Alex slammed Zanatos’s head into the rock formation beside them. He then ran along side the wall, allowing Zanatos’s face to be drug across it until the formation ended. Alex skidded to a halt and twisted his body so that he could grab hold of Zanatos with his left hand as well. Before Zanatos was able to recover, Alex threw him into the air. Alex crouched and watched as Zanatos flew aimlessly through the air above him. He waited, mentally shaping, hardening, and sharpening the Devil Armor around his right arm. By the time Zanatos reached the peak of his forced flight, Alex’s right arm was jagged with bladed edges and his claws were double in size. The moment Zanatos began to descend, Alex launched himself at him.
In a blur of motion Alex flew past Zanatos, landing a few feet away from him in a crouched position. Zanatos crumpled to the ground behind Alex. Blood pooled around him from a large wound that stretched across the entire length of his chest. Alex knew that Zanatos was still alive, but if he acted quickly he should be able to manage him without too much difficulty.
Alex started to smirk, but before he could pain shot through his body and he began to cough up blood. Alex fell to his knees as pain coursed through his chest. He couldn’t focus on the Devil Armor due to the pain, so he quickly retracted the Devil Armor from his body. Alex then brought his hands to where his chest hurt the most, only to find blood pouring out of a wound. Alex’s eyes widened as a shadow appeared behind him.
Zanatos licked the blood from his claws as he stared down at the weakened form of Alex. His wounds had already almost completely healed, where as Alex’s were just now starting to. “The power of the crystals, even the power of the Devil Armor. No matter what you do, you’ll never be able to defeat me.”
Zanatos stared down at the wound on his chest, which was the only one that wasn’t completely healed by this point. “Although I will say this. You did manage to get me pretty good. I’ll have to be sure and repay the debt. Maybe Brittany will be willing to repay your debt once I use the dagger to enter into the Celestial Realm.”
Alex twirled around and slashed at Zanatos. His claws raked through air instead of flesh, and Alex realized he had done exactly what Zanatos had wanted him to. Alex felt Zanatos stab his hand through Alex’s chest. The searing hot pain that coursed through his body. He tried to gasp for breath, but he knew it wouldn’t come.
“Don’t look so down. I’m not going to kill you yet. I’m going to make sure you suffer before I end your miserable existence.”
“Twice I’ve been betrayed by those that I trust. Twice I’ve been stabbed in the back by someone I thought was dead. Twice I’ve ripped the fuckers arm off!” Alex yelled. His Devil Armor shout out of his chest in the form of tentacles that stabbed themselves into Zanatos’s hand.
Zanatos’s eyes widened in horror as he felt the Devil Armor move inside his arm. His horror lasted only a second, replaced by a mask of pain and hatred as Alex’s Devil Armor hardened and ripped through the skin of his arm. The Devil Armor was more like blades, as it twisted around inside of Zanatos’s arm Alex could hear the sound of Zanatos’s bones being sliced and crushed by his Devil Armor. Zanatos screamed in pain only once, and that was when he pulled back a bloody nub of where his arm used to be. Alex pulled Zanatos’s arm through his chest, letting the severed limb fall uselessly to the ground. He quickly turned on Zanaots, trying to lash out at him while he still could.
Zanatos flipped backwards, right as Alex struck out at him. Alex’s claws missed him by barely an inch as he quickly made some room between himself and Alex. Zanatos’s left arm was protectively holding onto his shoulder, which was covered in blood due to the loss of his appendage. The pain of his wound nearly caused him to lose his focus as he glared at Alex.
“You have no idea just what you are messing with! I’m perfect! There’s no way in Hell that you could ever defeat me! You are the creation by merging a human’s soul with a vast amount of demon’s souls. I was created by merging a demon’s soul with even more demon’s souls. That alone should tell you the difference in our powers. Not to mention the fact that inside of me reside three souls. Whereas you only harbor two. I have more power than you, I have better control over my powers than you do, and I am not afraid of powers like you are. In other words, there’s no fucking way that you’ll be able to beat me!” Just as Zanatos said this, his right arm burst out of his shoulder completely regenerated. Zanatos flexed his newly formed limb and stared at it for a second. He seemed to calm down as he did this. “You do realize that no matter what you do, you’ll never be able to defeat me. I’ve always been able to heal myself faster than anyone else, even able to regenerate my limbs. That’s a feat that not even you could master. No matter how many times you lash out and try to hurt me, I’ll only just heal myself and continue with my own onslaught. Whereas for you, it takes forever for your wounds to heal. I guess that comes with being undead filth.”
“What are you talking about? Last time I checked you were the exact same thing as me. So I don’t know how you can say we are that different. Except for the fact that after this battle’s over with, I’ll be the one walking away,” Alex replied coldly.
“Don’t make me laugh! Saying that were are the same is an utter insult to my superiority. Compared to you and the other filth of this world, I am a god! There’s no comparison in our abilities, unless of course you want to show how completely powerless you are against me. Three souls course through me. Three souls give me power. My hatred of you is what fuels my power, and allows me to keep control of this body. When I kill you, I will be like a god in this realm. And as this realms god, I will rule over all the filth in this realm and break them to my will!”
