Chapter 2
White Rose slowly came back into consciousness. As her senses returned, she could hear the sound of a fire, and someone moving around. She opened her eyes and took in the scene.
The Hylian known as Link was cleaning his sword. He turned to look at her. Looking into his eyes, she could tell that he had suffered a terrible loss, that it was taking all his self control to control his rage.
Rose shuddered to think what could happen if that rage was unleashed. Link seemed to have decided that she was no longer a threat, so he went back to cleaning his sword. White Rose stared at him for some time before summoning up the courage to talk.
"Um…" began Rose.
"Don't speak" spat Link "You said thank you. I don't particularly care how you came to be under Ganon's power, and the only reason I saved you was because I hate Ganon, so I destroy everything he has created. That includes the spell that held you."
Rose was stunned. She had heard of this mans kindness and courage. This was not what she had expected. SNAP.
Rose spun on the spot, moving to draw her sword. Her hand reached down and found it missing. Panicking slightly, she cast her eyes around the camp. She spotted it lying next to the fire, ten foot away.
"Who goes there?" asked Link, calling into the gloom. One by one, thirty hideous creatures appeared from the tree's shadows.
Rose grabbed her sword and moved to Link's side. She recognised these creatures, and knew the threat they presented in large numbers.
They were Orcs. Vicious, malignant creatures that spat on everything the peaceful races of Hyrule believed in. "We are here for the Hylian" one of the hissed. The Orc that spoke, (Their chieftain from the look of him thought Rose) then looked at Rose and said
"You have no part in this Ranger. Leave now, if you wish to remain breathing." Rose ignored this remark and drew Elbereth from its sheath, and stepped up to Links side.
The Chieftain gave a blood curdling scream and charged, drawing its axe as it ran. The rest of the Orcs followed, each adding its own scream to the air. Link and Rose took up combat postures and prepared for the onslaught.
The fight was quick and brutal. Rose glided through the horde, killing with ease. Link used all his strength to penetrate the Orcs hides as he cut, slashed and stabbed his way into the centre of the fight. Orcs charged and fell, trying to kill them both.
They gave no thought to their own safety as they hurled themselves towards the whirling blades in the centre of their horde that were Link and Rose. As an Orc charged at Link, Rose moved in to block him off.
Rose could tell that he was an excellent fighter, but even the best can be overwhelmed by numbers. The fight finished as quickly and as suddenly as it had begun, Link and Rose standing triumphant in the centre of the orc bodies.
"You fight well together!" came a voice from behind them. "BUT NOT WELL ENOUGH!!" Link turned, and saw the axe flying at him. He brought his shield up to defend himself, but he knew that axe was going to cleave his shield and himself in two.
A flash of white appeared in front of Link's eyes, seemingly absorbing the axe into itself. Rose fell to the floor, the axe embedded deeply in her stomach. Link fell to his knees next to Rose and lifted her head in his arms.
"Thank you…" muttered Rose before blacking out. Link knew that his magic wasn't strong enough to heal this kind of wound, and he had only brought enough medicine for minor injuries.
Link stood up and charged at the Orc Chieftain, letting a war-cry escape his lips that made the Orc quake in fear. Link hacked him down until there was nothing left but a pile of unrecognisable red gore.
Link burst through the bushes and down the ridge, carrying Rose in his arms. Link had managed to seal Roses wound so that it stopped bleeding, but he couldn't close it or heal it.
Only the Zoras could heal a wound of this depth. He stopped to check his position under the setting sun, and then pressed onwards towards Zora's Domain. Rose was still breathing, but her breath was ragged.
She had lost to much blood. She wouldn't survive unless Link got her to the Zoras. Link jumped down another ledge and spotted what he was looking for, the entrance to Zora's River. Which was when the sun set.
Instantly they were surrounded by skullkids. Damn it thought Link. I don't have time for this! Link gently placed Rose on the ground and drew his sword, but he knew he couldn't defeat them all on his own.
Maybe I can kill just enough to get past thought Link. Standing ready, Link noticed the horizon was a little blurry. That was expected at sunset, but it was night now. Link allowed himself a small smile.
He knew what those blurs were. The Zoran High guard smashed through the skull kids, scattering them.
"Link, Queen Ruto sensed your coming." Said the Zoran captain.
