finally, much to Alex’s enjoyment, Zemnas looked away.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I want to know about that monster that controlled me. I know that you know who it is, and I want to know.”
“Are all demons this brash?” Zemnas asked coldly. He then looked over at Lucia. “I see you didn’t tell him how this worked.”
Lucia began to speak, but before he could another voice cut him off. “Of course he didn’t, Zemnas. You know as well as I do that it is supposed to be my job to help him uncover the truth.”
Both Alex and Brittany tensed up as they heard the voice echo in their ears. Their breaths caught in their throats as they exchanged glances with each other. Alex quickly looked to Lucia who had a knowing smirk on his face. He nodded and pointed in the direction the voice came from.
“I believe he’s here for you,” Lucia said.
Both Alex and Brittany moved as one as they turned to the owner of the voice. Alex’s voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke. “Alcadan.”
Brittany looked up at Alex because he hadn’t moved toward Alcadan. She could tell by the indecisive look on his face, that he wasn’t quite sure what to do. Even without their mental connection, she could tell the moment his face turned to stone, that he was trying to hide whatever emotion it was that threatened to rise to the surface. She quickly moved out of his arms and toward Alcadan. He needs to snap out of it. And I know just how to do that!
Brittany ran and hugged Alcadan tightly. She looked up at him and flashed him her best smile. “Hi, you’re Alex’s father. Right?”
Alcadan smiled at Brittany and patted her on the head as he would a child. He then looked over at Alex. A hint of sadness and wonder lingered in his gaze as he spoke. “Yes, I am.”
“Alex, say hi to him! He is your father after all,” Brittany said after Alex remained quiet for quite sometime after Alcadan had spoken.
“No, it’s quite alright. I wouldn’t expect him to,” Alcadan quickly interjected.
“No, she’s right. I’m being rude,” Alex said softly. He then smiled and ran his fingers through his hair. “I’ve just got a lot on my mind right now, so you’ll have to forgive me. It...it still takes some getting used to. I mean, after what Scion had said. Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“Well, you’ll have to understand. Back when I was your advisor, you were not exactly the easiest of people to approach. Besides, it was my decision for you not to remember your past.”
“What do you mean? How could you have erased my memory? Better yet, why would you have done something like that?”
“It was not an easy decision to make, but it was one that I had to make. If you had been able to remember your life as a human.... You wouldn’t have been able to do what would have been necessary to unify the Demon Realm under your control.”
“Don’t you think that should’ve been my decision to make!” Alex declared. A low growl rumbled in his throat. It was then that Brittany realized that this wasn’t going to end well. She quickly hurried over to Alex’s side and threw her arms around him.
“Give him a chance,” she whispered into his ear.
Alex’s body quivered at her touch. Her warm breath on his neck sent tingles of sensation coursing through his body. With her body pressed up against his, he could feel every last one of her curves. He body tensed even more as he felt her press her body in all the right places just to get to him.
Brittany smile as she looked up at Alex. She knew what she was doing to him, but as much as he was getting turned on by her, she wanted him just as much. “I’ve missed you too,” she continued to whisper. “But now is not the time.”