“You know, it’s funny. Before I started my quest I had told myself that no matter what I would prevail in bringing my love and my child back to life. I knew that the things I would do would be forbidden, and I knew that the powers that be would try to stop me. Turns out I was wrong about the later of the two. Evidently the powers that be wanted me to do what I was doing, that way I’d be strong enough to face you. But that’s beside the point. The point is, is that before I started on this quest, I told myself that no matter who got in my way, friend or foe, I wouldn’t let them stop me. And if God or the Devil were to stand in my way, I would end their life by my own claws.” Alex smirked and crouched into a fighting position. I’ve kept him talking long enough that my wounds are almost healed. The only bad one is the one in my chest, but I doubt I’ll be able to stall too much longer. Guess I might as well make the first move.
“Lucky for me, I can strike a god and a Devil down just by killing you. So, shall we end this fight? Or do you want to continue talking about how superior you are over us mere mortals?”
Zanatos scoffed at Alex’s tone and readied himself to charge at Alex. “Fine. If you want to hurry your own death, then so be it. I will end your wretched life here and now. It’s a shame, I really had hoped that you’d prove more of a challenge for me. But so far everything you’ve managed to do has been sheer luck on your part. The only real damage you’ve inflicted on me has already been healed. Whereas my wounds upon you are just now starting to heal. You cannot escape your fate. You were destined to die the moment you chose to fight me. The strong will always rule over the weak. Thus, if the weak want to survive they must bow down to the strong. If they don’t, then they will perish. That was your philosophy, was it not? That is how it has always been. Now I am the strongest. Therefore you will either bow down to me or perish!”
“I’ve changed since I’ve lived by those rules, Zanatos. I know now that the only true weak ones are those that prey on the defenseless. That is the reason that I know I can defeat you. You are a demon, through and through. Nothing but demonic blood and demonic energy courses through your veins. I, however, have the blood of two great mages coursing through me and the soul of one of them that gives me strength. My mother and father were two of the greatest mages this realm has ever had. Both of them were far greater than the one whom you serve. You have unmatched skill in controlling your demonic energy, but I have something that you could never hope to obtain!” Alex grabbed hold of his right wrist with his left hand and pointed his right hand out toward Zanatos. “I can cast magic. This spell is courtesy of my mother and father!”
This is going to hurt like Hell, Alex thought as he prepared to cast the spell. Lucia, here’s hoping this spell does what you promised it would do.
“What is it?” Alex asked as he looked down at the parchment that Lucia, who was possessing Raza, handed to him. On the parchment, was a spell that Alex had never seen before.
“That, is a new spell created by Alcadan. A very nasty one at that. You see, while he’s been in the Celestial Realm, he’s been studying Celestial Realm magic. He used his knowledge of the three realm spells, to create a spell unlike any other. It’s potential power in the right hands would be astronomical!” Lucia told him with an excited look in his eyes.
Alex wasn’t quite so sure he liked what Lucia was saying about this spell. “Just how strong is this spell?”
Lucia stopped to consider Alex’s question before speaking. “Strong enough. Alcadan was unable to make a spell that was a perfect fusion of all three realms. What he did create, however, is a nearly flawless blend of Demon Realm and Celestial Realm magic. The spell he created is not the stronger or the deadliest spell in existence. For spells of even greater magnitude are kept stored within the volumes of the Forbidden Tome. It is the way you use this spell that makes its potential nearly limitless!”
“Lucia, taking into consideration what a Celestial Realm spell does to my body when I use it, just what’s going to happen to me if I do in fact use this spell?”
“Don’t worry. Alcadan already has that figured out. Originally, a spell like this would probably end up killing you if you tried to use it. What Alcadan did, was he dampened the overall power of the spell and combined it with a healing spell. While it won’t be healing your wounds when you use it, it should nullify some of the damage your body will receive from using the spell. Depending on how strong your opponent turns out to be, you might do more damage to yourself by using this spell than by actually fighting him.”’
“Gee, that’s reassuring,” Alex replied dryly. “So what exactly does this spell do?”
“Let’s just say it makes whatever you were fighting, think twice about fighting you. A word caution though. Don’t overuse the spell. If you do, you might end up permanently damaging yourself or worse, end your own life.”
“In your professional opinion, how many times could I use the spell before I’d overuse it? Though hopefully I won’t have any use for it.”
“Personally, using it at all would be considered putting your life at risk. But I doubt that Alcadan would have told me to give this spell to you if he thought it would kill you.”
“Yeah,” Alex replied softly.
“Hey, I know that look. We talked about this. Don’t throw your life away. I’ve got a plan that might can bring Brittany and your child back. If that falls through, then we’ll worry about other options when the time comes. For now, focus on the battle ahead. And focus on living at all costs.”
In a blur of motion Alex flew past Zanatos, landing a few feet away from him in a crouched position. Zanatos crumpled to the ground behind Alex. Blood pooled around him from a large wound that stretched across the entire length of his chest.