"We were sent to find you. You must come with us before more appear." Link nodded. The Zoras stood around Link and began chanting. In the moment of warp, Link thought he saw a familiar face. Instantly he dismissed this thought. He knew better than anyone that you only see where you're going.
The next moment they was in Zoras Domain.
"Princess!" yelled Link. "Somebody help her!" "Link, give her to me." said a voice from behind him. Link spun around to see Ruto smiling at him. Link handed Rose over gently to Ruto.
"Please rest Link. I will take care of her." She mumbled something under her breath and vanished.
"LINK!!" cried an ecstatic voice. Link spun on the spot once again and found himself with a face full of bright blue.
"You're here! You're here!" The small fairy backed off to give Link some air.
"Navi? What are you doing here?"
"The Deku tree sent me. He said you'd be needing my help. I wasn't sure at first because this tree is new and some of his predictions have been a bit off but….YAYYY!!!"
Link couldn't help smiling. No matter how angry he was when she agreed to stay in the forest, it just melted away.
"So the first thing I can do is… show you where your room is! This way!"
"Noooo…" cried someone in the distance. All Link knew was that he was running. "HA HA HA HAA!" That voice… could it be? Suddenly, the whole area was illuminated, and Link saw who he had been dreading. Ganondorf. There was also a figure lying in a pool of blood at his feet. "Oh Gods… NO! Zelda!" yelled Link. He made to draw his sword, but it wasn't there. Nor was his shield. Ganondorf drew back his sword and charged…
Link woke in a cold sweat. His dreams had never lied. He got dressed and left a note to Ruto.
"Link? Whats wrong?" asked Navi as he ran from his room to the entrance to Zoras river.
"It's Zelda" replied Link simply. Diving into the water, he thought about what he saw. If he'd been seeing the present… Link dismissed this thought and pushed harder. He cursed at himself for leaving the palace.
If Zelda was dead it would be his fault. He climbed out of the river and ran towards the gates. Oh no… thought Link, as he saw that the gates had been ripped off. Link climbed up the remains and continued running. Buildings burned. People screamed. Link had one thought on his mind.
Getting to Zelda. Even as he thought , an explosion blew a hole in the palace. Link used his Longshot to get up to the ledge. Links eyes widened in horror at what lay in front of him. Soldiers lay massacred across the lawns.
"Bentonio!" cried Link as he saw one of the soldiers move slightly. "What happened?!" demanded Link.
"Ga… Ganon…" sputtered Bentonio.
"Link…sa… Save Zelda."
"I will friend." Whispered Link, as Bentonio passed into death. Link stood up and continued running. He jumped over the dead bodies of palace guards, many of them his friends. Up the stairs, through the corridors to Zelda's room.
Just a little further thought Link. Just a little…
"Oh Gods…" whispered Link at what he saw.
"Oh my!" cried Navi as she came around the corner. Palace Guards smashed against the walls. Death and Destruction and Pain. Some of the Guards screamed in agony, but the figure in the centre of the room silenced them.
"You will give me your Triforce piece, or I will take it from your corpse" said the figure. It was a voice Link knew all to well, but now it resonated with power. Ganondorf.
"Ne…Never!" came a defiant voice. By the throat, Ganondorf held Princess Zelda.
"Fine. You could have been my queen."
Zelda spat in his face. Ganondorf roared in anger at this last act of defiance and drew back his sword. Link charged and knocked Ganondorf down, which sent Zelda sprawling. "What's this?" laughed Ganondorf.
"Another guard?" Ganondorf pulled Link off him and looked at his face.
"NO!" cried Ganondorf, throwing him against the wall. Link felt the wall crack behind him. He fell to the floor, stunned.
"We will fight, you and I. But not this day!" shouted Ganondorf flinging his hand out, casting a strange red substance onto the wall. It began swirling sickeningly.
Wind began to blow fiercely through the wreckage of Zelda's room. Ganondorf jumped through, laughing maniacally. As soon as he was gone, it began to shrink.
"Link!" cried Zelda as she stood up, clutching her side.
"You must follow him!" She pushed out her hand towards the portal. A bright white light shone from her hand, holding the portal open. Link didn't need telling twice. He dived through, Navi close behind. The portal closed just as Navi flew through.
"Good luck, Link" whispered Zelda.
