Brittany’s hands flew to her mouth and she shook her head quickly. “No, that can’t be! It can’t be that! There’s got to be another reason!” Brittany turned back to Zemnas. Tears burred her vision and her hand were clenched into fists as she glared at Zemnas. “Tell him he’s wrong! Tell Alex that he’s wrong! He can’t be the reason I can’t see my child! Where is he? Where’s our child? Where’s my baby?”
“Unfortunately, that foolhardy demon behind you has guessed correctly. Your child was born without a soul because of the fact that Alex, was in fact the father of this child. When the child died, it vanished from all the realms. Without a soul, it was unable to come here. So your child is neither in your realm or in ours.”
“You’re lying! Our child is here! Its got to be! Now tell me where my child is!”
“You have a thicker head than that poor excuse for a demon behind you! I cannot show you your child, because your child is not here! If I could, I would bring it to you, but I can’t! Unless you manage to restrain yourself, I’ll have someone take you out of here until you can gain a little bit of self composure. I know losing your child is a sensitive matter to you, but you have to face the truth of this situation. Your child is gone because you slept with one who defied death. If you hadn’t been so loose with your body, and hadn’t given your heart to this demon, then you might have been spared some of this pain. As it is now, you have only yourself and him to blame this upon.”
“You fucking asshole! Shut the Hell up!” Brittany yelled.
“No, he’s right,” Alex interjected. “If it wasn’t for me, none of this would have been happening. If it wasn’t for me, you’d still be in the human realm. Probably a lot happier than you are now. If I hadn’t brought you into my world, if I hadn’t marked you, if we hadn’t fallen in love...this wouldn’t have happened. You could’ve been so much happier if I hadn’t....”
“Shut up! Just shut up, Alex!” Brittany yelled as she turned to face him. “You’re right. If I had never met you, if none of this had never happened, I might have been better off. But somehow I really doubt that. I love you, Alex. Nothing will ever change that. It was because of our love that we had this child, and I’m not about to let this asshole tell me that I can’t see my child. There’s has to be someway for us to bring it back. There just has to be. If you wish that we had never been, then you’re not only hurting me, but you’re also taking away any chance we ever had of bringing our child back.”
“You might as well quite trying to talk to him. He’s too far gone into his own depression as he realizes just what kind of monster he really is. As for you, you need to realize that I’m not lying to you. If I could, I’d bring your child to you. But I can’t. Its dead and gone. So just leave it at that,” Zemnas told her. He saw that Alcadan was about to say something, as was Lucia and Shimera. “If any of you dare to speak against me, I will have you all condemned to the pits.”
“Why won’t you shut up!” Brittany pleaded as she turned back around to face him. Tears fell like torrents of rain from her face, but she still managed to stand firm against him. “Why won’t you just leave us alone?”
“Because until you realize the truth, that your child is dead we’ll never be able to discuss what is really important! You’re child is gone into the abyss, never to return. That monster behind you that you claim to love made sure that you’d never be happy. You’re dead, your child is gone, and your lover is too messed up in the head to even know what is going on.”
Brittany gritted her teeth and glared at him. “If you won’t shut up, I’ll make you! Tengoku-teki bakuhatsu!”
A bright light, much like a burning white flame erupted from Brittany’s hands. The beam of light was aimed straight at Zemnas, who for a moment didn’t know what to do. Just as the beam of light neared him, he seemed to come to his senses. He quickly cast another spell, but due to the sound of confusion coming from everyone at Brittany’s sudden actions, no one could hear what spell he had cast. A second later he was gone from sight, and the blast was ricocheted toward and adjacent wall. Brittany gasped in pain as Zemnas held her right arm away from her, his own right hand clasped firmly around her throat.
“If you don’t start playing nice, I’ll have them throw you into the pit. The lowest level of this realm, where only the foulest of creatures dwell. I’ll put you in the spot that I had reserved for your lover, and ensure that there will never be a chance that you could come back to life ever again,” Zemnas threatened.
Even as Brittany gasped for air, the fiery look in her eyes didn’t diminish. “Do you honestly think I care? Do you think that I’d want to bring back to life, knowing that I would never be able to see my child again? You can keep me here for all eternity for all I care! What’s the point of living if I can’t even be with my own child?”
“So be it,” Zemnas said coldly without an ounce of emotion anywhere on his face. “If you want to suffer that bad, then I’ll make sure to arrange a special place for you. I’ll ensure that you’ll never see the light of day again.”
Zemnas’s grip on Brittany throat began to tighten. She winced in pain and tried to cry out, but the air in her lungs gave way and she couldn’t breath. Just as suddenly as the pain coursed through her body, it subsided. Brittany looked to see Alex’s hand clamped tightly onto Zemnas’s wrist. Zemnas had released his hold on her, it wasn’t until she heard the cracking of bones that she realized why.
“No!” Alex roared. “Brittany is all I have left! She’s all I have left to live for. You can’t take her away from me!”
Demonic energy crackled all along Alex’s arms. Everyone’s eyes widened in shock as Alex’s hands turned to talons, his teeth turned into fangs, and his eyes turned solid white.
“No, it can’t be. How can this be happening?” Zemnas’s face was a mixture of pain, confusion, and fear. “He shouldn’t be able to use his powers here!”
“I’m a monster. Remember? I’m the reason my child is gone, and my mate is suffering. I’m the reason all of this has happened.” Alex’s voice was full of anger, but it was obvious to all who saw that this anger was nothing more than a facade for the pain that was swelling up inside of him. “Brittany is all I have left now. I’m not going to let you take her away from me.”
“She has brought this fate upon herself,” Zemnas stated. He had once again adapted to the situation, and was no longer fazed by Alex’s sudden surge of power, even though he did not fully understand how this was possible. He looked around the room. All eyes were on him and Alex. Lucia, who seemed more interested than anyone else, was leaning against the wall for support. He was very pale looking, and looked sick.
“Alex, stop this! You can’t do this!” Brittany pleaded as she tugged on Alex’s arm. “I hate him too, but this isn’t the right! I let my emotions get the better of me, don’t let them get the better of you as well. Please, Alex.”
“I’m not going to let him take you away from me, Brittany. I’ve lost my child, I’m not going to lose you as well,” Alex declared. He then glared into Zemnas’s eyes and continued. “If you don’t bring her back to life, then I won’t do a damn thing to stop that Devil from coming into this realm. He can cause as much chaos and havoc as he wants, because you’ll all be dead before he gets here. I will kill each one of you without a second thought.”
“To bring someone back to life, would require us using the forbidden tome. In it, lies spells that could alter the fabric of time itself. You must realize the consequences of doing something such as that. I could alter reality, I could alter the future, and possibly create a fate far worse than any this Devil could do. With the spells contained in the book the beginning and ending of existence as we know it are within one’s grasp. Do you understand the magnitude of that? There’s no way I could risk it, just to bring one human back to life.”
Alex released his grip on Zemnas’s hand and turned to the side. Just as Zemnas started to relax, Alex twirled back around and grabbed hold of Zemnas’s throat. “If you want to live, then you will,” Alex said in a voice as cold as ice.
Alex, stop this!
Alex recognized the voice as one belonging to Lucia. He didn’t even so much as blink as Lucia’s voice rang in his head. He didn’t know what was worse. The fact that he was hearing voices again, or the fact that he was so used to hearing them that he didn’t even flinch.
